Flash Inspire back to stock - HTC Inspire 4G

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched and couldn't find any good step-by-step instructions...
I rooted my phone successfully using the Hack Kit. I'm actually getting a replacement phone sent to me (the one I had received had all these scratches on it), and would like to get everything completely back to stock and unrooted before I return this phone. Could someone please point me to the right place? Thanks!

look in bubbys one click faq. He tells you how there. First s on. Then run stock ruu. This is straight from the faq.
11.Q: How do I return my Inspire back to factory/stock? A: For warranty purposes, you may need to completely turn your phone back to the way it was when you bought it. This means S-On and non-rooted. To do this you have to two things: Download and run bubby323’stool from here: http:// www.mediafire.com/? 2ttk3b883p7ujbw Download and run the stock RUhere: http://www.filefactory.com/file/ b50b7a1/n/ RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_RadiMake sure you run the S-On tool first, as the tool requires root permissions. Once complete, you should have a phone that is completely stock, just like when you pulled it out of the box for the first time. You WILL lose all of your data that is not backed up.

[Q] Please Help! Important! Unrooting Question

hey guys,
bought my samsung captivate two days ago and i love it. from reading all the posts about how rooting is awesome i finally took the plunge and rooted my phone with the one click root program. followed the directions to the teeth, everything went fine. even went as far as downloading clockwork and backing up my rom.
few hours later, im totally blown that i rooted my phone. i realized i threw away my warranty.
is there ANY way to unroot the phone and make it totally stock and make it seem like the phone was never altered? i read some answers of "yeah" and some answers of "once your rooted, you can't get back" (i remember reading about an article about how some android phones like the nexus one, once you root theres no going back period). the program i used had a unroot button but im not sure if that would wipe everything away to factory settings and erase all traces of the root.
i know im effing stupid for not thinking it threw. but hey, its good that i came to my senses before i loaded up an os.
to be clear, my phone is just rooted. nothing else. im not running cognitive rom or anything. its running the stock samsung 2.1.
so can anyone PLEASE PLEASE help me solve this problem?
im a total noob when it comes to android.
it took me 20 minutes doing that one click from reading the directions over and over again lol.
i need some step by step directions for stupid people
okay, so i followed the directions to unroot. the programs that were installed when i rooted seemed to have disappear. to be extra sure, i reformatted my sd card and than factory restored the phone (from settings/privacy). quick question though, after i pressed "factory reset" my phone rebooted and than for a quick second i saw the same screen i saw when i rooted (the black screen with the yellow font? looked like a system command prompt i guess). it came on for a sec and than disappeared and it booted regularly. did that happen because i did a factory reset or did that happen because im still rooted?
wtf is wrong with me. i just want my unrooted captivate back (and my warranty lol)
odin to stock with master clear.
There's a thread under android development something with "stock rom" that should restore your phone back to factory.
If you did all of that then you are definitely back to stock now & theres no way of detecting your phone was rooted. You could of gotten away with just using one click to unroot. Thats all I did when I returned mine after a week because my gps never worked at all. I dont think they even did anything to check if it was rooted or anything. Hows your gps on the new one by the way? Mines still bad but at least it sees some satellites now. My old one had a hardware problem where gps wouldn't do anything at all.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
When you use odin to flash back to stock does that restore the AT&T bloatware as well? Or should I use TiB when I first get the phone to get the bloatware back on?
Thanks,
JOe K.
After trying to exchange my phone for another phone (thinking the GPS is a hardware issue) I had rooted and flashed a custom rom. I reverted back using ODIN master clear and ODIN 2.1 rom (Which puts bloatware and everything on it) and there's no way to detect it. The only time it will truly void your warranty (I believe) if you go into the store with a custom rom or if you go into the store with a bricked phone and they figure out you were modifying your phone.
thanks for the answers guys! why is it that you cant "unroot" a nexus one? i heard they'll always be able to tell if your rooted once you do it.

[Q] Rooting Inspire Question, Just got the phone.

