Just a few questions guys. Sorry if it has been discussed before. But, I'm coming from an HD2 and am thinking about getting an AT&T Inspire. Since the Inspire is a native Android device, it probably doesn't suffer the same bugs that the HD2 did when it has Android on it does it? In particular when you ran a Sense 3 rom on it, you would have trouble with graphic glitches. I'm guessing you don't have that problem with this phone? Is there some other known bugs that you face when you run a custom rom on the Inspire? I loved my HD2 so much that I had to get a comparable newer model of phone. I just felt it was time to get an actual Android native phone because of the various issues that I ran into. Also, if I root the Inspire will I be able to get rid of the AT&T bloatware if I choose to stick with the stock rom? I was running my HD2 on AT&T so I could only get EDGE with it and I got tired of the slow internet when I was not in a wifi area. Thanks for your answers!

If you're partial to CM7 based roms, not sure if this is a problem across the board for all devices, but at least on the Inspire CM7 roms don't like to read your SIM card, so back up your contacts to gmail and sync if you want to use a CM7 ROM.
I've used ARHD, Bindroid and Absolution. I have tried just about every rom there is on the Inspire but these 3 seem to be the most stable, a lot of support and just an overall great time. This isn't to say the other roms out there are terrible, I just fancy these and as anyone will tell you, different strokes for different folks. Your best bet, if you do get the Inspire, try all the roms out and see what best fits you, what minor bugs you can deal with and ones you can't. You'll find out very quickly what you're willing to live with and what you're willing to do without! Each ROM is not totally bugless, each have their share of little bugs and honestly the devs do a great job at fixing them and keeping their respective ROMs up to date (or at least the ones I have mentioned, again this isn't to say the other roms don't..I just use these consistently and can only attest to what they do). There use to be an audio issue but many roms have since fixed that. If you do get an inspire, the Desire HD is the same model phone pretty much and thus many of those roms can be flashed onto our device, if you take that route for whatever reason, you'll need to find the audio fix.
Thanks for the information. I think I will stick to the Inspire roms instead of the DHD ones. I'm a bit more partial to the Sense roms than the vanilla ones. I really like Sense. Yeah, I found that out with the HD2 running android. You had to try several roms out to see which one had the fewest most tolerable bugs. As far as roms not wanting to read the sim card, I always have a backup of my contacts on gmail. I thought it was convenient when I flashed a rom and signed in with my google account it would sync them all back to the phone.

No problem! I'm partial to sense roms as well but every now and then my CM7 inner child wants to have some fun. I typically keep to Bindroid (releases aren't as frequent and the following is small but man do they put out a really really stable rom). ARHD is another sense favorite of mine, also very stable, great development and a lot of mods/themes/add-ons. I use Absolution for my CM7 fix...again, great development, friendly group over there too!
Cool, I will be sure and check those out.
I also noticed with this phone you don't need to partition your nand everytime you switch out a rom. As a matter of fact you don't do that at all. That is a plus!!
does any one know of a rom for inspire that is like the 3dna software for computer its a vertual room that you click on stuff like a game console to get to you game apps and a desk with a phone and light and rol0dex where you can get to your phone to make calls and the light would be your flash light and rolodex you can get your contacts and so on and so on its a 3d of a room where your buttons to access your phone and apps are in the room go look at 3dna on the computer and you will see what im talking about if someone can make one like that for are smartphones that would be cool i have a htc inspire running on ics and my cam works to thanks to lord clockan i use the htc desire hd rom any way if some comes up with a rom like im talking about plz send me a link or a qr code for it would be cool to

Simple answer is no. There is no rom that is like that. A search of the available roms would have told you this.

Don't see a whole lot of rant in that post, but anyway. I feel that your view on whether to go CM or MIUI is spot on. I understand that people have a preference, but when I have seen and tried devices with both I end up with largely the same experience. Taste is all it comes down to!
i am very thankful for Cyanogen Mod. Never tried MIUI
can send mms with cyanogenmod?
I liked CM7, very fast and lots of memory
the only thing was I couldn't synchronize my contacts with FB profiles pics like in HTC sense

Herold,
I need you to work on your writing a bit more before you submit a piece to be critiqued. Proper apostrophe placement is not only a pet peeve of mine, but a clear indication of someone who refused to pay a very small amount of attention in English class.

