Okay so I know I'm a newbie but... Can anyone tell me how to get Flash on my At&t Captivate? I know 2.2 has been released and but apparently I need a step by step guide even though I've been doing this for a long time (maybe I'm suffering from altzhiemers).
Search the app market for "flash 10.1". Install.
You need to have android 2.2 for Captivate. Then search "Flash Player" on the Android Market. I don't recall if the app is pre-installed on the 2.2 Captivate.
Good luck. Click on that link... I wrote up that guide... it's fairly easy to follow. Just remember to take it step by step and follow each one exactly. Download mode, have odin open, then plug in, and flash away!
Flash player requires Android 2.2 which hasn't been released for Captivate yet.

thats because you are not as LEET as the ones that all post there are too many bugs to run it....
i have been running FroYo since about 3 hours after designgears dropped the leak on us....there have been a few quarks that we have had to work out, but any BUG that some people think thats there, is easily remedied with a little looking around on the forums.
you know, its the cool thing to be against the FroYo movement....
lol my wife is running froyo with no issiues

Same here..
Also, OP, I've found the absolute easiest way to get FroYo/root/lagfix-all in one is with Cognitions Odin thing. It flashes the latest version of Cognition and take only about five minutes. Extremely simple. Almost as easy as the Odin3 one-click stock recovery thing. And obviously with Android 2.2, you can use install flash from the market and use it to your heart's content
JI6 leaked Foryo bugs are well doucmented in a dedicated thread. You probably rarely use your phone if you don't encounter any bugs.
Yes, I'm aware there are ways to work around some bugs (like replace the email client with the older email client) but that doesn't mean the ROM has no bugs. And my phone still need reboot at least twice a week to make it funtion correctly. Otherwise, the phone just slows and lags and some menus just show random stuff.
Even Samsung has to pull its *official* JP6/JPM release in Europe to fix the various issues.

so why not use a rom based on it that a kind dev has already tweaked for us?
not use my phone much??? LMFAO!
its my work phone (email and cell), personal phone (email and cell), gps (yes mine works), handheld game device, and toy.....
yeah, thats not using it at all....
most of the roms out there based on the leaked froyos are very stable and good enough for daily use.
You lost me there, bro. What the buggy Froyo leak from AT&T has anything to do with custom ROMs? I'm not anti-Froyo. Just stating the fact that current leaked beta ROM from Samsung is very buggy.
I said the leak Froyo ROM is buggy. And you said it is not because you're running a custom ROM ?? WTF? It's like saying I'm running a Nexus One with Froyo w/o problem hence there should never be buggy Froyo out there for any phone.

LOL....and i said that the 'bugs' can easily be remedied by looking around on the forums. the custom rom came into play because all the tweaks have already been done for you and do not require you to apply anything special to rid the 'bugs'.
honestly, the bugs that are being claimed are very minute, and dont warrant a blanket statement like, 'Stay away from Froyo for our phones!!!111 its evil!!!111'
reading comprehension is a skill.

Ok guys questions answered. We are not gonna get into the Custom vs stock rom debate again, there are plenty of threads for that

THESE ROMS ARE FASCINATE ROMS. DO NOT USE THEM UNLESS YOU ARE RUNNING THE FOLLOWING:
EC01 (ED01) Fascinate Radio
Fascinate Kernel
IF YOU ARE NOT USING ALL OF THE ABOVE DO NOT FLASH THESE ROMS
See dfgas' post here for getting ec01 set up intially
Now that you've been properly warned, here's my intro:
I am not the creator of these roms. I merely edited the necessary files to make them work for mesmerize users running ec01 setup. These rom's have been bug tested and are being developed by the fascinate guys, they will get issues resolved as they are able. Since we are using their firmware, we may have bugs or issues that they may not be experiencing and those should be kept to this forum.
Any and all risk and liability is on you. If your phone breaks, call the wahmbulance. I've tested all these roms on my phone so they worked when I upped them.
These roms are for USCC users only, on mesmerize phones running TW kernels.
See original fascinate threads for installation methods.

Any fascinate roms will work as long as we make the edits noted in the post by dfgas correct? I ask because I noticed one of the roms in this post was updated today.