Greets All,
I am sorry that I have to ask a few questions, only cause I really dont want to mess anything up, I got the phone about a week ago, and I have been reading alot of the different sections about rooting, and I see the different types of ways, and there is good replies and bad replies so I am a bit on the fence. I even got a CWR of this: att-inspire-rooted-signed.zip but I cant for the life of me find where I got it from. But let me ask the questions:
1) I want to keep the phone completely as is, I dont want to install another rom or anything right now, all I want to be able to do, is, remove the att software, and root the phone so that I can install the apk's I have on my sdcard. Do I have to go thru the whole hack kit or one click root and all that? Or is there a simple root and stay with the stock rom?
2) The file I mentioned: att-inspire-rooted-signed.zip I renamed it to update.zip, and then went into the bootloader, then recovery, obviously I got the phone with the red triangle thing, but hitting the up volume and the power button give me a CWR menu, and one of them is to install update from sdcard, but when I choose that zip it says about e:\cant open command folder blah, and then when I click update it says invalid operation. is that cause the phone isnt rooted?
3) If I have to root the phone, then which one will root it, but leabe everything intact if any? I dont want to change my radio, or the rom.
I am sorry if I am asking too much, but the rom has no sim at the moment and just playing with it everything works beautifully, even the gps works instantly because its properly using agps.
Thanks for the answers.

If you want to remove the ATT bloatware you will have to root. You don't have to root to sideload. Just download the sideload wonder machine found in the dev section. As for rooting id suggest using the hack kit. Ive rooted 4 phones with it. First use the simple gold card maker. Then download the hack kit and follow the instructions in the read me file. Att1 has made it pretty simple. Then flash cleardroid stock rooted rom. All the bloatware is already removed. Its really stable. Good luck.

I'm glad you asked this question because I want to do the same thing I want to keep my phone stock and just root so I to can delete ATT crap and to edit my build.prop file because ATT pissed me off today telling me my speeds are slower than my friends 3gs because his has more storage space. Wtf. We ran speedtest app on both Phones to the same server and every single time his ran double or more on download speeds. ATT told me its the device doing it. IPhone fan boys is all I can say.
Anyway is there a easy way. I rooted my old aria with the unrevoked root. Super easy. Does the inspire have a easy way.

No true one click. I find the hack kit to be the best for me.

I used bubby's one click method. Very simple, and there is a youtube video of it as well. Watch the entire video first so you have an idea of whats going on then go through the video while rooting. (not, downplaying the hack kit, i have never tried it) And for what its worth i too wanted a stock rom and chose Two pump chumps rom (Its a stock inspire rom -bloatware and improved a bit) and lee droids kernel, which gives a slight sound boost and smooths things a bit more imho. Good luck.
So if I do the root do you have to flash a Rom to delete bloatware? If I have to do a ROM the one posted above will it have sound issues etc? Thanks a ton.

should be receiving my Inspire tomorrow....coming from the captivate section, this is definitely a little different. I have a quick question though...
The hack kit is used to enable s-off, temp-root, flash a rom that allows use of an old exploit, then permaroot. Once permarooted and CWM recovery has been flashed, any rom from the dev section can be flashed which will keep the root.
My question is, this process only has to be done once, correct?? All future roms will be flashed via CWM recovery, and there won't be ANY need to return to the stock ATT Inspire, unrooted rom??
I ask because with the Galaxy S/Captivate/etc it is usually recommended to flash back to stock before flashing a different custom rom, which means you lose root. I usually didn't that, and never had a problem, but i'm just trying to get a grasp on how this process differs from the Captivate. I will be GLAD to have a phone that can simply be cleared and flashed via CWM for all rom purposes.
All i know is bubby's method, and with it, it gives you root but its just like when you bought it. Now i think you can use clockwork mod or something to manually delete the bloat from there, but for the trouble its easier to flash a new rom that has it already done for you, and get a few bonuses with it. The one i suggested has given me no problems and is a ton faster than it was stock, although your phone may be different.
My question is, this process only has to be done once, correct?? All future roms will be flashed via CWM recovery, and there won't be ANY need to return to the stock ATT Inspire, unrooted rom??

