How do you pull and create system and boot .img files on a non-rooted xoom?
Why are you wanting to pull and create a stock image when you can just download the stock images from Moto?
stock images are only out for 3g.
Then I think the OP needs to let us know which version of the Xoom he/she has.
They're available here (for wifi):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1017398
I got them by flashing a rooted boot.img to the recovery partition, and booting to recovery. Then I could pull the stock boot and system partitions.

Nicely done.
I have a xoom wifi only. Okay how would I flash the rooted boot to my recovery partition?

Hello,
is there a way to boot an external boot.img or recovery.img via adb? The idea is to keep the xoom unmodified, but boot an unlocked bootloader/recovery to perform a system backup.
Is there a way? On my old htc magic I could install a custom ROM this way:
fastboot boot recoverym.img
while recoverym.img was a modified (open) recovery system.
After installing the custom ROM via nandroid I had my original recovery on the htc untouched.
I tried that command with the xoom (and several open recoveries for the xoom) what gave me an error message.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Chris
OK so I was having problems with my tablet's recovery and I was following this guide that told me to basically wipe all my .img s (boot.IMG, system.IMG , ect.) via fast boot. Then it said to flash the update zip. Well I tried downloading the firmware from Asus website and whenever I tried flashing that with fastboot it gave me an error saying it didn't have a android-info file. Then I tried installing not twrp and cwm and they installed but whenever I tried to go to recovery it just went straight to the fast boot screen. So basically now I just have a tablet that can only do fast boot. What should I do? Is there a different update.zip I should flash or am I basically screwed

Your write-up isn't very clear. What is your current firmware version (Settings>About Tablet>Build Number) on stock ROM or reboot into bootloader and read it from the upper left text block. Did you install TWRP or CWM recovery? What recovery version? What update.zip? What guide were you following (provide link)?
I have a N5 rooted and with custom recovery.
I plan to install the factory image via fastboot.
I don't want to lose my userdata, so I plan to extract the different .img files and flash them one by one (except userdata.img)
Can I not flash recovery.img so I can keep my custom recovery?
What are the .img files that I must flash for keeping my files, settings and my custom recovery?
Thank you on advance. You are the best!
I flashed the system and boot img's
Then booted into recovery and wiped caches
Then flashed the modified kernel for root and supersu 2.19 before booting and I've kept data and recovery fine

Do I need other kernel for being able to root? I was only thinking of installing superSu for getting my root back.
Then, the only .img that I need to flash are the system.img and the boot.img. Am I right?
Thank You!
You need the other kernel, cf-autoroot does this for you.
I got this prompt and verified the partition. Now when I try to boot into recovery I get boot error, blue and red light flash for a while then I have to remove the battery to reboot. How can I reboot into recovery or did I do something terrible wrong?
Did you flash a bumpd' twrp? If not, that's the problem. Use flashify and flash a bump'd recovery.

Here is the link to the most recent TWRP, flash the D850 variant (of course) via flashify or by the instructions on that post.

Will give it a go. Didn't know it had to be bumped >.<
Here's a question though. When I put twrp zip on internal do I need to move stock recovery out or can they both be in the same folder together?

Better yet I can't even find my recovery file on internal -_-
Use flashify back up stock recovery then install twrp using flashify
I did the same thing and ended up having to use the LG flash tool to downgrade back to KK, then root, then flash recovery, then I was able to install lollipop ROMs.
I was tring to to root my Xiaomi note 5 plus (vince) and by mistake i flashed my recovery and my main Android system with TWRP and i know that its not just going to recovery because both are a different version twrp so basically now i have twrp for both system and for recovery so i need someone's help to remove twrp from system and put some android stock rom in it so i can have an android system and twrp for recovery its been 6hours of trying someone please help before i accidentally brick my phone.:crying::crying:

Can you boot into TWRP? If so, all you need to do is download any custom ROM made for your specific model number then flash that ROM file via TWRP.
If you can not boot into TWRP, can you boot into bootloader/fastboot mode? If so, download your stock firmware then extract it to find a copy of your stock system.img, then flash the extracted stock system.img via fastboot.

I was able to boot in twrp but can't mount onto my internal storage so I installed a micro SD card to do the job thanks though

I never said anything about using internal storage, it is always best to use an extsdcard. We take that to be the standard way of doing it around here, I'm sorry that you didn't understand that by default or that it wasn't obvious to you.
