[Q] Xoom wifi shuts down and battery stats missing? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I looked around a little and couldn't find anything on this. My wifi xoom periodically will not wake from sleep. It actually acts like its powering down and I'm finding it having a hard time reporting battery stats. More often than not the battery indicator on the status bar shows a ?.
Anyone else experiencing this? Am I missing the obvious?

Battery drain in sleep mode after 3.2 update

After using my transformer for a couple of months, the battery life amazed me the most. With about 9-10 hours battery and a couple of days sleep time which was very convenient. Also charging time was very fast.
But after updating to 3.2, I've noticed that when I leave the transformer on sleep like I usually do after using it, it would drain to 0% by the end of the day when usually it would only drain like 1-5% before updating it. I checked the processes and it doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary, and I haven't installed any new applications since the 3.2 update.
Anyone else having this kind of problem?
I have the same problem

I came online to search for the exact same problem if anyone else had. And seems I am not the only one.
Now do you have the keyboard dock as well or just the tablet itself?
My case is that when I have both (tablet and keyboard) fully charged at 100% it will drain out in 18-24 hours whether I use it or not.
Under Location & Security make sure "Use wireless networks" is unchecked - that fixed it for me in 3.2

Going to give this a try, as Im having this issue as well.
I found that putting the device into airplane mode stopped the battery drain, even though I had bluetooth disabled already, and WiFi policy was set to off when screen is off. Will see how it goes with "Use Wireless Networks" disabled in location settings.
Alternatively, I may write a small app that puts the device into airplane mode when the screen has been off for more than a couple minutes (and disables airplane mode when the screen is turned on)
I have this issue too.
I had mine docked into the keyboard. left it closed and went to work.
When I came back home late, I saw the tablet with 90+% battery and the dock at almost 0%.
Might be the same issue as you guys.
What I did is set the wifi policy to off when screen off.
and I tried again to leave it in the same situation.
Charged it full at night. left it overnight, woke up went to work, and came back. and I checked. Both are still way above 90%.
It makes a big difference for me. =)
I got the battery at 66% this morning and now after no use it was at 18%! I was about to throw my tf out of the window!

I have done all this yet the drain continues. When I compare the battery drain of my tf101 with my HP touchpad, there is simply no comparison. There is virtually no drain even if I leave my touchpad uncharged for more than a day. On the other hand, my tf discharges battery when closed with the dock as if I am using it.
What gives?
Factory reset helped mine. 14 hours 81% with 3 hours of straight use.

I got a huge battery drain today again, got my battery from 57 to 3 on the dock and from 100 to 88 on the tablet with less then 10 hours, just for comprasion I got only 7% down on the dock over night (like 9-10 hours) just this morning. when i checked battry use today I saw 63% used by wifi, this wasn't like this in the morning and all I did is just checked my email and sent it back to sleep, that's annoying as hell, i barely use it and it keeps on dying really fast..
Same here indeed the wifi policy set to never sleep-->Big drain wifi policy set to when screen off-->drain very little

same here, went from extreme drain to normal
It doesn't seem like the power button on the tablet works as well as the one on the dock. If docked, I only lose about %1 per hour.
I've noticed that if I use the one on the tablet, the screen will go dark, but sometimes the tablet doesn't sleep (verified via the battery status). I have the screen set to never timeout and the Wifi set to turn off. Bluetooth set to off.
The tablet lock button seems to be the most reliable and I always get about %1/hour drain when I use that button. Might be just a coincidence.
Is there are "real" sleep mode that we can access? It seems like sleep mode doesn't really sleep, it just shuts down certain items (the screen, bluetooth/wifi). I'm talking about like an S3 state where power is cut to the processor and the only the memory is keep.
If there is a real sleep, it seems like the device has a choice. I want a "Go to the Fok to Sleep" button!

I did this and it worked for about an hour (cpu spy) but then something woke the tablet and it never went back to deep sleep and wiped out the dock battery in about 4 hours. If I turn wifi off standby life is good. However I woud really like to keep the wifi on and get good battery life.
This working consistently for you?
I was ready to replace my dock. This worked like a charm. I went from 1-5% per hour in sleep to <.5% per hour.
I just figured it out this week. I was running WEP at home and this prevents both of my android devices from sleeping like they should. I know I shouldn't be running WEP but neighbor is wide open so I was too lazy to change. Open and WPA allowed sleep on both devices about 80% of the time in standby and big improvement in battery life. Still keeping my eye on it but difference was immediately noticeable with cpu spy.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
After further review it appears it wasn't WEP. All was well until I put my laptop and computer back on wifi then both infuse and transformer had inconsistent sleep. I disconnected computers and both android devices sleep again. Updated my router firmware but no improvement. Any ideas?
Update: I believe my router is doing this. Works fine until I connect other wireless devices then drains. There are sporadic reports of this in other forums for dlink dir-655.