yes, the only need to go back is if you have to do a warranty return. Technically rooting voids the warranty, but if you undo it whos to know the difference

i actually meant to say "won't need to return to stock unless for warranty"...but yes i gotcha! thanks.
Like i said, although the Captivate seems more "open" or easier to root and such...in the end, this is going to be a MUCH better flashing technique compared to samsung phones. Everyone is always so worried about flashing to stock, doing this, doing that....
i guess i do have one last question....
it seems to be disputable at whether or not you need to do a factory reset/clear data within the CWM recovery during a new flash. When is it necessary and when can this be skipped?
Anytime your flashing a rom you need to do a full wipe, a benefit of CWM is it gives you the option when you start to flash anything to do one of 2 things A: being backup current rom, and B:full wipe.
So assuming you have a good backup already (if not do a backup before this step), just check the box for a full wipe and let it do the magic.
After getting the rom you want and you just want to flash a kernel, batterymod, etc then you only want to make a backup, you will not need to wipe at that point.
sounds good...thanks for all the help, Bamatide. Roll Tide!
I think i was just confused with the update process from within a rom, in which most dev's say it is ok to not wipe data in between updates. Flashing to a different rom requires the full wipe though everytime.
Just curious, but what happens if a full wipe is NOT done in between flashes? Is it just buggy or are there other problems?
The reason for a full wipe is because there could be conflicts between the two rom's where you could end up with just a bootloop and then you would need to do a wipe.
If you want there is a very simple way to do a full wipe, go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996383 and download the zip, this makes it very simple to do. I keep it on my sd card because I like to change rom's and this makes it very easy.
As for rooting I have tried both programs and found that Bubby's was the easy way to go, with the hack kit you have to be able to use the command prompt on the computer and with Bubby's it does it for you. I am not a whiz with command prompt that is why I did not use the hack kit.
I hope this helps especially the one click wipe, it work's great.
So with buddy's do you have to make the gold card what ever that is lol. I didn't have to do anything like that on my old aria and was curious. Also can someone make a sticky that explains what s-off is and what radio s-off etc. I didn't have any of that on my aria and I would like to know what they mean.
And to the op I'm sorry to thread jack but it was the exact same question I had. Hope you don't mind I'm asking on top of yours.

Don't be sorry most of us would rather you search then start a new thread. As for which method to use, essentially they are the same except the "one click" does most of the dos commands for you. Both downgrade your rom and radio and use that as an exploit, to root and s-off the phone.
Now problems people run into, there still seems to be a problem with CWM and the one click. For this reason I will recommend the Hack Kit, its nothing against bubby but it is sad to see the same "cwm blank screen" thread resurrected everyday.
Essentially s-on is Security on meaning you cannot flash unsigned roms. Radio s-off essentially allows you to flash custom roms. To flash a stock rooted rom you will need s-off.
With both methods you will need a gold card.
S-off also does away with the Gold card, once you get S-off you can format the SD card be done with it.

[Q] Is it safe to assume...

First off, let me apologize for being a NOOB. I hate myself. HOWEVER, I watched the video and I'm following the rules. So go easy...
AFTER having ready TONS and TONS of post and threads, I have still not found a definitive answer to my question.
Is there a copy of the stock ROM (or RUU) for the HTC Doubleshot (aka myTouch 4G Slide) that is readily available?
I have had my phone for about a month and am now wanting to root. I would like to have a stock backup for warranty reasons (obviously). I have never rooted an Android. I have "jailbroke" many iPhones and in the begining I always had a backup just in case. Is this not a possibility right now for the HTC Doubleshot?

Don't hate yourself, everyone starts somewhere. Welcome to android, where a stock, un-rooted device is capable of much more then a jailbroken i-anything.
There are a couple of ways to go about getting a backup - click the link to backup guide in my signature to see how to go about making backups of your data (both through ADB and CWM).
If you want to grab a ROM file from the dev section, supposing you don't have your own backup:
In the dev section:
De-odexed stock repack
Stock - equivalent of a factory reset on a fresh device
And also, Undeadk9 made a stock version that is de-odexed, has root and so forth, check it out:
Stock - rooted, busybox, etc...
Also, once you get from S-ON to S-OFF there really is no way to go back, but it won't have any impact on your warranty or exchange ability if needed.
Thanks. I am looking forward to this. If you are referring to the Stock ROM uploading by UndeadK9 or PaulObrian ( i think those were the names) I have already kind of glanced over those. The DEVs made sure to mention that they weren't 100% stock and It was "flashing" at my own risk. I don't mind this. I am just worried that if I mess up somehow I won't be able to take it back to T-Mobile to get a new one because they will see that it has been rooted... I
The one that is the equivalent of a factory reset on a fresh device is what you would want to use, if you wanted to go back to stock, with an odexed ROM, and all.
Thank you for the help. I am reading the Backup Guide link in your signature right now...
I was following instructions on how to use the Revolutionary Method to root my phone. ALL that I did was download Revolutionary, The HTC Fastboot Drivers and I obtained my beta key from the website. I hooked up my phone on charge only with USB Debugging enabled. The program ran fine and it said successful. The next step was to power down and then do an HBOOT. HOWEVER when I hit selected power down, my phone shut off AND IT WONT TURN BACK ON! Help!
What do I do? Please help me... Did I just BRICK my phone that friggin easily?!?!?! =(... I could cry....
Turn your phone back on it should resume revs picks up where it left off normally. If it doesn't hit power and volume down at the. Same time that will bring you to hboot (skating androids) verify you have s off in the upper right it should say s off. Then reboot.
You should be fine. And if it won't turn on as in power up you may want to check your battery

