I have tried searching for this and come back with no results or results that I cannot follow, so I was wondering if someone could put this in plain english for me. I want the people app on a fully functioning ROM, and cannot seem to find any available for a 32b. The ones I have tried that work natively (wi-fi, bluetooth etc) have the home screen loading problem and a lot of force closes, and the ones without the loading etc have problems with wi-fi etc. The only real reason for wanting the Sense UI is the people app, as I can have a slight Sense mod with enoch's theme for cyanogen, but the people app is what I would really like, for the facebook functionality. Is there anyway of getting this into a useable ROM? Thanks
Anyone have any ideas?
its completly dependent on the SENSEUI framework, it wont work on anythitng but sense roms...sorry...
Ah I figured that would be the case. What about the taiwanese SenseUI update for the Magic. Any chance of porting the framework for that or just having the bits necessary to run the People app?
no because its still a sense build. lol. there are some 2.0 roms out there though if you are rooted. 2.0 has auto facebook integration with your contacts as well
Thanks for the heads up, yeah I am rooted, rocking CM at the moment.
yeah try some 2.0 roms i know there are like 3 or 4 floating around, arent 100 percent stable and you cannot use your camera on them though..
Firstly for those thinking, "just get DarchDroid! It's already AOSP," I would first like to explore this option. I like Sense UI, just hate the lag associated with certain Sense apps and would at least like to try the AOSP versions before completely switching to a new ROM.
I did some searching, but couldn't find any sure apk's that will work on a CDMA Hero. The closest I found was some working for the EVO 4G (here), but I don't want to risk it not working on the Hero.
Is it possible for someone to pull some apk's from DarchDroid ROM and have them work on Sense-based ROMs?
Suppose there are working apk's, will they replace or coexist with the HTC apps?
Thanks in advance, and I apologize if this was already done.
Edit: found some apk's!
Edit 2: apparently I suck at searching; there was another thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667715#7 but at least my thread has the DeskClock.apk
I feel your pain, or at least I did. I liked sense but hated all the lag such as the lag when scrolling threw contacts and SMS. All those little small areas where it would lag drove me crazy. I tried installing the apks from darchdroid but it didn't work so I searched it up. Got the same results as you. I had no choice but to go with darchdroid but I am more than satisfied now. Throw launcherpro on it and you wont regret it. AOSP is like a simplified less flashy version and I love it. I hope some one has a real answer for you though because I'm curious myself. Good luck.
Oh. If you do end up trying darchdroid, try out gomorrah's blackmod theme for it. It's sick.
Well, I managed to find the AOSP messaging app when I wasn't even looking for it! Go figure. It was in a thread talking about keyboard lag. Some claim that for texting, using AOSP messaging app has much less keyboard lag than the HTC messaging app. For those curious, it's here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6309233&postcount=6
Oh and it looks like it replaces the HTC messaging app; they cannot coexist.
Edit: It also occurred to me that flipz included the AOSP alarm as part of his AOSP lock screen fix!
Much less lag. The messaging app is the only one that worked when I tried replacing them though. The phone and contacts apps were giving problems. I didn't know what to do so I just went with darchdroid. If you like sense, maybe there is a way to add it to an AOSP ROM. Maybe you can just try installing the HTC Sense launcher apk on darch's ROM.
I have finally gotten my Aria rooted and running with both Liberated FR008 and CM 6.1. I am looking for people who have tried both and why they decided one or the other. I like the way CM lets you customize the Mod itself but I miss the Sense widgets that the Liberated has on it. I'm hoping that some of you have found things within either Rom that I have not discovered yet to push me in either direction. Thanks for the help.

CM without a doubt. Yea the sense widgets are nice and fancy but to be honest, that's a small sacrifice for complete customizability.

Do you use a Bluetooth headset with your Aria? If so, then CM 6.1 fully implements all of the BT Voice Dialing features that have been added to Froyo 2.2, whereas HTC has not fully implemented all of the BT Voice dialing features. Both of these ROMs will launch the Voice Dialing app by pressing the headset button, however, the Voice Dialing app can apparently be started in BT mode which allows you speak the voice command through the BT headset. On HTC Sense the Voice Dialing app will launch, but it is not running in BT mode, so you have to speak the commands into the phone's mic.
Another thing I noticed is that HTC is not using the Froyo email client which allows for a combined inbox.
Other than that, to each his own. I am running CM 6.1, but I have installed the HTC_IME keyboard; it is the only thing from Sense that I really missed.
They are both excellent roms, but I must agree with the above statements. Especially since CM is coming out with 2.3 for Aria hopefully in the near future.
I liked the sense widgets as well but I was able to fix that craving with beautiful widgets and launcher pro. Life is good on CM 6.1.1. Now if I could just fix my exchange bug that keeps showing up every couple of days...
None. I would choose Liberated R012. Works flawless and it doesn't lag like the Froyo ROM. CM is great but the basic android looks horrible to be honest.
A few things keep me on Sense, even though I really like CM. Last time I ran CM6, it did not have copy/paste in the Email app or the Browser whereas Sense has it. Gingerbread seems to have better text selection, so when that's available for Aria, I'm there!
Also, Gallery 3D does not run well on my phone.
Lockscreen gestures on CM are a pretty huge feature for me... without unlocking the phone, I can draw a heart to call my wife, an H to call home, a C to activate the camera and a V to activate the camcorder. You can use a gesture to do almost anything on the phone, so these are just a few basic examples.
guys I am looking at rooting my phone, but instead of flashing a whole new rom onto it, can I just do the root and have clockwork recovery installed, then can I install just the froyo update ontop of what I already have on my phone?

