Hi to all, installed the XXKB3 European firmware a few days back,
Improvements:

2. Camera video mode exposure problem solved.
3. Crash when uninstalling some applications solved.
4. Service mode can now be accessible using *#*#197328640#*#*
4.1 Audio quality of both the speakers and headphone can be improved.
5. New software route66 maps 5 added.
6. Low memory consumption.
7. GPS settings can be tweaked using *#*#3214789650#*#*
Sync in contacts now have the option to sync contacts ,calender etc separately.[I dunno whether its there in DDKB2 firmware]
Here are some screenshots,

Thanks Bala,
for the review quite tempting for me to now update to DDKB3. I wonder why Indian users are being denied these features in official update.

is this a free app for India users or paid, does it provide India based navigation turn by turn including voice?

There are loads of audio settings there to play with, there is also a setting called "diamond solution" for audio. Dunno what it is for...
I didnt test that route 66 completely yet, once i find it out ill post here

thanks will wait for you to update this thread, if possible please post the screen shot of additional features.

Nice feedback

Good dude!
Keep posting about ur feature+. Its tempting u know..

I really love this route 66 aplication,It gives inch by inch navigation, even a slight movement in the direction is shown. One downside is its asking to get a license for voice based navigation.

I guessed so it to be a paid app of some sort which samsung is trying to push.

@ bala, is it offline navigation application with built in maps for india??? Then quite surprising, bcoz the ROM is meant for Europe.
@SGS,
You mean Samsung pushing Route 66 for purchase in EU countries not in india.

since the service modes available now try this

marked improvement for me.

Service modes are available to me & you both on kb1 & kb2, they are just hidden.

yes i tweeted supercurio he said the sl doesnt carry a famed wolfson dac as the galaxy s.but my theory is this somehow manages to gets rid of the ****ty samsung eq values that take much of the quality of the audio(refer to my posted thread).so i guess the tweak helps a bit.try n see if you find something different............no harm in trying.rebooting your phone will revert this tweak back to its default values.so no hassles in going back to default settings

Supercurio only told me that we don't have Wolfson (then who's son we have as audio ) DAC but he also told me that something can be done with alsa_mixer
Is there some config file that can be created and placed in init.d so that settings stay after reboot ?
Time to read kernel sources

I flashed this firmware last evening and I found the battery consumption to be faster when 3G is on compared to the DDKB2. I was merely using Gtalk and Tweetdeck. Disabled all other things still the battery died faster. Will check more today and tomorrow to confirm this.

Think I'll leave updating my phone until JF's picked it apart, though
Haha no problem! I've been searching about for a while trying to find evidence of the new update so thought I'd be useful now I've actually got it
To be honest, apart from support for paid apps in the Market, I can't really see many differences...
Excellent, good to see someone caught it early. I'll hang fire for now until someones give it a good once over.
I haven't heard much about it but I hope the radio update it includes is the same one that seems to increase battery life in RC33. Can say I'd enjoy that.

I have latitude and https is working fine.
Maybe because I made a "fresh install":
jf1.41 -> rc8 (dreaimg.nbh) -> rc9
hmmm, I may try a wipe and install....see what happens.
Surely we shouldn't have to go through that process to get new features from an update...?
I wouldn't have thought so...but you never know!

