Anyone know anything about VSkins - Fascinate Accessories

I was wondering how durable they are? do they offer any protection or is it basically like your phone is "naked" but has a design. Scratch resistant, basically just want a review of it. Couldn't find it anywhere online or here. Thanks!

They just provide minimal protection from scratches. Basically a thick sticker. The do add a little grip to the phone though.

thanks dont know if its worth 20 bucks to find out if i like it.

I've got the matte coating of this on my phone:

I really like it, it protects from scratches really well, I don't use the front sticker though

Tempered glass - Otterbox Commuter

I'm wondering about the match of these two together... around the edges. Being an epileptic I really don't prefer the thinnest possible glass as it's not only dropping the phone I'm worried about. Epilepsy is kind of an "uncontrolled breakdance disease" so phone abuse might be more violent than just a regular drop in the pavement. But what glass thickness will an Otterbox Commuter allow around the edges... if it actually goes far enough over the phone's edges to reach the tempered glass. (I don't know that either, since I haven't bought the case yet.)
Are there any experiences out there? Thickness suggestions? Maybe suggestions of glass covers if it's a "some will and some won't" issue?
Berthaconners524 said:
I have the commuter, and a regular "non-glass" screen protector. I've been doing a lot of reading about the glass, and the general consensus is that it does break with wear, usually pretty easily. I have a friend at work whose daughter has epilepsy, and I understand your concern. Best of luck to you, dear.

Everything breaks with wear. That's one of the things we can't get around. But I do think that a tempered glass layer has more to offer than the thin plastic film when it comes to abuse that's worse than keys and coins... and even if the hit breaks the screen protector, chance is still good that the phone's display will be intact.
Not to forget the bonus that comes with a glass protector... a glass display feels much nicer.
Berthaconners524 said:
I understand that all things do break with wear, but I suppose I cannot comment on the aesthetic of the glass, as I've never tried it yet. But I guess I just like my piece of plastic. I have no complaints. But I might be an exception, and I'm fine with that.

I'm not the picky type myself. I have no problem enjoying my phone like it is today, with a (cheap) fingerprint attracting and bubbly plastic protector. The extra protection is all that I'm after... and if the glass protector comes with a nicer feeling, I just have to live with it. :silly:
I've seen somebody with this combo before. It actually fit nicely. He was using a bodyguards protector I think. Whatever one they sell at the AT&T store.

Cases and Screen Protectors

I just ordered my new Moto X 2014, I'm actually getting it for free to replace my old Moto X.
What are some good case and screen protector combinations? I know in the past I've had some trouble with a case AND a screen protector, it's sometimes one or the other. I'd prefer a clear case, but I'll probably end up getting more than 1 anyways.

Just got mine as well here is what I have found so far:
All tempered glass is a waste of money for this model none if it fits right at all due to the rounded edges
I would ASSUME the older plastic style ones MIGHT work better but read they also dont work that well
Most cases that say they are clear are actually frosted and that for me defeats the purpose of customizing the back
So I am going naked screen and hula case and will carry the phone in a belt pouch. Not the perfect solution but for me its acceptable. I would have preferred a strong clear tpu case (most turn yellow), I dont want a hard case, and would have love tempered glass on this but they simply dont adhere correctly.
There you have it the sad but true facts about cases and screen protectors from the research I have done. Hopefully some others in here can give you better news

I don't mind a hard case and not a fan of the glass screen protectors. I like the film ones. My last film protector made it a matte screen and took the glare away. It was fantastic! And it worked with the case. But it's the only smartphone that I've had where screen protector AND case can be used.

It's either going to be the Gelli Black Frost case or the Hula Bumper case initially. I'm getting one of those for free if I buy a screen protector, which I was going to do anyways.
I just can't get anyone to tell me what one of those cases, if any, work with a screen protector. I've been trying to get someone to answer this question for 2-3 days now. Nobody on earth knows! lol

I have the hula bumper case and i can't see any reason it would interfere at all with a screen protector. When I tried my glass protector it was in combination with the hula. Honestly thought most screen protectors are so think that they can be used with almost any case.

