Sense Previews - HTC Inspire 4G

I've recently started using the stock launcher again, due to a problem of my default home not sticking for some reason. The only thing I really miss is gesture support (zeam, adw), which allowed me to quickly access notifications and previews (to jump to different screens quickly without scrolling). I've mediated my desire to access my notifications quickly, by hitting menu while on a homescreen and tapping notifications (I find this faster and more convenient than pulling it down from the status bar), but I haven't found a way to quickly access previews (other than hitting home when on the default screen). I don't have much use for previews from the default screen since I'm not far away from any other screen. I'm looking for a quick way to access previews so that I can pull them up and jump from screen 1 to screen 7, for example. Long time Sense users, is there a way to do this?

Pinch from any screen.

Yeah you just pinch zoom outwards on any screen to see previews.

Problems/suggestions I have with current HTC Sense

Not quite sure whether this is the exact location something like this should go.. but over time I've just put together a list of some issues I have with the current Sense (Mainly its apps) and changes/additions I'd like to see in further updates.
I'm using HTC Legend unrooted.
Ones with asterisk are more significant.
General
*Ability to select default location on sd card to be used by apps for cache/data storage (so root is not clustered with folders)
*Option to choose whether the long press home button action shows recently used apps or currently running apps - latter could be more useful.
*Built in flashlight app which uses camera flash as a torch (so I don't have to root. Don't see why HTC doesnt have this already.. very practical and useful)
Ability to change timestamp on Footprints. For creating footprints of past events/locations.
When manually selected network becomes unavailable, the screen annoyingly switches to the mobile network list to choose a new one, annoyingly interrupting any current tasks. Will continue to switch back to network list periodically if you ignore it. Show alert in notification bar instead.
Allow selecting/copying of text in sms messages. (select text in long press menu)
Allow manual selection of location for weather (seems to not update location until I'm connected to some form of internet.. even though it can figure it out from GPS/phone network)
Sometimes time on clock widget and notification bar are not synchronized (when traveling between timezones, notification bar has manually selected time of the new location, widget keeps time and weather data of previous location)
360 degree rotate angles (does not go landscape when rotated clockwise)
Interface
*Turning page animation for clock widget, hero has it, looks better (doesn't work on my Legend, seen a Desire where it doesn't turn pages either, must be because of the updated 2.1 version.. defeats the purpose of the page-looking background though)
*When pressing home button or otherwise going back to home screen, have a transition effect where current window minimizes to center of screen with home screen objects coming in from the edges when (like effects in nexus one). Currently the home screen sort of slides in from the side... the minimizing and fading into the centre looks much more appealing
*Nice looking orientation rotate effect when rotating phone (like iphone)
When in pinch zoom out mode on home screen (where you can see small versions of each home screen), allow the dragging and re-arrangement of the order of home screens. (Touchwiz is adding this feature, LauncherPro does I believe, need to keep up with the competition)
Music
Re-do cover art display, there's room to move things and make album art larger, have a nicer looking display with maybe 3D effects, something similar to Itunes Cover Flow
Smooth, fast scrolling through cover art without changing song until actually pressing on album.
When pressing search button in library mode, search all fields not just one currently active.
Music sync capability of htc sync.
Be able to select album art from sd card/search online.
Photo
*Display color gradients better. (currently sometimes shows gradients very badly, rough and obviously ugly, same for picture set as lock screen wallpaper)
*Be able to choose which folders to find media (so it doesnt pick up all the images used by apps etc)
*Be able organize albums e.g. folders within folders.
*Separate videos from photos - have separate tab thing down the bottom, like where it has Albums, Facebook etc, for videos
Better updating when SD contents is modified, takes forever and initially leaves doubles of media and albums, shows nonexistent albums until finished.
Better caching - not show "searching for media" loading notification every time even if the album list had been loaded seconds before. Especially since it does not properly search for and detect new media.
Add option to add folders/search/refresh manually.
Allow creation of custom albums.
Camera
*Easier switch between camcorder and camera like nexus one and iphone camera app with constant visible slide toggle. The slide out options bar is laggy and inconvenient to change between modes.
*Audio record quality in camcorder is terrible - atleast at high volumes. Recording video at a concert and the sound was so distorted it was impossible to distinguish any of the music, while my relatively cheap Powershot camera recorded it fine.. a phone's mic should be better than a camera's right?
*Use volume rocker for zooming in and out (currently does nothing in camera mode), screen swipe zoom is often unresponsive
People
For a contact links, often does not keep selected display name.
Typing in a phone number of a contact in the global search (press search button while on home screen) does not find that contact
Ook thats it for now. I just wanted to put this up to see if anyone had similar ideas/problems, maybe ways to fix certain ones. Also is there any place to suggest this kind of thing directly to HTC? Silly I know, like they'd care about the opinions of one whiny guy, I can imagine how much emails from people begging for things in updates (see user KISS1 on these two threads:

[Q] Hiding Notification Bar

i have asked this on the G1 forum but thought i would ask here.
is it possible to write an application that would hide the notification bar completely and in any application. i know some applications have full screen mode, however some lack this and it would be useful if you would like to view the application in full screen.
The only I know is to get a launcher such as ADW.Launcher, LauncherPro, etc. (almost any launcher has this option). However I am not sure if it will stay fullscreen for all applications, haven't tried.

