Did I just brick my phone? - HTC Inspire 4G

I was using ROM Manager to try to install the ClearDroid ROM, it did a reboot, and now seems stuck at the HTC screen. I can get into the menu (doing power+volume up), but am not sure what to do at this point.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you can get into recovery your fine. Just restore your nandrod you hopefully made or try using a different rom or re-downloading the one you just tried.
Edit: have you flashed a recovery yet?

Remove the battery, reinsert it and then try volume down + power

Thank you for the quick response, to be honest I'm nervous as heck that I'm going to further jack something.
Do I need to copy a ROM onto the SDCARD, and rename it to the PDxxxx.zip?
Something new, and potentially concerning.
When I try to go into recovery, I'm now getting 3 "vibrates", following by blinking orange light.

If you can get to hboot. use the volume button to go down to recovery and press the power button. Once you're in recovery, wipe data/factory reset, clear cache, go to advanced, clear dalvik, install from zip from sd card, pick the zip from the sd card, it will flash. If you get stuck again redownload the rom and try again.

How long does it take to get into recover? I got into HBOOT, selected recover, power, it reset, presented the HTC screen, faded to black, and seems to be sitting there.

You used bubbys one click one second I will link you to my thread.

Sorry... Helps when I have a lot of these helpful threads bookmarked. LOL

I've got the PD98IMG.ZIP in the root of an SD card (not one that came with phone), and when I go into HBOOT, it cannot find. I did note that the PD98 from above is 222k, is taht correct? Want to make sure I didn't have something go weird with my DL.

Yes that is the size of the file, when you boot into hboot i will look for the file and on the third time it will find it and start flashing it. Did you place it in a folder, or unpack it?

I figured it would load on the third one, it is on the root, compressed. It's a Blackberry 2G card, that did have a directory in it. I went ahead and formatted the card, and am going to give it another go.

Still no go, it will not recognize that image.

Try a different sd card. Got a few more options after that.

OK< got that fixed, turns out I had formatted it FAT, not FAT32. It parsed the file.
Now what?

Now you should be able to flash a rom like I said earlier through recovery .

Alrighty, I got the HTC and then the black screen. I'll let it think for a while before panicking.

Well, looks like I'm ready to start panicking. It's stuck on the HTC screen.
EDIT * It just dumped me back into HBOOT.
WTH?

Probably. Not. Take a deep breath

CWM blackscreen? Look here before posting!

So you are looking at this because you have recently rooted your phone. You are probably trying to flash your first rom and either, you booted into recovery and it was a black screen, or your tried flashing a rom from rom manager and it goes to a black screen.
Now most dev's have a faq posted to eliminate new posts popping up every day, but here I will attempt to tell you how to fix this.
FIRST MAKE A BACKUP the screen will go black when it is backing up, but wait 10-15 minutes and your phone will reboot.
Currently there are three options. There are other options, but these are more user friendly.
Option 1
1. Place This(thanks to nsnc) file on the root of your sd card, boot into hboot by turning off fast boot, restart, hold power+vol down.
Click to collapse
Option 2 (longer then option 3):
1. You can return your phone completely to stock removing root and s-off. You can find a very helpful link to do that here.
2. Once your phone has been completely returned to stock, download the Hack Kit(thanks to attn1). Make sure you follow the instructions completely, and to a tee.
Click to collapse
Option 3:
1. You are going to need to eng s-off the phone using the one click eng s-off Here(thanks to jkoljo).
2. Once you eng s-off and have a working cwm it is highly recommended you turn eng s-off, on. So that you only have radio s-off. You can do that by using this PD98IMG. Download and place on the root of your sd card. You will need to boot into hboot using power+volume down. When it asks you to update select yes with the volume buttons. (note this is just like flashing a new rom so it will do a full wipe)
Once you have radio s-off you may have to flash an older CWM recovery, but you can now restore your backup if you wish to.

Currently these are the known ways to fix this problem. If more ways should arise they will be added to this post.
Please be sure to READ the dev's FAQ section as well.

I am not responsible for anything that may happen to your phone this post is solely to help those in need in the easiest way possible.
Hope this helps.
What about this one?

I considered using that, but I wanted to make the process more user friendly.
did you see the update at the bottom of the first post? I put that PD98IMG.zip on the root of my sd and then went to hboot and let it find the file. Worked great.

The only thing I ask is that you post the post where you found it/ and or the person who made it.
Am I to understand all we have to do is put this PD98img.zip file on the SD Card (after renaming it) and it will clear up the CWM problem we are having without doing Eng-S-off? This seems pretty easy, but I am curious about what ROM it is when we reflash, is it the Stock AT&T?

This is not a ROM file, just a repaired bootloader that installs using hboot. AFAIK, it leaves whatever ROM you are using intact. In fact, on my phone, it didn't change a thing, other than clockwork now works...
See my post above. NSNC posted this fix a while back. The PD98IMG is in the update of the OP

Sure: My phone has been rooted, I entered CWM, downloaded Cyanogenmod and attempted to flash it. I followed the prompts, backed everything up, and when installation (I guess you call it that?) began it went to a black screen.
It is still in that screen, I just tried holding down the power but nothing occurred.

It might of failed to flash, I would pull the battery, place the PD98IMG from the first post from option number one place it on your sd card (not in a file and do not unpack) boot into hboot using power and volume down, It will flash the file from hboot, once it has flashed remove the PD98IMG from your sd card, boot into hboot again go to recovery from hboot. See if that works.

