[Q] Archos 101 ROM - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Recently I installed UrkuDroid 0.7 on my Archos 101 but unfortunately didn’t works fine on it by now.., perhaps I did it something wrong but I got a lot of force closes with that version.
I followed every step wrote on first page with normal package UrukDroid_0.7-Install.rar (md5sum: 785fd119d3079d4369e60208cb260c30)
Now I think test Aditional files like UrukDroid-0.7-kernel.tbz2, for see if with it everything works better.
I tried install SetCPU disabling interactive governor in urukconfig and selecting ondemand on SetCPU but without any favorable results for fix force closes.
I await now for UrkuDroid 1.0 Release, because I guess that would be a great ROM, of course better than original ROM.
But until then.., exist some way for install original ROM to Archos 101 again?
I haven’t any copy, (everything was overwritten L )
If someone knows where can I download original ROM, and how can I install it again.
I test downloading firmware from Archos’s page but didn’t works, or I did it something wrong because UrukDroid continues starting.
Thanks in advance.

Froyo for the huawei u8300

Well, it does seem we didn't have to wait that long.
I have just tested the 8500 froyo pre-release on the 8300 and everything works except for the gyro. This means that the screen is always displayed in portrait.
I know, thats not good on a phone designed to display in landscape. But hopefully someone will port the gyro drivers from the 2.6.29 kernel and we'll have a real improvement on our hands! Or someone will find a solution that forces landscape, which is almost as good.
You'll find the instructions on installing froyo here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942971
And rooting here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966624
This is surely a treat!
And if someone has any working solution for the "landscape" problems please let me know on this thread. I'll keep looking for a solution.
/Peter
Edit:
Oh, yeah, forgot one thing. The initial splash screen looks terrible (green background with a blue and red square), so if someone has any idea on how to change that for a nice xda logo or something. I would be most greatful!
Doesn't seem like gps is working either...
/Edit
Well, i can't do any programming. But some things i can acutally improve.
It seems that the keyboard layout that came with the 8500 doesn't match the layout on the 8300.
So here's an updated keyboard layout. Just replace the file named:
qwerty.kcm.bin
located in:
/system/usr/keychars/
With the one attached to this post. Root explorer will (apparently) do that for you. I haven't tried doing it with root exporer (did it with adb). But i have tested the keyboard layout and it works just fine.
Hope that helps anyone!
Please let me know if you have any problems installing replacing the file!
/Peter
Oh yeah, almost forgot, adw launcher lets you set the layout (portrait) of your desktop screens. Thats at least a little help.
edit
Forgot again... The source for 8500 is available on the huawei download site.
http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwi...d=list&flay=software&directoryId=20&treeId=0#
/edit
I flashed this rom, had alot of trouble with phone connection and such
did a nand backup using recovery-RA-pulsemini-v1.6.2.img reflashed my Boost stock updata.app then restored the nand backup, everything is working great and i have the Boost mobile splash instead of the odd one, didn't fix the gyro though
edit: GPS seems to be working fine, so fixing the gyro or a locked landscape mode is the only bug left.
I'll be following this thread very closely, with any results I get I'll be sharing them here.
I can't seem to get USB debug to work, it's either a CD emulator with the Huawei device programs or mounting the SD card. Anyone else having this issue, or is there a workaround?
OK, some progress; I've just rooted using z4root (sideload) and it appears to be working - Just backed up apps and settings with Titanium Backup.
I just downloaded the stock U8300 so now I've got something to fall back on in case of emergency. It's not listed on the Huawei website though.
So now forwards, to Froyo!
Current progress:
Downloaded U8500 Froyo ROM and installed as per instructions above, twice.
Rooted with Z4Root installed from my SD card.
Had trouble trying to get the keyboard settings over; I tried using Ghost Commander to copy it into place with root access without success. Any other options, lugiber?
I'm not really interested in using Android Dev programs, nor buying apps... is it possible to use terminal commands to copy it into place instead?
Still got the sideways screen issue as expected. GPS works, Wifi works, gyro and compass work somewhat (even the original U8300 caused some issues with North to the 'right' of the phone ie 90degrees off).
google root explorer apk download it to your sd card, install it and just remember to mount the file system as rw, theres a button at the top in root explorer then copy it over
Hmmm, no dice.
Clicked 'mount R/W' but still said /system/usr/keychrs directory didn't have permissions, tried editing manually which didn't apply either.
Are there any other similar ROMs (eg CM6 or the like) that may also be closely compatible? i can put up with the keyboard until I get the screen rotate working, and I read somewhere that some has done so... I'll get back if it works.
I just received and email from Huawei saying they have now released the source code for the U8300 on their website!! It's the eclair kernel, I presume; I haven't downloaded it to check yet.
They also have the 'Normal' (presumably generic) Froyo source code there too, if that is useful to anyone.