The glass is usually cut thinner, the film isn't always cut thinner and I've had instances where the cases would peel up the edges of the film. How did you like you Hula?

I love the look, not sure it would truly give a huge amount of protection but should protect the edges of the glass on the screen which i read is the most vulnerable part of the phone. It does have a little but of movement when you hold the phone (aka wiggles slightly) but it also adds more grip, i have a plastic backed phone.. Those damn beveled edges, nice concept, nightmare in reality. They are why no glass or other screen protector will truly fit right.

When holding or using the phone its fine. I am also extremely OCD and when it moves/wiggles is like when you just tap the side with your finger you can feel it move very slightly, very slight;y but for me noticeable, but not enough to get rid of the case just makes the phone look awesome.

Also if you can order the hula from case mate rather then moto as moto charges an extra $5 shipping. They are also at times very hard to find in stock anywhere depending on the color you want.

I really like the way that looks. My phone is Royal Blue, White Front, and Red Trim. So it's between a white or red hula case, or the gelli case. I'm leaning towards the Hula for more everyday use I think, and buying another case from amazon for when i need more protection. Or buying the hula and getting a good protecting case from moto's website
I have a coupon code from Moto for $25 off, so Im buying the screen protector and I basically get any case for free.

I have the Hulu and the Trident Aegis. The plastic on the Hulu cracked at the USB port area (from bending when removed or put on), but it doesn't effect the case
I've been using the Hula bumper and Power Support Brilliant Film screen protector. The edge of the case doesn't contact the screen protector so it doesn't peel.

Weird question, but do you think there's enough give with the Hula case where it would fit around the Moto X in a thin TPU case? I like the TPU cases but worry about the protection or lack thereof. Just wondering if it'd be possible to use them and occasional put the Hula Case around them for extra protection. Of course the buttons probably wouldn't work then...

You wont be able to use the two together, to much of a lip on the back with the hula case. Even if you did somehow fit it on the tpu would never touch the back of the phone just the lip around the edge. TPU will likely give more protection then hula but hula will likely give more grip then a tpu case.
New to the X, is it worth while getting a screen protector? Case is on its way, but with Gorilla Glass 3, is it truly worth the extra to cover the screen? Probably will end up with one but wanted some other opinions!

That is completely up to you but I can tell you this based on my research and personal experience:
There is not a tempered glass screen protector on the market for the 2014 that adheres properly. Not one of them works well and thus dont bother with those. The 2014 tapered edges on the glass are the issue. I have HEARD of similar issues with PET style screen protectors but never messed with those as they never felt right to me.
Lastly everything I have read says those tapered edges o the glas DO make it more prone to crack or brake on a drop so you need SOMETHING to protect the glass edges. Full case, hula bumper, something....

A lot of the cracking that people report is from dropping their phones, not taking the Hula on and off. The Hula is designed to absorb the shock of a drop and it breaks so that the phone does not. Better that your $20 bumper break than your $600 phone.
I take my Hula off and on all of the time and it has never cracked. I think people are dropping their phones and the Hula is doing exactly what it is supposed to do - absorbing the shock, which can result in it cracking instead of your phone.

Case for a phone with removable back???

