Hello,
My Nexus S I9020a is my first android, so I am new to rooting and flashing.
with the help of this awesome forum I got through with it all and I happily running cm7, so Thank you all.
However, I had a minor set-back... I didn't know about making a nandroid backup before all so I can retain it to its oem state.
If there is someone out there who can provide a link to his i9020a stock back up or there is a stock 2.3.3 out there that is for i9020a.. I would be really grateful.
my original stock info:
Build Number: GRI54
Baseband version: I9020UCKB2 -- now its NO DGSXXKB1 or I9020XXKB1 in bootloader menu
Bootloader: I9020XXKA3 -- I don't think I flashed bootloader at any step since this remains the same
CARRIER INFO: ATT
I did try installing the one in REF post in development, but build number is GRI40 and rebooting in recovery gives triangle exclamation droid.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
I am in the same boat. I lost my 3G too. Did you find the stock rom yet?

That one is easy to fix, just go back into bootloader and fastboot flash recovery...

Thank you for your reply, but this is not what I am looking for as I want stock recovery not clockworkmod. I have that one in the link you provided and without it I would not have been able to install a custom ROM.

I can provide you with a nandroid backup of the stock I9020A system.img and boot.img (untouched), but unfortunately I forgot to dump the stock recovery and radio from a shell.

Thank you for replying. I won't be that much worried about radio as xxb1/3 somehow has better reception, I even get H most of the time now instead of 3G as when I first had the phone.
Did you obtain those files through CWM? just asking to know in future how do I go about keeping my stock images.
I appreciate your contribution to solve the issue I am facing.
Thanks

Yes I used CWM recovery. I just flashed that immediately after unlocking bootloader. I didn't root the device beforehand, so when I made a Nandroid backup it was stock.
I can upload it later, going to bed now.
PS. For dumping recovery.img, one way is to use the "dd" command in a shell (along with other parameters specifying the mount location of the image), but you need to be rooted. There are guides online, you can find them in Google search. Haven't experimented with the Nexus S yet but I had done it successfully in the past with others.
Thanks and have a have a great night

Thank you for your quick response and the files!
After downloading the zip file file i md5sum and it matched what is on the site, however when i try to restore using clockmod it says MD5 MISMATCH. I checked the files once they are on sdcard having the same md5 and it is so. I don't know what else I can do

If required, I can make this into a flashable zip so that it can be installed as a ROM.
I solved the issue and now I have my stock GRI54 back!
Thank you!!
the issue was your recovery folder didn't have nandroid.md5 file so I created one and calculated for each file and saved.
Thanks again!

That's strange, when I backed it up there was no nandroid.md5. Can you zip up the md5 and post it here? I could upload the corrected zip.
Edit: I guess I could use this method to calculate md5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114
just take the file out of the attached zip and put it in your recovery folder then zip and upload

No. It flashes back to stock DI07 and does not touch recovery. I believe this is to give you a clean slate before flashing ROMs or a quick fix for when somthing goes wrong flashing zips.
you still need to flash DG27 to DI07 so you can get the latest modem.bin..what does this mean??? do i have to do something after i flash this rom that is attached?

It means you have to already have the DI07 update installed first because it only flashes the system, not the modem/phone or data.
updated!!!
http://firon.net/xda/SPH-D700-modem.DI07.update-signed.zip
Here's a modem updater. You need clockwork to flash this. Rename to update.zip and copy it to the root of your sd card.
This will update your modem/baseband from DG27 to DI07.
It will not check your phone's version, but it will at least make sure using it you're on the right phone model.
It will NOT overwrite root, your kernel, or anything else. It only touches the modem.
any chance of the original epic Rom? the one that came with the phone prior to DI07? i used Oden to rever to stock and then applied the update (DI07) but Android Market is not working (i'm guessing corupt (g)Talk file).
Data Wipe + Clear Cache did not seem to help when in clockrecovery, the android market wont let me download anything
noob, would you mind posting a copy of the DG27 modem.bin file? Some of us are having issues with Bluetooth audio and I wanted to see if reverting the baseband would solve it.
Awesome, noobnl you rock. Now i'm gonna really start messin with this phone