[Q] [Urgent] May have softbricked my phone, need help

Ok so I'm very new to the whole root business, and I only rooted my phone so I could use my ps3 controller via bluetooth which would then allow me to charge my phone at the same time. Got all that working and I was pretty much done with anything root related. That was two days ago. About an hour ago I decided, hey, why not see what I can do with my phone now that it's rooted. So I download the ROM manager and titanium backup. I found a ROM that I think I've heard people talk about before called Cyanogen Mod and I download the stable version of that and I went into ROM manager and I installed it there, it went through the reboot into recovery and everything. At least I thought it worked. It rebooted and I really didn't see anything different. So I manually went into recovery mode and installed Cyanogen from my sd card and rebooted my phone. However, it didn't reboot. It took me to a screen with a yellow triangle that says Verizon found software it doesn't authorize and I should take my phone to the nearest verizon store. It displays this everytime I try to boot my phone. All I can do is boot into ODIN mode. Please someone help, I'm at a loss as to what I should do.
All I can tell you is that you did not unlock your bootloader. You can fix this, but you're going to
have to do the work. Read about Odin.
Well, I read around and It told me to flash the Jellybean 4.1.2 thing to re-root my device and unlock the bootloader in the process. The heading was, If I rooted my device and forgot to unlock and now am getting a yellow triangle, so that seemed like what I needed. I flashed with odin, it said it passed and it auto rebooted my phone, but it still came up with the triangle.
I never said anything about flashing files with Odin.
I just said to read about it.
That's all I'm going to say...read.
"it" told me not "you" told me. All you said to do was read, so I did. I found something that seemed to be similiar to my problem, so I tried it out. It didn't work, so I put it here for more information, just in case someone has an idea on what might be wrong.

I can tell you are new as you rooted your phone twice and STILL didn't unlock the bootloader. It makes sense to ask us how to unlock the bootloader since that is the problem in the first place. Also it is a stupid idea to take a rooted phone to Verizon as you just voided your warranty by rooting your device which is why you read before altering the software of an expensive device.

Yes, it is pretty obvious that I am new. If all I have to do is unlock my bootloader, then is there somewhere you can point me so I can work on that? I'm just having some trouble figuring out how to unlock it with only being able to boot into ODIN mode.

which root method did you use? As all pretty much give you instructions to unlocking the bootloader. If you use the Odin method then you didn't follow the method to the T as you are SUPPOSE flash a file provided that unlocks the bootloader. In one of your posts you said the following "Well, I read around and It told me to flash the Jellybean 4.1.2 thing to re-root my device and unlock the bootloader in the process" That is basically one of the root methods so no I won't point you the right direction as you already found it. Oh and please follow directions carefully.
Look I can tell you are pretty frustrated. So i am going to be a little bit nicer than the guys above. First make sure your phone is fully charged. This is very important. The first link is Odin. load that on your computer. Make due you have Samsung drivers. The 2nd link is to unlock your bootloader. It gets flashed via odin. Make sure you load the file via the PDA button in Odin. After the flash your phone will reboot automatically. This should get u up and running. If it doesn't you will need to follow the instructions for the last 2 links I posted below. This last 2 links flashes stock and shows you how to root and unlock your bootloader. I know the guys above want to u to learn how to do this stuff on your own but many people seem to forget that some people that come in here are not as tech saavy as they are. But be warned. You MUST read ALL instructions to the letter BEFORE starting the process. This is to educate yourself. Remember u need Odin and the Samsung USB drivers installed

Well I finally managed to fix it. It was after I read the post above, but it works now. I want to thank everyone who posted in here offering advice.
It may not have been the most sophisticated way to do it, but I basically flashed a stock image of jelly bean 4.1.2 onto my phone, and then factory reset it. It's fine by me that I lost my data, (the only annoying thing is all the game saves) and I'm just glad I'm not going to have to go through the awkward process of explaining how I voided my warranty to my parentals.
Again, thank you all.

