Hey sorry everyone in case this is a known issue and I failed to find it and also sorry for not posting it in the NSCollab thread but seeing as I'm new here I don't have poting rights in the dev forums yet.
I switched from my stock NS to NSCollab 1.0.17 yesterday and today I noticed that I can't open the youtube app anymore and I also can't un-/reinstall or update it.
Did yomething go wrong flashing or is it my own fault for only skimming my appbrain list before pushing most of it onto the new rom?
Can I install the cm7 gapps zip on nscollab?
Questions over questions
oh and on a side note (just remembered it and didn't look for an answer myself yet so feel freee to ignore the question): Which of the cpu clocking settings is most like the stock one? conservative or on demand? And what if I use other apps to set it like setcpu or juice defender? do i have to remove the cm7 settings somehow?
Just go into /system/app and find youtube.apk and delete it using a file manager or adb. Then go into the market and install the youtube app from there.
Ondemand is the stock governor.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
hrm can't be deleted because the file system is read-only?
Even so - shouldn't rooting have taken care of that?
Sorry - android noob here. THough basically I know about linux permissions etc....
I use Super Manager, it will change the attributes for any file you want to delete.
Had this same issue, simply fix use root manager and navigate to /system/app as zephiK said then at the top tap the "Mount R/W" then delete the youtube.apk file and download it from the Market.
ah - is see i can change the way filesystems are mounted. with nscollab using explorer I thought I'd go for buying root explorer for that. works like a charm. plus i almost feel at home now being a linux guy on pc
Thanks everone
about the cpu-governors: are you sure? for me on-demand uses battery like there's no tomorrow with the same widgets/services/connections active I always had on stock NS while conservative seems to be in the same ballpark according to battery monitor widget. (and yes - the battery has been calibrated since i put on the custom rom and both governors are being used with min freq 100 and max freq 1000)
Yeah stock uses ondemand. You can play around with it and find out which is better.
Personally battery life for me has been fine so I never bothered with it.

Sorry - one more question. 1.20 can only be flashed above 1.19 without data-wipe? The "or above" made me think of a typo and I run 1.18 atm

so it was a typo by frank in the nscollab thread? I'm asking because 1.0.19 and 1.0.20 have different launchers again from 1.0.18

Quick questions. 1. Just got my Nexsus S Saturday; coming from iPhone 4, and I have managed to root and installed CM 7 build 150 nightly and want to know. Do I have to do a complete wipe every time a new nightly comes out? Or can I just update? I have done the backup of my ROM the very first time and have actually backed up my ROM twice just be safe.
Other question maybe someone knows is, anyone using the Nexsus S on AT&T? Want to know if adjusting the build.prop files to speed up the download and upload speeds works? Reason is my I phone's download up load are much faster than the Nexsus S. Would like to at least match the speeds to my iPhone. Thanks.

Between nightlys you don't have to wipe. If they are changing the kernel (or you're experience other problems) wiping cache and dalvik cache might be necessary (in case of "other problems" fixing permissions in cwm recovery might also help).

I've used all of the data tweaks, and honestly, it hasn't made it anywhere near iPhone speeds for me. That could just be my area, though.

I just installed the KD1 radio on my Nexus S and now my upload speed is uncapped. not as good as my iPhone 4, but now I am getting 1.9 - 2.8 download and upload .83-.99.
This is without any mod to the build.prop file. Don't if i should try it.
I might have take back my Nexus S back to Best Buy since I am getting the bug where the find button goes crazy without touching it.

What do you get on your iPhone 4?
You can always add the build.prop very easily. Once you change that file and save it a back up is created automatically.

On my iPhone 4 I normally get from 2.0 - 3.0 and sometimes as much as 3.3 download. Upload is always 1.2 and 1.5 unless I'm at home which is around .80.
Which radio are you using? Also what settings you end up using for the build.prop file? Did you just add them at the end if the file and rebooted twice? Will test out once I see what settings you used and radio.
I'm having a really bad issue with the search key going off in its own. Now it does more since i changed over the KD1 radio.

OK thanks will check the radio thread must of missed it. I thought you had KB3? Also I went ahead installed the KB3 Radio and wow. Overall getting 2.8 down but the upload is low in the .30. this is of course without adding anything to the build.prop file.