Unfortunately it doesn't stay full screen. The moment you press menu or open an app that doesn't have a full screen mode the bar reappears.
I have an Aria which has a smaller screen like the g1 so I'm always trying to maximize screen real estate. An app or mod to hide the notification bar even in apps would be really nice. Xscope browser has a completely full screen mode (no notification bar, no address bar, no borders) , which is nice for internet viewing.
Sent from my cm7 Aria.
yeah its true it doesnt stay hidden in certain apps. i have managed to crash the notification bar trying to open the dropdown which made it dissapear but i have to reset my phone to get it back. an ability to stop it and start it again would be beneficial for me as i dont always want it there when in certain apps.

The: BSOL (Black Screen of Life)

Being a G2X user and experimenting with various custom ROMS; most of us are all to familiar with the so called SOD (Sleep of Death), AKA: BSOD (Black Sleep of Death) or (Black Screen of Death).
Regardless of what we choose to call it...
IT SUCKS.
We want Performance, Reliability, & acceptable Battery Life.
Having a Frozen or Locked-Up G2X(Phone)... JUST PLAIN SUCKS.
So to pay respect to the unpleasant/familiar SOD condition, I've decided to have fun with it.
I would like to introduce to you, what I call...
The: BSOL (Black Screen of Life).
I know a few of you were probably thinking (Bull SH!T Outta Luck) Lol
Anyways Here's the concept...
By stacking some of my favorite applications together & theming them.
I've attained a rather pleasant setup that seems to compliment the G2X's lack of RAM & other quirks and various limitations.
Here's the setup and why.
Feel free to use some or all of my settings. (Some will be based on Personal preference.)
My G2X screen loves to turn on as soon as there is a USB connection.
It's just annoying... this setup minimizes the impact.
Were going all Black... “How much more black could it be... None More Black!!!”
Let's start with the launcher.
-Lightning Launcher
I use it because it is light weight on resources, fast, stable, & highly configurable on my G2X.
Under: Customize Lightning> Current screen> Wallpaper & background>
I unchecked: Display the wallpaper & set Plain Color to... BLACK.
Then do the same for the App drawer.
Now over to the status Bar... cleaner is better so.
Remove the battery strength & all I show is: Data, Signal Bars, & Time.
We will load...
-T.E.A.M. Battery Bar for a Top Bar and change the Automatically Color Settings
I use: Green for Charging, Cyan Blue for Regular, Red for Full, Orange for Medium, & Red for low.
Oh I forgot to mention, I like Black therefore I like ICS themes, I use...
-Ice Cream Sandwich CM7 Theme
Lots of CM7 style ICS blue & black... Yum.
Anyways one of the best things about Lightning Launcher is the Drawer.
It can be infinitely Big, or infinitely small, I kinda use both.
You'll see later, but let me also state from a user standpoint I like Gesture swiping.
So we will set a swipe down to open the app drawer & a swipe up to show/hide the status Bar.
But better yet, Let me introduce some of you to...
-Sidebar Lite/Pro
Anyways by swiping from the edge of your screen, you can Always bring up your favorite apps.
Note: even from another application, without having to return to your launcher.
It's slick & once you try it, I doubt you'll ever want to go without it.
(Think of it similarly to the Ubuntu Mobile phone launcher)
Anyways back to the setup.
I'm right handed, so I set my Lightning Launcher's Swipe right to be:
-Fast Dialer
It's kinda Ugly by default, but once you go into settings & change TEXT=CyanBlue & Button/Backgrounds to Black it looks sick.
YES I too find the ads annoying (and wish the developer would release an ad free version) But...
It can be configured so: I can find & dial a contact in 2 clicks
Caveat: If you have so many contacts that start with the same letter you might have to scroll.
CONFUSION/CONFLICT & CLARIFICATION
Yes, BOTH Sidebar & Fast Dialer are configured to launch when swiping right
But... Swiping from the left edge of your screen (AKA edge-swipe) differs from swiping right from anywhere else.
As I said, “I am Right Handed”... So far we have the following.
-Swiping up= Shows or Hides the status bar
-Top screen Edge-swipe down = Shows Notification bar
(Inside I have my favorite Power widgets & Yes they are CyanBlue too)
But I also changed the carrier name to custom, & Inserted: First & Last-name
(I know that my carrier is WIND but having my name personalizes it even further)
-Left screen Edge-swipe right = Sidebar ALWAYS does (Even from another application)
-Swipe right = Fast Dialer (and I can find contact & dial in 2 clicks)
-Swipe down = Launcher drawer (I typically have mine sized to see every icon I have)
I don't need to read them as I know them by icon but if you need to you can zoom in.
Note: it supports pinch zoom in & out, but by hitting your menu button & then selecting Zoom it will toggle between: Fit ALL & Normal Icon Size.
Oh I almost forgot here's one of my favorites, I use...
-Screen Off and Lock
Then after enabling it, I configure Lightning launcher so that when I double click on any blank Spot
-The screen turns off without having to reach for the power button.
In this case it's basically anywhere on the phone. This adds both convenience & prevents your power button from wearing out prematurely.
Almost done.
Under Tablet tweaks inside CyanogenMod tweaks, I disabled the lock-screen.
(Before you crucify me about how insecure this is... I know the risks, thank you for your concern).
Why...???
After I Push the Power Button, the phone is ON. It's all black or if I kept the status bar displayed...
I can see the time & any new notifications... then I double tap & the screen turns off.
VOILA, VERY, Very Slick.
To Finish the Set-up I use...
-Small Call
Why...???
I hate when I'm doing something on my phone & the dialer snaps to the forefront and kicks me out of what I was doing. This incoming call is usually from someone I don't know or even want to talk to.
Small Call let's me continue what I'm doing & in a more subtle manner choose to accept or Ignore calls.
I have a semitransparent black box near the bottom of my screen where I can read texts & click to respond or ignore. You can even set a default decline action.
Clicking the RED X in the box will close the pop-up box yet leave the mail notification as un-read.
Perfect for an angry wife or girlfriend cause you can show them how you never even checked your message... LOL (Just kidding).
Anyways...
That's my setup, & I Like it... hope some or maybe all of these suggestions can improve your G2X.
Time for some screen shots...
Wish me Luck, as I've never posted any before.
Screen shots
Hope this works...