Hello,
I am interested too in landscape mode.
But I am more interested in speed: is it faster than stock firmware?

cyanogenmod 7.1 rc1 out for gtablet!!!

Just a fyi... I can't wait to give it a try.
Link

I can't wait either...seriously, I'm downloading it right now. I'm going to try flashing it over CM 7.0.3 stable with just a cache and dalvik wipe. Hopefully that won't be a problem.
UPDATE: After a few initial hiccups (probably due to only doing a cache/dalvik cache wipe instead of a full wipe and having ADW Ex in the /system/app folder instead of the /data/app folder) everything seems to running well. Sound didn't work initially due to the new DSP Manager being installed, but I replaced it with the one I pulled from CM 7.0.3 and now it's working fine. I'll attach the CM 7.0.3 stable DSPManager.apk for anyone who doesn't want to go through the hassle of pulling it from a previous build themselves (uninstall the version that comes with it, move it to /system/app using root explorer, then reboot and sound should work again).
I won't be able to try it out until this afternoon. I think I will just start with a full wipe and rule out any possible issues from kushdesk's rom.
Let me know how its working. Any luck with P vs Z?

Yeah, I'd definitely do a full wipe coming from another ROM. From what I can tell, it seems pretty similar to CM 7.0.3; a few changes in the CM Settings menu and obviously the update to 2.3.4, but other than that I don't really notice any differences. Everything that was working in CM 7.0.3 seems to be working in 7.1 RC1 (other than the DSP Manager, which needed to be replaced with an earlier version to fix the sound). I don't have Plants vs. Zombies installed, so I can't tell you about that. Angry Birds is working fine, though.
Anyone happen to know the process for installing this on 1.2 bootloader? I'm currently running CM7.0.3 from this thread, specifically the one with the Pershoot 1.4ghz Kernel (bootloader 1.2) built in.
Sorry for the noobishness, I am a noob after all, lol.
Does HW acceleration work?
does 720 video work?
any gameloft games work? pvz? any other games?
Does does rom read external sd cards?
so this is only 1.1 bl? could i just repackage with 1.2 kernal and boot?

No.
Not sure.
PVZ and peggle work but only for a short period of time before they lock up... disappointing!
It has and still does read my extra SD card.
On cyanogenmod website, it is only for 1.1 but I'm pretty sure it has been ported to 1.2 if you look around on here a bit.

