OKAY. SO I HAVE TO SAY;
After flashing my ROM so many times and having my G1 get "stuck" the the boot up G1 screen... you could say this would make someone frustrated. Even make you think your phone is "bricked"? Right? Wrong! It's not.
I have two ways to get OFF this screen & have your phone running again.
THIS IS FOR ROOT USERS WHO HAVE FLASHED AND ARE STUCK AFTER AN UPGRADE.
1. Take your SD card out and put it into an SD Adapter/USB into your computer and open the drive and drag your update file for whatever ROM you want onto the drive .
2. Eject the drive; and don't forget to Safely remove it.
3. Put the SD card back in your G1 phone, and reboot the phone with Call+MENU+Power button and then immediately hold the HOME and BACK button to go into recovery mode.
4. Once in recovery, wipe data and then add the update.zip file
Let it do its thing and when its done, hold Home + Back to reboot.
IF your T-mobile G1 boots back up, Congrats! Your new ROM is working now.
If you are still getting stuck at the T-mobile G1 start up screen, take your SD card back out, re-do the steps I provided, but START ALL OVER FROM SCRATCH! This means, Put your Original RC33 (or RC29) DREAMIG.nbh file on the sd card, wipe, flash the recovery image (use the telnetd and terminal emulator steps - you can find them on youtube here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgJ2VtSqtJY ) and then proceed to let your phone boot up. Once everything is loaded up and you sign back in and everything syncs back up, You will be downgraded now, so you will have to flash the newest Radio and SPL onto your phone (as if you just freshly rooted your phone, because you did!) and then after you have done that; then you can wipe & flash/upgrade your ROM to whichever you prefer and also don't forget the fat32, ext2/ext3, linux-swap partition of your sdcard. This guy gives a great tutorial on how to do that! http://www.youtube.com/user/EmoGamer#play/uploads/4/0ve8pUk9dC4
ENJOY FELLOW ANDROIDIANS!
I hope I could help some of you.
If your phone is STILL stuck on the G1 loading screen, you have done something wrong. Try again. IF all else fails, Your phone is majorly Bricked and I don't know any other way to help you. These are the only two ways I know of - they have worked for me over & over; because I'm always testing out everybodys newest ROM.
This isn't any new information. There's an entire thread dedicated to bricked G1s and distinguishing whether or not they're actually bricked.

I second that.
If you can get into recovery... phone is not bricked. "BRICK" happens when you can't get into recovery NOR fastboot in the SPL.
WRONG.
If either of those steps worked that means your phone wasn't even bricked in the first place.
Garbage thread.
This is hilarious....
I was running a hero ROM on my device, and wanted to try an Eclair ROM. I wanted to flash it but in the process I saw something like: E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command on the screen. I went ahead and performed a wipe because I read it was harmless. But then the installation was aborted because the file update.zip couldn't be found (even though it was on my phone). So I went ahead and rebooted my device. Now it always gets stuck at the little green android, then he disappears and I get a black screen. The device remains on however and I need to pull out the battery for it to turn off... COULD ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME
After doing all you did your device should boot normally. Obviously it didn't. I don't know what went wrong, but if you boot into recovery you should be able to flash a ROM.
Just make sure you have the right recovery and right ROM files.
I only have that Eclair rom on my device (which can't be flashed).
My PC won't read the SD card anymore so I can't put any rom on it...

Your not bricked... you basically just failed the update process then wiped your current installed rom with the Wipe. Now you rebooted the phone but there's no rom to load. You now see only the boot starting up and hitting the wall with no rom to load.
That makes sense.. How can I fix this issue?
thank you
Would help if you could give us some info on your phone.
Can you enter recovery or fastboot again ?
phone model, spl & radio version ?
this is why Iphones were invented.... For people who cant understand simple directions or even read for that matter.
What recovery do you have? Get another rom, go into recovery, hit the USB toggle switch and put anothe rrom on. It doesnt have to be named update.zip...
Nevermind.. Doesnt matter what I type here you'll go an do what you want anyway.
I have the htc Magic
How do I get to see my radio and spl?
Yes, I can enter recovery mode.
thank you
I can enter fastboot!
RADIO: 3.22.20.17
SPL 1.33.2005
btw it's a 32A
Where is this USB toggle switch??
Android system recovery utility
Use trackball to highlight:
click to select.
reboot system now [Home+Back]
apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]
wipe data/factory reset [Alt+W]
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
That's all I see.
Only the latest recovery has the Usb option in it.

