£5 per month for silver does not seem bad but I fail to understand the lines
"Mobile access to Orb or Slingbox does not include using your mobile as a modem."
Slingbox and Orb are for personal use only and you mustn’t breach copyright or get around copyright protection.
Also seem to charge roaming prices for using skype overseas? charged as a voice call not a data call?????
Anyone analysed the details in full.
To watch home TV on your mobile you need to have a TV service that you can legally view.
Slingbox is sold separately and contains a Freeview receiver so you’ll need a TV licence if you haven’t already got one.
You’re responsible for your compliance with all of these terms.
Our fair use policy
We have fair use limits and hope you’ll use your common sense. These limits should be big enough for you to do all the things you want to do. But we’ll get in touch with you if we think you’re using our services unfairly, and especially if you’re abusing them. If we find people are using X-Series above these limits, we’ll review them. Here’s our take on fair use:
* Unlimited data is 1GB per month. Also, your data usage doesn’t include using your mobile as a modem.
* Windows Live Messenger won’t count towards your monthly data fair use limit but has its own limit of 10,000 messages per month.
* Skype on 3 is 5,000 minutes per month. If you go over this you’ll need to wait until the start of the next bill month for the service to resume, however Skype calls can still be received.
* Orb and Slingbox have a total combined limit of 80 hours a month.
Hi everyone, sorry if this in the wrong section, feel free to move it.
I have searched but not found anything suitable.
I'm looking for a Winmo app to record the number of texts and minutes (and poss mobile web usage) each month, that will then reset at my billing date each month.
I have the excellent Spb Wireless Monitor already for the mobile web, and have tried an app called LCMinutes, but its quite fiddly to set up and use.
Using the HD2.
Is there anything anyone can recommend?
Thanks
here it is;
LCMinutes
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354103
Basically LCMinutes is an application that keeps track of phone calls, SMS, and data traffic, calculates their charge based on user defined rate plan, and thus keep user informed of the up-to-date balance information: like current charges, used free minutes, used free messages, used free data allowlance, expire date for prepaid plans, etc.
Have fun,
Senax
Moved as not software release.
Hi all,
I'm Guy from Onavo, and I wanted to share with you all that after much anticipation Onavo (which was available only for the iPhone till now) has come to Android!
Today we launched Onavo Lite, an app that solves the "Android data leak", as we call it. In the world of capped data plans (not to mention outrageous roaming charges), the problem with the Android ecosystem is apps run constantly in the background, which means they can be using data whether you use the app or not. Users have no control and no way to limit the data that is used. Until now.
Launched today, Onavo Lite puts users in control of their data usage. The app flags 'data hog' apps and allows users to make apps 'WiFi only', effectively stopping the data leakage.
The app helps control data usage and costs through features such as:
- Alerts and warnings: when an app is hogging data in the background, when approaching your cap, or when traveling
- Data hog blocking: can opt to block certain apps over 3G, or 3G data in general once you exceed your data cap to avoid any additional costs
- Tracking: Real-time data plan tracking and early alerts when usage reaches certain limits.
- Advice: Tips on best value data plans based on your actual usage
- Simple set up: Removes all the complexity from mobile data plans
If any of you have any questions, feel free to shoot them my way here in the forum. We would love your feedback on our app.
To download just search for "Onavo" on the Market.
I'm happy to see this app finally reach android, but the version for android doesn't do the main thing it does on the iPhone: compress data.
There are already apps that monitor data usage.. so why is this different?
other apps also have notification and that stuff.
So when will the data compressing feature be available?
Hi Ilya,
Compression for Android is definitely on its way, we are working to bring that to you as well. However we realized that to help users truly tame data plans, we needed to deliver a more holistic solution. Since on Android background data usage is a REAL problem (as opposed to iPhone) so we simply couldn't wait to release this to the public and deliver this great value. (Google for "android iphone data usage" to see a post on our blog, from our chief Android guru, on the conceptual differences between Android's and iPhone's data consumption models).