Hello all I'am new hear & i'm sure this is a noob Q but if my phone is rooted & has DG27 on it can i use Clockworkmod to flash this stock.epic.DI18.rom.update.zip to update it?
The Older Build .zip file is busted i downloaded it two times & both times winrar says
Code:
! D:\net down\stock.epic.DI07.rom.update.build2.zip: Unexpected end of archive
Clockwork also said the file was no good
My question is can i update my phone from DG27 to DI18 with the first file in the OP? & then use "update-modemtoDI18.signed.zip(from post #14)" I was reading things about having to up date to DI07 before going to DI18 also if any one would be kind enough to point me to the right files & stuff to get my phone updated. I have been on this forum & a few others for about 4 hours now and i can't seem to find an answer

Yes.
you won't lose clockwork recovery but you might lose root.
if you lose root access, you simply need to re-root or flash a new kernel.
He just needs to flash a rooted kernel and that's it. Just in case.

I have rooted, unlocked, and flashed CM10, and then flashed the stock ROM. I had trouble downloading the ROM from samsung-updates.com, and found a page with a different link to a file of a different name, but a similiar size. The file name is:
HOME_I535VRALF2_I535VZWALF2_618049_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5
I'm curious, has anyone else used this file? Is that the correct file to use? When flashing back to stock rom with that file, do you also get the locked bootloader, the original recovery, and lose root? It seems like it does, but wanted to confirm. Do I still need to flash the bootloader as provided in this post:

@anshumangoyal, maybe the there is an "undo" zip file, a revert to stock zip file? What mod have you flashed?
Dirty flash your rom, no wipe, and you won't lose anything...
And no automatic backup, you need to do it yourself in recovery, first thing to do when you flash some stuff.

Ok, it seems you don't want to post a link to the mod you flashed, or at least say the name, I asked 2 times and maybe we could do a revert zip file for you if we know what you have flashed (it depends of what kind of mod) then...
Take a look here to return to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701.
Or flash a stock rom via recovery? Maybe easier for you...

Oops I am sorry, I was not aware of terminology here. If I see in System Setting I have Build Number: KOT49H and Kernel Version: 3.4.0-gadb2201
Is this information you are looking for. I had unrooted latest android software, which I rooted using wugFresh tool kit software on windows 8.
Model: Nexus 5, LGD820, D821
Android 4.4.2 KOT49H
I hope this will help out.
Nope, it's not what I asked but...
I gave you a link to some full stock roms (rooted) to flash in recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52732041&postcount=4 (use the first one for example).
Put it on your phone via computer, reboot in recovery go to the zip file you've just put, flash the zip file and reboot, the modified files from the mods you flashed will be replaced by the original stock files.
Use this link to "learn" how to use some commands (manually) and return to stock when you encounter a plroblem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701. Here you need to flash the system.img (I guess, since I don't know what you flashed), or "all"...
Maybe harder for you since you used a Toolkit the first time but with time and reading...
If it seems even too hard for you, then in your Toolkit is there an option to return to stock, reflash the system.img?
When I ask you what mod you flashed, I mean it's a theme? A kernel? A sound mod? A camera mod? Because if we know what you flashed, maybe we can do a revert zip file for you by replacing the files by the stock ones in the zip).
What is the exact name of the zip file, the last you flashed and gives you problem?
Read all closely and take your time...

You can extract it from a KK ROM.zip then.
Hi! i´m having a similar problem but with another file: gps.conf.
first i will help you getting audio_effects.conf:
1) download google image file, to your device and version from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
2) extract all package files (tgz, tar, zip) until you have system.img
3) follow this tutorial to open the image and get the file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294909
now the problem:
I cant apply the 5.0 ota because my gps.conf is messed up. My bootloader is locked since i managed to get root with towelroot and lived fine with xposed.
Now even placing the stock gps.conf file and removing root, for some reason there a mismatch in the file and the ota fails.
Any suggestions?

Yeah sure. Click the "guides and info threads" link in my signature. Then go to section 6 (resources). There is a stock rom thread there...

