Anyone know if there is some setting in registry or otherwise to change this? I don't know why this isn't the defualt anyways.
It sounds to me like whatever song or songs you are playing do not have album art associated with them. For me, album art is always displayed unless I downloaded a song that has no picture. In that case then yes, they just display a name.
I'm not talking about within the Zune Player on the phone, I'm talking about when you are at the home screen and the Zune Tile shows the artist you are listening to or listened to last, I want it to show the album inplace of the artist.
hi i've the same issue within zune it shows the artworks but the tile and the lockscreen don't :S
anyone has a practical solution for this problem?

I have lots of albuns in my computer and I did the ''Find Album Info'' in Zune and got the covers and all that.. Them I synced some albuns with my Omnia 7 and now when I play the music there is no album art in the background of Zune and no art in the Lockscreen.. Any ideas..?
did you enable lockscreen album art in the settings? it's in the lock/wallpaper settings.
It doesn't actually display album art, it displays artist art which is only available from the zune marketplace. So if you are in a region where you don't have access to it, you won't get any artwork in the background. It would be nice to be able to set local custom artist art, but I don't think there is any way to do that currently.
I'm in a country with Zune marketplace. I only get artwork for tracks I play off the zune marketplace. None of my own seem to work. That goes for the lock screen and even when just playing the tracks in the player. I've also done the same with Find Info etc... in Zune but no joy.

Do you still can't see album art on lockscreen?
Play a song that you don't see artist art on your phone on Zune on your PC. If Zune displays artist art when you are playing it on your PC, then that means Zune properly recognizes the song you are playing and has properly linked it with an artist that has information and art available off the Zune database.
This is highly dependent on your tags being correct, and on there being an entry for your artist in the Zune Marketplace.
If your artist does not have any information in the Zune Database, you won't get artist information, biographies, lock-screen artist photos, and all the fancy Zune features normally tied to a linked artist.
It's actually hit n miss as to whether the Zune software on PC will show artist background either - and that's for albums that have been downloaded off Zune Marketplace, and those ones DO show artwork on the phone.
Not sure what I need to enter in the tag info then to get it to recognise them. I have albums that match the Zune versions identically, and I've used the get album info to ensure they match.
Am at a bit of a loss

You can also right-click songs in your collection, and if it matches something in the Zune database, you should be able to see an option named "More about this album" which would bring you to the artist's page on the Zune Marketplace. This is an easy way to check if a specific song has been properly linked to something in the Zune library.
Any song that plays with artist photos on my PC has also displayed properly on my phone/lock-screen, so I'm not having any issues there.
Is there any way to enable displaying album art from the id3 tags in Mango, while zune is playing and phone is locked? There was an option on Green Mango for HD2 with "display album art on lockscreen", but in Mango RTM it disappeared. It wasn't working in Green Mango.
Hello,
about a week ago I updated most of my media on my phone with zune social tagger so that most songs had artist backgrounds. These backgrounds showed up on the phone during playback (back then on 7392) and when I played the song in Zune on the PC.
Sometimes I only have single song from an album. If I then searched for the album on the marketplace and found it, it would offer me 30 second snippets of all the songs but the one I have on my phone. Instead, this song would be played from my library without problems and with artist background.
However, since Mango these backgrounds are missing on some songs.
One example is the song "Renegade" from the Jay-Z album "The Blueprint".
I have only this song from the album.
The weird thing is that when I search for album in the marketplace, find it and start to play the tracks, it shows me the artist background.
However, when the track I have on my phone (Renegade) comes up, the artist background disappears.
On the PC the background is still there.
Any ideas?
OK I got a little further.
Apparently with Mango the way the artist backgrounds work has been changed at least a little bit.
The thing that was wrong in the song mentioned above (Renegade) was this:
The song is from a Jay-Z album and is by Jay-Z and Eminem. I had set the artist to this:
Jay-Z; Eminem
However, it was recognized as one artist by Zune and as such the artist of the song would show up as "Jay-Z; Eminem" which is not what I intended.
So I changed the artist tag using Windows Explorer. I first removed all the artist, then wrote in "Jay-Z" and saved, and then wrote in "Eminem" (after the auto generated semicolon) and saved again. I don't really know what's different in the artist tag now but somehow Zune seems to regocnize that there are two artist and only displays the first artist (as it should).
This fixed the missing background for this song.
Additonally, I noticed that songs which are not linked to Zune Marketplace songs now also have artist backgrounds as long as the artist tag is correct and I have an album by that artist on my phone.
For example the album "The Marshall Mathers LP" by Eminem is not in the German Zune Marketplace but I have it on my phone (not linked using zune social tagger).
When I play a song from that album I do have an artist background as long as the artist mp3 tag is set to Eminem (or set to "Eminem; xxx", as long as it is done using Windows Explorer (or probably also WMP etc.)).
However there are still artist backgrounds missing for some music from the device while they show up in the Zune software on the pc and the artist tag is correct.
For these artists I also don't have any backgrounds in when I tap on their names.
Another thing that doesn't work (probably a missing feature) is that when I play all songs by Eminem, Zune does not add songs to the list where Eminem is only the secondary artist (such as Renegade as noted above).
Hey,
I've seen a few threads on this but nothing has solved my issue, so I resort back to you guys.
When I play music on my recently-updated-to-mango device (music in my collection, not from Zune store. Too many gaps in its library for me to buy a pass), it's not showing the artwork on the livetile or the lockscreen.
I've gotten the album info, where available, from Zune on my PC and re-synced the items onto my phone.
I've ticked the option in Zune to get metadata and replace missing info.
The tracks all have artwork.
On my phone, under settings -> Lock screen & wallpaper, I've enabled "Show artist when playing music".
However, All that happens is the music tile stays on the last Zune Store browsed artist, and the lock screen fades my wallpaper out to show the coloured blurry dots background. I have the playback controls available.
Like I said, I've seen a few topics about this, but the solutions all revolve around the above options, and they're all set as they should be.
Any ideas?
Have you tried browsing the artists in the Music+Videos application? To the point where it shows the Bios and the Related Artists tabs?
I've found until the WP7 device itself downloads the info, it won't show up on the lockscreen (I figured this may be true after one artists lockscreen/background image showed up for just about every other artist on my device, until I browsed around in all of them).

