[Q] Wifi Xoom. How do I get back to original state? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Wifi Xoom and I'm seriously thinking of returning it before my 14 days are up. It is rooted, and using the Tiamat kernel, and unlocked, how do i get this back to original way. What is the easiest way.
I really like the unit, but not to justify 600.00 with no source and no idea when source would be out. I find battery use ok, but not great, the apps are good, but i have a color nook and with NookieFroyo, and I find myself using the Nook more then Xoom. If there was Rom's etc, but at this time, we are kind of in holding pattern. Don't even know when the MicroSD will be on. Anyhow, what is the method to get everything back to normal.
Thanks

I received this in a pm this morning from stevenege, as I didn't want to root my wifi xoom until I could unroot it.
It is not un-rootable nor re-lockable as of right now, the files have not been released yet for the public. 3G yes, WiFi no :-(.
It will come though, and everything will be awesome.

Right, so how do i return this? I dont think any store would notice it, but i just will a factory reset and clean everything off it? I only rooted so i could use Adfree and Titanium Backup.

Yes, factory reset, return.
Sent From My Evo

You can unroot it, but you can't re-oem-lock it.
If you flash the wifi system.img and boot.img found elsewhere, it will be back in a freshly unlocked but not-rooted state.

I returned my xoom to staples because i tested a theme and bricked it. it was still rooted and they didn't ask. they just wanted my order number so they can exchange. same process with a return. they aren't going to run test to check if it is rooted. just factory and return.

Not sure what I did...

Ok so a week or so ago I decided I was going to buy the Infuse, Ive wanted it forever and I got it. used. Which is fine, im ok with used its gorgeous.
But it was running 2.3.6 UCKJ2. Was running fine. My only issue was I couldnt tether and I really HAVE to for the next month or so.
After spending my entire 1 day off reading and researching I managed to use GTGs Ultimate Unbrick and restore it back to factory. Ok....good. Then I used Super One click to root.
Well now I can tether. But my gmail cant sync and some of my apps dont work unless I uninstall then reinstall repeatedly everytime I use them. If I turn on sync the phone freezes and I have to pull the battery. Then the time is 4 hours off.
Im not sure what I should do and im afraid to do anything because Im going to make it worse lol. I cant afford to brick my phone, so any advice is great.
Firmware 2.2.1
Baseband I997UCKD5
Kernal 2.6.32.9
Build Froyo.UCKD5
Im not running through AT&T I am using H2O Wireless.
Thank you, and sorry if this has already been specifically addressed. I couldnt find anything this specific and Ive been searching for hours.

get off froyo. not saying thats your issue.....but if you were on 2.3.6 i would return to something close. gtg also has a rom called infused on here that is probably the most stable rom here. get that on your phone, see if you still have all that freezing and having to pull battery issues. if so i would lean toward the phone its self......again thats a very stable rom and not to many people have any of the issues you are describing.
flash away man.....its hard to brick this phone. and since you used the ultimate unbrick you can always do that if you dont like it or wont to return it to stock and send it back
If you're gonna flash a current ROM (which you should) may I recommend one. I rocked the Infused 2.3.3 for a long time, awesome and very stable but...I have found a better one the doctorz v8 ROM ported by dman.
Stable and awesome with everything working, except Swype, but if you uninstall it, then google Swype, download and install their beta version and it's fixed. I've heard that all the phone companies are crackin down on tethering sooooo, Good luck.

You forgot to factory reset after using ultimate unbrick. Its a must if your going to stay on stock.