Can you post the link to the thread directly? I don't find a link to a stock ROM in section 6. There is a link to a 5.0 ROM, but not to a 4.x ROM. That I can see. It is all very confusing for people who aren't experts in all of this.
I can't believe I went to all the trouble of installing Viper and all it did was screw up my phone for installing 5.0. It never really fixed my volume problems, which is all I wanted to change.
Hello, I'm a noob at this so please be kind. I followed the below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tra...inners-guide-unlock-custom-rom-tf300-t3061648
I successfully:
Unlocked my TF300T's Bootloader
Installed custom recovery using fastboot
Rooted my tablet
Debloated the Tablet (Titanium Backup)
Backup up my current (OEM) SYSTEM ROM to microSD
So now I'm onto attempting a custom ROM. I'm a bit bored with 4.2.1 and would like to go to the same version of ROM my Note 7 has which is 6.0.1 Marshmallow or even try the new 7.0 Nougat.
I'm a little confused as to what ROM will or will not work. I see a few ROMS worth trying, but there install instructions reference a different Bootloader multiple flashes such as SuperSU or gapps.
Whats the best fool proof method to flash a new ROM with what I have and are there any simple one file ROM/ZIP/ Blob etc.. file that would do what I want?
Thank you.

Congratulations! Everything you did looks fine. So you are ready to install a custom rom. I would like to suggest one of the best: http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf300t/development/rom-t3453702 (You may follow up the tread and report there!)
Please take care very exactly on the installation instruction in post #1 given by Timduru. And don't forget that you need Kang TWRP [email protected] Download here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf300t/development/recovery-twrp-t3046479. That's mandatory!
Good luck!

Thanks. As simple as the process was, as a noob (first time attempting this) I was really concerned about screwing this up and bricking my tablet.
The one you linked to was one of the ones I was considering and hence my question regarding what works with what I have already done. The noob mind (mine anyways) finds a dozen questions at every turn. In this case I would ask the following:
Q-Do I have to use Kang TWRP?
Q-How is it different than the TWRP I used on my Tablet?
Q-Will I need to constantly change TWRP versions depending on what ROM I want to use?
Q-Is there a danger to switching TWRPs?
Q-Doesn't flashing SuperSU after I flash Gapps overright and erase SuperSU or is there some unique way to flash (push?) both at the same time?
Q-Many more I'm sure!
To the noob, almost all the instructions I read appear to be written for someone who as done this many times. The level of detail needed for the novice is just not there or lost between the jargon used, with many steps not fleshed out because the author assumes a certain level of expertise.
I will definitely read these threads as best I can, but in the interim, is there any ROM that are known to be able to be flashed via the TWRP I currently have? The author of the version I used certainly made it seem like it was that simple, load the ROM/ zip file onto the MicroSD card and when in Custom recovery simply use the INSTALL feature to navigate to the file and press a button to flash and ..."BAM!!" you are running a new ROM.

That version of KANG appears to be dead, as the thread has been closed and abondoned by the OP. So no new questions or help there....
Can I install that version over the top of my current version of TWRP the same way I did the first time? (change file to TWRP.blob etc.)

Please don't brick your tablet. First download Kang TWRP. It isn't dead. Try this https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347781183.

Yes you can.
However Kang TWRP is a xxx.img file. You also can use your current TWRP and flash the image file. Attached you will find an image and a zip version.

Sorry, bad choice of words on my part. By dead I meant that the thread was closed and I'm concerned getting answers would be harder as the OP was no longer actively looking there for questions.

Ok, so if I read your comment correctly, I can copy the .img file to an SD card, boot into recovery and flash it from there OR I can fire up fastboot and the same steps I originally did to install custom recovery from my PC to accomplish the same thing... either way I should still have custom recovery, but with the KANG version. Right?
THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU FOR RESPONDING TO MY PREVIOUS POST. I appreciate the support.
Oh no....
Well crap. I put the .img file on my SD card and boot the tablet into recovery, I flashed the .img file to the rovery not boot partition. All appeared well....but when I go back to see if I have KANG recovery, it hangs anbd says Booting Failure Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x000000000)
EDIT: After I cleaned my pants, I used abd and fastboot to flash the original Blob file using my PC. This restored the custom recovery. I was freaking out for a few minutes.
I didn't change the file name of the kang .img file. Should I have done something different?
EDIT: Successful recovery to Kang2.8.7.2 !! :good::good: I used adb and my PC to send the .img file (renamed "twrpkang.img" for simplicity) and it worked great. I'm a pro..:silly:

Bad luck! Could you please describe what does it mean? : "I flashed the .img file to the rovery not boot partition."

Not sure what I did wrong. I tried to do it within the old recovery menu and it hosed it. It found the file and mounted it successfully, but it seemed weird to be within the partition I was overwriting and writing to it. Kind of like you cant install windows while your using Windows...
The new version is much smoother.... Thanks, not to learn about this gapps super SU and how to flash all of these and in what order along with the ROM..as well as this wipe vs format thing...so confusing...