+1 to that.
You wipe your phone, couldn't boot it and you did not know the reason for this. You wiped your ROM, there's nothing to load up when you boot it. It's so simple.

Wow, just wow. If you need spoonfeed after spoonfeed, How in the world did you root your phone in the first place? You run into problems at EVERY step. Honestly, get the iphone (It's not that badddddd of a phone! Just agreeing with what crypt said!) or don't root your phone. You fail to even look for instructions. I don't understand how your PC can't read your SD card? That probably means it's dead (Which means you need a new one) OR the thought of taking it out and plugging it into an sd adapter never occured to you. I bet you even wiped your SD card somehow.
How come you can't put the recovery on your SD card? Or the rom or anything else

And why was the ROM (update.zip) on your phone and not your sd card? I believe that you fail fail fail to look at any instructions the awesome people have posted here. If you fail to follow instructions given on these forums, how will you follow instructions given from members trying to help you? I find it useless to bother helping any further.
I don't have an sd card adapter and since my phone won't start up, my pc won't recognize my device anymore. Take it easy btw, I'm only looking for help
If help is what you're looking for, then go look around under these forums. I suggest you go and buy an adapter as well, it'd help a lot. May even be your only choice. (I believe there's another way but I'm not going to bother with that as it may be too complicated for you. I dont' think it'd work either with your recovery)
I don't mean to be an ass but when questions like this are posted, I hope you understand. It's as bad as asking how to turn your phone on vibrate. The manual is with your phone and everything, take a look or get some common sense and try the volume buttons.
The forum is your manual. You wiped your ROM, well if you think about it, of course it wont boot up all the way. It has nothing to load. Can't put stuff on your sd card? Get an adapter. It's simple.

I thought people would think right away that they would need an sd adapter to somehow get it onto their computer once they have no other choice lol.
okay that's clear, thank u for your time
For now I don't have an sd adapter, so I stuck the sd card in my brother's phone and tried to put the necessary files but now it seems I have to format the sd card.. Is this harmful or should I just go ahead?
I have the latest recovery but I get a popup message on my PC saying I should format the SD card. Will I still have the 'data' file where I need to put the recovery file under?

