Can't turn off? - Thunderbolt General

Hey guys i have a question. I'm running virus rom senseless with drod kernel and everytime i plug in my phone to charge it after it being off it boots into clockwork recovery. Is this a normal thing with cwm or a problem with the kernel or rom? Or maybe I'm just missing something entirely. I just find it strange i can't charge with it off any longer. Hahh thanks for any insight.

In short, it is just the way it works for now. Only way around it is too activate fast boot on your phone and then use the shut off feature. This keeps most from seeing the recovery screen. Some have reported that this trick didn't work for them.
Also there is a thread on this. If you use the search up top you will be able to read the whole issue and keep up with any fixes or updates...

Alright man thanks for the reply. And ill do that.

Thanks

I'll bet it's plugged in isn't it? It's a cwm bug or something. Unplug it and it will shut off.

I agree. Just sharing what I know of the issue.
Yeah but that's the whole idea. I want to shut it down and charge it. It shatges quicker that way. I did unplug it and it worked likeyou said. Defeats the purpose though. Haha

I don't think there is a solution, I'm pretty sure this is just a problem with the recovery. I'm not sure if koush could fix it or not. It might just be one of those things where if you want clockwork recovery, you gotta live with the bug. I'll take clockwork.

Nope, for the inspire just clockwork
I've heard turning fastboot off works. Haven't tried it myself yet though.

I have the same issue... Phone will boot right back up after I shut it off and its not even plugged in... Does yours do it too or is it just me? Fast boot is off too.

Mine only does it when the phone it plugged in. It stays off when it isn't
I also have this problem. I usually turn off my phone before bed time.
Rooted a few days ago, and this issue sucks. Will clockwork ever get fixed to solve this problem?

[Q] Battery stats wiping itself at every reboot

Hi guys,
I was wondering if I'm the only one seeing it's battery stats wipe itself after (almost) every reboot no mather wich rom I use.
I'm running the latest recovery.
Is this behavior intended? Is it possible to prevent this?
Thanks
I get it too, makes it very difficult to track battery life. I don't think its intended might just be something broken because of a change that fixed something else.

Glad to see I'm not the only one having this issue. Are you using ClockworkMod 5.0.2.0?
It looks like I have this issue since I updated my recovery a couple weeks ago but I'm too lazy to test
I am. Been for a while, maybe that's what's doing, no idea. I'm just as lazy lol.

Phone won't boot.

I was using the Alpha Cyanogen build along with the latest Modaco. Now phone won't boot. Nothing.
Any ideas?
First, this doesn't belong in the development section. Second, it really doesn't require it's own thread. Mods, please move this to the appropriate section.
first question, is your battery charged? Before you answer, keep in mind that modaco does not support charging while the device is off. So if you used the phone until it died and then tried charging, it will not charge and therefore will not boot.
If you have an external battery charger and can confirm the battery is charged, can you get into bootloader by holding volume down button and power button?

Sorry.. Don't mean to post in the wrong section.
The battery is fully charged, and I also have a spare battery that still had some charge, and neither will work. Or even charge.
It won't go into bootloader. Screen doesn't even flash on. Has no physical damage at all.

First question...Did your phone ever work/boot with your current setup?
Second...Did you make any changes...i.e. flashing a different kernel, etc..
Third...Do you have kids?
Try unplugging your phone, removing the battery then just put the charged battery in and hold down the power button....
I know my response sounds like I threw in a bit of sarcasm BUT I only say this since I've come across an issue where I can't turn my phone on if the usb cable is plugged in and I switch out the battery then try to turn it on. I have to remove the battery and the cable then insert battery and press the power button. Strange I know but it happens some times for some reason unknown to me.
Yeah, the phone had been working fine before this. I was using the Cyanogen alpha build for about a week without any issues.
I was just sending an email at the time, no changes at all.
And no, I don't have kids yet. =)
I've tried taking the battery out. Plugging it in and charging, it won't even show that it's charging. Tried holding down the power + volume down. Also tried holding down power + volume up + volume down for 30 seconds, and then a minute.
Nothing happens. Really don't want to pay for a repair from HTC.
Its technically under warranty, but it has been voided by flashing a custom rom, etc.
If they can't turn it on, they won't know that it's been flashed. Best bet is to send it back under warranty. Dunno what else to tell you. But if you can't get it to boot at all, how do you think they will?
Sent from my RubiX CubeD XtremE MT4GS using XDA App
Heh. That's what I was thinking.
But, just wanted to check with you guys to see if there might be something I'm not trying.
If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.
Thanks to everyone for their help.
EDIT: Also, I'm assuming this is somekind of hardware failure. Why would a ROM / Bootloader disable the phone like this?
Give this a shot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242450
It's the Force-Restart button sequence.

Stranger things have happened. Make sure that you have the correct drivers then adb devices and see if you get your serial number. It is a first step to work from.

Take it to t mobile. . Sounds like it maybe a hardware issue in which case you'll get a new phone.
Our phone isn't a year old so you should be fine. Don't tell them you did anything to it say it turned off and never came back on. they will probably check the water damage sticker and void stickers and try to turn it on. After that they will ship it to wherever and get you a new phone asap.

That's what it seems like as well. Just hope they don't have some special way of booting it, only to discover that I have a custom bootloader and ROM. =/
I already have an RMA number from HTC. Just wanted to go through all my options before I ship it off to them.

