[Q] Syncmypix and Facebook Crappy Quality - HTC Inspire 4G

Ok so I know it's been talked about before but I still haven't found an answer. I'm trying to sync my Facebook photos with my google contacts on my Inspire and I can't seem to get good quality let alone high quality. I read somewhere that syncing with google causes this problem but that's the whole idea is so that my contacts are backed up. I mean if there is a way to not sync their photos with google just the phone I'm down for that but I HAVE to have my contacts instantly backed up with google.
Thanks
Tommy

Bump please

noticed the same thing....wish we had an answer

i believe google down sizes the photos to a poor quality. so the work around is to allow the Sense UI facebook to pull your facebook images and replace those on your contacts. but i do not believe google will take those new better photos and store them.
its an HTC Sense thing.

[APP] Contact Photos resolution and sync

So i have been battling with low resolution photos from facebook being applied to contacts, almost making even having a contact photo useless because you can't tell who it is anyways because it is so pixelated. I came to the conclusion that the facebook app syncs the thumbnails which are a massive 50x50px instead of the actual display picture...
Solution:
Download and install SyncMyPix from the market it's free and does a fabulous job, in the settings tell it to use the highest quality photo, you can link your contacts and tell it to update daily. Also it lets you crop the picture..Nice little app.
Give it a try guys instead of crying to the ROM developers it has nothing to do with them, or Google Contacts app, it's the facebook app, it syncs the thumbnails because it thinks its easier to sync an already pre-cropped photo.
What a joke.
This should be in Themes and Apps...usually I'm a lot more forgiving but that's almost obvious should've been your first choice.
But yea...app is nice...don't know wtf they were thinking with the Green though...the UI could be much nicer without the hideous green.
Yes and no, my intention was to point out that it's not the rom/devs that are to blame. It's the facebook application itself.

fair enough...
I also wish gmail contacts itself would allow for higher res images and larger images when you call them.
I'm gonna give this a try. if it works, thanks!
i gave the app a try.. not bad except that it doesn't most of contact.
i understand i can manually link the fb photo to my contact but i keep hitting the error of unable to manually link photo.
anyone with the same experience?
I was unable to get sync my pix to work, it couldn't log into facebook. HOWEVER, I downloaded Asurion's Facebook Mix-in which is INTENDED to work with their POS application Addressbook, which you should NOT download. Luckily, the 'Mix-in' works on its own, with its only purpose being to sync pics in high res! Yay! Although, without the the main application Addressbook, it won't find your 'matches' so you have to select each match.; At least it works!!

Contact photo blurry

Is there a way to get the contact photos not to blurry? Every time I call someone or receive a call the photo is really blurry or grainy.
I have tried the method where you go into your people, and change the photo of your contacts to an actual picture of them that you have on your phone. But it never works. The photos always change back to the photo they have on Facebook and it looks horrible.
Crap!!! work area of the forums can you please move this to General.. I thought I was in that area when I posted the reply.
If you have a HTC Sense account on your phone you should sync your FB contacts through it. It will make the pictures much more clear. For some reason they look terrible when synced through the FB app.
This post really helped me however when I tried to sign up for Sense I couldn't get past the part that says I have logged in on my device. Any advice?

I know that if you sync your phone contacts with Google, then Google automatically resizes the photos, thus making them blurry. What I do is make sure all my contacts reside on my phone. No Facebook, no Google, just phone, and my contact photos are crystal clear.
So maybe I shouldn't sync with fb. However I love having bdays and events on by calendar.

This is an Android/Gmail bug. For some reason Google refuses to fix this even though there are several bug reports submitted on their support forums. Whenever syncing contacts using the Gmail service, your contact photos are resized to what is used by gtalk. I was never able to find a work around for this. I not syncing with Gmail contacts defeats the whole purpose. I've basically learned to live with it. It's pretty ridiculous how such an easy thing could be fixed though.

I agree. If Google is smart, they would keep the actual size of the photo selected and allow each program to resize it as needed. Not on the contacts page. Especially since all of the newer phones now are HD devices.