I agree about getting off Froyo. The phone worked like a dream before I used Ultimate Unbrick and rooted it. Honestly I love Android and have never had to root one before. But I need to tether for the time being and it seemed the only way. I think I goofed lol.
Im worried about mucking it up more or losing my root by trying to install a new rom. But at this rate...im about to smash my phone (even though its my fault) so Ill try anything!!
Optimus I must have not read that part! I will try that and hopefully that helps a little until I work out this how to put a ROM on. I really appreciate the help. I use my phone for work, and it has 6 gmail accounts on it that currently I cant sync. God forbid I want to waste some time playing words with friends. It works for 5 minutes then I have to uninstall and reinstall.
I really appreciate you all taking the time to help. If I dont smash my phone or blow it up installing a new rom ill let you know how i make out. Thank you so much.
OK so when I did the factory reset I lost root. Tried to root again SEEMS to have worked only the tethering app now says not allowed by your carrier! First off I don't have at&t I use H2O secondly it worked before! If there was anyone in my area who did this sort of thing I wouldn't be making you poor people crazy with all these questions LOL thank you again for your help.
I have done it! Rooted and running serendipity! Thank you all so much! I can't even express how helpful you've been!

[Q] A Few Questions About the TF101 (Thinking of Buying)

Hi Folks,
I just bought an Acer A500 and I'm really disappointed in it. The screen isn't very good, and wifi seems a bit wonky on it. Not that I'm against hacking, because I'm not at all. I don't like the fact that it doesn't work with ad-hoc wifi connections out of the box. The thing I loved about it was that I had it rooted, recovery and a custom ICS rom installed within an hour.
I know the TF101 has a better screen so I'm not going to ask that. I've tried to search for most of this info, but you know how good search is, so I'll ask here.
I see the tab has root, is there a one click method that I missed? I thought I saw one for it at one point but haven't seen it since.
As far as wifi goes, will this thing hook up to our android phones using the tether apps (not pdanet)?
How easy is it to brick one of these? Stupid question I know, but I've been using Samsung phones which are pretty much impossible to brick unless you really screw up on a kernel, so I would just like to hear what you think.
Reason I ask is because I debated between this and the A500. I went with the A500 based on price. I've been theming over on the the Nexus S for AOKP and CM9 so I'm looking for a tab that I will be able to work with the same roms so I can expand into tablets. I've also started trying to do some source builds so I can make some of my own visual modifications to some of the jar files within the framework.
Thanks in advanced for any input you can give!
1. Easy to root, especially the earlier models.
2. Wifi tether & Bluetooth tether (I recommend bluetooth highly!)
3. Almost impossible to brick if you have one of the earlier Transformers with NVflash.

I use my inspire 4g to connect to all the time. I just place my phone into hotspot mode and use Wep Security and then just log on with the tab.

On a new model, all you get is CWM. So make a back up and hold it dear. Because if something gets hosed while flashing and you don't have anything to go back to. Its dead.
On an older model they have nvflash and can recover from anything.
So what I'm hearing is buy a refurb and hope?

Mine is a new model. SBK2. I have flashed it 30 times and never had an issue. Granted I have my original backup and origianl kernel on a 2 gig card I had lie'n around and then I placed that in my safe.
As long as you know what you are doing yer all good. Maybe. Lol
try to find a used one preferably SBK1 which is B-70(some) and below they are much easier to work with when it comes to modding and hacking (NV flash) which is like ODIN for Samsung phones. They are great tablets dont get me wrong but the new wave of devices are unfortunetly going to make these tabs obsolete much better than the Acer devices you spoke of