There are some great meters out there, but nothing provides:
a) Real-time alerts when apps are eating up your data in the background
b) Crowdsourced intelligence that lets you learn from our global community and get advance warnings on apps that may be problematic to your data plan.
c) The ability to block apps from using your mobile data in the background.
Add to that compression, when we release that, and you've got a one-stop-shop for all your data usage needs.
I have a few feature requests:
- specify another currency (as I am in a foreign country, it is definitely the wrong one).
- specify the begin of the monthly plan (I can specify this value for the domestic, but not for the roaming plan)
- specify previously used data - I already used some data prior to the installation
After all, looks promising...
Kind regards,
ww
All good points. Quick questions:
a) the app should suggest your own local currency (that of the SIM). This usually makes sense as if you're on your home operator's SIM you pay in your home currency, if you buy a prepaid SIM locally it would be in that country's price. What's the scenario in your case?
b) Can you describe the kind of roaming plan you're using?
Thanks!
Quick answers:
- austrian SIM (EUR), I am in Switzerland at the moment (roaming). Result: currency shown in CHF.
- my plans both begin on 26th of the month. Domestic plan: 1 GB; roaming plan: 50 MB. In the app I can specify the begin of the domestic plan. But: roaming plan begins today from my point of view.
Kind regards,
ww
Gotcha! Thanks for clarifying - definitely stuff we'd like to take care of.
Keep us posted
@webwude - we just uploaded a new version with some bugfixes, among them we have fixed your point #1 about the currency.
Thank your for the information.
I experiencing a strange issue (maybe related to your app):
since this morning, I get timeouts using the standard internet app, k-9 mail, gmail and so on - only a few apps (mail with exchange, provider app) are still working, all other (which I have used in the meantime) seems to be blocked, even after uninstalling your app. Is there any way to reset things as they were before? If I start apps which I haven't used since yesterday, they can connect... otherwise I can see that there is traffic, but browser or market just get timeouts...
It seems, that there is some sort of lock...
I will investigate this furthermore this evening...
Kin regards,
ww
Hi, i have one question. How do i turn the "Roaming, enjoy your trip" notification off? I'm always roaming (it's complicated) so i'm getting a bit annoyed when that notification sticks itself up there and i can't remove it.
Thanks in advance
There appears to be a huge discrepancy between the usage level reported by 3G Watchdog and Onavo - 304MB and 855MB respectively. What's the cause of the discrepancy, and which app would be more reliable?
@webwude - re some apps not connecting, that shouldn't be Onavo (especially not after you removed it). Did you find out what happened?
@BazookaAce - good point! BTW what kind of SIM are you using?
@Kawdess - we're looking into such discrepancies, will let you know what we find.
Tele 2 Sweden, but I live in Norway and my operator is Tele 2 Norway but Tele 2 Norway is roaming on NetComs towers. Tele 2 Norway doesn't have its own yet.
So since the SIM is swedish it "calls home" (to sweden) before bouncing back to norway and completes the call.
So Tele 2 Norway customers roam 24/7. And no, we do not pay more than normal
moderators, if there is a better place to put this, please move accordingly.
situation:
my employer will pickup $95 of my cellphone bill if i get a smartphone for work - so that i can check emails while traveling to job sites, meetings, etc. i travel about once every other week now. they will put me on the company account when i am traveling every week. so this might only be a 2 year stop-gap till they are paying for all of my phone and this isnt an issue at all. at that point, i can port my GV number to ATT and the company account.
i currently have a dumb or "feature phone" and cant justify spending the monthly data rate to get a smart phone for personal usage, but if my business pick-ups most of the tab, it is worth it. personally, i make less than 200 minutes of calls and 200 texts (mostly to my wife who is on the same plan, that is all negated as part of the "shared"
if i stay on my current family's plan and convert it to a family data share plan (ATT), that actually saves me about $15 a month on my phone bill
downside - i have an out of area phone number and my office wants me to have an in-area phone number for business
in short, what is the best, long term way to have 2 numbers call/receive on a cellphone, without having to pay extra, or minimal, for the convenience of being able to call from the different numbers. if the telecom carriers would just drop their stupid tax limitation for having different tax / area codes on the same account, i wouldn't have this issue. realistically - if everyone in the USA had free nation wide calling via cellphone, land-line, etc - we would all just have 10 digit numbers and this wouldn't be a problem b/c we wouldn't need all of these hacks and tweaks for porting numbers, move voice over sip/voip, use 3rd party programs that use txt over data rather than it just all being easy and cheap / rant over.
