I used the one click root on my wifi only and I received the wifi error. I re-ran the one click root ant it worked, just make sure when your running the on click root you don't click anywhere but the "OK" button and don't type anything it can goof it up.

all that the one click root does is type in the adb commands for you. It is literally the same process as adb. However, if you're running the one-click, you have to be PATIENT. Any clicks, any movements, even a gust of wind against your mouse, could cause the commands to miss the text box and that step wont work. I ran the one-click about 5 times before it got all the commands in; if I could do it again, I'd just use adb myself so I can troubleshoot as I go

hit home, enter, enter, type telnetd, enter, open the telnet app and make sure it says 23, then hit connect. that should fix it.

Issue when rooting

So I was up literally 6 hours trying to root my Inspire 4g. I was able to get the temporary software on the phone however when I try and do the hackerize-ace rage it says the file cannot be found and obviously the commad /data/local/tmp/rage doesnt work on the mobile terminal as well. I have tried both the "one" click root option and doing it manually serveral times and cannot seem to get passed that. I have also tried it on 2 different computers and same thing. I do not have any anti virus software installed on my computer.
Seperate isssue now is every time I try and start the process all over again I either get 2 different errors. 1st one is it cannot write the file because it doesnt have permission to and the second is the incorrect model id error when checking the file. I am using the same gold card I originally made.
Like I said I was up for hours trying to root this device and I am running into several issues. Maybe I was just tired and missing a step but any help would be much appreciated.
Side note im at work so I will not be able to do anything until later today but I remember details of the process so feel free to shoot ideas at me.
Thanks

Easy root for Thunderbolt on Mac OSX
I wrote this and seems to work fine the few times I have used it.
If you guys run into any problems or errors please let me know so I can see whats wrong.
Follow the Video set by step.
Sorry if I talked quietly I'm sick.
Enjoy!
Fixed. If you are getting a adb command not found error. Redownload the big file or download the runmefix.zip (Check your tube video) uncompress the file and put runme in the thunderbolt directory of your desktop.
If you download the big file after April 9th 2011 at 7:30am then you do not need this fix
Saw the video. Got the files. Will be doing this as soon as my phone is charged in the AM. Hopefully it works.

Yes. Worked awesome. Takes a while, but it worked. Just make sure to follow directions to the T, I accidentally hit enter on a command too soon and had to start over. But all works as far as I can see. Super easy, but takes a while.
Thanks again to OP!
This looks great--no messing around in ADB?
Its uses adb but you don't have to worry about it or anything like that.. The download includes what it needs.

Yeah it worked great for me, the first time around the phone booted earlier than it should have and I had to do the whole thing over, and the second time I tried to remover the Verizon Backup via titanium backup (**DO NOT TRY THIS**) and almost bricked my phone, and so the third time everything worked perfect and now Im running Perfect Storm by Chingy and its awesome thanks!
My phone isn't recognized. Usb debugging is checked but the terminal window just says checking for phone over and over. Any ideas ?

I had that happen for me as well. It seems that by default the Mac doesn't recognize it. Click ignore on the pop-up and click okay for charge only. Unless this is what you did. In that case try again

how do you start over? do you just turn off the phone and restart the app on your computer?

Root Methods

I thought I might as well start this thread. The only root method I currently know of is http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/04/30/instructions-how-to-root-the-verizon-samsung-droid-charge/
I have read that z4root works as well, can anyone confirm this? I will be receiving my DROID Charge tomorrow and will try z4root.

Root however you want to, keep us updated on how it works out.
The method in the first post works well. In step 5 after adb shell you will need to input chmod 755 /data/local/GingerBreak or you will get a permission denied error when trying to run gingerbreak.
Just got my Charge from work finally, will root today and keep you guys posted. I will try z4root first to see if it can be done easily.

What does that mean "just got from work"? Were you able to purchase one? I backed down on getting one from Best Buy at the last minute on the Sunday after the missed launch (they were willing to sell it to me), but when I tried to get one the other day, no sale!
Sorry for the delay, z4root does not work nor does superoneclick method. You need to use adb and add in step 5 that was previously posted. Worked for me. Also to clarify i work for verizon and I was able to get one early, I will not be paying for it until I get back from vacation so we do not get flagged in our commission system.
The adb method using Gingerbreak is broken by the OTA update that just came out as some of us more overeager updaters have learned. Here's hoping for a revised method soon!
I figured that ota did more then something usless. I will not be taking it, my phone has been running great rooted for almost 2 weeks.
Anyone know what I have to do to get rid of the ota notification? I'm rooted but the constant asking me to update now or later is annoying.
Well i did the OTA update because I did what I needed with the root. I will try to get a way to re root and get back to you guys.
when will the ota updated charge get a root?
I was screwed from the start. the guy at verizon updated my phone afer he activated in the back.
I ended up taking the ota after I had frozen all the bloat. I'm guessing the OTA fixed some serious battery issues because this morning at work I went from 100% to 60% in one hour with light usage. I don't know if this was a software issue or because my office is fringe 4g... my phone constantly goes back and forth from 3 to 4.
The rest of the day though after I let the ota install, battery life was much much better.
Found this over Droidpolice forum
At step 5 after adb shell you will need to input chmod 755 /data/local/GingerBreak before doing /data/local/GingerBreak this enables the permissions
Has anyone tries this?