Question about my new Xoom updating....or not updating to 4.0.4

I just got my Xoom yesterday, and obviously brand new to it, and Android.
100% stock, and it's staying that way.
Charged it up first, turned it on, set up the wifi and all the normal setup stuff it has you go through. Checked settings and it said the version was 4.0.3, so I told it to check for updates, which it did, and it said 4.0.4 was available, so I told it to get it. It downloaded it, and something came up on the screen about installing and restarting, which I did. Screen went black for a bit, then it said something about booting into Android recovery, then went dark again....then I think the next thing that happened was there was a little Android robot on the screen, and then it switched to another view of that robot, kind of laying on it's side, with like an access door open on it's back, and there was a red triangle with an exclamation point in it. It stayed like that for a bit, black again, and then it rebooted, and seemed normal. But, it still says it's 4.0.3, and if I tell it to check for updates, it says I have the current version.
Did something go wrong? Did I do something wrong? . It seems odd it said it found 4.0.4 and installed it, and it still says 4.0.3
I even tried this manual method or forcing 4.0.4:
1. go to setting / apps then hit the all button at the top
2. scroll down to google services framework and then press it to open
3. hit the clear data button
4. go to settings / about phone / system updates (you will notice the date will be 1969 or 1970 this is ok )
5. hit the check now button
6. xoom should show you the 4.0.4 update avalaible
7. hit install and enjoy
no luck with this either.....have done it more than a half dozen times too.
FWIW, it is a U.S. version, and I do live in California, if any of that matters.
Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
As far as I know, 4.0.4 update started rolling out in the US but it seemed not to be fully yet OK.
So you have 3 options.
1) wait for another OTA update. It might take a longer while.
2) root your xoom and flash custom rom ics 4.0.4.
3) live with 4.0.3
And by the way, custom rom is way way much better and robust than stock. I personally rooted my xoom the minute I unpacked it. Pretty easy.
Here on xda community, we ye d to help each other if you know what I mean. To start, we need to know your xoom type, wifi or 3g...

It's the Wifi version, and the person at Motorola said that 4.0.4 was out and available.
I'm not rooting it.
I tried that with a Kindle Fire with help form this forum, and it went south and got bricked beyond repair..........just not in the mood with a $350 tablet, no matter how easy it is.
I appreciate your reply though.

Yep, me too.....100% stock.
I sent the other one back to Amazon, got my second one today, and same thing, right out of the box. At first start up, right after setting up wifi, it says update available 4.0.4
It downloads and verifies it.
Press install and restart, it does that little robot animation for a few seconds, and right to the screen with the robot laying on his back with the red triangle with the exclamation point.
Motorola acts like they haven't heard of this much. Hah!
And the only thing they offer is to send a box to send it back to them, to flash it. Yeah, I want to send in my 3 hour old device that has an issue right out of the box!

It's not that I'm not thinking of it, it's just that I tried all that with a Kindle Fire with help from people here, and it went completely south, mainly due to a computer crash right in the middle of it. Long story short, I'm going to try it again on the KF, but I bought this because it's more of what I would essentially turn the KF into, and it's more money. I got a good deal on the KF, so I took the risk, I know it's not that hard, I just had a bad experience that left me with a bad taste in my mouth over the whole thing. I'll try the Kindle Fire first, not this.
On that note, I'm assuming there is a good guide to follow for rooting and/or flashing the Xoom, yes?

[Q] Google problems after upgrade.

Goole Play no longer recognizes device after upgrade.
Upgraded Samsung Infuse 4G from GB 2.3.6 to JB 4.1.2 .
Any ideas on how to solve this?
dlw
What do you mean Google Play doesn't recognize device? And did you try to go from GB directly to JB without doing ICS first?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
Yes, I did. I understood there would be no problems.
So, I need to download ICS, then go to JB?
dlw
I would. You may want research more. JB is different partition format and you can't go backwards from JB to ICS or lower. Might need to Heimdall bac to stock. See this thread for proper flash guide.

I may do that.
However, Amazon works fine and I prefer A to Goodle anyway.