GV number
it appears i am receive / call from an in-area number - i already setup a number and tried a iphone and it works great.
not concerned that it uses minutes b/c family share plan has unlimited minutes (i keep searching for google voice alternatives and i either come up with VoIP / SIP options to avoid using minutes and use data OR business plans that use voice, but charge for minutes)
my concerns / reason for looking for other options / alternatives
1. every year google says that US calling is free for the next year. and their rates page shows the same.
since i will be using default GV iphone/android app that will use minutes rather than VoIP to make the calls, will that ever be a concern of mine (e.g. if google makes a call $0.01 a minute in the future, i don't want to have to find another option really quick b/c it does not suite my needs anymore)
2. GV closing - everyone was "up-in-arms" about reader closing this year. most of us have moved to other programs / clients that allow us to continue reading news
3. GV says that you shouldnt use it for business b/c they don't have enterprise support. the company i work for is far from an enterprise, but i still have some an uneasy feeling that if google doesn't like GV anymore and drop it, im scrambling to find something fast and dont want to do that. e.g. is this the best long term solution?
option 2: long time listener to leo laporte / twit and they are advertising ring central.
looked at their features and not only will it cost more than i am saving, but also, it has tons more features that what i need.
other options? someone on the GV forums called GV a "call management service" and i have searched for alternatives and most of the business oriented services seem to want to offer more features than i need and to change for it. most of the personal alternatives are an attempt to reduce voice minutes, but use data.
a lot of our contractor clients have project managers and job-site supers have completely random area codes and call from other named business's when they call us, so it might not even be an issue. trying to do all my research before i go back to my boss and give him some options and see if having an in-area number is required or just something that they would want.
thanks for the help and advise.
I've created an app to track your time at work, as the name suggests. You can punch the virtual clock as you would at work with the ability to modify it if you forget. You can add notes for a "time card" so if you had something you want to remember from that day you can. You can also add paid time off as well with a few clicks, there are currently 6 different types of paid time off you can pick from like: Personal, Vacation, Holiday, Jury Duty, Bereavement, and Maternity Leave. All of these paid time off types are based off of your hourly pay at the moment, if this is incorrect please let me know so I can get it changed. You can also delete a "check" or "time card" by long pressing on it if you don't want it any more.
What I feel is unique about my app is it actually calculates your check amount after taxes are taken out. Currently it is for the U.S. only because I am not sure if or how taxes in other countries work at the moment. Anyways, it calculates Federal Income Tax, Social Security Tax and Medicare Taxes along with any custom taxable deductions you have like 401k, dental insurance, etc (you have to set these up but it is not complicated). I have tried my best to make the app overall as simple as possible to use, with little to no knowledge of taxes or taxable deductions required, you only need to know your taxable deduction cost and whether it is a percentage of your check or a standard amount and the app takes care of the rest for you. I still plan on adding tons of features; like the ability to add tips and non-hourly pay features like per job "time cards" for sub-contractor work. I want to add in calculators as well so if you quickly want to see how much your check will be with out punching the virtual time clock all week you will be able to by punching in your hours into the calculator and it will break it down for you. Also any further simplification of anything that I can, with the help of you guys comments and suggestions. Any comments, suggestions, questions, or feedback is would be very helpful in making this a great app for everyone with a job to use. Here is the link in the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=weesner.trackyourtime. Please give it a try and let me know that you all think