A lot of people here have something in their signatures, called the "supercharger script", which they use along with the rom of their choice...I googled up the script and found that it can be implemented on any rom and device...but before I proceeded I just wanted to confirm...
1) How did you implement this on our device?? On which rom/s???
2) Does it actually improve performance without negatively affecting battery life???
3) What version of the script do you use, along with which version of busybox??? (I have ver1.17.2, so is it okay?)
4) Since that script consists of a lot of combinations, which one do you prefer???
And, if I am not wrong, then this is the official thread:

1. I implemented this one my device using Script Manager app ( Get it from Market) and have used it on all ROMs so far.....
2. Yes, performance increased and no battery life was affected.
3. I used the same BusyBox version as yours - 1.17.2.
4. I don't exactly remember what option I used but you can select one according to your choice when you are asked....

Thank you for your reply, but this post is relatively old...so I tried it out on my own...but it unfortunately didn't work...whatever option I tried, it made my launcher bulletproof (which is the opposit of what I wanted)...so I went back and "un-supercharged"...maybe I did something work (or maybe it interferes with some scripts in creed's v1.6)...

I installed Sky Ice Cream Sandwich ROM 6.5. Looks like it comes with romracer's kernel? Linux version 2.6.35.11+ it says in CPU Spy. I don't know much about kernels yet but I've seen some posts about Da_g's kernel and Faux123's kernels working. Check out the Development section
already checked it out
i did check it out i was just wanting to hear from some first person accounts, i love it too but i just want the most out of my phone you know?
I am using da_g .42 with 178 script and had one sod today. I may need to try a slower setting by flashing the 172 script if it happens again. The faux 123 worked fine and it has a 172 or close to it, speed..I did not have an sod with it.
Delete modules folder so you won't get sod.

I am new & this is my first post. I have spent all weekend reading these forums and installing mods - GB & ICS. What I would like... is to be able to use Time Warner Cable 's TV app for Droid which allows me to watch cable TV and manage my DVR *and* use my Online Banking app to deposit checks. Both these require that the device not be rooted and TWC TV requires ICS. Is there a way to unroot an ICS ROM that is currently on my rooted phone - while still keeping all the themes/apps etc that the rooted MOD gives me (except SU,) and if so, how do you recommend I go about doing this? (It doesn't appear that using something like OneClick is going to do this for me.) I have gone from Froyo to rooted GB, Infinitum's ICS 1.1.1, then to UCLB3-CWM and would like to try ICS again...
Is there a way to take a ICS mod and install it in such a way that it appears as UNrooted stock ICS yet keeps the perks (except SU) ?
Thanks for your time and thoughts... Jami
Welcome... there is not any way to be unrooted and have ics on the infuse at the same time. Sorry, I know that is not the answer you were wanting to hear. Regards.

Actually...I think it is possible to have an unrooted ics Rom...most have it built in already but what gives the Rom root is "Su" and "superuser"
1) Get a Rom
2) Open it up with 7zip or another archive program
3) go to /system/xbin and delete the file named "Su"
4) go to /system/apps and delete the apk named "superuser"
5) put the modified Rom on your phone (I say modified cause you deleted two files)
6) flash like normal in recovery...follow instructions from the Roms op
If my theory is correct you should now be on ics with out root...ill be getting my infuse any minute now (or hour...) And ill be able to test it myself if you don't want to...you do risk getting bootloops by deleting the above files...you may also lose some of the ics Roms functions...

Theory appears sound and correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like the OP wants the functionality of a phone that is both rooted (TWC app) and unrooted (all other apps mods themes that require root)...not simply unrooted ICS.
It appears to me that a choice needs to be made between running rooted for one app or unrooted for everything else the OP wants.
There is another thread floating around here on the Infuse board about the TWC app requiring an unrooted phone. I saw it few days ago...someone there may have found a solution.

Thanks MG- it was the likely loss of some functionality that would not allow the 2 apps that she wants to perform, was the reason for my answer. I hope you are right, although I will feel terrible about giving someone a wrong answer.

I know the newest version of superuser has an option to temporary unroot. Not sure if this would work for the apps you are asking about but I'm assuming it was added for situations like this.
You just open the app and swipe over to the info tab, which is on the fat left I believe. Then there is a check box for temp unroot.
Hope this helps bc it would def be the easiest solution.

SuperSU and I think superuser both have options to disable root. If its a Cyanogen based ROM, there's another option to disable root in the settings menu.