[APP] SayMyName Dessert

Hello,
At the moment I'm working on a new version of SayMyName Dessert. It's my first app (but it's already on the Android Market for more than a year ) and I just can't stop developing it. Mostly, I blame my users for that. You send me feature-requests, bug-reports, good feedback, bad feedback... even donations!
Currently there are two versions of SayMyName available at the Android Market. One for Cupcakes, and one for Donuts and beyond.
With the upcoming version of SayMyName, I want to merge those versions, fix old, very annoying bugs and add some often requested features.
Why I'm telling you that? Because I need even more feedback, more testers, more contributers D) and some guys who translate my app into various languages.
So, if you want to help me, please download the attached .apk and give me some feedback / requests / whatever comes to your mind. Just leave a reply here at xda or send me a mail. (tomtasche AT gmail)
Thank you very much
Tom
P.S.: If you want to try the old, buggy version of SayMyName, feel free to search the Android Market for "SayMyName Dessert".
edit:
I forgot to mention what this app is for.
Official market-description:
"Want to know who's calling you without looking at your phone? SayMyName reads out loud the name saved in your adressbook and tells you who's calling.
- reads SMS, GMail and K9-Mail too
- very customizable
- discreet mode
- Locale Plug-in
- open-source
- supports non-latin languages too
See website for changelog, etc."
edit:
Changelog:
- reads nicknames!
- fixes, fixes, fixes.
- much more
- mute gestures
- read number-/mail-type (custom labels supported too!)
- auto translate messages (enable "translate")
- improved widget
- fixes
- pause music during speech on phones with Android 2.2
- sk, cs and de translations by David K. (thanks! )
- supports people who can't find TTS Extended in Android Market / don't have access to Android Market
Planned features in near future:
- more translations (any volunteers?)
- bluetooth (maybe I found somebody who can help me! )
edit:
If you want to help translate, download this file and translate the text between the tags:
Code:
<string name="...">TRANSLATE THIS</string>
Return the translated file to me afterwards.
Thank you very much
Tom
PS: Please let me know if you want me to mention your name / mail-address / website.

Thanks! Tell me if you miss something.
I just tried the app for SMS notifications, but it gets interrupted by the notification. I'd like the notification to come first, followed by the announce and then the message. As it is now half the announcement gets killed by the notification.
I tried setting both Reading break and speech delay to 5 (seconds?), but the announcement started immediately anyway.
The app also seems to open a TTS-channel on start, causing noticeable hiss for a couple of seconds.
And the locale-plug-in, is it a separate download? Couldn't see it in Tasker even if I force-stopped it.
Your app seems to perform all the functions I want from TTS-notifications, now I only have to wait for the engine to not sound like a broken record in my language.

Unfortunately I'm not responsible for the voice. It comes from Android, but the AT&T sample is very impressive!

By the way, you can change the voice in "Speech settings" (linked in SayMyName). Change the "Engine" to "Pico TTS" and you'll get a female voice.

Excellent.
A slightly more convoluted feature request: Do you think it would be possible to change the TTS-language based on which contact a text message comes from? Say for instance if the contacts had TTS=en_US or TTS=sv_SE or any other preferred language in the notes-section?
The reason for this request is of course that I receive messages in different languages depending on the contact, so if I just decide on a language half the time it'll sound even worse than necessary.

[App][1.6+] Whistle App, Trigger your phone with whistle - Testers wanted

Hi all, I've published my first app and would like your advices, it's called Whistle App listens for a whistle and responses with user defined image presentation and sound playing.

same thinking here. But i've tried the unlock permission is allowed to unlock and bring to this app only. If the app is waken by a whistle, after the user quit this app, he still need to unlock the screen by his finger. It may have a proper way to unlock the screen by an activity, i hope.

[APP]Smart Stay Ex

Hi guys I found this app was up for beta testing here at XDA developed by elnoxvie, its similar to Smart Stay & works on GB ROMs too. I'm posting it here so that if any there are any compatibility problems with our handset it could be ironed out by the developer.
- Go to the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1708012
- Get the latest beta & test it on your R.
- Report on the same thread your observations & problems you faced.
- Beta testers will get a discount.
The app is out of Beta & is available at the Play store. I have done beta testing for the app with my stock GB ROM, it was working fine & Galaxy R has been granted support. But it may not work on some custom ROMs.
Here are links:
1. SmartStay Ex Lite
2. SmartStay Ex Pro
Cheers!