I'm glad that there are so many developers interested in porting CM to various devices. It's the only thing that makes using a non-Google phone/tablet usable for me. I can't wait for stable CM9.
I love CM, the ability for themes is awesome. I currently use the ICS theme and it doesn't even look close to stock Gingerbread. And it is the most stable ROM that I've experienced, too.
Nice post, I never tried AOSP or MIUI and just recently got into using CM roms. Gave me more information on the new roms I've been seeing. I would agree you don't rant too much nor go into too much detail as the pros or cons of each variation of the mods.
I had CM7 with my Desire Z,
now with Sensation, I'm currently tryin InsertCoin 4.0.X
Can't really deside, both have their ways
I am hoping that they port over CM7 or CM9 to the sensation xl. Im currently running the bindroid rom which is good but really holding out for cyanogenMod.

I hope so too. I'm planning to buy the Sensation XL. But won't do unless i make sure there will be CM7 or 9 Port
i tried CM and MIUI and i prefer MIUI absolutely!
In my opinion, I think that CyanogenMod will surpass stock Android when it comes to features and stability, eventually.
It probably already has... when you consider that its on yaffs2 and not ext4
Stability?
I have been using CM7 ever since I got tired of rooted stock. The first version I installed was 7.0.0, which lasted about 4 months until it started wigging out. I flashed 7.0.3, and that was great until three weeks later it started exhibiting the same problems as the previous version. I reflashed the same version and had a little more success, lasting without error until 7.1.0 Stable was released. Since October, I've had to reflash at LEAST 5 times, due to instability. Now don't get me wrong, when CM7 works it REALLY works well. When it doesn't...my phone is worthless until I reflash. I would LOVE to know why everything starts force closing after x amount of time, as I'm really getting tired of setting things up the way I want them each and every time. *steps down from soap box*
i loved CM7 on my N1
Good too read a review about something which isn't commercially developed.
I need help, I know this has been posted to what would seem to be death, however I have spent hours reading and just seem to have more questions.
Ultimately here is what I want an inspire 4g running ics. Don't need sense. I have read about several ics roms and there seem to be various things that work or don't some dont support 4g, others the camera doesnt work. I know that ATT is not going to allow up date, therefore I am going to have to flash a new rom. but I am looking for suggestions, I am not a developer, just a guy who uses the bulk of his phones features ie. camera, video, messaging, email, web and data and lastly the phone it self.
So in a new ROM i am looking for:
Camera/video
Messaging
facebook picture intrigation, but assuming i can get from app
all g apps working ie 4.0 dialer, contacts, calendar, messenger, ability to use chrome browser and other 4.0 specific apps
Volume fix for inspire, we all know that it is awful low
slightly better than stock (current) battery life
wifi
bluetooth
I'm probally missing some things, but I want the rom to behave like an ics phone our of box.
Yes, I should just go out and buy a phone with ics or jelly bean on it like the g3 or one, but that is not in the budget, right now.
experience, i have put cm on a sd card and run nook from bootable sd card, that is my the extent of flashing roms that i have experience with.
could someone suggest a rom that is realtively idiot proof in instal that would meet the above requirements.
Thanks as the more posts i read the more confused i seem to become.
No worries. From what you mentioned flash a GB rom and skip ICS for a few weeks to a month or two until htc releases their ICS update. Which rom? Heck, blackice, CM 7.2rc3 or any of the previous ones, rd miui - or any gb miui, absolution and the list can go on.

I have to agree with going back to GB. Until HTC releases the source code for ICS things will always be Broken. And just to let you know. Non of the roms will work on 4G/LTE as the inspire is not a 4G capable phone.

Absolution 3.7 will make your socks come off. Absolutely perfect rom and no problems. Not sense but it is what you want I would recommend this rom to everyone and anyone. I've had no problems with this perfect rom the only daily driver I've used. check it out.

