[Q] ring tones more than 300k - HTC Inspire 4G

is there any way to use a file larger than 300k for an ringtone?
thanks in advance!

ringdroid app worked.

Or just flash cyan ROM.

get a file manager and make a folder called media. inside media make a folder called audio. inside of there make ringtone. paste your ringtones there. they then will b selectable from the phones ringtone menu.

need help mp3 ring tones ?

any one know how to ...
set the mp3 on the memory card to the ringtones ???
Not setting it to the SD card, but just copy the mp3 file you want as a ringtone to your phone's My Documents/My Ringtones folder and it will show up in available Ringtones.

I have saved my mp3 music in my storage device/ then I was able to set my ring tones and other tones from that.
I had to convert to WAV and put it in the root of my sd card, then it showed up in the list of available ringtones.
Make SD card/My Ringtones folder, copy *.mp3 to SD card/My Ringtones folder and set ringtone, but SMS ringtone, copy *.mp3 to windows\ folder and set ringtone for SMS.
I always copy my mp3 ringtone on \My Device\ApplicationData\Sounds folder.
The mp3 will automatically added to your ringtone list.
Thats very weird how there are so many different ways to do it but with mine i didnt have to create new folders or convert the songs.

Removing ringtones from Samsung media player

I've added some custom ringtones to the ringtones folder, but it's also showing up in my media player and it's annoying. Is there a way to fix this?

I just change the tags for artist and album to ringtone. At least it keeps them grouped together.
I just came across this from androidforums.com, posted by user keredini.
Get a File Manager (like Astro), mount the drives to your windows machine, or use the 'My Files' application to do the following:
Remember you have your internal SD card (the 16GB one that comes with the phone, it is located in the file system on the phone as \sdcard), and your external (removable) SD card that you provided (it is located in the file system on the phone as \sdcard\sd)
you need to create a folder on the internal SD card for your ringtones.
Create the following directory:
\sdcard\media\audio\ringtones
more than likely there will be a notifications folder in the same place, just create the new folder there. Move all your ringtones into that folder. Once the file(s) are moved, media scanner should run.
From there the ringtones will no longer show in the default media player (mine were also removed from cubed which is the player i use), but are still accessible when selecting 'Phone Ringtone' when assigning ringtones.

Sounds like the solution we were all looking for. Thanks to the OP!
Edit: I just tried it out, looks like it didn't work for me
I put mine in sdcard\media\ringtones and Music Player doesn't see them.

this worked for me!!!
backup the ringtone >
open music player and delete it from there >
convert ringtone to .wav (not .ogg) >
transfer it to phone >
you may need to open a file explorer and
manually open each sound to get them
to register in menus
reset your ringtones and notifications
***don't forget to reset sms notification
via: Messaging > menu > settings >
select ringtone
All I did was copy one of my nomedia files to my ringtones folder and they don't show in media player. With extended rings it doesn't interfer with setting it as a ringtone

Have you plugged the phone into your computer and copy pasted the file over?
I am not sure where to start, how new are you to smartphones?

I am pretty new. I have not pasted the file over. I guess mainly I am just wanting to know what directory I need to put the file in? Do I need to create a directory? I have Droid Explorer working, and Root Explorer installed on the phone.
Ringtones:
path /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
ringtones. note, they must be of a certain size, I cant remember what, but it will tell you at the time of assignment
Notifications:
path /sdcard/media/audio/notifications
ditto to the ringtones.
NOTE:
/sdcard is what android sees it as.
When you mount it in to your computer, it will just be /media/audio/ringtones.
I'd also like to suggest Free application RingDroid http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.ringdroid for on-phone editing of ringtones from sound files. Very useful, very friendly, works quite well.
The file directory is:
sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
You should be fine using the default My Files app and not Root Explorer. Make sure to convert the MP3 to a WAV file.

DO you have to use WAV? I use mp3s for my ringtones and they work just fine..
mp3s are fine. and no size restriction. i've used up to 5meg files. it only plays the first 30 seconds, but it doesn't seem to have a size restriction.
if you want a specific part of the song, i recommend Audacity. easy free audio editor
ok, I created a folder /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
I then dropped a 1MB MP3 into that folder, I then noticed in the notification bar that the media scanner had started. But when I go to the sound and display menu and look under voice call ringtones, the mp3 I put in there isnt in the list. How do I get android to add it to the list?
Edit: Nevermind. I found out what was going on. Android browser had downloaded the mp3 and for some reason gave it the file extension of .mpga Once I renamed it from *.mpga to *.mp3 it worked fine.
You do not need to create /sdcard, it is the main directory. I also recommend converting the MP3 to WAV.
why do you recommend it? there isn't any need to convert the file...is it just personal preference?

THE free trial version of audacity now overlays a "Voice Logo" on any file you use it to create - basically every 5 seconds you hear "AVS Media Demo"
i tried using it last night to edit the mp3 file from that samsung promotional video
ended up downloading adobe audtion 3, you get full use of the program, free for 30 days with no logo overlay

[Q] MP3 ringing call\alarm

Hi there,
I'm new here and i'm sorry if i'm doing something wrong.
i want to put a mp3 music as ringing call and alarm but i cannot find the mp3 to select.
how can i do that?or where can i put him so i can select it?
Thanks
For sure put it in Windows folder or My documents\Rings, but it only works for calls. For alarm you must use a .wav file, only under Windows folder.
Hi...
Thanks...Now is working well...
Thanks again...

Only .wav files will work for SMS/MMS alerts.
You copy them to your Windows directory and also to Windows\Rings.
Make sure you have everthing for SMS and MMS turned on in your sound settings. If it doesn't work, try selecting another file. Sometimes not all .wav files will work.
If you put an .mp3 file under windows folder, it will work for sms, maybe and for mms.
The problem is bigger:// Even system files are not playing the sms sound. Other files copied to windows directory also doesn't give a single sound of incomind message.
mp3 as sms/mms
i use mp3s for mms/sms. put them in your my documents folder on your phone. then go to settings-sounds&notifications-over to notifications-under event pick new mms or new sms then select the sound, it will be there

[Noob Q] How to set ringtone for SMS/call?

There is a default setting ringtone in my LGO3D. How to change customize that to use my own mp3 as a ringtone? Is it possible to set individual ringtone for each contact?
Thanks.
custom ringtones
I created a directory in mnt / sdcard that I named it audio, then I created ringtones directory in it, I put mp3 files there and then reset the phone, mp3 files appeared in a selection of tones
I manage to make it appear in my ringtone selection by placing the audio files in sdcard/media/ringtones. But now it make the audio not appear in music player. Default music player require it to be placed in sdcard/media/music folder.
Is there a way to make the ringtone files able to be browse and select? Any app recomendation? I tried ringo. But the audio files need to be places specific in the sdcard/media/ringtones.
I go into my music press and hold an mp3 song you want at it says use as ringtone
dno if that helps
this works
look on the market for "ringtone maker" it is free and you browse for a song on your library and then crop it and you can either set it is notification ringtone or default call tone
As for the contact assignment i have not tried this but just had a quick look in my contacts and i cant see an option for it.
Ringdroid
I use and enjoy Ringdroid.
Ok, found that ringo pro can do the trick. I hope there is a free way.