Well...if you want, I can make a flashable root package...as in all that will be flashed is su and superuser...re-enabling root, so you could delete both su and superuser with a root file explorer when you need unroot and when you need root just flash the root package...kinda time consuming and a pain if your gonna be using those apps often...but its an option...
But yeah, the disable root option is available in my htc vivids superuser which is running ics...so try that first, or some of the other listed suggestions...

Interesting.. good find / may be workable for OP's needs.
Wow - thanks for all the replies!
Given all the advice, and considering my options - I think the way to go is to see if I can use a stock ICS rom (if that exisits - un mod'ed) on my Infuse. So I'll forgo the extras of a mod but I will be able to get the TWC TV app & the Banking functionality I want. Thanks to Smokestack's comment I did some more poking around and found a link to the hacked TWC TV apk for rooted phones and tablets in case anyone's interested. That's nice but it only gets me half way there.
Would anyone like to recommend a stock or almost stock ICS that I can use for my Infuse? Then I will take MG2195 directions and put them to the test Thanks, Jami
that's a kind offer but I'm hoping to either find a rom without SU or one I can turn SU off entirely on.

Most everyone will have their favorite and all that I have flashed have been good. The one, imho, that seems most stable is Entropy512's build, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601844
Try 3 or 4 and you, too will have a favorite.
Ok our device is great without ram assistance the reason i decided to get this mod ported is I still have my 530mb Linux swap partition on my 64GB SD card from when I was using it on my GT-I9300 and I didn't really want to re-partition my SD-card so instead of wiping it off I might aswel use it as SWAP and hey if anything it will help our devices , it wont hurt it. And yes I know we have plenty of ram but ay if there is even the slightest chance it may help down the track why not ay? Ok so if you want to know about the MOD here is the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1814311&highlight=swap
But do not download the MOD zip on that thread as it is not ported to our device: bellow is our version of the mod.
-=ATTENTION=-If you have installed my rom > [PANDORIAM] < or any other rom with Busybox and Init.D support then just skip to the second step
1st STEP - Note you will need Root access, A kernel with support, I am using >>> (Perseus) by Andreilux & Init.d support Look at my other thread if you do not have Init.D support it can be easily done. Also to have Init.D support you will need BusyBox I reccomend Stericson Busybox . Once downloaded and installed open it and Make sure you choose to install busybox files in >>>>>> system/xbin you will see an option for this when you open up the busybox app.
2nd STEP - You also need a partition to be used as swap. I used a mini-tool partition Home edition (Free) Now when you make your partition use the first partition section of your SD-card for your main partition that you always use, then leave some space at the end of the SD-card (I would say no more then 250mb and this is probably more then enough for our devices) to make your swap partition please note the partition type HAS to be -=Linux Swap=- now thats all done................................
Instructions are very simple. Go into Recovery Mode > Choose to install zip from sd-card > select the hard-swap zip file > reboot
If you want to uninstall do the same thing but flash the uninstall zip instead.
If you want more clear detailed description and also instructions about this mod then goto the main thread I pasted above. I tried to test this mod by opening every app i can think off and not closing them to try and see if the swap will be used, I managed to get almost 6.5mb of the swap in use LOOL you can see how good our memory is, as time goes on and your device does not get switched off, this amount will likely rise or go down depending on what you do for example after a day of hectic use it actually reached 30mb of swap used but after awhile this went back down (Because our phone is a machine!! ).... Oh well I guess my device is now even more future proof
Thanks to Yank555 for porting this for us this also Andreilux for his awesome kernel and whoever else I missed. Peace V

I don't get it... we have 2GB of ram on a mobile phone, what are you doing that requires a swap file on top of that may I ask?
though, if it's just because you can, then very well haha!
tbh on a mobile device I firmly believe the main use of a swap file is to wear your SDcard down faster.

LOOL yeh it is mainly because I can hahah and because i didnt want to re-partition my SD-Card so instead of having 530mb wasted, I used it for swap, and i thought i may aswell share it. And yes if the swap is heavly used it may wear it down faster which is why i said create the small partition at the end of the sdcard so it wont affect the majority. And because we have 2gb it wont be used very often so should be fine that being said people on devices have been using hardswap for over a year without damaging anything. And thats with a device with less memory so its actually in use alot more then ours
