Backup - Samsung Mesmerize

So I'm running PnP and wanna run cyanogenmod 6 that got ported. If i make a backup and decide i don't like cyanogen (which i doubt) then i can just do a restore and everything will be there? In the thread about cyanogen it says wipe data.. so i just wanna make sure that i can get everthing back if i dont like it. And is there a way to just wipe data other than wipe data/ factory reset?

Yes, everything will still be there when you restore a backup. Just make sure to reflash whatever kernel you had been using on PnP if you restore your backup.
No, wipe data and factory reset from recovery are one in the same and can't be done separately.

So reflash the kernel before I do the restore?

clockwork + ics?

Hi, i read that when you flash an ics rom, there are problems going back to a gingerbread one...Is it possible to try ics, and then restore a backup? which version of clockwork is needed? is another recovery needed? thanks in advance!
I installed ICS and then restored my Gingerbread backup with no problems using CWM.
So I can just flash for example the newest NexusBeam (4.1.0) with CWM and Im still able restore my old CM7 Backup?
All this threads about bricks with bootloader etc. made me unsure :S

Yes. Im always doing this step before recovering backups
1 wipe data factory reset
2 wipe cache partition
3 wipe dalvik cache
4 restore backup
5 fix permissions
100% recovered.
Nexus S + CM9 kangs = Awesomeness

What not to do when restoring a nandroid

Here are some tips on what not to do when restoring a nandroid
A. Forgetting to wipe system before restoring a nandroid
B. Forgetting to wipe data, cache, and dalvik at the same time

General section, dude

Yeah wrong section.
My advice: know which kernel you are on before doing a nandroid backup. Make sure you are on a compatible kernel first, flash the same rom as the nandroid backup just in case.
You know better
Forgetting to run Qkster wipe script.
Sometime renaming the nandroid zip creates trouble.
Actually I was referring to when you wipe everything on ics cwm recovery and trying to restore a nandroid

I've restored nandroids many times and have NEVER wiped anything before doing so without any issues. I'm not sure why you'd worry about wiping everything when it is all overwritten by the restore process.
it happens between the Slim ICS Restore and CM9 flash

NANDROID restore

quck and easy one, when doing a nandroid restore do i need to wipe all partitions or just go ahead and do it?
Yes I Always wipe before restore . Also wipe cash and dalvik, I also factory reset and stay in recovery upon completion to restore . Then reboot. This gives a clean installation. You're making sure the old Rom is gone before restoring. Hope this helps. If I'm in doubt I always wipe. Just to be safe. Remember even though is a backup, your still coming from a different Rom. So you will want a clean installation before restoring. I do my restorations this way and had never had a problem.

No. It does that on it's own.
What you are supposed to do though, is search before posting a new thread.

Hi,
No need to wipe before restore.
The whole point of a nandroid is to wipe what's currently there and restore the backup you made. Wiping before restoring is wasted time/power/flash writing.

Very quick rom question

Hey,
I've flashed hydro 4 in the past but my wifi didnt work, so I used CWM to restore ICS.
I now wish to flash cm10;
do I just boot into cwm, do wipe data, dalvik, factory reset etc
then flash cm10zip?
Is that all; I just dont wanna brick
One other thing, could I make a backup of the actual ROM once installed so I can go back and forth two restores without having to use titanium backup to reinstall everything?
Thanks a lot, reply greatly appreciated (and thanked )

BUMP
1) Always use titanium to backup your app data before flashing new rom.
2) Download and save to internal sd CM10 and gapps.zip.
3) boot into recovery. (I use cwm as I'm used to it)
4) under backup and restore, backup your current ROM. Just in case you know.
5) wipe, wipe, wipe.
6) install CM10.zip
7) install gapps.zip
8) reboot and enjoy.

[Q] Restoring via TWRP

What is the process? Factory wipe then restore? Or wipe then format data? Can I format everything then restore? I am coming from BoneStock ROM and restoring to JellyBean v19.
You don't have to do anything. I always do a factory reset then restore my nandroid. The restore will wipe System as its first step anyway so doing anything more is optional not required.