Alright guys I need some help understanding why people are buying cases for this phone.
First of all, it is supposed to be more durable than other phones, which mitigates the risk of dents and chips from accidental falling.
Additionally, this is a phone with removable back and replaceable battery! I thought people buy this phone so they can easily swap out battery and get additional use time, but you cover it up with a case??? Which makes it a lot harder to swap and you have to constantly remove the case for each swap.
What's the purpose of all this???
The only case type that I would think would be a pain to remove would be an otter box type case where it has a front and a back.
Any case that just covers back and sides should be pretty quick to remove. I'm thinking of getting a UAG case when they are available.
Most of the cases people have been getting so far seem easy enough to pull off quickly for a battery swap.
Sent from my pretty nifty brand new LG V10
Don't forget the steel bars are scratch prone (ouch!!!)
Cases are designed to protect against the unexpected...and marketing hype. A Gorilla glass 4 screen will scratch and shatter. The marketing hype is both from companies like Corning and the screen protector/case manufacturers. If protection levels were truly high enough- manufacturers would offer replacement/repair guarantees, similar to the Droid Turbo 2"s screen guarantee. Most manufacturers user guides recommend protecting their devices.
Another obvious example is water damage- which can take place well short of immersion.
Luck and common sense are your best forms of protection- and sometimes both are in short supply.
I like the extra padding of a thin TPU case no matter how durable LG claims this phone is, it's a peace of mind thing. I am however disappointed in how easily the screen scratches. I received a tempered glass protector yesterday and when I cleaned the screen I was surprised by all the micro scratches. My Note 4 by comparison had only 1 noticeable scratch after a year unprotected.

Any type of glass scratches easy. Dust, dirt, keys, any direct contact with hard surfaces will and can scratch the glass, and dropping your phone any any hard surface will scratch the glass. The people that don't notice the scratches must have bad eye sight. Gorilla glass is only damage resistant (not proof) go check the web site for yourself.

I find the Obliq TPU case to be the best for this, soft, easy to remove, while adding great protection. I also have the Verus Shield, It's more difficult to remove / put back on.
In my situation, i dont buy cases for my own sake...i buy them cause i always sell them when i get a new device. A phone in mint condition is a lot easier to sell...that being said, this might be the first phone i can remember that i am not getting a case for.
The phone is massive and i dont want to add anymore bulk whatsoever.
A thin, few tenths of a mm thick, tpu case and a cheapo glass screen protector is all you really need to protect a phone. All together will cost $15 at most. It's a small investment that will go a long way

Agree, the obliq is a very nice case. Really doesn't add too much bulk to the phone, has a nice grippy feel. The sides aren't as snug as I would like, though. Apparently Obliq is releasing a new batch of cases today with a tighter fit.

Has anyone tried the Spigen Glas.tr Nano Liquid?

https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Glas-...1534307997&sr=8-1&keywords=spigen+nano+liquid
Hi guys, I am thinking of applying this liquid protector, but wanted to check if any of you had any experience with it. I think that if it works, then it solves the issue of the screen curves and case compatibility. I am also very curious about applying it to the back. This combined with the Rhinoshield bumper could be awesome.
I didn't try it, i only saw videos, but tbh i don't think it's that good, i mean it wont be as good as a screend protector , maybe for scratches but the phone is already a GG5 but for falls and brakes i don't think it will protect it as good as a glass but maybe i'm wrong
lol, that liquid is a big scam.... it might help against fingerprints but not against damage.
I would be very interested if it protected from scratches, as I mentioned earlier my pkan is to use it in combination with a Crashguard so the phone is protected from drops. Other option is the back protector from Rhinoshield but reviews say that it feels weird
Snake oil.
I tried the Spigen version and I can say that inspite of it being applied to my screen according to instructions, I got some minor scratches from simple daily use. Nothing to freak out about, but enough to send me running to buy a proper screen protector.
I have been using something similar and cheaper from Aliexpress for the last 7 years. It does work i. e. prevent from scratches. It's a chemical that basically modifies the composition of the glass (don't remember all the sio2 chemistry) . It will not protect screen from falls but will definitely help with everyday scratches. Try from Aliexpress for $2 rather than outrageous Spigen price. If you don't like it, you only wasted $2.
It's liquid crystals which dry after being applied and form an additional layer on top of the glass, in most cases fusing with the glass below.
And that layer can get scratched, resulting in a scratch like any other ( which can't be removed ).
If you don't want scratches on your screen and don't want to risk it getting shattered, tempered glass is the only solution. If you only want scratch protection, though, get a soft screen protector ( or keep the one that comes pre-applied ).
Im very doubtful this does anything more then provide some finger print protection, it cant make it any harder. Corning and Asahi do some pretty insane stuff to make there glass hard and tough, i.e. hot, potassium-salt, ion-exchange bath for corning , I think Asahi use molten metal maybe tin.
If it was a simple as pouring a liquid on the screen you can be sure they would be doing it imo
I brought it for fingerprint protector and it did nothing, even though I'd followed the instructions. Ended up asking for my money back. My advice is don't bother and just got for this instead - https://orzly.com/collections/onepl...lass-screen-protector-for-oneplus-6-twin-pack
Hi
I have bought a OP 7pro second hand and the previous user had applied a liquid protector, I know that this is at least fake protection, so my question is, can I install a normal tempered glass on top?

