my mum just got the SGS4G and i was trying to setup ADB to root it with SuperOneClick. but a couple of drivers just refuse to install and I've had this exact same issue on a friends vibrant. even though i knew it wouldn't work, i still tried using SOC to root, but it just sits at "waiting for device...". I've never had problems using SOC on any other phone other than SGS. if someone could please help me get this settled, that would be much appreciated. (and do try and go a little light with the "noob" comments)
Yeah I've had the same problem. There's a link in these forums for all the drivers fir SGS4G. Its the thread with how to root the 4G.

alright so i had one of my friends who has the vibrant on tmobile help me root and install darkys rom on my phone. since i had no idea i just let him do it since he has it on his phone. we rooted it use the onesuperclick. we took off the bloatwear and then put the rom on the sd card loaded it up in recovery and did the recovery then installed it. my phone hard bricked. nothing comes up or no download mood nothing even when pluged. but no worries i just send it to tmobile. but i wanna know if anyone can give me a guide to do this step by step so it dosent happen again when i get my phone back. thanks
The vibrant roms do not work on the 4g....until they are ported to 4g with the proper mods made to the rom they will cause a brick everytime

1. no matter how much it looks like it, the s4g isn't a vibrant. there are as of yet no custom roms available.
2. people like you and your friend are the reason carriers and manufacturers are going towards more restrictive ability to root and signed/encrypted bootloaders
theirs no roms for the 4g?

Really though, when carriers stop insuring phones, this will be the reason why....
i had the same hard brick problem as above but for me it was weird. all i wanted at the time was to get rid of the bloat where and i did after which i unrooted and the phone worked fine. the weird thing is later i went in to download mode by accident and before i could do anything the phone was bricked. tmobile replaced My phone but if this has happened to anyone else please reply

I would do it but I don't have any knowledge of adb or have fulltime access to a computer which I think this would require as to give prompt feedback. Please I hope some1 will step up with more knowledge.

I got booted last night from the irc server for using a nick that belonged to someone else and i didn't know it. Otherwise, I would have been testing it by now.
I hope someone else got it last night.

Im gonna ask that this not take place. Its one thing to have 1 or 2 testers, this way if something goes wrong, its an easy fix. It's another thing if there are 15k testers and you have each one telling you something different.
these 1-2 testers are what we call a select testing group. It makes it a lot easier to QA.
Though we appreciate this post, it's not needed. We have our testers.

Since I can't post in the dev forums, I have to try it here. I'm following instructions on how to install CWM beta on my SGS4G but I'm stuck at the very beginning. I can't replace the recovery bin in the system/bin folder. Tried it with both Droid Explorer and Android Commander, they both say it's done but it's still the same old file in the directory. Tried replacing, renaming, deleting, ... all with no avail. Phone is rooted with SuperOneClick. What am I missing?
do i need to know how to use adb or is odin just fine?... if there's a quick guide for adb i can get my hands... i'm in!

I would like to root it but cannot afford to brick my phone, so if you could please explain the steps and any programs I will need and where to download them from I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for helping in advance.