There is no Froyo update for your phone.
so the froyo rom thats release and is used by attn1 etc isnt that the froyo update? Cause I heard its available in Asia atm.
Also without the update or flashing a new room, but rooting the phone and installing titanium backup etc, I know that I can delete bloatware apps using titanium backup, can I also move apps to sd without having froyo installed but as the phone is rooted, will it allow me to do so?
Thanks again

ATTN is a rom, it is not an update. You have to start from scratch. Also you cannot remove bloatware with Titanium or any other app.
Liberated, but without sense launcher. I love the way sense sync does it's job and keep my contacts updated with their fb and twitter. I know there is ways for this in cm but its not the same. I use launcherpro because sense launcher is kinda laggy.
You will probably get bored sense Widgets after some time. I just like clock and weather widget and there is absolutely the same known as fancy widgets.

That's the kind of info I've been looking for, did not know CM could do that but still investigating the Rom. Thanks for the info.

I agree that R012 seemed more stable than FR008, and a tad more responsive. However, R012 does not support app2sd so I can't have as much crap on my phone as I do now. I did slim down the FR008 ROM a bit by removing the Mail, MMS, calendar apps, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube as well as most the Sense widgets (you delete them from ATTN1's zip file before flashing).
I have tried CM6, many people have good things to say about it but the UI just seems so... unpolished for lack of better word. Yeah, this is eye candy, but I like the Sense eye candy. Having 7 home screens helps too. Last but not least, for the life of me I cannot figure out how to disable the home screen animation and it annoys me to no end so CM had to go. Credit where credit is due... it does seem very zippy on the Aria.

Lag? Maybe it's because I am using Launcher Pro but my phone moves on both FR008 and CM 6.1.1. Very crisp and very responsive. The only thing that lags for me is the gallery app in CM. Everything in FR008 is butter.

I second launcherpro! I paid for launcherpro and beautiful widgets and I don't miss sense at all. Launcherpro has a nice calendar widget(like sense) and a nice messaging widget as well as some others. Launcherpro is faster than sense for me as well. Beautiful widgets can look just like the sense clock/weather widget but with tons of skins to choose from. Both are worth every penny.

No, you can't. Titanium backup will not do this on nand-locked phones, even with root. Until S-OFF is available for the Aria, it is nand-locked.
The Froyo IS available for the Aria if you have clockwork - just flash LA FR008 or CM6 - soon CM7.

Soon CM7?? yay!
Sounds exciting. How long are we going to wait approximately for a RC version?

Soo.. I know the title isn't very specific.. but I would like to throw a question in here and get some responses..
So.. WHAT excatly is MIUI compared to other ROMs?
To me, MIUI is "just" plain (AOSP?) Android with every single "GO"-App available. GO Launcher, GO SMS.. and so on.
So.. what does MIUI exactly have, that e.g. CM with every app changed to some GO-App doesn't have?
MIUI is skinned to kinda "copy" Iphone-style..sure.. but is that really all?
Benchmarks show there are some differences..
So I wonder what's left of MIUI if you install a MIUI based ROM and change any GO-App to another one?
________
'Cause most ppl say they love MIUI for how it looks like. But honestly.. I could also use stock Android with e.g. Motoblur and change the launcher and so on.. so why going through the hassle to root and install a completely new ROM?
Ty everyone
And yes, I used the search, but didn't find anything relevant.. maybe because "MIUI" & "GO" are a liiiiittle bit vague
We need to know the history. MIUI just want to be like IOS, but in the Android enviroment. AOSP is just a plain OS, CM was loaded witb tons of tweaks but the UI not that eyecandy. HTC? Good but too dark to be like IOS and bloated. So MIUI with the UI mimic IOS with slight modification came. For me it is another CM with the stress more on UI.

Ps sorry for bad English
Wasn't the first MIUI ROM was found accidently? IIRC, the dev passed away and his work was found and released. Maybe I'm thinking of something else?

A renaissance artist perhaps? MIUI is developed by a Chinese team and someone came across it and started translating it.
There's plenty of info and screenshots etc. over at http://www.miui-dev.com which is the site run by the translating team.
Essentially it does largely look to be making Android more iOS-like. It's based on FroYo AOSP (Gingerbread soon) but with a _lot_ of alterations. It shares a little bit of code with CM as far as the addins.
In my opinion MIUI is the first Android Distro because it proposes a completely different way of Android where other ROMs are just forks.
Miui is the simple face of ios with the power of android.