MudKnot is right. I did the first option and it worked great
I had this problem too, and I found that if you take the battery out and wait maybe a minute to put it in while connected to your PC via USB, your Inspire will turn on by itself and be in Clockworkmod Recovery. The version I had at the time was 3.0.0.6, and I was able to install Android Revolution 4.0 beta v4 with no problems.
Hope this helps if you're still looking.

Well, you could use Rom Manager to do whatever it is you need to do in recovery. In other words, want to install a rom? Chose that function through Rom Manager. RM will automatically ask if you want to backup your existing rom and wipe data and cache.

Is my Thunderbolt bricked?

Hey, everyone. How's it going? I have been running Gingervitis 1.1 (?) and last night I went to uninstall an app that I had installed from the market. My phone froze up and is worthless at the moment. I can boot up, but I cant do anything. I see my wallpaper and the taskbar (even it is a little off), but that is it. If I hold power and volume down while booting it goes to the menu, but it automatically chooses to update the radio. I can't choose to do anything else. Wtf? Can I fix this?
Also, the phone will ring, but I can't do anything about that either.
I appreciate any help.
Hmm not sure I can be much help but you could try and get into recovery from there, rename a file say maybe a Rom to PG05IMG so when in hboot it tries to load it? hey just trying to help here and not sure it gonna work but could try a couple more ideas until someone smarter pops in. Sure your not bricked though.
If you can get into hboot you're not bricked. It sounds like you have a PG5... file still on your sd card. Take it out of the phone and load into your computer to delete that file. Put the card back in and you should now be able to select recovery in the hboot menu.

last i checked, a brick just sat there. so if your phone does more than set there, no it's not. it can probably be fixed. good luck.
power down your phone, take out your sd card and insert it into a computer. delete the pg#### file from the root of your sdcard. insert card in to phone, power back up.
try taking out your SD card and connecting it to computer, rename the PG05img to something else. then you should be able to hboot and get into recovery
Awesome. I'll go buy a card reader and see what I can do. I will post back in a bit.

One more "Oh noooo... Wait really? WHEW!!!! It's not bricked afterall." save on XDA.
They saved me once too. Glad you're up and running. Patience is key and so many people around here seem to be so quick to send the phone back, blame the developer and post how the rom bricked their phone, then start a thread about "Rumor Verizon is tracing all phones that spontaneously combusted to rooting. Am I getting Busted?"
Again, nice job on the save

That will bring you into Recovery mode. now wipe data/factory reset... then wipe cache partition.. then go to advanced and wipe Dalvik Cache... go back to mounts and storage and format system...
after all that then go back to install zipfrom sdcard and reinstall miui that should do it
Im not going anywhere so I'll be here, let me know how you do
Ouch. That sucks. Don't worry though, there is hope.
What you will have to do is remove your SD card and download a stock RUU and it will flash in Bootloader. Unfortunately I believe it will unroot you. I am not positive on that though. I will post a link so you can be reading a little more about it, we helped a guy thru this the.other day, but he wasn't rooted. Should be the same process though. You'll want to wait until we know exactly what to do because this is your one shot before you got a fancy paperweight. I have to run to atnt for a minute. Start reading so you'll know a little more of what is going to go on, and hang tight. Someone else may step in before I'm back, but you can start familiarizing yourself with the process shortly.
This fellow was pricked during an OTA update. About the same steps will be taken...

you have a micro sd card reader on your computer ?
Here's a link to gb stock rooted. Look at post 4. Credit goes to gene for the file.
To flash you will need a way to transfer files to your SD card.
Download the file and rename to PD98IMG.zip. boot into hboot it will scan and ask you to apply the update.
If you can't transfer files try the ruu exe. Version you downloaded.

umm...maybe you should have known that a rom is not an update...it is a new rom. Also, if you read the instructions to flash in the rom thread you will find that all roms need a full wipe when coming from a different one....
PLEASE, A BRICK DEVICE IS JUST THAT.....A BRICK......yours is messed for not doing things properly..
If you look in search like you said you are aware of it. You would have came across same threads about this so called brick phone and it has to do with the pd98img file in the majority of this issue but nope guess not..
Or even like the other member said wipe cache delvik user data etc..

If you can still get into bootloader (by holding down the volume down and power button while the phone is off) then you can possibly save your phone. You'll need to find a Stock RUU image of the Inspire 4G's rom. It will be a PD98IMG.zip file. Place that on your sdcard. Don't extract it just copy and paste. Then open bootloader. Press the power button to select hboot. Then let it run its course.
I'm pretty sure this can fix your issue. If someone wants to intervene then by all means go ahead.

Try again installing the ROM.
If core-droid is in boot loop and not letting you go to recovery.Just take the battery off.Re-insert the battery and open directly into the recovery panel through volume down and power button.
Full wipe and reinstall CM7 STABLE.
That boot-loop happened to me also. I did that and it solved the problem.
If you're going to flash a different rom into your phone, always make a Full Wipe. This practically will remove any single data that is store in the phone. There's a few full wipe scripts that you can use, search in the threat and you will find it!!
Also, something to help you: Go into recovery, make a full wipe (factory reset) and then install a new rom that is totally stable, hopefully you will be ready to go.