This is true as long as you keep your rom release/kernel in mind. Make sure any roms you use matche your kernel. I simply got these up here for folks that didn't feel comfortable editing the build.prop or moving apps on their own.
Okay. Thought I would check. Thanks for putting these up here.

Great. We encourage people to dig in and try stuff. You should upload anything you do for the rest of the community as well.
so I got the EC01 installed....checked my regular USCell setup and everything worked still....So i went ahead and installed the OTB-Reloaded TouchWiz ver 1.1 Kernal.....everything's good......but when I tried to install the fixed Rom (evil) for Mesmerize....it just didn't work.....it said install aborted (bad)
any pointers? I'm downloading Blackhole 4.4 and am going to give that a go...
and yes, lagfix was disabled!
I tried the Evil one as well, and I got constant bootloops... I redid everything from scratch (Stock) and tried again, it got into the ROM but many FC's... Then I wipe Cache and Dalvik, and it went back to Bootloops... Tried at least 4 times..
However Blackhole works just fine using the same procedure ...
Shame because the last ROM on that list seems like the best... Oh well will try out Blackhole..
EDIT::: In fact after all that messing to get the Radio files on etc, it made no difference whatsoever on my 3G Speeds... The ping went down, but everything else is the same speed wise...still averaging out at 1mb a sec tops...
Well back to Stock EC10 and Mesmerize SuperClean ROM for me for now.... Was fun trying tho

I have the same issues with otb-reloaded kernal. The original OTB worked great. My suggestion is to use jt's 4/15 release to get things going. Once you get to ec01 installed and working, then try going to a different kernel.
leave jt's kernel in place until you get your rom of choice loaded.
If all else fails, goto #samsung-mesmerize irc chat and ask those guys.

Well, you can get yourself some webspace, like, mediafire or megaupload, upload to one of those sites, then make a thread.
You can send it to me and I can host it on my peronal server.
Or you can come up with option three on your own, lol.
I'm on the mesmerize MIUI rom right now... I'd LOVE to switch to the EC01 radio if there was a MIUI rom for it... is there MIUI for the fascinate? If so maybe ill try tackling the necessary edits to use it on ec01 mesmerize.

I tried using the 4/15 release kernel with the EC01 Radio.
This is what I did:
1) Reflashed the Stock EC10 onto the mesmerize (fresh no data on it.. like out of the box)
2) Flashed Clockwork Mod and EC01 Radio to phone.. Checked it booted. Booted ok
3) Installed the JT Kernel (disabled Lagfix so it would not do any of that)
4) using CWM installed the Evil Fixed ROM from the OP
Booted, and it comes up with the boot logo.. Then does the Vibrate followed by three more Vibrates.. and reboots. keeps doing this till battery is pulled..
Then I tried wiping Cache and Dalvik, get the same thing...
Thats when I gave up.. after trying it three times....
I've heard others have issues with the evil rom. I have fixed the 3.1 update and will upload it shortly. You could try that one and see if the issue is fixed.

SO, I am running the EC01 radio with the fascinate MIUI ROM. all is working (to the extent of the MIUI abilities), and so far I'm happy as a clam. Ill upload the zip to megaupload as soon as I can.

EDIT: Zip file uploaded. CRAP. At first the changes I made to build.prop didnt stick, and it actually worked just fine. After making the changes and making them stick, now every time the phone boots it's sluggish and the "system" force closes. It only does it once, when you first boot. Any thoughts, anyone? It may be worth mentioning, near the bottom of the build.prop file, there was this line: "net.cdma.pppd.user=user VerizonWireless" i did not change it to anything different, like uscc or whatever... it wasnt mentioned in the needed changes.
As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.
So was it strange that I was never told this thread even existed and had no idea until just now? For anyone still having problems, a few troubleshooting techniques:
-When installing, are you sure you cleared cache and dalvik? If coming from a major release to a major release, did you do a full wipe instead?
-Are you using the proper radio, as posted in the first post of the thread?
-Are you using any task managers or antivirus apps?
i just flashed 1.2.11 to my phone which i decided to finally root after about 4 months, and i love it. I installed barnacle due to the stock hotspot debacle and when i go to use it it tells me that NAT is not connected. now here at work, where i am testing it, i dont have great connection but i can get 3g to work here. what does it mean when NAT does not connect?
Sorry, no answer here on the hotspot issue. Have you PMd Mister ClearD? He is very responsive and has been working hard on this whole hotspot issue... he'd likely be very interested in your problem.
I too am running 1.2.11, and am delighted with it. However, I am wondering if there is any way to get more volume out of the speaker for ringtones and alarms. I have them maxed out on the phone's adjustments, but it's still awfully quiet.
Michael look for an app called volume+ made by meltus I believe in the market. It works with gingerbread but not froyo. There is a few other fixes for the volume limit but I can't link them currently because I am on my phone. Do a search for it and it should come up. If someone doesn't post it up.