MIUI has the most powerful and easiest theme engine..I really wish it was open source so others could use the theme engine..Its really that nice and simple to use..such a shame..
MIUI is so much better then stock android:
here's a list of apps that avalible only on miui:
Monitor (let you block apps and see how much data you have used)
Theme manager (no more zip's, really easy to theme stuff)
Better mms app
file mamanger
Miui gallery and camera
miui music
special lockscreen - much better the stock
folders - better the stock
quick settings on the notification bar
better phone app
easier to use setting's
miui wheater (avalible for all now)
some widgets like conatcs and etc...
if you chineese you can use the update app which auto update your phone to the latest version.
battery monitor
and much more that I might forgot
I'll go ahead and toss my two cents in...
Simple version-- I rooted my phone about 6 weeks ago, I flashed several roms in the first two days. (Cyanogen, Mikfroyo, Myns) Then I flashed MIUI. That was the last time I flashed a rom...
(If you want to know more, PM me and I'll give you the L O N G version of why MIUI is the best in my opinion)
Not a single one of the "GO" apps I've heard of including the two your mentioned are a part of MIUI. The post above me outlines a lot of the features but there is also so much more. I just discovered a feature the other day I never realized was there.
Try it, if you don't like it, NANDROID!! Make sure to grab yourself a few themes off of the MIUI forum. Again, I've installed one theme since I flashed MIUI ignoring the other 100 simply because what I have, Elite HD by bustadroid, is the best damn theme (period)
I just started to use Miui Camera for my Milestone today. Awesome fast!
Maybe can someone compile a list of Miui's apps and post links here?

MIUI isn't open source?? Why the heck did they do that? :-/
Hey everyone,
I love my Infuse but the only thing is I absolutely HATE TouchWiz. I love HTC's Sense but unfortunately AFAIK there isn't a way of getting that on here.
Anyways back to my main point, what is the easiest way to get rid of TouchWiz and Samsung's Dialer, E-Mail Client and SMS Client? I much prefer the stock Android version of everything so if someone could please point me in the right direction that would be great.
My phone IS rooted BTW incase that makes things easier
Thanks!
CM 7 is in the process of being ported to the infuse, check the development section - still doesn't have all bugs worked out yet, but that's your only alternative to TouchWiz

Until CM7 is available you could change the launcher and use market apps to do SMS, Email, etc...
Just delete/move or freeze the APKs using a root-enabled file explorer or Titanium Backup. Then you can install some alternative apps, lockscreens, and launchers.
Alternatively, you might want to check out some of the ROMs in the dev section. You can easily get a close-to-AOSP feel with Infused v2 and the lockscreen addon.
Yeah I'm always watching the CM7 thread to see what's new, etc.
Am I able to get the AOSP APK's for the dialer, sms and e-mail from somewhere? I would change my launcher but without the AOSP APK's I don't see the point
I am currently on Infused V2 with the lockscreen addon, just want to get rid of the Samsung feel ;-)
Thanks for everyone's help!
the dialer and contacts would be difficult to permanantly change. way back designgears tried an aosp look rom for the captivate and he wasn't able to change the dialer. you can get go contacts/dialer which is a single app much like aosp with added features and is themeable.
you can change the sms to aosp I believe but I'm not sure why you'd want to, it is really limited. there are many market apps you can use. go sms pro and handcent are very popular.
and there are many launcher in the market for you to choose. the gingerbread one from Eugene373 is same as gtg puts in his roms I believe.
I guess I will just wait until CM7 is all ready
I like simplicity, I think the Samsung SMS, E-mail and dialer are way too bloated. I look at it this way, if the main used functions of my phone are simple and basic then I won't have too many problems with the phone with daily use.

well it sounds like you might like go dialer/contacts then, it has some additional features but isn't very complicated at all. only issue is that every time it gets upgraded the defaults get cleared and you need to set them back to go contacts for like 4-5 different scenarios. it is a good app but the defaults system on android can get annoying. and I do believe aosp sms will work on this phone, just haven't seen it tried. it was done many times on the sgs phones because earlier versions of tw sms had weird problems with the time stamps, especially on custom roms, that and the theme was pretty gross.
Well I know SMS is possible for sure because I was using Refuse 1.7 before I upgraded to Infuse and it has the AOSP SMS which was nice
Hopefully CM7 gets finished up sooner than later
As mentioned, you have many options in the market...
popular launcher apps
go launcher
zeam launcher (i use on nook)
launcher pro (i use on infuse)
adw launcher (have on my son's phone)
android 2.3 launcher
SPB Shell 3D (looks like an amazing launcher)
and more
sms
chomp
go
handcent (i use)
and more
Dialers
I rarely make calls so I have not really looked into changing the dialer.