[HOWTO] Timat 1.1 to 3.2 rooted *US WIFI ONLY*

It took me forever to find this in the various threads in the development section so decided to post this for anyone who needs it.
Note: I have not *discovered* this, invented it or just made it work by luck. All
credit goes to the developers and early adopters who share their knowledge and
know how. These are just basic steps that is all.
Excuse the little influence I am picking up from the original thread.
#1 This post assumes the following:
a) You are on Timat 1.1
b) You have CWM installed (no reason you shouldn't have it installed if you are already on Timat)
c) You have downloaded the appropriate update file form this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165998
d) You have some basic flashing experience
#2 What needs to be done:
a) Download the file to your SDCARD downloaded from the above stated thread and rename it to update.zip (thought I didn't and it worked fine for me).
b) Reboot into recovery
c) Flash wipe / factory defaults
d) Go to advance and also wipe dalvik cache
e) Flash the above zip file
That is all. If you follow the above steps you should fine. I cannot stress this
enough please please do not restore data back ups from Titanium. Apps are fine.
At best its a hit or a miss so I would strongly advise against it.
Optional #1
You can also flash the new Timat Kernel once you finish flashing 3.2. For all the over clock goodness. Follow steps mentioned in the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978013
Optional #2
To enable display of all apps in the market you can follow this thread which works perfectly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168508
All credit goes to original OP's
This post is a mere guideline nothing else.
I hope this thread helps people. Once again I do not take credit for any of this.
PS: One last thing all the steps mentioned above have been tested by me and I have a perfectly working XOOM on 3.2 Rooted and @ 1.2Ghz.
Cheers.
This also works on stock 1.1 running tiamat 1.4. Thanks dude!
Excellent thread. These are the same steps that I followed, and it worked for me, without a hitch. Fwiw : this is the standard protocol that I follow on my Incredible, and Thunderbolt when flashing new roms, or major updates to roms. It always works, without fail. After a while, one gets pretty efficient at restoring everything. TB can create more problems than it solves. Congratulations to OP for a well written post, that's easy to follow.
Thanks bro, great write up.... answered a few of my questions.
thank you bro this is an Excellent thread i followed the steps to update my xoom
Is there any reason that this update process would NOT work if I was on the Tiamat 1.0 ROM (with the 1.4.4 Full_Throttle kernal)? I got sidetracked for the last couple of weeks and as I was getting ready to update to 1.1, I saw that 3.2 had dropped. Seems like it should work as well as it does for 1.1. Any obvious concerns?? TIA.
TBH I don't see any reason why it shouldn't.
Best to do a nandroid back up and have a go at it. Let us know how it goes.
Cheers
3.1 and tiamat 1.4.4
Help for a newbie.
I followed this procedure:
1 - Copied file to sd card and renamed to update.zip (in a windows computer)
2 - turned xoom on and wento to rom manager
3 - wiped user and dalvik cache
4 - Tried to load file from zip, but it was not possible to find the update .zip file.
After many trials rebooted.
System info showed the same 3.1 and Tiamamat 1.4.4
Opened rom manager again.
seleced install rom from sdcard
System backed up info and rebooted.
Had to reload all apps from store.
System info shows I am running 3.1 and Tiamat 1.4.4.
Also I keep receiving a message that there is a system update available.
I can't understand what I did wrong.
Can anyone help?
Thank you
how can i do this with 3g zoom