You'll have to report yourself cause he may try to understand your problem & ask you submit logs which only you can do.
So I'll request everyone to post your observations after testing it in the original thread as it'll help the developer in making it fully compatible with our device.
Ehhh !! i installed this app, but how do i know whether this is working or not, i can only hear camera clicks !!
I've installed it for some minutes. I think that you need to restart the phone after installing the app, but, first, enable the boot option inside it.
I suppose that those clicks are real photos been taking by the phone, I also hear it... just a bug. The app is trying to analyze the face and it's searching for the eyes.
If you want to try it, set the display timeout to 15s (in phone's settings), turn on your room's light and put the mobile to a reasonable distance from your face, you'll see that it doesn't switch off the screen, after this, just leave it far from you and, if everything is ok, it should go to sleep in some seconds.
The software need to mature a lot, it consumes tons of CPU time and, eventually, it starts to eat all the ram and CPU, leaving your phone in a semi-freezed mode, I was able to restart it but took some time.
Besides that, it did its function, it kept the display on while I was watching at it, and afterwards it put it to sleep.

By sending a log you are sending some sensitive information to this app's developer. I think this is how it's done though I'm not 100% sure:
- First download & install the new v1.4 of the app.
- Now start /open the app, after clicking on 'OK' lock your device once by pressing the lock key.
- Now click on 'Send Logs' in the app. It'll ask you to download & install a log collector app so install it & open it.
- Next Tick 'Debug' and go through the process of running the app when you are facing the front Cam with some distance between you & your front Cam so as to let it try to detect your face. Now let it run once when you do not face the front Cam.
- Next Click on Send logs once again then click on OK.
- It'll then allow you to Email the log to this app's developer.
- If the app works then don't send the logs.
Hope this helps. Cheers !
App is out of Beta & it's available for download at the Play store. Check OP for the links & more info.
Cheers !

It does work in landscape mode AFAIR but it's hard to keep your face in the field of view of the front camera in the landscape mode.
Yep you are right about others except the lagging part but that can vary from person to person.
The app is working, however, the shutter sound is very annoying. Just imagine when you fall asleep and suddenly hear that noise.

There's an option to turn off the shutter sound but it's a temporary fix as it switches the handset into 'Silent' mode for the duration of the shutter sound which affects others functions of the handset as well.

Hi.
Does the hotword "Google" work for you in the newest stock OTA for Google Now? For me it does not... Is there a way to enable it?

It was working on AOSP roms but not on OTA so probably CM10 will have everything working.

And you are on stock OTA? (rooted?)
Same issue.
I have OTA Jelly Bean on my Nexus S.
Voice Search works fine with the exception of the hotword.
So when I say "Google" on the Google Now screen nothing happens.

I'm pretty sure this hot word feature was removed due to Apple's lawsuit, too similar in functionality to Siri.
I know you're talking about the OTA update, and I'm running hp420's rom on my NS4G, so there are likely differences, but when you open up Google Now, what does the search bar say? Does it just say "Search" or does it say (as mine does) "Search, or say Google"??
Yeah, I had it in the first 4.1 builds, then once the official 4.1.1's started appearing it was gone. This was after the incident where they had to stop selling Galaxy Nexii for a week. It looks like that feature was dumped to get the injunction lifted.

AHHHH that explains it. Thought I was going crazy.
I'm sure you could flash an older version of Google Now taken from one of the ROMs where it is functional.
Hmm, I thought the lawsuit with Siri is regarding the result of the search, nothing to do with how the search is triggered right? There's no like "siri" hotword or something.
However, I don't really get the purpose of this hotword, as I will still need to unlock the phone and press the Search button anyway, might as well just press the "mic" icon on the top right at the google search "widget"?
That's my best guess on the issue, it makes sense. It appears that this as the only thing that changed for the official 4.1.1 release. Or maybe google deemed it not worthy of the Nexus S, like Face Unlock... Wonder if Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus might still have this feature.
How come when I search our doesn't show up like in the video and directs me to browser searches?
Sent from my Nexus S

To have results like in the video you have to change Google Now language to English US and force searching on google.com (in google now settings).
The hotword is only a "cool" feature, with practically no use (unless it would work globally, not only with the google now screen) but I would like to test it out