I've had my Shift rooted for several months now, and since then I've tried out several different ROMs. I've given up on trying to get an ICS ROM, and I can't use the 7.2 version of CyanogenMod because of issues with the bluetooth support (I rely on having my phone connected to my car's bluetooth system). No matter what ROM I choose, however, I tend to get frustrated after a few weeks, because they all seem to either lag or greatly drain the battery. I've gotten to the point where I'm only installing a handful of apps.
Does anyone have any suggestions for very basic ROMs that eat up the fewest amount of phone resources? I may try the Just Works mod, but I'm not a huge fan of Sense, either. It's still a few months before I can shop around for a new phone, but I'd like to get through that time with the least amount of frustration.

Definitely the most stable rom I've used on the shift
A lot of it has to do with what you prefer as far as what your going to be happy with. You mentioned lag. Make sure your you are rebooting the Device at least once every few days. Also running a Cache Cleaner on a schedule helps greatly with lag. As for Battery life there are many factors involved. But a few suggestions for Great Roms with good Batt life : Supreme Sense, MikShifted G , and newSense. Also make sure that whatever ROM you flash, you do a Full Wipe before flashing. That will help ensure the best circumstances for good performance, and good battery life from the ROM you choose.

After testing out several suggestions, I've decided that Kushdeck's Gingerbread Shift ROM is by far my favorite. While several of the Sense-based ROMs were nice, my problem is with HTC Sense itself, not the ROMs. I guess I've just never cared for it, even when I first got the phone and knew nothing of rooting.
By flashing Kushdeck's ROM and having Fast Reboot and App Cache Cleaner run on regular schedules, my phone is working more smoothly than it ever has.
I would love to have an ICS-based ROM, but until the issue preventing a bluetooth connection with my car is resolved, I will happily stay with my current ROM.
Thank you to everyone for your input and suggestions--they were very helpful and greatly appreciated.
Glad your all sorted, and running good

Yeah, nice choice. I'd flip between that one and newSense. I really started to like newSense toward the end of my Shifty career. Super crisp graphics with a custom kernel to boot. Too bad though we never got the rc3

CM7.1.0 stable, although I have had issues with hard keyboard especially. Used cm7.1.0 for almost a year and just went back to stock Froyo rooted. It is stable and runs all my apps and keyboard and bluetooth work perfectly. I have had bluetooth issues with gb sense, cm7.2 and all ics roms.
I've found that CM7.1 was the fastest for me and pretty basic as well. I would also recommend MikShiftedG 2.1 which isn't as basic as CM, but still runs pretty smoothly.

Well I am coming from the OG Droid Razr to the S3, and so far I am really enjoying it! It's nice finally having access to Official AOSP ROMs. (Before Razr, I had Thunderbolt, and the Moto Droid). However I'm just wondering about the glitches. The one's I'm mainly curious about are the screen flickering, and the NFC freezing. I should say that I have no experience in developing, so I'm sorry if my questions come off as inexperienced.
I'm just wondering if it's something where there will be fixes in the future. I'm enjoying it, but I'd really enjoy getting the NFC working. Could it be something where a dump from the Nexus 4's software could make progress in it, or is it something where we would need something from Samsung's end?
I just also want to thank all the devs for the great work they do for the community to help the hopelessly addicted crackflashers like me

NFC does work
CM10 is fully functional...as in 0 problems. CM10.1 (Android 4.2.1) on the other hand has some issues (low call volume, and low signal). For me, those aren't too big so I still use it. The screen flicker is now fixed on the later nightlies.
Ok, yeah I'm running the CM10 stable right now, the one from November. The NFC is frozen and wont start or stop. I've flashed the fix, gone to Touchwiz and made sure it worked, nothing on AOSP end. I've had some flickers from Gallery and the homescreen at times though. But I like using AOSP over TouchWiz, but I wish I had a notepad app similar to S-Note, with the drawing. Are there any apps similar to it or can it be ported to AOSP?
