Hi, I searched myself crazy here on XDA en google to find a solution for a problem.
I tried every phrase to get a result for what i'm looking for, so far no answer.
When you have app shortcuts on your screen then the background for the text is black/grey ( htc sense).
I'm looking for an app that removes those background and make it transparent.
I don't wanna use launcher pro or any launcher app. ( i know you are able to do it with these apps).
I had a while ago an app that could do such thing ( like bettercut) and you could change things like bettercut with extras like different background and change highlight color.
But,...... i deleted it a while ago and don't remember the name again. I don't even know where i got it from, was it here from xda or the market....
Does anybody know maybe the name for that app ( i think it came from XDA) or any solution to get rite of that background behind texts.
Thanks in advance
Lumi
Use desktop visualiser from the market. You can set any icon you want including the original icon, with or without the label underneath

Total noob question: How can I get the icons without the text on my front screen?
can't, unless you use a home replacement app (but i don't know which one will do it for Nexus One).
for Dream/G1 "advanced launcher 2.1" provided that option, but then... advanced launcher wasn't really very stable.
however i also miss the possibility to remove the text from the icons, because i like the clean simple look without the text.
so i am waiting for someone to come up with a home app that has this ability.
Yeah, that'd be a nice app.
More Icons does it, but it'll also resize the icons considerably, so not exactly a perfect solution or what you're looking for.
Try using anycut from the market to create shortcuts first, then set the name to a space only. Gives a little black "dot" where the space is but gets rid of the text without affecting the size of the icon ....
hope that helps someone ...
helixlauncher does it, i dont know if its just v7 beta or not, but check the market for the nexus helixlauncher *there is 2 to choose from*
I had to reset my phone and i lost all my apps, i found most of them but theres this note app that i really loved but i can't find anywhere. I've been looking for the past 2 hours.
It lets you create a widget that lets the write text on a colored or transparent background. You can also change the color of the text. I remember the app icon being pink (as well as the default color background for new notes) I've tried other apps like colornote and stickynote but they don't like them. They put a little icon on the screen that blows up into the note
Hey guys, I'm wondering whether there is a way to get rid of the icon labels background on the home screen and make it transparent. IMO it looks ugly. I tried looking for a thread that has a solution for this already but I could not find one, if such thread exist, please help direct me to it.
And anyone who might know the trick to achieve this, please share. Thanks!
If you mean riddance of the black background for the white text for the the icons...

There are 2 ways I can think of (and have tried).
===== If you are on stock TouchWiz: =====
Try the app "Desktop VisualizeR" (spelt exactly like that).
Market Link
Do note it's not the most "efficient" way of making transparent icon label backgrounds so it might be too inefficient for people that change homescreen icons on a regular basis. As in it takes awhile to setup all the icons but it works.
Steps:
1. Go to home screen > add widget > Desktop VisualizeR (1x1 SS).
then...
2. Click on the widget > select icon and action (in this instance you can just use an app "Icon" as the "icon" and the "Launch" action as "launch the app" > fill or leave "Label" > set "Label Color" as "Transparent".
Another thing you can do if you want all your future icons to follow a "template" of your choosing (e.g. I want all my future icons created using this widget / icon to have white text on transparent background), then go into your Applications > launch Desktop VisualizeR program > click "Menu" button on your phone > Settings > and now you can play around with the settings.
===== Use another launcher (such as Launcher Pro or ADW etc.) =====
I'm pretty sure there is a setting in the launcher settings that allows all created homescreen shortcuts to have a transparent label background.
I use the GO Launcher App. It solves the problem easily and shows the switch of the homescreens smoothly ;-)
My favourite launcher @ Maket
Thanks guys for your responses. I really wanted to achieve this while keeping the stock TW launcher but there just really isn't an actual mod or anything for this. Since I also wanted to be able to rename the labels, I ended up using GoLauncher EX instead. It's a very good alternative and yes, it is very smooth, especially with a kernel running at 1.7 Ghz.
If you use GoLauncher, you probably noticed that the icons on the dock are much smaller than the ones on your home screen. To make them similar, or in some, equal in size, I had to extract the icons I use on my dock from those .apk's and re-sized them from edge to edge to get rid of the margins because that is what's making them appear small on the dock. I saved the edited icons and put them on my sd card and just used the "Change Icon" option from GoLauncher to use the ones I edited. I also went ahead and made custom icons from folders so that they'll look better at least.
I have a screen shot of my home screen below for you guys to check out. Btw, I'm loving the G-Note! This device is just epic!

Sure. Just download the attachment below. Make sure when you select the icons for use, that you press "No Crop" so that they will display properly.
Thanks a lot, you save me much big time.

You're welcome.
I asked Trailblazer101 if he could modify his EC09 Everything Mod for our Continuums to several specific requests of mine. A bunch of requests
And he delivered!
I've long struggled with his mods affecting homescreen respawns on my phone. I use LauncherPro. Thanks to a great post by TXWolf1980 I took his advice and used Rom Toolbox to eliminate all kinds of unnecessary processes that were running automatically. Now I can use TB's mods and I see no difference in my phone's performance.
So, this flashable .zip is Trailblazer101's EC09 Everything mod with the following modifications/additions:
1) Ticker History button now requires a long-press too, like the weather button. Now, nothing can be executed from the standard Ticker screen without a long-press!
2) Long pressing the ticker history button after loading up ticker history puts the ticker into sleep mode. And now sleep mode is completely blank. Also, to exit sleep mode, you have to long-press the clock area. This means the 5 shortcuts to Browser, Market, etc are no longer present.
3) When the SMS icon in the Ticker is present (showing unread texts even when they're aren't any) you can now clear the icon by long-pressing it. If you use a 3rd party SMS app and still want your ticker to show incoming texts, you've been frustrated having to load up the stock SMS app to eliminate the unread text icon in the ticker.
4) The icons for the TW toggles on the pull-down menu and the status bar icons have been replaced with ones I designed with a blue theme.
5) The clock and date are now centered and the clock is the same blue as seen in the icons.
6) Long-pressing the search button is now recognized and configurable for such things as Voice Search or Quick Composing texts.
7) Weather and Ticker History icon are blank by default.
There is a feature that is not mainstream and I'd actually prefer it be undone for the masses, but I think Trailblazer101 is very busy with other things now. I asked him to make the long-press of the weather icon load up my RealCalc calculator app since I don't use the weatherbug program. As such, if you must have the weatherbug program and its functionality in the Ticker, you are not going to want to install this mod.
Major props to Trailblazer101 for doing all of this for me. I absolutely love the way my phone is set up now! He has been SUCH a help to the Continuum community. I don't know how to do it, but if I figure it out, I'd love to add a link to this post for thanking Trailblazer101

Well that's great news! Glad to know you're still alive!
If you want to re-create the Spearoid mod without the Realcalc tweak for the Weather icon, I'll edit the OP to point to that file.
I made a framework that has some blue softkeys to go along with the theme. didn't want to be selfish! XP
hope you guys enjoy it!

Is there anything in this that we can extract and use?

I realized I actually had the wrong set of icons in the file I linked to. They were simply the wrong color blue. You may have noticed the lighter blue in the signal icons not matching the blue in the TW toggle icons or the Ticker clock.
I've updated the OP with the proper link. THIS is what my tweak of TB's mod was supposed to look like!
I dont know if you even read this forum anymore but you state the weather and ticker and blank by default which isnt the case for me. While the ticker icon is blank the weather icon is still showing. Any idea why?
Edit: I feel like an idiot. Just after posting I remembered I set the weather app up before removing it. I went and removed the location and the icon vanished. Thanks for the awesome mod!
Well I don't come here often as it's a graveyard but glad you like it!
I've finally reached a place of contentment with my Continuum!

Very cool
This looks really nice.
Google Chrome icon mysteriously changed to blue. The icon has three shades of blue and in the Playstore when I look at the icon to uninstall it update it looks like the original icon.
I started Mbam scan and in the first couple of icons it was chrome and regular icon.
What gives? I posted it on Reddit and one user has a poco phone with this icon. No searches get any result for either of us.
Please advice
Cheers

Mbam shows no threats
i don't know what mbam is but i also don't care
what launcher are you using?
what themes do you have applied?
any icon sets?
when you go into settings>apps>chrome is the icon there the same or is it the original?
which icon appears above the app when you use the app switcher
is that icon in the app drawer or is it on your home screen

I know you don't care, but for anyone else reading this who does (and doesn't know), mbam is short for MalwareBytes Anti-Malware -- OP probably just showing that it most likely wasn't a "virus" changing things....
I'm fairly curious what the icon actually is (image searched it, too generic to narrow down) and why it got changed; I've had issues with shortcuts (in other situations) but usually many other shortcuts are also changed to either the same random icon or to other icons (as if from a "pack")....

It's ok to not care but simplepinoi has cared to provide reference in case you need it when you might get issues with malwares

Reddit user found the culprit: Microsoft Launcher!!
They seem to have updated the Icon pack "Microsoft Launcher" where chrome gets a more edge like look? I can't remember even changing it from "System" to "Microsoft Launcher" Icon pack...
Fixed it by going to:
Launcher settings > Home Screen > Icon appearances > Icon Pack > set that to System
I had to remove the chrome icon from the dock an add it again to get rid of the blue icon. Same for any added websites icons.
In my case it was just install launcher and forget so it probably was on MS pack. I must admit the default Google icons in the pack look better that generic Google ones but the did dirty on the chrome icon