After 3.2.1 or possibly the Maps update, my wifi stopped powering on after sleep. It would start and stop, even airplane mode would not break the cycle. Frustrated, I turned the location setting back on, reinstalled maps and left it undocked. Woke up this morning. 98% battery. Arg. WTF is going on? This is maddening. The dock drain seems to fluctuate between 8-40% in 8 hours and I get 2% undocked? Is the dock the issue (that would suck).
I'm docking it again tonight. Maybe it was reinstalling maps? This is really frustrating. With 3.2.1 the browser is stable, Skype video now is going. This is the last issue with TF before I can strongly recommend it to my friends.
I am getting some nasty battery drain now too. Approx 30% overnight with wifi off. Im very happy that skype works though.

[Q] Battery drained from 86% to 0% overnight.

Yesterday at night, my phone had about 86% battery left when I went to sleep. Today I wake up and I go to press the lock button to try to wake my phone up and it doesn't turn on. I thought it had shut itself off like many G2x are known to do, so I did a battery pull and tried to turn it on. It still wouldn't turn on.
I connected the battery charger to my phone and turned it on that way. When it turned on, the battery icon was empty and it was showing a "?" mark inside of it.
It stayed like that for about 5 minutes, then the battery started charging again, but it said it had 1% left.
What could have caused this?
The only app that was running was Juice Defender and it's setup to turn off wifi and all data connection from 12am to 8am.

Were you in a bad signal area? I noticed considerable drain before in the basement. Had to do with signals, was constantly searching for a better/stronger signal.
Are you using a ROM? Are you rooted if not? If rooted download a battery calibration app, charge to 100%, use the app, unplug phone and use till dead. Batterystats.ini may have bogus values in it and that's showing false info. That process should correct it.
I use cm7 nightly 151 with faux's oc/uv 0.4.2 kernel and sometimes I get the battery icon with ? in it, corrects itself once it detects properly.

That's most likely why. In places where I get 1 bar my battery tends to die very fast even with the screen off. So I pop it in airplane mode when I'm sleeping or know I'll be busy for a while.

No need if you have wifi available. just turn on wifi calling and you wont notice much of a battery drain with a bad signal, so people will still be able to contact you via call or text

True that would work for the OP.

+1 on this,
This happened to me on 2 phones, my friend have over 40% and he found dead, after 15mins in his pocket, same with mine, I thought my phone locked up, tried to reset and pull battery, didn't not help, found out 0% when lug in charge. Most of the times, after flashing a new rom, battery showing choppy stats.

Powered Off / Battery Drain COMPLETE

I have now had this problem twice this week. I have read other posts that sound similar but the issue seems different.
Twice I have shut down my phone at night. With FULL battery. The next morning, I could not turn the phone on. It would vibrate when I hit power button but not come on at all.
Both times I plugged it in and saw that the battery was COMPLETELY drained. I have seen threads where people post about some battery drain overnight, but this was an entire drain, with the phone off.
This is a major issue obviously as both times the next morning I was on the go and had zero battery life.
Any ideas of what this can be? Does it sound like a physical battery issue? Is the phone maybe not actually shutting down and getting caught in some battery draining process?
Help please.
The best way to test the shutdown issue is pulling the battery after it seems to shut down. Try pulling it for a few seconds and replacing it, but leaving the device off. If that produces the same result, try leaving the battery out overnight.
This seems to only be happening if I leave the battery in the phone.
It happened again last night. Complete drain.
Im not sure but I feel like there may have been a buzz as it turned itself off (not sure if its always there need to experiment further). I picked it up and hit buttons to make sure it wasnt just in standby. It wasnt. it was OFF.
Next morning, no battery.
Any ideas? Id love some help as this is becoming a pretty big problem for me.
Have you ruled out a hardware issue already? If not then call the carrier.

This actually happened to me a night before last as well - twas the first night running Smooth Ice 5.1. Are you on that by chance? Not knowledgeable enough to really comment on whether or not that could be it, but it'd be something to eliminate.
I switched to the new leak last night and the battery life has been excellent off charger all day, for what it's worth.
I am on stock everything.
I am still trying to diagnose the problem.
It seems that when I Power Off, occasionally at the end of the power done I will get a Vibrate. When that happens, I think it is draining while switched off.
When the Power Down happens and I dont feel the vibrate, so far I have not experienced the drain.
Does that perhaps give anyone ideas about what might be happening? Some kind of locked in Process or App? Any likely culprits? Any diagnostics that can show, if it does drain, what drained it?
In the past when it drained I plugged it in to charge and checked battery stats, but it showed Display as the largest consumer. Does the About Battery stats reset each time you plug in and start charging?