New features in 4.3 and Sense 5.5

I have found a list with new features for the One here. Mostly all apply for the One mini.
New things:
Do Not Disturb, very cool thing that simply sets phone in Do No Disturb mode. You can set for how long and who/to be excluded from it. Turns of sound, notifications and all such things that might disturb. Accessed for the pull down quick settings menu.
Gallery have changed a lot. Albums now have a tiled look much like events, and you can now see your HTC Shares and even delete those (and see how much space there's left there). Video highlights got all new themes, and you can even add your own music.
In Camera Sweep Panorama can now be both landscape or portrait. Camera UI changed a bit, you see text Zoe under the Zoe button. And when you start Camera you see how many photos and minutes video there's left on the phone's storage.
With screen lock active, swipe to the left in the upper right part of the screen. Then you get a + sign where you can add screen lock widgets.
Under Call in Settings you have Phone Notification Preview, which shows you caller ID missed calls on screen lock and status bar.
If you don't want both lock screen and security screen you can disable screen lock (you need a security lock first) under Settings > Security > Bypass lock screen on wake.
Select what kind of notifications you want on lock screen under Settings > Security > Notification Settings. You can select: Phone (shows missing calls), Voice mail, Text messages, Emails and Calendar.
Select if you want Music playback controls on not on your lock screen under Settings > Security > Music Playback
With Developer options active, option Stay awake is now back. Which keeps the display on while charging.
Pull down quick settings menu can now be customized, with up to 12 quick settings.
In Weather app you can now select temperature scale under Settings.
You can add your Google+ account in Blinkfeed.
Disable Blinkfeed by long pressing empty area of a regular screen, then tapping “Blinkfeed on” on the upper left hand corner. Which turns Blinkfeed off.
Under Sleep mode in Settings > Power, you can now set start and end of Sleep mode or have it set as Auto.
With phone turned off: alarms can now turn phone on, then trigger the alarm. And when you dismiss the alarm phone gets turned back to its previous state (off), this is a major thing.
Zoom-bar in camera is hidden, you pinch-zoom to control zooming (zoom-bar is shown when you pinch-zoom).
Connect charger to phone while it's off while show a charging “animation” on the display for a while.
Things different from Sense 5.0, things that are “missing”:
Screen lock option gone from Personalize, there is no settings for any kind of screen lock theme under Settings. You can’t set screen lock theme to “none”, and there is no way to set wallpaper for lock screen since screen lock themes are gone.
T9 layout gone from stock keyboard.
Known bugs:
With Animations turned OFF under Developer options, Share menus and things will simply not work. It affects more than just one thing, so: keep animations ON. So, if you're affected: Set all Animations to 1 and restart phone (that part is important).
In lock screen you can add some widget: swipe to left and click + icon
You can also "personalize" lock screen from settings/security/notification but just for missing calls and sms !
With Sense 5 you can set also email and calendar, the ones that now I miss !!!!
Edit: after some test I'm really disappointed that even with missing calls and SMS notification active they don't came on lock screen but only in notification bar, so this is also a bug !

