What app is everyone using, any word on when skype is coming? I've tried yahoo, but i cant seem to get it to work

Fring works for me. I heard Tango also works.

Well an app that can connect my TB to a computer. Any app like that?!

Phonemypc is easy to setup but it's a paid app.

i still don't understand why google hasn't intergrated gchat video into their phones.....it works so good on my laptop

Skype is available in the "working on Skype" thread.

Just uploaded the Skype app. Once I load it to another phone I'll let you know how it works. In the meantime, I've used both Tango and fring (fring has beta code that works with the tbolt) both have worked but it can get a little sketchy on 3G

I used skype last night to talk to my nephew who also has a thunderbolt. It worked flawlessly. I did however have a crap load of contacts on my list that I didn't even know but after deleting them all it was all good.

Best MSN messenger app...

Anybody got some input on this? I am currently using Hi MSN and it keeps showing me offline to my contacts but it works fine on my end. I have tried MSN droid, ebuddy with no success. They all have some weird issue. So wondering what others are using.

i just use IM.apk. i think it's from the g1, modded to work on other carriers and/or phones. it's not amazing, but it's free and works decently with aim and msn for me (also does yahoo). i got it from xda, can't find the apk on here right now, but here's the one i have http :// goo . gl / Jcuz (can't post links)
I'm using "Messenger" from the Market.. it's like a full rip of Windows Live Messenger. The UI is rather clunky and clumsy, but the functionality is all there. Do get random drop outs though.
Sometimes it's an error on Microsoft's server side that's causing you to appear offline to others. I even have this problem come up on my computer's Windows Live Messenger.
Usually you just wait a day and log in again and your problem is gone.
As for IM app, I'm using Ebuddy. No problems so far.

I'm not using it anymore sorry. And I tried looking for the apk myself and couldn't find it in my phone. Looks like they took it off market cos it probably infringed copyrights (a lot of the graphics of the app were ripped straight from the Windows Live Messenger app on pc)
EDIT: in saying so, I'm back to eBuddy. Also, give MSN Talk a try.
I use Nimbuzz. Works fine for my MSN and Facebook chat
I highly suggest you try out Meebo, if you create an account it runs many clients at the same time (like, Messenger, AIM, Facebook, etc.) and it keeps chat logs.
Msn droid works great for me...
MEEBO is very nice! +1

Is Fring an OK program? Battery power wise??

My dad has the same phone as me and I want to get the most out of it.. So far we both have TIKL (a walkie talkie type of program) and tried QIK before (and hated it)
We just both tried out "FRING" and it seems to be really nice..
I just want to make sure is not going to hurt the battery..
I unchecked everything off in the settings, and only going to use it after my dad and I decide to do a video chat.
I am not looking to use it for friends and people that want to just connect with me anytime..
Im not sure how these programs work though.. I checked running services under applications and its NOT running..
But I hate bad written programs and their seems to be a good handful (like QIK)
THANKS!!
Ok I tested some things out.. I unchecked some stuff off, from the fring settings.. Tried to have my dad contact me while I was off and visa versa, we were not able to contact each other because it said we were both offline.. I hope thats a good thing. I really don't want this thing killing my battery...
There is an option to exit and when I do it seems that it really does exit from the program..
If anyone has more information on this I would love to hear it.. THANKS
To be honest I only use qik for uploading videos. For video chat I use the yahoo messenger app, you can also use that to video chat with people on the pc.

Does yahoo messenger video app work with earphones? Can you use earphones with video calling and use back camera for that?

I use Tango... Really happy with it...

Free video calling apps for Android?

I have tried Tango which is free and seems okay but I wanted to know if there are any other video calling apps? It doesn't matter if voice isn't part of it.
In regards to Tango - is the only necessary thing needed a SIM and internet connection e.g. wifi? I assumed it would use my minutes but after reading the decription I guess it doesn't. Can anyone clarify?
No, it doesn't uses up your minutes. And a sim card is not necessary, because I've seen it work on an iPod touch

[Q] Video Chat

Is there an .apk that works on gTablets for video chat? The camera on my unit does not have much use without the app. Would appreciate the APK and/or hack directions.
There is TANGO, I have it installed on my gtab but have yet to use it because no one on my contacts has video chat capabilities.
Thanks, but...
I need a video chat app that works with PCs as well as mobile devices, Tango only works with mobile phones (right now anyway).
Any othersolutions out there?
Search for "reelportal" in themes forum.
Jim
Yahoo msg app works, with the video add on.
No problem using yahoo with video attachment for me.

Feedback/update
Yahoo Messenger looks promising (I need to sign up the rest of the family in order to have someone to video chat with). But both the application and the video add-on were in my version of Market.
Reelportal's application is a challenge because I cannot download the Adobe AIR 2.5.1; it's not inmy Market and the hyperlink in the posting does not offer an ".apk" file - just all the other OS options.
Also, for those that may be wondering: on yahoo messenger, even though your screen shows you facing sideways on the G-Tab, the other viewer is able to see you facing the correct direction, so don't worry.

Hi,
I was looking for a video chat app awhile ago, and that (sideways video) was what I found with Yahoo Messenger. That was why I suggested reelportal, which multiple folks tried/tested, per that thread in the "Themes" forum.
Jim
Sideways video is fixed if you are using the g-sensor fix. The fix is already part of roms like TNT lite and Vegan.

You can download AIR here:

Hope that helps.
When I use yahoo messenger, it does not recognize incoming calls. When I call another user, they do not see any incoming calls. Anyone else experiencing this?
Tried oovoo and fring, nothing but static.
Yep, Yahoo doesn't always connect and just hangs up. The few times it connected the audio didn't work and just made a bunch of clicking noise. Using TnTLite 4.2.4. I tried Fring and it just locks up. OOVOO can't see the camera and just hangs up even on voice calls. Basically, nothing works so far. Seems to be some kind of audio driver bugs or the apps aren't using it right.

As Jim suggested, perhaps try ReelPortal. Many had it working fine. If I recall correctly, one person was able to video conference between the gTab with 3 other PCs. Here's the thread:

Bingo. Most of them like tango and fringe do not utilize native code correctly making it a nightmare to use.

Odd, I'm using TNT Lite (4.2.1 I think), and I still get the sideways view on Yahoo Messenger. It doesn't bother me any though since, like I said, the viewer sees me the correct way.

[Q] Video Chat Options

I have the Transformer on Android 3.1 and I can not for life of me find anything that uses the webcam for video chat. Google Voice, Qik, Skype none of them either show up in the market or allow video chat...
Are there any apps that work? Why have a front facing cam if you can't video chat?
Thanks for the help!
Another issue you will likely have is the microphone is not sensitive enough for conversations.
Can you give Google Talk another look. I've been doing video chat with my brothers (just one minor issue, the built-in microphone sucks. I hope Google will add a Gain-setting). If the other party has a video capability, Talk will allow you to do video.
I just looked for google talk in the market this morning. It does not show up at all.

Look in your apps folder? It's on Prime.

It's just called Talk. Some people have a hard time finding it because it's not branded with Google before it.
Talk works perfectly for text, voice and video communication. Together with Google+, there's a really awesome way to grab a few friends or co-workers and video conference on the fly.
I use fring and it worked fine

Talk is preinstalled on the TF.
If you search there's a version of Yahoo Messenger floating around that work just fine.
I have use both Talk and Yahoo IM and both work great with the built in mic
So does this work with Google+ Hangout!?
I'd like to be able to use Google+ Hangout on here... that'd be sweet.