Tried and failed with ED02. This was mentioned a few replies up.
Any chance we can get the OP edited?
If you are rooted then go to the build.prop and change all instances of E1 to E2 that should get rid of the notifications as you are tricking the updater into thinking its updated. If you already on E2 you are SOL until a new root method is posted. I got my charge yesterday and Verizon dude updated the phone before I had a chance to tell him not to. I figure I will wait. All I want is root for titanium backup. Ive been happy with this phone.

Help!! No recovery or root!!

I installed Osmos Os 7.1.1 thru TWRP and when I did that I then went and flashed Aroma installer( probably not the best idea) and installed pretty much all the apps, which was stupid. Now I don't have root( and can't reroot via kingroot, it fails every time).
When I tried to get back into recovery I get the sleeping Android with the exclamation mark with the "No Command".
I just want to get back into recovery so I can restore my last backup.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can you get into download mode? If you can do that, ill upload the files you need to get your phone to a rooted functional state.
Yes I can , but, when I go into download mode on the while on the computer, it doesn't read download mode and that the drivers weren't installed correctly it detects that something was connected but goes straight to the drivers weren't installed correctly.... I feel like there's no hope with this phone, I'm stuck on a 7.1.1 rom with no root, no sim card detection and no recovery. Ugh!If you think you can get me into a rooted state, then awesome!

Your not stuck, its a soft brick, i once had that same driver problem. Give me some time to compile everything into a single zip for you to download with instructions. To fix your driver issue, ill include the lg g3 driver kit for you to install, it may still give a driver error, but youll just have to manually assign them and ill help you with that if it comes up.
Ok man, thanks, now what I didn't mention was that I can still boot up into Osmos Os, I just don't have recovery root or radio...It's like when I flashed Aroma and installed all those apps, it broke my recovery and root...I don't understand it. So is that still classified as a soft brick? Just can't do anything with trying to restore my last backup, which I still have in my TWRP folder, but with no recovery I can't restore it, along with the root issue...I mean I tried to reroot with Kingoroot and king root, but nothing. I'm hoping what you are providing me with will get me back up and running. Thank you again man. I do have ADB and fastboot working, just can't make things work in dl mode.

Yea, as long you can get into download mode, then its only a soft brick. The Stump Root apps is a collection of exploits and when in doubt it can sometimes use a brute force attack to gain root. Its how i rerooted my g3 after it got corrupt.
Ok cool, so is it different than the mobile version? Because I tried the mobile version and it instantly popped up with it saying that it can't root my phone.

Ok. Thank you, now on the computer, I can't login to XDA because my wife is signed into Google plus and it's her computer. I'll take the zip and transfer it to her desktop.
Alright man, I'm copying the zip over to the computer. Are you going to be on for a while in case I need you?
When I went into download mode the computer still didn't recognize it. It told me the drivers weren't installed successfully. When I unplugged the phone from the computer they automatically installed correctly.
Now when I went in to look at the device connected, there was a yellow exclamation mark, and it said that the drivers weren't installed correctly and it gave me a "Code(10)device cannot start". I'm so lost right now, please help me out man..Lol can it be done thru ADB? I know that I don't have download mode working so fastboot is out of the question. Ugh!

Now if reinstalling all the drivers doesnt work, Ill set up a guide to do a full cleaning of lg drivers and fresh install. The error codes your getting are apparently just outdated or corrupt drivers, so its not a lost cause, just a bump in the road that can be fixed.
Got it fixed!!! Back to stock rooted. Now I'm flashing super su. Now I can do that thru flashify right? You left out one major detail tho...I had to check Mark board, in LG flash tool...I was stuck in the factory reset 2 screen for like 2 hours until I finally had the computer recognize download mode again. But hey, that did do the trick!! Thank you very much man!!

And i would suggest using flashfire. Flashify has been a headache on the g3 for me but no mattef what, make a backup first.
Hey, no problem man, you really helped out! And now because of that tutorial and the detail you put in, I have recovery and root again! It actually was really easy initially!
I had someone else help out before you, and we spent hours upon hours of trial and error to try and get me back to this state, now he suggested lg root tool but I told him I couldn't get DL mode working as well. So all in all, if it wasn't for people on this site helping each other out, none of us would have what we have now , or fix things on their devices.
Thanks again!:good:
