Ok so I Sbf'd my phone back to stock and went to root it again with Z4root as usual and it just won't root. I realize sometimes it can take up to 30 minutes and if you reboot it, sometimes it will be 10 seconds, but I left it to root overnight on the charger and made the screen stay on..When I woke up it was still spinning the little wheel trying to obtain root access. Very upset about this.. Any ideas guys??
Try rebooting once more, and then once booted, put the phone into airplane mode and try again. What version of z4root are you using?
Beamed from my MB810
i had this a couple of times rebooting should work
im going to try airplane mode method and then if that dfoesnt work ill just reboot it a bunch!
Z4Root
Mine is not working either... I just received a droid x as a replacement for my incredible through Asurion and tried this multiple times including rebooting plenty of times and putting in airplane mode. I still cannot get it to work.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do to get this working...
Thanks!
yep on 1.3.0 here the most up to date version and it will not work no matter what i do...
Had the same issue. Left it to run overnight, woke up and nothing. Rebooted several times and it eventually worked.
how many is several though??
is there any other way to root the droid x cause this will just NOT work
Are you perm rooting first? Or temp then perm?

I found only the permanent root works. I just battery pull until it works properly. It should show signs of life within 60 sec so don't bother running it overnight.

Reboot into recovery, clear the cache and try again. Worked for me the other day.
clearing the cache did not work hmm any other ideas myabe a data reset?
just tried the reboot and switch to airplane mode and it worked in about 20 seconds. don't know if it was the reboot or the airplane mode though.
just wiped my data and it finally worked guess it just glitches like that sometimes..
thanks everyone who helped!

The data wipe is what finally got it working for me, when I rooted my DX.

Do you have usb debugging enabled? I know it sounds silly because you arent rooting thru usb. But when I rooted mine I had it enabled. It can be found in settings, applications, Development, then enable usb debugging.

I read a previous post with some of you having the same problem, but there hasn't been a real positive solution. I have a Mesmerize that is running the official 2.2 release. My phone will reboot by itself and enter into airplane mode. After you turn it off by holding the off button and selecting it in the off menu, I turn it off for about two minutes, and switch it back on. After that its fine for a few hours. I previously had the leaked version and it did the same thing. Thinking it was a bad code I awaited the official froyo. Well, that obviously wasn't the problem. Lol. Now I'm on the stock official 2.2 and same problem. It is getting quite aggravating so I'm hoping for some ideas. Hoping the slow 2.1 isn't the solution. Lol. Any suggestions?

Have you tried doing a data/factory reset in recovery to make sure nothing funky made it through flashing? It'd give that a shot but you will lose all your info.
Yea, I've tried that 3 times. Thinking third time would be the charm. Lol. I've noticed if I shut my phone completely off once a day, it will only reboot into airplane mode once. Same area of service as well. Whenever I hit a roaming area it will reboot in airplane mode and will only come out of AM if I do a reboot. Getting used to it honestly. Just very irratating

Hi all,
Few days ago I used Odin to go back to the stock Rom.
Since then the buttons p, mostly the back button, are randomly pressed when I'm not touching them.
I tried to use Odin again, flashed other roms and even restored the system to a Rom that worked fine, but the problem repeats in all of them.
Any ideas?
Tnx

Bad Hardware= warranty replacement.
This isn't the right place for this, but you can emulate something like this for pointless fun. Try running this command:
adb shell monkey 3000
and marvel as your phone flips out.
I have the same problem I saw a thread a while back saying that the problem stems from moisture in the phone
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Interesting thing about the moisture, would explain why my phones search button will do this for 1/2 - 2 days and then stop for 1-2 weeks at a time.

ya I have the same thing with my search button. But it will press in storms of 10+ which is annoying but not as bad as home or back

I had it happen on my first Captivate with the back key, it actually freaked out so much the phone was unusable . As long as it can be reproduced they will replace it no questions asked. Just make sure you are on stock and have done a master clear.
Edit: this was without any moisture issues, before snow hit etc
I have the same problem when using 2.1 then flashed 2.2 and zero problem. you can try flash to fix it.
Hi, I started having similar problems. But with my Power button only. It doesn't press by itself, but when i press it sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. BUT it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem because the first time it happened, i tried reflashing the kernel and everything was back to normal again, after 2 months here comes the problem again. I was able to fix it after a Hard reset using *2767*3855#, but later on i decided to do a factory data wipe and the power button key started going bonkers again. So I tried doing the hard reset trick to try and fix it again, but sadly this time it didn't work. I also tried flashing back to stock, master clearing, wiping cache and dalvik cache, wiping data. Trying to bring everything back to stock. But the problem still persists, I can't find a solution. Is there some code that I can't seem to reset that's causing this kind of problem. Hope someone can help me. My phones unusable and it's making me go crazy trying to find the problem and fixing it

The fact that it comes and goes probably means it is a hardware problem and not a software problem

I was having the same problem with my home button. I tried everything above to fix it. The only thing that has worked so far is updating my phone to stock 2.2 using kies. My home button was acting up 2 to 3 times a day and now it hasnt acted once yet.

But sometimes it starts working flawlessly right after a flash or wipe. But goes bonkers again immediately after i flash or wipe again Making it seem software related

But wouldn't it make sense if the moisture also left the phone? The only thing that made up my mind of it being hardware was flashing to stock and having the search button click continuously immediately. I have had the problem on and since october. Usually once a month for a couple of days. I let it sleep in a rice bowl when it acts up

Ok so my phone just started doing this one day while I was running Cognition 4.x Don't remember the exact version. I then switched over to Firefly on version 2.7 and kept updating all the way through 3.0. It was doing it on firefly too.
It got pretty bad a few weeks ago so I started messing around with BLN and the haptic feedback. After cranking the haptic feedback up it seemed to quit doing it as much. For example before I started messing with stuff every time I turned the screen on the home button would go nuts till I pressed it several times. After I messed with the haptic feedback it would only do it about 1 out of every 5 times I'd turn the screen on.
Well tonight I flashed from firefly to 2.3, I'm running GR-9 and TalonDEV 0.1.3 and it hasn't done it at all tonight. It'll probably start after I post this, but so far so good on Gingerbread.
I don't know if any of that will help anybody else, but thought I'd throw my experience with it out there. If it starts acting up I'll post about it.
I am rooted and cwm recovery flashed. I have had a few instances in the past few days where it would drop from 2-3 bars 4g to X no signal. Just now it does it every time I attempt to download anything. I have tried enabling and disabling airplane mode etc and it does not help. I access the market with a couple of bars of 4g and instantly it will drop to X when I attempt to download or search the market.Any one else have these issues? Does anyone know what might be a fix for them(I know send the device back and wait for SSGII.LOL)
Send it back and wait. Thats waaaaayyyyy more fun. Heck you might even get an update one day. Of course I doubt it.
But hey its a nice phone.

I had the same thing happen a few times today. I noticed it more while checking facebook
Have you tried a factory reset?
I am rooted with cwm as well and have no such issues.
I have the same problem as well.
Very frustrating.
Who here HAS RETURNED a rooted phone?
Should it be a non-issue?
rooted, factory reset here as well. i guess i should update my Info
Mine does this every now and then, even with the Obrien fix. It's happened on the first 2 G2x phones I had, and happens on the one I currently have as well :/

Well you should unroot it first, then return it LOL
I'm on my 3rd G2x, and the first 2 were rooted (as is this one). I just flashed stock recovery and did a factory reset, then unrooted through One Click.
So I've had the phone for about 3 weeks now and never had the restarting problem but now it's done it twice in the past 24 hours. Anyone know why it's doing it and how to fix it?
no one???? it's done it more again

need details what rom/kernel are you using? or is it completely stock? whats running when it restarts if anything? check new apps maybe one is being screwy

Completely stock, haven't rooted my phone yet. The phone every time has just been sitting on my desk or I'll be holding it doing nothing. I always close everything after I use it using the task manager. Let me know if you need any other info, and thanks.

hmm if its completely stock I couldn't say why, but maybe someone with more experience than me could chime in... as for a fix, perhaps if you backed everything up first, then a factory reset might do the trick

I'd look at any apps you recently installed. My Fascinate would reboot quite a bit at times for no reason, it could be a Samsung glitch.
What I tell my customers to do is;
-check that there isn't any software updates
-pull the battery and wait 30 sec. I know it is the generic answer but it fixes most problems, it just like a computer if it not working right, restart. (Laptops mainly in pulling the battery.)
-or factory/data reset. It often will fix the issue but there are the few cases where it will not solve the problem. (and you will lose all of your stuff on your phone, contacts are backed up by Google or backup asst.)
-lastly, root it!!! no problems on my GummyCharged, v1.5, 2.3.4 (I don't tell my customer this choice)
Yeah I'm going to root soon. I just keep on reading these forums everyday so I can hopefully prepare for rooting with no issues.

Hey guys! I woke up this morning in a rush, tried to make a text and phone rebooted. Now it wont stop rebooting. I've managed to get it into recovery and flashed CM10 again and nothing. I managed to get it to stop for a bit, but almost every time I hit the sleep/wake button to lock the screen it turns off!!
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!
No eh?
Well it seems to be a hardware issue. Almost every time I lock the phone it wants to hard reboot. Sometimes when I'm in an app the power button menu shows up too. This is driving me insane.
Has anyone else had this issue!? I'm running cm10 so I guess my only option is to contact HTC?
Many questions u full wiped right? Have u tried flashing back to stock if that doesn't work have u tried ruu all of these should be done and if it persists after that than yes something janky is going on with your phone...did you mess with the CPU at all?
Why not try flashing another Rom and see if it still does it. Hope this helps in some way