It always vibrates when you power off, at least mine does.
The battery stats reset after a full charge has been achieved.
I have no idea what would be discharging it while off besides a bad battery.
Put the BetterBatteryStats application on there. The stock Battery Use GUI interface that is built into the firmware will not show you details enough, it will just show what application used the cpu for X amount and caused the battery to go down X amount.
Put BetterBatteryStats on there to find out what is causing the phone to get drained so quickly. Seems like its not going in deep sleep mode and there is some partial wakelock that is keeping the phone from going into deep sleep. That app will tell you what service or application is holding the largest wakelocks and amount of time it does it for. This helps to determine the issue. Without this, you are just speculating on the problem with the built in Battery Use stats/graph in the Status screen.

Something else I noticed...
Over the last few data, sometimes when I power down the phone, it goes through the powering down process usual, but as soon as its done, the phone vibrates and powers right back on...
Anyone experience this or an idea why that would happen?
Just a thought; If I'm charging my phone with a generic charger (500 mA) and shut it off, it will reboot.
If I'm charging with either the factory wall charger or a 12 volt that triggers AC charge it won't.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
The reboot happens when I shut down and am not plugged in to a charger at all....
My galaxy S has been doing this too lately (loses all charge when off overnight). It always buzzes on shutdown.
One thing that mine has is a problem with the usb port, it slowly stopped working and now I can't charge it anymore through the port. I'm wondering if there is a physical short there that is causing the battery to drain. Possibly you have something similar going on, or a short elsewhere in the system.
I've noticed that you cannot shut the phone down when charging from certain chargers too, especially in the car. Very annoying.
Bump
Hey guys,
Im still having this issue and wanted to hear if there is a known fix or solution?
Honestly, the severity of battery drain you're describing sounds lije more of a hardware issue than anything else. I would contact yoir carrier as mentioned above. Beyond that, trying out a custom ics like sky or embryo might be your best bet if you prefer the tw interface. Im on embryo 5.1 right now and am experiencing better battery health and longevity than ever before with the skyrocket. But the issue does sound like a bad battery.

This happened to me on one of my i777s.
The phone would even not boot up. It will just vibrate. Turns out the battery was bad. Changed the battery. It was still the same.
Then tried another charger, same thing happened.
So then I changed the whole charging port part in the phone.
Voila! Phone worked like a charm.
So if you have warranty change the phone. If not change the charging port. At least in my case.
I came to a conclusion that even the battery went bad because of the bad charging. Might be a coincidence too.

I have 3 S2 phones that I bought as defect and played around with. Two I could fix but I could not resolve the battery issue on the third phone like by buying a brandnew USB charger part (and trying the ones from the other 2 phones. It has nothing to do with the ROM or anything software either. I narrowed it down to be an issue on the actual mainboard. The weird thing is that the battery discharges way faster when the phone is turned off than when it's in use.

No more battery overnight

He for guys. I don't know what, wrong with my pad.
I'm in CleanROM 2.4, Clemsyn kernel and browser2ram.
Before i am go my bed it still 80% when I woke up it couldn't wake up too, I tried to plug to charging, it show symbol no more battery,And after few minutes it wake up. What happened. I had twice same issues this problem. Anyone have too
Something got stuck on. Look in the settings / battery and see what drained it over night. Grab cpu spy from the marker and check to see if it's deep sleeping.

BetterBatteryStats also helped out many times on my SGS2. The TF700 has had some wakelocks (both kernel and partial), too, but generally speaking it's behaving itself quite nicely.
See if things like GPS, Bluetooth or maybe performance mode are constant.
Check to see if Google maps or location services stays off.
Use task manager to try and force apps down.
...or try the factory reset option.

Might be same problem I have. My battery level has been displayed incorrectly since.20 update. It dies at 43%, bit stays at 100% for hours until it finally starts to drop. So your 80% might actually be 40. To check, charge to 100( for a couple hopes since 100 might not actually be 100) and see how long it takes for it to drop below 100 on the indicator. If it's been like an hour of use and no change, then you have the battery bug issue. Starting to see allot of people with it now...

Battery and signal issue?

Anyone else have a problem with your battery draining extremely fast? My battery goes from 100% to 38% in 2 and half hours on standby.. And I've noticed my WiFi and Cell signal constantly drop and reconnect all the time now. It just started within the last week, I don't know what's going on.. Is this a common problem? Any help or input would be appreciated.
If your phone loses signal your batrery will drain very fast.
How to solve it?
Flash another radio or switch to another carrier with better coverage.

I normally have great coverage, it's my WiFi that's the issue, but for some reason the last week it constantly turns off then turns back on.. I don't know why, normally it never constantly drops n reconnects. I'm gonna try wiping and reinstalling cm11 see if that helps