Just bought one!

I bought a MyTouch on Amazon for 43 dollars.
Can someone provide a simple guide for me so I can update it to the latest CWM? I've never done any mods with an HTC like this and when I did it was the Hero and I hard bricked it. I had a few G1's, too...
Anyway, can someone PM me or reply to this? I need something quick and easy.
Starting from Rooting and finishishing at CM install.
My current device is an LG Phoenix, so... Big Upgrade!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801106
It will unlock your bootloader, add CWM, and root your (arriving) phone (in that order). If there are any dead links, I should be able to help out (except for the drivers - you can either try ADBSetup or use Linux to unlock the bootloader).
I would skip Juopunutbear unless you are planning to flash every other week . I did it, it's no big deal, but the best I got out of S-OFF was to change the start-up logo (before the bootanimation).
Hope this gives an idea.

So what if I don't have Admin privileges on a computer? Will Fastboot and ADB still work? I don't know about the drivers...
And I had the original myTouch 3G and I installed the Visionary (the one with the yellow triangle with the lightning bolt hitting a guy) APK file. I was able to flash CWM Recovery after Visionary rooted the device. Is it possible to flash ROMS using CWM instead of unlocking the bootloader?

Probably not. I haven't seen a situation where drivers can install without admin priv.

That would be gaining root through an exploit. If I recall correctly, all of those have been sealed in future OTA's. The only way that makes sense (that is, not trying every rooting package out there) is to unlock the bootloader first. It's really not that bad.

The MT4GS I'm getting is running Gingerbread. If I use GingerBreak APK to root the phone and install CWM, can I still back up the stock OS? And for future reference, how would I keep the baseband once I'm ready to flash ROMs? Like the IMEI and stuff like that?
And the guide that you directed me towards is slightly complicated.
Is there an APK that can turn S-Off? if so, how reliable is it?
And for future reference (I like saying that) the ETA for device delivery is Wednesday on the East Coast of the United States.

Getting out of my comfort zone here, but that should be possible. CWM will be able to back up system and boot, effectively the stock OS.
Haven't heard of people losing their IMEI's with this phone, nor of any backup to protect it, so that should be fine.
When I went through it, I found the guide a bit daunting as well, but you get used to it (alternatively there is below, which I never used).
There is no APK to S-Off (too complicated for a user app, and your phone would be upside down half the time thus making the screen unreadable), but there is this that can speed up the process:

This can root as well. It's no APK, but should get the job done.

*cringes* Windows admin priiivveellleges.....?
And can we just talk about this through PM? the XDA site is destroying my data. The app is better.
s-off has gotten easier. juopunutbear (or however you spell it) is no longer needed. rumrunner s-off is by far easier to use. this is what I used combined with the windroid program to root.
I bought one from a liquidator online. Brand new, out of the box, with the plastic still on the screen and stuff. Unmarked battery, though. Charges a bit too fast. Was labelled as "refurbished" but came in the original manufacturer box with original PC sync cable and chager. I found a way to root the stock ROM without S-OFF, just with CWM. All I had t do was flash a 2.3.6 ZIP that had the SU binary and the .apk file for the Samsung Galaxy Admire. It works on the really stupid Huawei model, too. Which, I installed the Raspberry Pi variation of SliTaz on it, and it works great! But as soon as I came back to my apartment from work I unlocked the bootloader(HTC model), installed CWM, flashed the ZIP fro 1.4 DS, and then did a backup of my old non-functional broken peice of shi...Yeah, and then then flashed the boot image through fastboot, and then restored my backup. My point is, though, my Minecraft PE and my Ravensword 2 installations diappeared after restoring the backup. Any ideas of why this happened?