what ever you have on it will be erased.
You can also use fastboot to flash the recovery without having to import it into the sdcard. I would not recommend it to you do since lack the basic android knowledge. (all the command are listed in the thread i posted earlier)
If I format the SD card, where should I put the recovery.img if there is no /data anymore? (using the reboot method)
I am trying to install Gingervolt on my Lg Revolution and i installed clockworkmod and revotoolkit on my phone but clockworkmod doesnt say my phone? and when i try to install recovery on revotoolkit it says it installs but when i reboot my phone the only thing i ever get is after the Verizon splash screen and after that it just goes to a black screen and i have to take my battery out. i cant get it into recovery mode even when i do it manually. please if anyone knows anything please let me know i've been stuck for about a week.
any luck on this? seems to be the same thing i'm encountering
I'm having a similar issue. I used the LGrevolution all in one package to root my phone. This root package is supposed to also install CWM.
The root package says that it complete successfully and restarts my phone, however only the superuser app is available and no CWM. When I DL CWM on my own it doesn't list my phone when I go to install flash recovery.
I have no clue where to go from here. please advise.
I know I would have a better chance of getting an answer to this if I had access to the forums for my phone. Instead they throw all of us non-regular users into the "we never look here" channel until we make 10 posts. lol
Flashing GingerVolt
I am currently rooted on the LG Revolution, I was wanting to try GingerVolt V1.3 on my phone i understand that you have to download MT's the only question that i have is how do i save the .zip file to my external SD card?
I can get to CWM recovery just fine and back up my current ROM and wipe all current data (Have done it once) but when i go to update from SD there are no files found. What am i doing wrong?
Thank You in advance for any help
idk if this will help but?
you are all correct out phone is not listed this not being fully open for the lg revo but if i remember correctly I just selected the first device on the list it is kinda has a Ect. ect. ect after so that ppl with all other phones can use it too the first one is like the universal if yours isnt on the list? it worked for me now I cant remember what I did and i am sort of a noob at the whole rooting thing but after i did this reboot in to recovery didnt show on the pop up window when i held down the power button so i had to restart i think a few times maybe power off all the way or something you wont hurt it so i say try till it works if you are rooted you wont screw anything up? i havent in a yr of having the phone and i dont really know what im doing still half the time?
LG Revo stuck on CWM-based Recover v5.0.2.7
I was trying to install Gingervolt 2.0 and thought I followed all steps to complete the task but now it's stuck on the CWM menu and I cannot do anything else. I tried formatting and starting over but now it's just stuck on the CWM main menu. Help please! n00b will be a n00b! Won't let me mount external sd card in order to copy Gingervolt 2.0.zip to phone to re-install. I'm pretty sure this is bricking? I have no idea. Thought I read enough to root but missed a step in the process.
UPDATE: Was able to install Gingervolt 2.0 by MTMichaelson, installs files, Writes symlinks and permissions, Replaces kernel, Formats cache and dalvik, unmounts, done.
After that I am stuck on what to do. Please help! Any would be much appreciated!
I just installed the Android Revolution HD 6.5.2. On the first boot, it's been stuck on the "HTC quietly brilliant" screen for like 15minutes. Did I do something wrong during the install? How do I fix this? Prior to the install, I used superwipe, flashed my phone then installed the Android Revolution HD 6.5.2.
Did you install the right firmware before flashing rom?

I may or may not have. Could you care to elaborate about the correct firmware? Thanks, it would help a lot. Kinda crapping my pants right now :/

"It's necessary to flash new firmware package before flashing this ROM ---
--- Firmware package contains newest radio for 6.5.x ROMs ---"
Need to know what is your cid in order to install the new firmware but it should be this one
Download firmaware and put on sd card. Then reboot into bootloader while pressing vol down + power button. It will install the right firmware. Be patient untill the entire process is finished and prompted to reboot.
The screen may goes black a couple of times before the process is completed, no panic and just wait it to finish.
Later, remember to delete the PG58IMG from sd card.
Hope it helps
That's the exact guide I used to root my htc sensation. The problem is, my phone is stuck on the boot screen "HTC". Is there a way to access the SD card to reverse the installation of the rom? Thanks.

Need a sd card adapter or another phone
Is there anyway to start my phone? Is it bricked?
if you are able to reboot into bootloader you are not bricked.
Pull out the battery and reinsert, power on while pressing Volume down + power button and tell me what happens and what it says.
It boots into 4EXT Recovery. The only zip i have on my phone is superflash and Android_Revolution_HD-Sensation_6.5.2. I tried formatting all the data, and doing a clean install of Android_Revolution_HD-Sensation_6.5.2 but it keeps freezing on the screen that says "HTC quietly brilliant" when i reboot? Is there anyway I can get this working with what I have? Thanks man really appreciate the help.
I told you. Download the right firmware and put it in sd card, then reboot into bootloader and it will install the new firmware. Read my previous posts
In 4Ext recovery there should be an option like "togle usb" or something like this. If so, you are able to see the content of sd card and you can put the PG58IMG on it from pc
Yeah i hear you, but is there a way to access my root folder? It's not showing up as a removable drive. I dl'd the PG58IMG.zip, but I can't drag it into the folder, because when I plug my usb into my computer, it's not reading my phone as a removable drive = /
probably you dont have the htc driver installed. Download from Here
I downloaded the htc driver prior to rooting my phone. What are my options now?
So, your pc dont see your phone right?
In this case you need a sd card adapter and work from there.
Clearly you didn't install the firmware before flashing the rom. If you look at my previous posts I gave all the instructions.
Find a way to read your sd card from pc (adapter?) then put the firmware (PG58IMG) in the root of sd card and reboot into bootloader to install the firmware.
Later, remember to delete PG58IMG when you are done.
Then, all should work fine.
Good luck!
PS. hitting thanks button wouldn't hurt me by the way!