Facebook for HTC Sense photo sync

i've had sense on some other phones, and i'm experiencing some sort of bug that i can't seem to fix. i have facbook for htc sense sync contacts instead of the facebook app because it syncs a higher resolution image than facebook itself. some of my contacts, which seem to be contacts that aren't linked to anything else, the facebook only ones are syncing at low resolution. i can solve this by linking the contact to someone else, clicking their picture and then the picture selection options resyncs the hi res image and i can unlink the contact again.
i can't figure out why this is happening, but after i fix it, and go back into contacts they're all low res again, it's almost like it's zooming in the picture, i mean the pictures are right, it just seems to be blowing them up or zooming in causing them to look terrible, this is only happening with contacts that aren't linked to another contact. it's really really annoying, anyone else experiencing this?
you link people together ?? why ?? my mom and my dad have seperate numbers why linking them ? is this even possible ??
ok... anyways ...
for me the picturequality stayd the same as i turned off google contact sync ... maybe this helps you too
i link people together because i have a ton of contacts under different services, google, facebook, twitter, last.fm, and the ability to link them under one contact card is, for me, the best feature sense offers. turning off google contact sync would not be the fix for this issue, i'd lose 400 contacts doing that.
no... you will keep them ... it just stopping syncing the new contacts youre adding !!!! ... when you have new contacts you can turn it on again ... but try it .... nothing will get lost .... and my pictures stayed in same quality ....
for me it was the same .... new contact picture and after some minutes picture was blurry .... and when i turned on they stayd in same quality ...
google saves the contactpicture in low quality
i'll try it, but this issue isn't with google contacts, the contacts it's happening with are actually contacts that don't have a google link.
mmhhh.... its worth a try ... maybe its a random google android thing .... lets see
it has been my experience that the native fb program attached to sense supply's the pics in your fb contacts in sense as well as launcher pro. i don't have a resolution issue. My problem is that in the sms log the contact pics sometimes disappear and only the number is there. that is annoying... I need that to be fixed since i don't know phone numbers by heart anymore. DANG you technology!!!!

High Res Contact Photos

How do you get the contact photos in Hi Res? I tried haxsync but it would never load. I even followed the steps on how to activate it. All of my contact photos look bad.
Thanks
Would like to know a better way too besides Google+. I don't want to create an account just to sync pictures...

Huh? Google+ accounts don't have hi-res pics either... Unless you know something I don't.
Plus, given that we all have contacts from various sources, this would be the furthest thing from a solution.
I had the Unlocked One X before I got the ATT version and it was exactly the same deal. I uploaded high res pics for my contacts and when you use Caller ID they look fuzzy, same when your editing them. I've taken pic's using the One X's camera and tried to use those pics as well, same result, fuzzy pictures.
On the other hand I'm using the Pictures Lock screen and I uploaded a bunch of high res pics, like I said and they look great bouncing around on the lock screen. Cool feature
The best way I have found is to download the Friendcaster app and tell it to sync high-rez pics from Facebook.
Here you go:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...J5b3NvZnR3YXJlLmNvbnRhY3RwaG90b3N1cGRhdGVyIl0.
How do you get the app to work, it says no data when I open app. It takes me to the app settings.

Blurry Contact Pictures Discussion

What is everybody doing as a workaround for the blurry contact pictures problem that results from syncing your contacts with gmail?
Sense does a pretty good job of masking the problem in some versions, but it's terrible in AOSP ICS.
Are you all just putting up with it or have you disabled contact syncing with gmail or employed another workaround? I'm curious how everybody is solving this problem for themselves.

When you sync your contacts with gmail tho, doesn't it compress them and make them pixelated? Or does Haxsync bypass this somehow?
I just put up with it. I used to sync with syncmypix then disable the Google sync, but then I decided that having my contacts backed up was more important than having nice pics.
Curious to see if anyone has a good solution to this.
Been using haxsync now for the last 24 hours or so. It seems to work around the gmail sync problem. My pictures are significantly higher quality now, though they could still be clearer.
HTC broke the contact photos in ICS. I use Haxsync too.

It's a server side thing, the only possible 'fix' is if the Gmail team bumps up the contact resolution. The resolution was bumped up in Jellybean but it only works offline, so once you sync then you're back to low res crap.
I just deal with it though, can't be bothered to do something that should have been done in by Google in the first place.

Well that's a bummer. Oh well.
I remember reading somewhere that if you upload your contact pics directly to your Google account via web browser on a PC, the contact pictures come out clear on your phone.
But honestly who could be bothered to do that? Obviously not me since I can't confirm that this workaround actually works.

I tried that once and it doesn't make a difference, they will still blur as soon as you sync

I always use an app called HD Contact Photos, and donated a buck for the extras, it lets you use higher quality photos,up to i believe 512x512 ie Stock Photos for stock ICS and if you are using HTC, you can download Facebook and/or Twitter pics and those will be higher quality, as HTC did somehow break HQ FB pics in ICS
i keep high quality contacts on my SD Card and manually link them. They stay clear and perfect even with Google Syncing.. Though new ROM = lose them and have to do it again...
looking for a way to back them up.