I'm using Protest The Hero - Scurrilious as a test, and though the artist background is downloaded in the music tile in the background, and the marketplace link for the artist shows a number of results (including this album), but no luck
Hello,
I have a nexus 5 with android 5.01 and google Music version 5.7.1788Q.1634597
i found Music app cannot show the album art of all albums which all has a cover.jpg in the same folder of the music files (flac).
however, i have a xperia sp which has CM11 and same Music version, it can display the all cover art with the same set of folders i put into nexus 5.
anyone has any idea of this problem?
thanks!
Joseph
You can try to change album cover in Windows Media Player and then sync your music.
does anyone else have the problem that some (seemingly) random songs are shown one specific album art image instead of their own?
i dont work with folder, i have every music file tagged with the album art. usually 500x500 pixel. however for some songs android decides to just pick a random album art from another song and show it with them.

Yep.Dont know if its the app or album fault.
Hi i just delete all the Music app data and cache ... kind of force it to re load my library then it can show the album art correctly....
you can try in your case.
So after downloading this and firing it up I ran into this bug almost immediately which sadly makes the app near unusable for me.
You see I listen to a lot of music which does not have one universal album artist. Instead thee are multiple artists per album (basically a compilation album)
The problem arises when I want to open an album. Instead of getting all the tracks in an album and having the artist name underneath each track only 1 song gets displayed for each album which is usually either the first or last track.
It isn't like the songs are split into different albums either (although that would be probably worse so please don't so that if you work on fixing this). They are just completely absent from the album section.
It seems the grouping criteria involves the folder and ARTIST to be the same in order for something to get grouped as an album which isn't ideal for someone like me who listens to mostly compilation albums.
What might be a good solution is implementing a feature I have seen in another music player called rocket player. With rocket player you can actually select how you want albums grouped. For example I have it set so that songs which are in the same folder and are listed as being from the same album are grouped under one album. The artist tag doesn't actually come into play in this way which stops this issue with the sorting from actually happening.
I really do hope this gets fixed soon as for me it is a major drawback which makes the app almost unusable. At the very least implementing an option so the user can set how albums are grouped would be ideal.
I have attached some screenshots showing this issue below. (I have also attached a screenshot of what the album should look like when seen from another music player as well as a screenshot of that album grouping feature I talked about with rocket player)
Attachment Key:
First Image is what I see in Encore
Second and third image is what I was supposed to see (I.E those are all the songs that should be displaying)
Fourth image shows the Album grouping feature from rocket player