Yeah im new to the forum, ill definitely hit the thank button. I looked in the 4EXT Recovery program and I found there's an option called "USB mass storage device". Now I can drop the file into the SD card. Before I install the PG58IMG.zip, should I run superwipe first since I installed the Android_Revolution_HD-Sensation_6.5.2? Thanks

Yes better superwipe again even if you did before. Let's say start from the beginning just to be on the safe side
1) install firmware
2) superwipe
3) install rom
Hmm weird problem. I tried installing the PG58IMG.zip and it says ..
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
Any clues?

You dont have to install PG58IMG from recovery.
Just off the phone (pull the battery out and reinsert). Power up by pressing volume down + power button (keep it pressed until hboot screen appears). The PG58IMG is automatically recognized by device and you will be prompted to update. Say yes by pressing volume up. Then be patient and wait for the entire process is completed as I told few post ago.
Sorry I forgot I had to install it in bootloader xD god, I hate roms! I wish I got into phone modifying long time ago. Im such a noob it's so sad
When you are done, remember that first boot takes a while so be patient and just wait
This is my first thread that i ever needed to start on anything on phones so please understand that i'm REALLY DESPERATE i have looked in a ton of places for this fix and i tried to use clockworkmod and ended up doing that correctly but when i tried to restore it it say i dont have any backups nor recovery files and i tried putting cynagenmod on my sd card but it couldnt find the file and then i tried to use NFFLASH and make it stock android again but nothing happened and ended up stuck on the blue logo screen again. please i dont know what to do
Which version of Cyanogenmod is it? Put it on the root of your SD card. Is it already on the internal storage? I believe when you click "install from .zip" or something of the equivalent there's an option to select "choose from internal storage".
You can boot back into clockwork mod by turning the phone off, holding down the power and volume down buttons until the lg logo with the BLUE background appears, then release.
I was trying to install cynagen mod 7.01 from Rom manager but it froze in the logo screen and so i took out the battery and put it back on and it still continued to do that. After that i used CWM but i didnt have any ROMS to restore it and before it didnt correctly make my backup so i just want to restore it like the way it used to but i dont know where to put it in my sd card

Your sentence is incredibly long. Gave up after the desperate grab for attention. You may have wiped your backups by mistake. It happens. I did it not once, but twice. Give us more info so we can help. ROM, kernel, etc. A list of apps you run on a daily basis would be helpful.

Never use rom manager to install on this phone, you'll continue to run into this problem.
Can you access your phone storage when it's plugged into your computer? If you can, drop CM onto it at the root directory, put it back into your phone, boot into CWM and install the zip.
i think my rom was stock rom 2.3.4 before i tried flashing cynagenmod the apps arent very important to me and i only had this phone for a week because i got too excited about the dual core.
Follow the instructions HERE to the letter. You'll go back to stock and you'll have to root your phone again (if that's what you want to do) but it should get you up and running again.
In future, search, search, and search some more. I assure you, most problems people have had have been discussed and probably solved on these forums.
Welcome to XDA!
What is the name for this process of trying to restore my device from blue logo screen? If i know the name of the issue im trying to fix maybe i can start searching for the guides. I can't really access my internal or sd card when i plug in my usb and i don't really understand what the problem i ran into if its even fixable or not. The link you've sent me for the guide i'm trying right now but i can't just sit here and wait for an hour. Feedback is really appreciated

The whole process (if done correctly) should take but about 15 minutes give or take. What you'll be doing is Flashing Stock Recovery. Download the file provided in the link I gave, and then follow each instruction exactly as it says. Shouldn't be a need to Google any guides as this spell it out for you. Just have read and execute.
If you used NvFlash/One Click Recovery to flash Clockwork Mod to your device then you should already have the APX driver installed on your computer. In that case, half of the battle is already done.
But, if you installed your recovery using Rom Manager, then I would download the APX driver and go through the whole process in the guide I've linked from start to finish.
