What exactly is the ODIN rom? I understand what a rom is, and i've read some of the thread about "[ROM-ODIN] Deodexed KB5 Enhanced v2.2" (not all of it, its 50 pages) but i'm still not sure exactly what it is. I've been looking through the forums and google, but i'm still not exactly sure what its purpose is.
looking back on what I wrote, I realize this is not clear at all.
How does ODIN differ from the firmware that came with my Galaxy S 4G? Is it just without the bloatware, or has it been built from a stock 2.2 rom
Sorry if this is confusing, but I am quite the noob.
Thank you!

If you can't figure out what ODIN is, then I would recommend you not even try messing with your phone.
But to answer your question ODIN is a program used to flash the phone. You can use it to flash back to stock or to newer firmware or to custom firmware such as the Custom DEODEXED KB5 you found. This is the only way to flash for our phones currently until Krylon gets ROM Manager's ClockworkMod working for our phones to flash custom firmware/ROM's.
Ah thank you very much that answered my question completely! And thank you for your advice, although I haven't made up my mind yet...
On this subject, where is the stock ODIN? I've been looking through the forum but all I see is the rooted version.
Where is the version to return to "out of the box" state?
As a matter of course I always make sure I understand UNROOTING before I root the device.

Not sure what you mean by "STOCK" Odin. But if your looking for a stock ROM then you can find 2 of them in the dev section. They all come with bloat but they might come rooted already. Just use the same method you used to root your phone to unroot it.

You can use superoneclick to take it out of root after you flash the stock ROM. Then it will be out of box state. Is that easy enough for you?

Easy isn't the issue. I'm concerned about a true restore with no evidence.
But yeah I thought about stock rom and SOC to unroot. Won't there be traces though?

A return to true stock is a concern of mine a well. There is a post in the developers section for a stock kb5 restore that is posted as final; however, there seem to be issues with restoring think free office (i use this often, it is a paid app on the market) and drive smart. What can noobs do to help resolve these issues?

You can't just root your phone...?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Well, I have the Vodafone crapware on my ROM, so I just want a good stock rom that is rooted. For my old Hero there were a couple around that could be flashed very easily.
I'm using virtuous sensation v1.0.1 and its pretty much the same as stock. Very fast and stable.

Ahh I guess I don't have to start a new thread to ask my question.
All I want is for me to be able to use titanium backup to remove bloatware, rom manager to back things up, and change the pink bootup T-Mobile crap. Will I simply be able to root, add those apps and proceed?
Thanks for the help in advance
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
yes, you will be able to root.
1.) s-off
2.) permRoot
you don't need titaniumbackup to uninstall bloatware. simply use the rootexplorer. navigate to system/app and delete that apps you don't want to be on your phone. but don't forget to mount r/w. and before you do so, make a nandroid backup!
How do we perma root without screwing up our WIFI, yet stay with stock ROM? Seems NO ONE has addressed this here on the forum. Suggesting a custom ROM is a bandaid solution.

No where did they mention how to root. Many people are losing their wifi doing the regular method that is in the massive guide, so they wind up going back to stock. It is not guaranteed to mess up wifi, but if it does, you are just unlucky. (As of now).
I would like to know how others are rooting (perm.) without having these issues.
Matt
I think the responses in this thread pretty much sum up why we want a rooted yet otherwise untouched ROM. From my flashing experience in the past I have found it *extremely* difficult to find a ROM where everything just works. Some well meant tweak always ends up causing some bizarre problem somewhere down the line.

Android 2.3 Software Number EH17 From USCC... Its posted on their site

Not working for some reason.....
I have tried to update...but Kies mini is telling me I have the latest version lol
You can take it to a store tech center and have them reflash your phone with it if mini kies isn't working.
Mini kies has been a flaming hot mess more often than not with these updates, so a full reflash at the store is probably not a bad idea anyway.
Strange....Its been taken down!

Bottom line: Our developers and users have moved to Rootzwiki. Its still the same users and developers that were once here; same usernames and everything. Everyone's there. Just a new location (and new management).
Whats done is done; the mass exodus has occurred and it can't be changed. So lets quit talking about it. Get on the Rootzwiki boat or stay in ghost town. Your choice.

No kies on my Samsung N150 Plus netbook, just installed USCC_I500_EH09_SimpleDL from the US Cellular android upgrade section. Followed instructions (except for battery life, performed this with 81%) phone rebooted, all apps intact including acircuitboard live wallpaper, root apps, contacts, calender, etc...., EXCEPT ROOT ACCESS! Super User gone baby, verified with root check app. guess I'll give GingerBreak a try this weekend, heck I may even try SuperOneClick again to see what happens. Here's a trick for you warranty voider freaker outers, if you brick it, just tell your provider you lost the phone and pay the $50 or whatever dollar insurance claim and get a new GXS.
Obviously no root access, it's a stock official rom.