[Q] automatic reboot after lock up ALWAYS

Hello.
I´m new owner of Xoom "refurbished by motorola" bought on Don´tRetail.
With serie rom, updated by OTA to 3.2, all run perfectly. Enough smooth and run, but Quadrant give me a poor results (1700 points).
After unlock, flash recovery clothwork (3.2.0.0 rc4), I flash tiamat roms (2.0, updated 2.01, and later 2.1 hammerhead).
In all this scenaries, when just flash the new rom, work correctly, but when I installa any application...oh oh...
...when I press power button to suspend it, after eight second Xoom automatic reboot.
I back to stock status (reflash serie rom, serie recovery...all serie) and xoom work correctly.
when I reflash to use another time Tiamat´s rom...here is the problem...when I installed any application, if I suspend Xoom reboot automatically after eight second.
If I plug xoom to pc, and in "cmd terminal" I made:
adb logcat
I can suspend xoom without it reboot.
I tried to elevate minimal frecuencyes in setcpu, but same results.
I tried to do a logcat > logcat.txt in terminal emulator, and suspend the xoom...same result...reboot after eight second.
Any sygestions for I can use Tiamat roms???? With stock rom I have 1700 point in quadrant...with Tiamat without overclock (my xoom don´t let me overclock ) I have 2800 points.
A lot of thanks....Im so frustrated
Ok, I am just asking this to make sure I am 100% clear with this story.
Everytime you do an image with no apps and you shut down, the Xoom doesn't restart, but when you download applications it does... If this is so, I would suggest that you list the applications that you put on your tablet when it does restart, because to me, it sounds like it is an application that is bugging out on the Xoom.
Android systems are set up to force a restart if there are too many system resources being chewed up by applications that are a "High Priority" status and this causes a system resource lock up, and unfortunately, the only way to fix that is to force restart the system. IF it is a app that is doing it, all you need to do is make sure that app is not running to allow it to do so. Good ways of finding out is to use Titanium Backup (Marketplace) to freeze the apps (but that is only for a paid version...) or as someone else just previously suggested in another forum post is Autorun Manager where it allows you to freeze applications from starting up.
I would also suggest that you use the LogCat function in the SDK Tools that is stored in DDMS (aka ddms.bat located in the SDK TOOLS Section). This little program will allow you to do LogCat on your computer as well as save the log as a txt to upload to us (or for easy copy and paste) and as well as allows you to take screen shots and so forth. This might help you out finding the problem too as well as help us
So could you please give us these details to help you out even more?
Is this a Wi-fi only or 3g model that you bought?
Current Rom and Kernel (if I am wrong on the next two posts)
~Guess on Rom is: 2.1 hammerhead
~Guess on Kernal is: (I did not see where you said what the current Kernel was...)
Current Application List that Forces the Xoom to kill itself and reboot, even if it is just one... it might allow us to help you obtain a compatibility issue (if others are having the trouble with the same applications)
You had this trouble after you flashed the new ROMs, are the correct version? (aka Wi-fi only vs 3g romsm, cause there are 3g roms for Tiamat)
Did you clear the cache before and/or after you put the new ROMs on?
I hope we can get this resolved as soon as possible for you!
(links)
to get DDMS if you do not have it yet, please go here -- http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html -- and you will be able to get step by step walk through to get the SDK. You will need to launch in Terminal/Command Prompt (depending on the Computer Operating System that you use.)
Firts...a lot of thanks for your answer.
With original-stock rom all work all right. My machines arrived with 3.1 Honeycomb, and via OTA updated to 3.2 (HTJ85B).
With this roms, all work correctly. I installed a lot aplications and work allright. I root this rom, and all are working well.
If I try to install any rom from Tiamat, doing previous wipe, the rom runs perfect. I install Titanium to reinstall all my aplications, and all work well. I can work about hours without problems...but with this roms (with all tiamat´s kernel and launpad kernel...) in the moment I suspend, after 8 or 9 second the tablet reboot automatically.
I tried to do a clean install, and only install one aplication, like flash player...and all are ok. After it, install another one, and after it another...but at tirth or fourth there is the problem another time...and tried with diferent aplications. Sometimes the problem go after install flasplayer, sometimes after install RepliGo, sometimes after install dolphinHd...
The more stranger thing is that if a plug the tablet to pc, and make a "adb logcat"...if I suspend de tablet...no problem, no reboot.
It´s possible that mi gpu aren´t righ? I say this because I guess that when the system go suspend, the gpu frecuencies go down (or gpu voltajes) and this made machine reboot... and it´s possible with tiamat´s kernel voltajes and/or frecuencies GPU are diferent than in stock rom.
It´s possible flash a tiamat rom without customiced kernel??? If I could try a tiamat with stock kernel, or with gpu without variation in voltajes or frecuencies.
NOTE: sorry for my english

I would actually ask if you have your wifi set to go off when the screen is off. This is a known issue...unless the wifi sleep policy is set to Never, the Xoom may reboot when the screen is off. It could be as simple as that.
Oh oh...so many probes that I don´t Know if I change wifi policy or not
But I remember dont change this between flash and install all apks.
At this weekend I´ll probe it and say you, now I need stable tablet to work.
A lot of thanks.

[ROM] Huawei U8150 LEANdroidMOD 6 final.