Anyone bored and feel like looking through a kmsg or 2?

So I am trying to fix my wife's phone. She keeps getting random reboots. It started on stock. I rooted and flashed a couple of different roms and the problem persists. Thanks to qkster I managed to copy 2 last_kmsg logs from the last 2 reboots. The first one I was listening to Pandora and halfway through the song the phone rebooted. The second one I had just sent a text and turned the screen off. Couple minutes later it wouldn't come back on as if it was completely off.
I tried going to jb over the weekend (phone was screwing up anyway so I figured what the hell) but lost my imei. So went back to stock. Fully wiped everything. Flashed mg's infinitum ics since out of all the roms I've tried that one runs the best. Been on it 3 days now.
In my completely uneducated opinion the reboots are caused by some kind of memory issue.
I'm sure it's hardware related and was just wondering if someone with a larger IQ than me could give me an idea of how to fix it. I'm 7 months away from an upgrade.
I've looked at the battery to make sure the connecters were clean and nothing was broken.
Thanks for whatever help anyone can give.

Looks like it could be a problem with your audio/dac - that would be my take, anyway. That's what all this stuff is about: unable to get clock pcm, wm8994_samsung.c (wm8994_resume,3961) ]. wm8994 is the Wolfson DAC in the Infuse. PCM Out of curiosity, have you tried VoodooSound? I wonder if the anti-jitter setting would make a difference...
I am not an expert - just curious!
I never tried to use voodoo. Never even looked into it. I will look into that though. Thanks.
Edit - I'm running a cm9 base rom. Infinitum. Isn't voodoo automatically on in cm9?

It is an odd problem to have. Normally, people use VS to take advantage of the Wolfson chip. If it works, great! One little thing I might mention - a kind of odd behavior with VS in JB - Even if you don't use the bass boost, VS seem to limit the output volume. All you have to do is click Bass Boost (not enable or anything, just open the menu setting) and the sound gates open. This does not happen if you enable Smart Amplifier btw.
Things seem to be a bit better with voodoo sound. Been on pa jellybean for a couple days now. 1 reboot but I couldn't get a last kmsg.
Thanks for helping me!

Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
These problems can also be related to particular apps. The problem you describe on Oct 8 is pretty common. You might try increasing your dalvik cache size if your phone freezes after using certain intensive apps. To do this, you need to edit your build.prop Look around for suggestions on best settings.
Thanks for the help. I've made my way to jb and using zram. Thought that might help. Will look into dalvik cache. I have tried googling phrases from the kmsg but I don't have the basic understanding i guess. Again I appreciate your time and suggestions
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Well, in the last one there's something going on with your touchscreen. Have you ever overclocked this phone? Have you noticed that it gets hot? Honestly, if you were playing a game for an extended period of time, it would get hot anyway. I'm guessing there is/was a heat issue...
I actually went to flash the oc kernel for the cm10 when I got to jb but kept boot looping. So I never got oc running. The last message I posted was the third time in a row the phone rebooted. I was reading the kmsg from the second reboot when it rebooted. Weird.
But no its not getting hot. It kept saying something about the USB probe or something. I figured its something with my charger/USB port.

Sorry, what kept saying something about the USB probe? Internal components also use USB. It's not just the port.
I'm sorry. I must have misread it. It said ta probe. And then calibration. I don't know. I'm pretty sure the phone has a hardware issue and will try to keep it together long enough to upgrade. Though it may be placebo I think voodoo sound does help a little bit.
Thanks again.

A quick question for the knowledgeable guys at XDA

So my Blaze is having some catastrophic problems. It started out the other day by turning off and then vibrating like crazy in my pocket in the same way it would of you were holding the power key down, and it wouldn't stop. I pulled the battery, replaced it and it immediately started vibrating and wouldn't stop as if the power button were stuck in.
Long story short I took my phone apart and removed the plastic button and can get it to boot and stay on for a while. It still craps out sometimes, but I've had it on for a couple hours now with out the plastic part of the power button. I can still hit the button with a pen, BUT here lies my problem...
If I so much as look at the power button funny, it decides that it wants to get stuck down and won't go back up. The actual moving part doesn't get stuck, I think it's electrical.
So if anyone has any clever ideas on how to fix this, I won't have the money for a new phone for a couple weeks and it will make my life very happy to be able to make this one usable
It works sort of if I never have to press the power key, and I remember using a ROM that had the volume locker wake option, but for the life of me I can't remember which one it is. So if someone could help me out there too, that'd be great

Gosh I'm kinda flash crazy, I believe I was on the most recent version of Paranoid Android with whatever version of LZ Kernel comes with it. I originally thought it may be a ROM / Kernel issue so I flashed CM10, and it was still broken.
I don't actually think my problem is a software (ROM or kernel) problem. If it's stuck resetting and I pull and replace the battery, it starts to boot without me touching the button. That means the problem is occurring before any of the software even loads.
I'm pretty certain it's a problem with the button. If I so much as touch it, it acts like it's stuck depressed. I think it may also be heat related, so maybe the ROM or kernel may have caused some overhearing that damages the hardware, but I don't know. It was definitely super hot when it first started.
Hope that helps you!
And if any devs or anyone has any idea about this.. That'd be great