Accessories Does the X3 Pro need a tempered glass?

I kinda want to get mine removed cuz the fit is weird (sides are not fully covered) and just use it as it is. Is it fine or will it get easily scratched?

gorilla glass is an extremely shatter/scratch resistant glass.... I've had htc e8, redmi 5+ fell from at least 1m, they were still good, for my xiaomi phones i usually use the included case for added protection.... you can also use flip cases which will protect the whole phone... there are very nice flip/wallet cases for pocox3...
anyway...here's a picture of my screen after 4-5 months of usage without any screen protector.. no scratches yet, ignore the dust... your experience may vary xD
Anyone else using phone without protection glass, is it smooth without it ?
Factory protection is plastic, if I remember correctly. It gives pretty bad feel. Uncovered screen is smooth and nice to touch.
I just use the ringke fusionx camo case, no tempered glass. Tempered glass is kind of gimmicky, I never would use a cheapo $2 to $5 screen protection. As I paid for gorilla glass 6 and also love it's clarity and feel which no cheap tempered glass can provide me. Anyways, gorilla glass is quite tough and I use my phone carefully like a gentleman! I even use the ringke camp case because I like its look, and also it is military grade certified. Moreover, we use our phone for 2-5years only, after that is just a sandwich! So, why not use it in its true glory!
is up to personal preference to get protector or not
i use hydrogel protector, i have a bulky casing already so yea...
Thanks for the input, I removed my tempered glass now and it looks and feels better. Another question is how do you guys clean your screen? Do you guys use alcohol/water?
Never use alcohol to clean phone lcd screens, it can damage oleophobic coating.
And yes i agree the factory screen protector that comes with this phone is utter trash, remove it ASAP. Phone feels much better without it, both in terms of display quality and just general touch feel. If this is really Gorilla Glass then you shouldn't worry too much about scratching it. (i wouldn't trust Xiaomi on anything though lol)

Thank god it doesn't make your semen go in reverse.
And it does yours? Good for you!
Now, let's get bact to the topic at hand, or you feel too childish to let this one go?
Also, to be on track... yes, every phone should have a tempered glass protection. Why? Well you can scratch any type of glass, be it with keys, a knife or any other piece of one's EDC carry stuff. I'd rather tempered glass gets scratched, instead of phone screen. Common sense, really. Using something that costs 2$ to protect something costing near 300$...
the question is absurd: Of course every mobile that is in use needs a display protection ...
I dont use one (and yes i removed the factory protection aswell) for over a year now and there isnt a one scratch on a screen. And mind you i use it mostly for road bike navigation outdoors - public roads, woods, mud and so on it's not just laying on a desk. You have top notch Gorilla Glass protection and it works, why replace it with cheap poor quality $2 piece of plastic with poor feel which also distorts the screen colors and possibly touch inputs?
But whatever floats your boat.
For me, the only advantage of a screen protector is that I can replace it within a few minutes once the oleophobic coating is gone. I find it disgusting to constantly have a greasy film on the glass. I use book cases with every phone, so scratching the display can actually be almost ruled out
Same here: flip case with screen protector.... i donĀ“t use cheap quality rather the opposite and - thats most interesting for me - mat protection without refections... positive side effect: if you want to sell the device later, it has no scratches if you had been careful For me it would be horrible if there was a scratch on the screen...