I picked up a Mesmerize yesterday and was surprised to find it already running 2.3.4. I'm not sure if that's already a common thing on these, but coming from the Captivate world (still have it for personal use, the Mez is for work) it seemed very surprising.
Anyway, I definitely want to root this thing and get rid of the bloat; Is there a specific process for rooting these things with 2.3.4? I keep seeing stuff for Eclair and Froyo, but am unsure if GB uses the same Z4Root process or not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Good luck.. there is NO development going on for this phone.

There doesn't appear to be any way for users to root GB on our phones at the moment. The only solution that I've found presented so far is to flash a pre-rooted ROM.

To the best of my knowledge, you basically have to flash in a rooted image - the older root exploits used apparently were finally patched in 2.3.

ya i'll have to disagree too, there are lots of TW and non-TW based roms out there, personally I use MIUI...honestly unless u have to root specifically for an application and don't want to use a custom rom rooting the stock rom is useless, since the mes has an unlocked bootloader you can just flash clockwork whenever you want and load whatever rom suits you.
My cousin is having issues with his phone and asked me if I could help him flash back to stock. I'm doing some forum searches but I can't seem to clearly find an odin rom to return to stock (as in out of the box T-Mobile US stock, unrooted). I'm not familiar with the different samsung versioning, ie. kd5, etc....so I think that's what's making it difficult for me to understand which to use. (I'm assuming it's got to be out there, and that I just don't understand what I'm seeing in my search results to figure it out. The lettering is confusing the crap out of me.)
I would appreciate it if someone who knows what's what can help and just point me to a link to the rom to flash? I've used Odin before, so I think I'm good from there. Thanks in advance.

Android 2.2 (KD1 Froyo) was stock on my phone purchased in November 2011. To obtain a non-rooted version with no alterations to the recovery mode, check the official samsung site here:
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=560&AT_ID=373879
All the other versions I've ever ODIN'd including Ravers "KJ6 stock only" came pre-rooted.
KD1 was fast and smart but 2.3.6 Gingerbread (KJ6) is faster, even though an official GB release was made for the SGS4G, it is not considered stock equipment.

Sorry about the numerous posts, I have now successfully rooted my phone (I know its not impressive...). Now I have a few questions:
1. How do I put the latest stock android on my SGS4G? Or the latest "good" version of android on my SGS4G?
2. Since the phone is default on tmobile, I was wondering, will I still be able to do wifi calls? What I mean by that is, when I got the phone, it had a wifi calling app that turned off cell phone connections whenever I had wifi.
3. Will I be able to tether without tmobile charging me for tethering? I do have a data plan.
4. I know rooting is basically like gaining administrator access, but what are the biggest advantages of rooting? Just a personal question to you guys.
5. Last, will I be able to restore my phone as if I had just bought it from tmobile, if I install the latest, or best android version onto it?

Stock 2.3.6? You can either upgrade via Samsung's official Kies Mini software or you can grab RaverX3X's ROM-ODIN-2.3.6-Gingerbread Offical. It's based on the Kies files downloaded from Samsung just repackaged for ODIN for people having issues using Kies.
Reread above.

I'm following this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16600185
But when it says "Step 10: Download drhonks KG4 kernal.", which one do I download KG4 or..., and which md5 file inside do I use?
Search the developer forum for "kj6 one click" Read the entire thread. Pick the option with the OP's beta kernel. Proceed to flash. click thanks to the OP. Easiest method ever.

Hey man.... go down a couple threads to downgrading KJ6. Stephen and I walked that guy through the same thing you want to do. If you have any question after reading that thread we are here to help.

Okay I am seriously confused right now. Can we just start over fresh?
Basically this is what happened:
1. I succesfully rooted my phone using superoneclick
2. I was going through the tutorial found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16600185
But then Stephen mentioned that I could just using kies through samsung.
3. I tried Kies, but it didn't work
4. I talked to samsung representatives for like an hour with no success
5. I tried to put stock gingerbread from RaverX3X.
6. I almost bricked my phone since it just nonstopped restarted while displaying a bunch of dots on the screen
7. I restored my phone to factory settings
Right now it says I have 2.3.4 (Gingerbread I believe), but I have no idea how... So what I'm looking to do is to put RaverX3X's official gingerbread on my phone. My phone is not rooted, and doesn't have anything on it I believe. No USB drivers either. Where should I start?
And again thank you guys for sticking with me and helping me, I am so confused so if you can just either give me step-by-step instructions, or link me to a topic that has them. THANK YOU
Double check what version your phone says it has. 2.3.6?
If so you have what you want it seems.