Hello,
Last night I flashed the latest ClearDroid ROM 1.1.51, but when I check under the software information menu, it says the Android version is 2.2.1
The flash seems to work because it says it's running Cleardroid.
Shouldn't it be running the Gingerbread (2.3) update or am I mistaken?
Also, the data connection seems to screw up, and only works when it wants. Sometimes ROM Manager will disappear from the apps menu.
I did a full wipe before flashing and it still won't work.
I also just flashed CoreDroid and it did update to 2.3 , but I want my stock HTC theme back!
Thanks!

The version 1.1.51 is still on froyo build but has the new ril for gingerbread. On the first page of the Dev post he has a link to the matching radio. Give it a flash and see if it helps with your data connection. If you want gingerbread his version 1.2.xx is the gingerbread Rom (still in beta), it has the fix for messaging but he is still working on tethering. It's still the stock look to the dot
On the app side I don't know what could be going on there, sorry I couldn't help on that point, (since I'm not having that particular error)

im personally running 1.2.12 RC2 which is his latest Beta, along with the suggested radio. i dont have any problems with network and it looks and behaves great while keeping that stock look. honestly i love this ROM. if you have any major questions just send ClearD a PM and he will get back to you. probably my favorite dev because he is so thorough and responsive to his followers.

to post my own answer ClearD told me that 1.2.12 has a working tether program. he is still working on making the stock tether work but for now the one he has included in the rom works great so no need for barnacle
Thanks Pytheous and Hiyabuz! I'll give the latest beta a shot because last night I flashed the rooted AT&T stock rom and my battery life improved but I'm still having data problems. Now I'm not sure if it's my cell company or the ROM that's causing the problems.
I'm afraid of flashing the radio and losing my signal completely!

This ROM, from what i can tell, is basically a stock ROM with all of the bloatware crap taken out, and a few cool gadgets added here and there. I love the ROM and the way it feels, but what i love the most is the responsiveness of the Dev for the ROM. If i have an issue i just send him a PM and he either sends me an answer or gets to work on it right away.
as for the radio i flashed the reccomended one on his original dev post and i actually get better signal in most places.
I also have another question of my own. i wanted to test out the GPS last night and it seemed a little more sluggish than stock. i could be immagining things but i was wondering if anyone else was having this problem also.

ok thanks buz. i just wanted to check
i only used it for about 3 min so it wasnt a very good judge of use
For example yesterday I retried mine first reconnect of gps after upping to new radio took 5 mins without vase and was sluggish. With case it took almost 10, today with case on first lock took 14secs with an 8 sat lock inside and using my case. its been awesome since he put in the gps fix. B4 it could take up to 30 mins for first lock without my case and it was only like 4 sats.

Will the Tiny audio fix work with this rom?
Issues with using latest gingerbread build.
Hello CleardDroid team;
I am a big fan your ROM, it works great on my phone. I have some serious issues using this ROM;
1) I am unable to compose message, when i try to compose message it force closes. I have tried alot to fix the issue but unable to resolve it. I have cleared its data, restarted it, fix the permissions using ROM manager, but failed to fix the issue.
2) Hotspot is not working, but I guess you are working on it.

Indeed.
I know our Infuses could run ICS. Hell, my Nexus S runs it beautifully. It's just a matter of the right libs. I think the hardware is more than sufficient.
im curious to see how the hard key/soft key issue is going to be worked out. Also since ive been using GoLauncher to get rid of my status bar, it will be interesting to see how the new menu button works.

Well the custom ROMs to come out so far for the Nexus S have either left them in (which some people prefer) or taken them out. The hard buttons would obviously still need to work (they do on the Nexus S) so you'd just get a bit more real estate at the bottom of the screen. Rumor has it that the official ICS update for the NS will not have the software buttons but as it hasn't been officially released yet, nobody knows for sure. It's a good bet though.