Oh no! These are two of the features I enjoy most! So, no more weather animations on screen lock at all???

You can still put widgets on lock screen, while on lockscreen swipe to the left in the right top corner. There's also a small arrow, press on the "+" and add a widget but I think it's not possible anymore to add it on the main lockscreen :/ yea I miss a notification system like Apple has. Google should built it in, in android and give the devs the option to add it into there apps like Apple do

Hi,
I'm back to screen lock bug notification win Sense 5.5...
To be sure of this bug, before I contact htc support, can someone do a test ?
It's easy: set the notification for Text Message, go screen off and ask a friend to send a sms to you; when received wakeup screen and check notification if it is only in notification bar or also in lock screen...
Thanks.
Confirmed that text & missed call notiications don't show on lockscreen.
Also, I can only add 1 lockscreen widget it seems - once added, swiping to left again does nothing. Is this by design?
Thanks for confirming the lock screen notifications bug...
Yes, I think only one widget is by design (the widget can occupy all the screen...)

But then can't add any more widget screens to the right? That really sucks. It's always 1 step forward, 2 steps back with HTC ...
Maybe I didn't understood...
In lock screen you can add only 1 widget, but in normal screen you can have many pages with a lot's of widgets...
bug with log screen confirmed, regardless, disabled or enabled in security settings, I can not see notifications for missed calls or messages on lock screen. Can we install some app from the market in order to fix this issue (while waiting for HTC to fix it)?
Another nice new feature is the option to adjust the Automatic Brightness setting - can now set the maximum brightness value, works a bit like iOS.
Also the Music Player widgets now have a blue circle around the play icon to indicate duration of track remaining.
Anyone else finding that the Airplane widget takes you to settings now, instead of toggling Airplane mode? I'm no longer getting the rolling Airplane animation.
Sent from my HTC One mini using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I confirm, it also takes me to settings. As a solution you can set airplane mode in the notification bar toggles.

Hi! I am confirming the bug with missing notifications on lock screen on my One Mini. HTC support had no knowledge about this bug. Are there any work-arounds to get notifications on lock screen? All apps I have found can show notifications on second (swipe right) lock screen only and it does not work for me.
I do not have this bug on my HTC One (not mini) with same Sense version.
Regards!
In gallery, i can :
- make gif from my video
- apply custom effect
---------- Post added at 06:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:02 AM ----------
But somehow, i never can display my gallery content in blinkfeed. Any solution?
For lockscreen notifications i use Nils new floating panel. Really best solution so far. Its still in Beta but working great

I have only 'Phone calls' and 'Text Message' in the security -> notifications. No emails / calendar.
Also wondering if I'm the only one who's music is suddenly stuttering every now and then since 4.3 (more an Android 4.3 thing than a Sense 5.5 thing I guess)

I can confirm this. On BT the music is hanging randomly, this is very annoying. If it's the same with cable, then this is a huge bug.
Reading here there seem to be a lot of down sides to the new 4.3 update. that or it's still in it's early stages of development? I'm still using 4.2.2 and loving it, but was wondering if there was anything major I'm missing by not upgrading?

This is enough for me for an upgrade :good: :good:

[Q] Camera access from lock screen? - EDIT: solved

On my other devices (which run AOSP kitkat roms), I can access my camera with my pattern lock still enabled. All I do is swipe the pattern to the left, and the camera UI opens. It allows me to take new photos, and review them, but doesn't allow me to access any photos that were taken before the screen locked (i.e. it's not a backdoor to get past the lock and look at all my pictures). I always loved this functionality.
On my vzw M8, I cannot replicate this functionality. If I swipe in the same way, I just get a blank page where a widget can be added. Looking through the available widget options, I don't see anything for the camera. I even installed Google Camera just to see if that would make any difference, but no.
I know that the M8's gesture functionality allows something very similar (long-press vol-down while screen is off to launch directly into camera). I'd love to use this, but the gestures are all-or-none. Since I find the other gestures problematic (double-tap to wake, for example), I have all my gestures disabled.
So is there currently a way to replicate the AOSP locked-camera functionality on this device? Or do I simply have to wait for an AOSP rom?
For what it's worth, I'm running Skyfall 1.3
EDIT - story of my life... I figure something out just a few seconds after asking a question, even though I've been trying to figure it out for days.
Turns out I can swipe down (i.e. to hide the pattern lock), which causes the camera icon to appear at the lower-right corner. Then I just need to swipe up on that icon.
Nice work, Byron
Never mind. Didn't read your post close enough I guess. I see you know about the gestures.
