Froyo.uxjl1 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

New to the forums, and android in general. I tried to search the forums, but maybe I was using the wrong terms, but I was wondering if anyone has been able to root a Galaxy S Captivate running the FROYO.UXJL1 build? I see many, many posts regarding rooting the 2.1 versions and upgrading to Rogers 2.2 ROM, but I want to get RID of the Rogers 2.2. Anyone had any luck with this yet? And if so, any guides to doing it?
Thanks!
[EDIT] My bad, I didn't see there were phone-specific forums, I apologize! [/EDIT]

[Q] Android 2.2.2 Unrootable or NOT YET rootable?

I have found by browsing many people saying that the new Android software 2.2 (I have a new Android phone and have version 2.2.2) is unrootable. I am wondering if this means that this software will never be rootable or if this means that the rooting software is just not available yet. Can I look forward to rooting this phone in the future without buying the S-OFF hardware?
Hell nor heaven has any help for you, use the search tool please, froyo or 2.2 has been rootable for a long time and is by no means the latest. The latest ones are Gingerbread for android phones 2.3 or Honeycomb for Tablets. 3.0. Rooting is also device sepecific not release specific.

no root option on aria
Of course I searched for root options, but it seems that there are few root options for some models, including the HTC Aria that I have. The latest posts on the Aria forum suggest that the new 2.2. update is still not rootable. But perhaps I am not using the optimal keywords for my search? If you have any constructive suggestions for how to search the forums, I would appreciate it.

That only applies to the HTC Aria. Since of the android 2.2.2 update for it, there was an update of the bootloader in that update. The bootloader is locked causing it to be not yet rootable until now. You may expect to see it rootable in the future, but not yet.
P.S. - When you see anything like that said, it is only being said for the device that forum is about (Not in General terms). ALL versions of android are rootable so far... but just not necessarily on all devices e.g. HTC Aria... so far.
A locked bootloader and being able to root the phone are two different things. A locked bootloader limits what sort of system you can start. Root is about privileges in the actual system once it has started. The "root" account is equivalent to the Windows "Administrator" account - you can do whatever, whereas normal accounts can't.
As an example, the Motorola Defy has a locked bootloader, so you can start only Motorola-provided kernels. But rooting the Defy is not a problem. As to what rooting actually brings you, well, certain apps require root privileges and will not work without them.

[Q] n00b questions ... MilkyS MOD

Hi, been reading here for ages, but n00b videos and such have stopped me joining, but now I feel confident enough to move up to a custom ROM with instructions I'm able to follow.
I have a Galaxy S currently running JVQ Europe, although I'm in Australia.
I'd like to use MilkyS MOD but have a question or two first.
Will this go on JVQ?
Lagfix: Am I right in assuming that if I haven't added this, it's not there?
You talk of two versions, Odin and CWN, would one be easier for me than the other?
Please be patient with an old man. I did manage to root this phone when I upgraded 2.2 with 2.3.4 JVP, then JVQ, and I managed to get them on OK, I also changed the region code to Europe ..... but that's the extent of my "knowledge".
As far as I know, although I rooted JVP, I haven't rooted JVQ, so my phone isn't rooted, does this mod root, or need rooting first?
Thanks, Billy
if you post in the galaxy s forum, im sure you will get an answer

Tmobile Radio for official ICS update

I have tried a bunch of radio\modems that worked in GB and cant my phone to recognize one of them on the official ICS. I have also tried several of the ICS modems including blaze, telus, and several others, and can't them to work either. My sim isant found and under baseband version it says "unknown." Does anyone know of a tmobile modem I can get to work on my skyrocket with official ICS? Thanks for any help.
Even your question doesn't make sense ... What is your phone ? what rom are you using ? are you on t mobile SIM or what ? how did you update to ICS ?
Don't just throw 20 words and want an answer ....

If your going to be rude then don't reply to my thread. This isant hard to figure out from what I posted. I am on the skyrocket sgh-i727, hence why im posting in the skyrocket forum. It says in the title, I am on the stock ICS 4.0.4 rom. And I as far as I know there is only one offical 4.0.4 upgrade. And it would only make sense that I have a tmobile sim, hense why I am asking if anyone knows of a working tmobile modem for the official stock ICS rom upgrade. I have had a million phones, been part of a million different parts of XDA, and by far the people in the skyrocket section are the rudest. And before you say it, yes Ive searched, and searched, and searched again, but seeing as how it was just released yesterday, there is not alot of information out about it yet. After some thought, maybe it was possible you thought I was on rogers or something? Do people try to use tmobile modems on rogers versions?I dont know, but thats not important right now. But you could of been nicer about it. People with questions get treated like second class citizens around here. I updated by flashing using ODIN.

[Q] G920VVRU2AOF1 update

Anyone else seeing this update on their Verizon S6? I'm still not sure what it is for. Phone says I still have 5.0.2 but I'm pretty sure that is what I had before.

Sorry guys, I had taken my ambien. Only excuse I have..
Don't upgrade if you're a rooted user!!!!! I'm the one who posted about upgrading yesterday and now I can't downgrade or re-root. I'm stuck with a battery draining, bloated, non-rooted phone until our genius s6 devs come up with a way of rooting.
Help
Hey, you have found a method that works? I have the same version and still can not find anything. If you could answer would very help me.

You can't find anything because there has not been anything found yet to overcome this change.
When someone does, they will start a new thread with the news for all to see.

Just bought this device, looking to install CyanogenMod on it, a few questions

Hey guys, I've been using android for quite a few years now, but when I came upon this forum, I saw a few posts warning of bricked devices. So, just to be sure, I'm looking for a guide on how to flash ROMs safely without bricking it. I looked around quite a bit and can't seem to find any guides for it. I have the i815 Verizon version, by the way. I downloaded CM12.1 already, but I've never used ODIN before. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