I wouldnt doubt it. It would seem redundant to leave them in. Hopefully google is really making an effort at unification with ICS. It would be awesome to not have a fragmented app store and dev.
My 2 Cent's
There is no question that the Infuse is capable of running ICS, other lesser devices are running it. I have a mostly stable beta running on my Inspire that has very similar hardware specs. (slower processor clock too 1ghz vs 1.2ghz) it really boils down to the correct drivers & libs/kernel I think ICS would be awesome on the Infuse.
Cheers

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to read.
I have a LG G2X, love the feel, the display, the specs and the price. Hate the phone....in every other way
I am on my 4th G2X now b/c I keep taking it back to T-Mobile to get a new one based on the following things my phone does:
1. It restarts 1-2x a week, randomly with or without a power adapter plugged
2. It freezes up every other day or so and requires a hard restart (battery pull) to resume use
3. It frequently takes 5+ minutes to get a GPS lock (tried in several cities coast to coast US)
Now if it were just the first phone I could say lemon, but every G2X I have owned does this, T-Mobile told me it was a known issue with the phone but couldn't tell me if it was software or hardware in nature.
So my question to you fellow forumites is this: Is the issue hardware related (move on to another phone) or software (Rom install fixes all my worries and I'm happy forever and ever and ever)?
If you're still using the stock ROM, and are still on 2.3.3, then you are experiencing SW suckage... Get a custom CM7 Rom on there and enjoy some of the finer benefits. Stability will be better but you won't be dead-set stable. GPS has been an issue for some since the inception of the phone. Others have GREAT GPS reception.
Research the Development forums and find a CM7.2 ROM that best suits you. You can of course go CM9 (ICS) but you won't get HW Acceleration and some things just flat out don't work yet.

The stability and GPS performance are greatly enhanced by the stock 2.3.4 ROM, also, if you're not a CM7 fan.

Thanks for the great responses guys, just another reason I love this forum.
I should have given a few more details, I am running stock 2.3.3 on T-Mobile in the US.
Few questions for a techie (but virgin ROMer):
1. Is the 2.3.4 stock available OTA? I haven't seen any available upgrades.
2. What does baseband refer to? (trying to educate myself on the terms)
3. Any favorite ROMs? My must haves are stability and speed, other than that any goodies/awesomeness is welcome but the first two are absolute.
I am tempted to stick to stock ROMs as I haven't flashed one myself yet and this phone is my lifeblood b/c of work.
On a scale of 1-10 where 1 is "I did it with on accident when I dropped it down the stairs" and 10 is "the most difficult thing you will ever do in your life" what is the difficulty for a ROM virgin to sucessfully flash to 2.3.4 (if it is not available OTA) or CM7/other ROMs,etc?
I am technical, 12 year IT professional with MCSA/CCNA, etc but haven't done much research into the ROM biz. If its not too difficult is there a "Must read" guide for noobs?

Difficulty is pretty low. If you can follow instructions, and understand what you're doing, then you should be good to go. If you want 2.3.4, you're gonna need to use LG's ****ty software. Either you use KDZ flasher, or LG's official PC suite. Both crashed on me constantly on Win7 x64. I was lucky/unlucky, it crashed right after writing the baseband (low level radio firmware). It hadn't even partitioned anything yet if I tried to turn it on, not even a backlight was showing. So I had to use NVflash to completely repartition it to stock. After that, I flashed CWM (clockworkmod), the custom recovery. Nowadays, TWRP is available. TWRP is awesome, and they have awesome Devs. TWRP (teamwin recovery project) is touch based rather than CWM and traditional volume key and power button navigation. There is CWM touch, but it's extremely experimental and I find it too glitchy compared to TWRP. TWRP is a work in progress however and there may be issues (I had one but it was easily fixed with one command when I spoke with the Devs on irc) I haven't had any serious ones though. IMO it's easier to NVflash in a Linux environment, because there is no messing around with drivers. But after drivers are installed on windows, the difficulty level plateaus.
As for my favorite ROM, that would currently temasek cm7 builds. They're stable, fast and they're customizable as f***.
I don't have any links right now, because I'm on my phone, (I can grab them later/soonish) you're going to want tga_gunman's thread named something along the lines of "One click recovery flasher" that's for CWM recovery. If you want TWRP, there's a thread that has TWRP in the title.
Also look for "ROM for recovery under NVflash" or something similar to that. That will take you back to complete stock 2.3.3 no matter what happened software wise, unless you somehow managed to break the baseband. The baseband is the only thing that cannot be fixed by NVflash, only can be fixed by LG's ****ty PC software.
For temasek's cm7 builds, the thread is not created by temasek, but the builds are by him. It should be at build 133 or 134.
If you need anything else, PM me maybe.
Good deal, I'm planning on following this thread from the general section (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594650).
I'm leaving out of state but will work on it over the weekend.
Thanks for all your help and support everybody, any additional comments are welcome before I start flashing this weekend.
Q - Do I need to get the owain's baseband flash fix or not with the ROM you sugested, the comments on the thread are confusing me a bit. If so where can I download the correct one, can't seem to find it in the Dev threads.