Hi,
I have been in contact with Bertans through his LEANdroid thread and through private message and we have been working on a bit of a mod for LEANdroid. Basically people want OC/UC and the rest of the goodness from other roms.
It is a mod of LEANdroid 11.10.2 and has a few extra bits over and above that rom. Now has a kernel custom compiled by me from aorth's kernel source.
Includes:
LEANdroidMOD_6
-2.2.2 Thailand rom base, newer and has the mystical .2 instead of .1!
-NOMA kernel from before
-Custom Ubuntu and Jura fonts because they look better than the ugly android ones
-Not compatible with previous 2.2.1 releases (up to LDM 5)
-This is for testing, not sure if it is compelling enough as an upgrade over LDM5 as I am going to include fonts in LDM 5 too.
-Still has old market, but it will auto update, may update it in a future release.
-Has XDA anti malware patch set up in installer.
LEANdroidMOD_5
-Custom kernel based of NOMA source
-Very custom smartass cpu profile setup, seems fast and battery efficient
-24/12/12, now has Ubuntu and Jura fonts and XDA anti malware patch in installer
-Otherwise similar to before
Previous
-Android 2.2.1+ LEANdroid 11.10.2+
-OC/UC 30mhz to 691mhz. Defaults to 30mhz and 600mhz- Fusion Kernel.
-Smartass and interactive governers. Default is ondemand.
-164MB free space.
-Some custom sounds.
-Fusion kernel 122mhz and 600mhz by default.
-Busybox
-NOfrills cpu control installed by default.
-Tweaked memory management
Everything that worked on LEANdroid should still work up to LDM 5 but it has a more spicy kernel and a few more tweaks. Please backup first as I cant be responsible if it doesn't work or you lose stuff. As these builds are just LEANdroid with a different kernel and a tweak or two, you should be able to get away with just flashing it over your existing LEANdroid install and just wipe cache and dalvic cache.

