I restarted my phone and I guess the instant I did it received a txt message. So when I went into the stock messaging app it says that have a.new text message by having a 1 at the bottom. I have deleted all my messages and restarted my phone and yet it still says there. It doesn't say that I have the txt message anyplace else and it is really annoying.
I am not rooted and don't want to reset my phone. So any ideas?

Its a bug...after receiving a message and reading it...it doesnt reset properly. If you want the count to reset, goto applications>running>messaging and.clear the cache...it wont delete your messages but will reset the counter
Dont worry, you didnt miss not getting a message.
I just encountered this problem today and deleted the cache. Still not reset.

So my phone keeps telling me i have a text from my sister, but when i go to the inbox there is nothing there, so i will clear the notification from the dropdown menu. but every time i get another text say from one of my friends, the one i cleared from my sister will show back up again, but once again its not in the inbox, and its been doing this for about a week now. has anyone else had a problem like this?
Try this, go into your messaging app and delete the whole thread with your sister. See if that gets rid of the notification reapearing. If not, reboot the phone. And if that doesnt fix it either call tmob (if that is your cell provider) or try a factory reset (this will erase all the programs you have installed and settings so do as a last resort unless you like setting up your phone again).

yeah i have deleted the whole thread, that didn't work. and it only shows up if i have chomp installed? i have uninstalled it and re-installed it but it keeps showing up.
Hmm, you have another phone you can put your sim in? If so try that, see if you get the sms on that phone. If so delete it. Reboot the secondary phone and see if it shows up again. If not, put the sim back in the G1 and see if it comes back. Otherwise Im thinking a factory reset is in order.
Maybe its saved on the sim. Go to setting on the messaging app and check your saved sim messages.
Hey , my beloeved XDA2i has just stopped sendig and rec'g messages .
Tried a soft reset and a hard reset without success.
THe XDA has been perfect for so many years and then the battery stated to fail meaning it kept randomly resetting it self , I got a new battery which stpped the reset problems but for some reason I can't send text messages.
I just tried sending a text to it from another mobile but although it AWOKE from it's slumber which is a good thing , there was no actual terxt to read and it still said "no unread messages" , still not even giving the option to write a text let alone send one !!
HELP !!!!
Any ideas ?

Anyone have any ideas ??
Using GoSMS and the stock Messaging app, I have been unable to successfully send a multimedia message. It just ends up in a "sending loop" that never gets resolved.

I am using GoSMS with no problems at all!
Is your data turned on?
Happened to me last night right before I went to sleep, all I did was click the little "sending" icon and it finally went through. Hasn't done it to me any time before or after that.
i have newer version of captivate with gps fixed but few days ago it stopped sending text message although it can still receive text messages.
normally after sending message, it usually displays time stamp under the text but when it does not work it just displays "sending" as status indefinitely.
phone is rooted and has gingerbread i believe.
I also called customer center service and they did not see any issue from the point of service provider.

I'd have them check again to make sure that text is setup right on your account.
Beyond that what have you changed recently. Typically something like texting wont just stop working on the phone without something having been changed.
Is the ROM that's on there one you flashed? If so back it up, reflash to a clean state and see if text works. Then restore a bit at a time and see when it fails.

somebody also had this problem and he did a factory reset and he was able to send messages again but he is saying that he has lost his root although it's not possible

DID factory reset and now can send message. but cant root it back. crappy phone. tried from both of my laptop and desktop machine using odin v1.81. problem never gets around captivate.
Do the heimdall flash of KK4 or Apex ROM. Same as stock, but with root and all the problems gone.
ok so i got a boost mobile moto g, great phone and all but.. i unlocked the boot loader, wiped the stock rom and installed cm11 and it went well for the first 2 days or so. i will now get "ghost" texts. it says my sister is trying to send me a multi-media text but she has never sent one. then it started saying "no APN specified on device" whenever it did this. then fixing my permissions with rom manager started deleting dolphin browser everytime i fixed em. also whenever i reboot my phone i must make a phone call before it will allow me to send a text or else the text just wont send. last but not least, yesterday i started getting texts from people that didnt send me a text or sms saying that i sent a text that the person i was texting had actually sent. anyone have the same problems? any luck on solving them?