You only need that baseband fix if you have the latest baseband (March 2012) from v21y. It should be available in owain's hopto.

Help a noobie out, what/where is owain's hopto?
Edit: I'll test without the fix, to be sure and flash the baseband if needed, i understood from the comments in the ROM's thread that its needed for Bluetooth calls.
I might have found the baseband fix link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776843) can anyone confirm?

That's the one
Edit: if you need Bluetooth calling on the new baseband, don't flash any cm ROMs. Stay on the old one if you need/want Bluetooth calling.

Firstly thanks for all the good Q/A, like a good forum noobie, I'm marking thanks each reply.
I want to make sure I understand your comment. This is what I understood, let me know if I'm off/on. The CM Roms do not work with BT calling, so I should stick with stock if that's important to me? I would assume then for me to get beyond my current issues (OP) my best bet would be to Flash the 2.3.4 stock?
Thanks again for the info and time.
***edit***
Nix the above. I completely read it wrong, thought you were saying all CM ROMs didn't work with Bluetooth. Just so on the current Baseband.
I'm on Jul 15 2011 Baseband currently, so I'll attempt the CM7 ROM this weekend when I'm back home and able to devote more focus. Coming from stock 2.3.3 do I need to flash a kernel as well or will that be in the ROM <---showing my ROM noobness but unashamed to learn.

If you decide to get the newer baseband (you get it with 2.3.4 kdz, only way to get new baseband) and bt calling is important, do not go to cm. If you don't mind staying on the older baseband, bt calling will work fine on cm.

Lol, I feel so dumb, its like learning a new language while being held underwater.
kdz=?
I'm trying to understand why I would decide to get the newer baseband? If I do I can use BT calling but can't use CM7 ROMs, if I don't I can use CM7 ROMs and BT calls should work fine. Dont see the upside to upgrading the baseband, unless it has issues?
BTW as I haven't seen it, I get happy feelings when I look at your avatar

KDZ = LG's proprietary file type to update their phones via PC officially. A lot of people say the new baseband gives them better gps and call quality. Basically if you don't change baseband to the new one, everything will work perfectly. If you DO switch, everything will work perfectly, but only on stock. Everything will work on cm except Bluetooth calling with the new baseband. I don't think it's worth restricting yourself to stock because of the new baseband and and bt calling. My recommendation? Don't change baseband, just go to cm. Also, soon we might start to see android 4.1.1 jelly bean. They won't be stable for a while though.
Too much fun.
Couldn't wait, just finished flashing CWM, then backed up, then wiped like 400x then dropped the CM7 ROM you sugested.
Longest 10 minutes of my life letting it sit.
Working great, I'll update here with any additional info or create a new thread.
TY TY TY all
Update -
Still working great, only two issues.
* Cellular network is only showing E, played with the settings but can't seem to get any G networks.
* Google apps/play isn't installed, I think I have this one figured out to download/flash from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049154) (http://goo.im/gapps/) but I'm confused about which one to DL.

If it's cm7 get the latest gb one, if it's cm9 get the latest ics one... It has gb or ics in the name of the file.

Yeah goo.im/gapps is the best. For the cell network, try going settings> wireless>mobile>network operators and select "select automatically"