Looks Good!
Great job - I'm excited - will try tomorrow. What keyboard and launcher is this running?
I will try it (I am excited about it).
Still dun understand why everyone say about abd driver in install procedure when all is done on phone and phone sdcard.
Is running standard android keyboard and launcher pro just like LEANdroid.
Think the adb part is just to get clockwork mod on there. You can also use rom manager if you want, although that seemed to be playing up last time I installed it. if you play a bit more you can also use fastboot, but I have not tried that yet. Im still running CWM 3 installed ages ago using rom manager.
Any idea how to get extended "Phone options" when i press power button.
Like reboot, etc not just the 3: Silent, Airplane, Power Off ??
Thx.
It is something to do with custom frameworks. Have not explored that much as yet. Trying to get the kernel good and fast for a start and then can look at custom looks for later.
Hangs at Android logo
I had just finished flashing LeanDroid when I noticed your (what I like to call) "LeanDroid on Steroids" (on Steroids due to being overclocked). I had been thinking if I were to right a ROM, this would be it...so...I was jazzed. I spent all day trying things over and over and can't get it installed. It just hangs at the "Android" screen. I had to install something so went back to regular LeanDroid and installed it again with no problems. I did everything you suggested including the wipe and the new CWM to no avail. Did anybody else get it installed?
Oh, ok... interesting. will have to do a wipe and flash and see what is going on at some stage. Have been developing it as I go on my phone, so possibly it works as I have been flashing kernels and such over existing builds.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Does CWM give any errors with installing?
Im guessing you are reasonable experienced with flashing, but how long did you leave it for on the android screen?
is this the android animation screen or the boot splash?
Does the MD5 hash match?
Thanks for helping test this, hopefully can get some more info and testing done to work out what is going on here.
heh, just flashed it from fresh and no dice, boot loop. trying to suss it now.
Going to upload a more basic build which is just leandroid+ kernel. Just tested on fresh install and it boots fine. Link will be updated in the first post.
Paul
Ok, take 2... try the new mod which is in the original post. It is straight LEANdroid+fusion kernel.
CWM gives no errors. Not heavy enough to know the meaning of "MD5 hash match" but also not fresh out of the box; I gave it at least 5 minutes on the "Android" screen (don't know if that's called the animation or boot splash); regular LeanDroid takes almost exactly 2 minutes so I thought 5 should be long enough. Will try the new one now. If doesn't work it will take me a little while to get back to you about it because I'll have to reinstall a working ROM so I can connect and reply. Here goes.
PS: I'm not doing this for fun; I just wanted a fast & lean ROM because I found myself demanding a lot of my little IDEOS and she was getting intolerably slow...am I'm really exhausted from trying to come up to speed on all this over the last few weeks...so...I want to be finished with this now...so...when you do any future updates (in gratitude for my help ) if it's even possible, could you please make sure it catches this LEANdroidMOD_2 so I don't have to do anything else to have your final version? I'd really appreciate it. Here goes. I'll let you know what happens.
OK. It loaded. Took 2 minutes just like plain LeanDroid. I went straight to the app drawer to play with NoFrills but it's not there. I realize you probably "lightened" this one as a troubleshooting tool to get her working. I just installed NoFrills and it does offer the 691MHz of the custom kernel. Sorry for asking you to educate me but:
1. Is it very advantageous to have NoFrills (or any desired apps) built in to the ROM instead of installed separately and if so, why?
2. Should I go 691, 122, ondemand, & deadline or what?
3. Should wait before I start heavily customizing my homescreens with postits, etc. because this prelim version won't be updated?
4. Is there a way to update to a more final version without losing my homepage customizations?
Thanks for the (I say best) ROM and any educating you give.
Hey Paulynator, thanks for your patience. Leandroidmod_2 was a very quick build to get things moving as I had to build something to get my phone working after the first rom didn't boot in testing! Will upload another build with busybox by default and a couple of small mods today. Problem came from data/app, so ditched that and put apps into /system/app.
Questions:
1)Not really, I just like it, others may prefer setcpu or something else instead.
2)You go with what you feel happy and doesnt crash your phone, try 652 and 60 first, then go higher and lower if it is working fine. Just leave apply on boot unchecked in nofrills until everything is working fine. Ondemand and deadline will be fine.
3)Updates should be able to be installed without a wipe.
4)Just install zip in CWM over your install, sorry, I cant promise anything though.
Thanks
Paul
Ok, take 3. everything from 2+busybox and some custom bits. Tested on my phone and it boots fine with a total wipe. Hopefully wont need to do a total wipe, but have not tested flashing over an existing install.
For question #1, I didn't mean NoFrills as opposed to SetCPU or something else; I'm asking if it's very advantageous to have desired apps built in to the ROM instead of installed separately and if so, why?
Paul,
Report on LEANdroidMOD_3 (a.k.a. LeanDroidOnSteroids, c'mon, it rhymes!) (or even "cleaner": SteroidLeanDroid. If I say so myself, awesome title for an awesome ROM...to me.)
Installed over version #2 w/o wipe seems to be ok...to the extent that I started the process of recluttering (restoring) my Ideos as though "she's a keeper", i.e. no more wiping; the records stay intact from now on.

Sorry to hit you with 3 since your last but since we have a "hard"/permanent Home button right below the screen, is the redundant one at the bottom of the app drawer removable from a menu or would I have to mod the rom to remove it?

Doesnt matter one way or the other, I just liked it built in. Only possible advantage is that some apps in /system/app wont use space in /data/app, but this is lost the moment you update them as updates seem to install into /data/app. So my Leandroid with nofrills in /system/app still gives 164mb free space in data partition until things get updated.
Good work, thanks for the update that it can be installed over a previous install.
Home button is part of launcher pro. on the home screen, hit menu>preferences>appearance settings>uncheck home button on app drawer.

Just found a possible glitch. Don't know if it's the ROM so tried the obvious things to no avail. The camera app (any camera app; I tested the problem by downloading and trying others) won't access the gallery. In the stock app, the little preview window (that tapping opens the picture in the main window) won't open the picture. It gives an error message saying "app initialize failed. please download the app from the market". The app isn't in the market so I d/l'd 2 other camera apps and they both did the same. Using Root Explorer to try to open a picture also wouldn't work. Could you please try to access the gallery on a phone you've installed your ROM on and let me know if it works? I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Works fine on mine. Try go to the market and update Quickpic. It does not like being in /system/app so if you update it, it should work. It was one of the reasons I tried to put it in a data/app from the start, but that caused bigger problems like the rom not booting.
I could also put the stock gallery back in alongside quickpic if needed but it does not have multitouch.