Might be me but still not sure how you went from GB directly to JB. Did steps change?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
It clearly states in the OP that you must install ICS first. You also have to boot up with ICS at least once before installing JB. At least I did.
Thank you for replying.
I'll try to explain. First, I am a noob. This is my first smartphone -used- and any attempts to fool with it.
I've ran a Linux based OS since about 2000 but I am NOT A GEEK, I am a USER, but do understand root.
Running Ubuntu 12.10 on a PC and an old EEE Netbook. The netbook is only used as a GPS unit when I'm in the forest.
So, I wanted to root my Infuse 4g -2.2.1. Did that and all went well.
Last Thursday morning very early the electricity went out, when it came back on it flickered several times.
I usually charge it overnight but turn it off. I forgot to turn it off the night before and woke up to a bricked phone.
After 2 1/2 days of panic, I finally got it back to GB 2.3.6 by using a OneClick.jar. I must admit it was very easy once I found out how.
After reading in the 'Infuse' forum that it was possible to upgrade to 4.+, I decided to go for it.
I tried 'pa' -Paranoid Android- first and did not like it. Next I flashed
'cm' -cynagen mod ?'- and it did not turn out right. Then I flashed 'Cypher Android 4.1.2' -aokp_infuse4g_unofficial_Oct-25-12.
Cypher Android is what is on the phone now.
One problem is when I answer a phone call, the screen turns black; returns to normal once the call is over.
There may be other problems but I'm not aware of them right now.
I am downloading 'apk's' and installing via 'adb' now so not interested in using Google or Amazon.
I am considering starting from scratch but need to learm more before I try.
Any help appreciated. My apologies for the long winded reply.

It seems easier to pop up what seems like a simple problem without explaining where the source of the problems came from.
It takes some time to explain yourself but it's worth it in the end.
This may explain where some of us are coming from when we choose to answer a question or not:
http://catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
When you have encountered any problems after a flash, assume that thing have gone wrong. If you fix it with a simple solution, other problems not seen initially may surface later.
I consider it better practice to start over.
Take out your microSD card. Factory reset the phone.
To get a decent base, use the uclb3 heimdall-1-click I put together. Flash it twice with boot loaders.
Flash ICS. Factory reset. Flash JB.
Review the instructions that have been laid out. It's there for a reason.
You can also click on my profile or profile of other users that have been taking time to answer questions. You will see a history of our posts. You can pick up quite a few answers.
(Nothing against you, dlw) But most of us enjoying sharing what we have discovered but it gets kinda old answering the same question over and over again. A little reading should be a requisite. I started out with a flip phone about 1.5 yrs ago. I knew nothing about root or android. I know a little more about root now. I'm a little more familiar with android. One of the things that I've been good at is the search function. (end rant)
Start over and have fun...
Happy New Year..
Thank you for your explanation.
I thought I was replying to psal217050 only who ask how I managed to update JB
dlw
I was trying to ascertain how you went from GB to JB and bypassed I've. I defer to qkster, andros11 and Pony Express on any complicated procedures. I can eff up my own phone (and have) but refuse to try and give advice on how to eff up someone else's phone. Simple procedures and clear instructions along with searching and their help have gotten me through many a day.

[Q] How do I unbrick my Asus Transformer tf101?

It's my first Android tablet. Decided to have a go at rooting it. All went well until I installed KatKiss 4.4.4. Couldn't connect to wifi at all, although could connect fine with the laptop.
A tablet without the internet is barely worth using, so I decided to try going back to a stock ROM and that's where I managed to totally brick it. Can't boot up into recovery, can't get past the Asus screen with the rotating icon.
Somebody gave me this tablet for nothing, and I really don't want to tell them I wrecked it permanently. This forum is my last hope 'cos I'm outta ideas and fed up to the back teeth with this. I can't even turn the wretched thing off.
Just to add, the tablet was originally from Canada, although I'm in the UK. Didn't really know what firmware version to install, so I tried the WW (WorldWide) one - obviously the wrong choice. It's buggered up everything.
Edit: Hey guys, I got recovery back >_>. Can't post links as a new user, but Frederuco's guides on the Transformer forums really helped me out. Decided to go back to KatKiss rather than risk bricking my tablet all over again. Still have no wifi connection, but oh well. For now... >_>

Was about to suggest Easyflasher for unbricking, but since you already managed, check Settings > WifI > Menu 3 dots > Advanced
make sure the Wifi regulatory domain is set correctly for your country
