What's the app called that let's me power up/unlock from sleep so I can press volume to unlock and don't have to always press power on top?
Also is there an app that will light up the screen for 10 seconds when a text comes in?

Widgetlocker allows this. It has a lot of customization options. You can even set it up to look stock.

Yeah I downloaded it and is way too bloated for what I'm looking for. I'd just like an app to do the sole function of enabling unlock of the device using the side button. Guess I'll have to stick with the top button to unlock
Thank u tho.

The first app is complicated and bloated, "No Lock" is simple and serves one purpose, to enable the one-click turning on (any button) of the screen. Exactly what I'm looking for. If you can't figure out how to use it (only has 1 button, 1 option), then you shouldn't have a smartphone, but I assume you were referring to Widgetlocker, which was way too bloated for my tastes.
Wait what about light up when you received a SMS or notif. No lie, hadn't realized how accustomed I've become to that being an iPhone convert.

The light flashes when you get an SMS. I too wanted the screen to light up tho, so I installed GO SMS app (free), it does just that, replaces the whole text app, read up on it.
I'm using Handcent SMS. Screen lights up and a quick-reply window is there ready for you.

NO LED is good
There's an app called 'NO LED" for Samsung phones that works for the Inspire as well. It lights up and put an icon on the screen when you get an email or sms can be set as a reminder - works great. Enable Accessability and check of the apps you want to monitor
Handcent SMS has an option to show on top of the lockscreen when a text arrives and I love it so far...

I've used TeslaLED on my other phones with success. On the G2X it acts weird. It'll toggle on and off most of the time, but it's extremely delayed, and the widget and notification widget don't show I turned it off.
Anybody know of one that works good with this phone?

LED Light FTW...Search for LED Light in the market and it comes up as tiny flashlight + led...thats the one
I use one called "Magnify."
It not only is handy as a flashlight, but acts as a magnifying glass (with the camera) to help do things like read small print.
I found Tiny + the other day, it works fine but IMO it a pain to use.
On the Nexus One there was an app call Nexus One Flashlight, it was a simple one slot widget that would toggle the LED on and off with a single touch. I kept it on my center screen and used it all the time.
I'd like to find a flashlight app that toggles the G2x's flash on and off with a single touch.

That one works well for me also. No widget, but a shortcut to it does just fine. Just press the back button to turn off.
+1 for Tiny Flashlight + LED
I use the widget and it's one touch on, one touch off. Widget is only 1x1. Perfection.
I simply use Google Goggles. I never need the LED light for long so I don't mind the camera running with it for a little.
I've been using Tiny+ myself. Widget works fine and haven't really had much trouble with fc's. Anyone know of a way to use the hardbuttons (volume up, down) to activate the led? Or better yet, an app that already does that?
For those that aren't aware, kinda cool thing I found when researching what com.lge.hiddenmenu was. From the Optimus 2x thread located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-991449.html
I'd like to stress the following that was mentioned -
Enjoy the vast amount of options and tests in there, and be careful as some are destructive.
I love the torch flashlight and dimming the capacitive buttons..
Well this one isn't so difficult but I though I'd share for those that have not worked it out yet.
The LG Device Test "HiddenMenu" is apparently on all shipping phones and it's simply disabled via removing the menu entry.
To activate you need to create a shortcut to this hidden menu. You can do this with most replacement launchers and apps like BetterCut.
Example using LauncherPro (others will use a similar method):
Long press on home screen
Select Shortcuts
Select Activities
Scroll down to and expand com.lge.hiddenmenu
Select HiddenMenu (first entry)
Enter Shortcut name
Click on shortcut to launch
Hit 'Thanks' below
Also now Logcat app:
As above
Scroll down to and expand LG Debug
Select LG Debug (first entry)
Enter Shortcut name
Click on shortcut to launch
Hit 'Thanks' below
Enjoy the vast amount of options and tests in there, and be careful as some are destructive.
Perhaps Useful:
Dim Capacitive Buttons: Device Test | Touch LED Brightness
Turn on Camera LED: Device Test | Camera Test | Torch Flashlight Preview

Np. There's a lot of stuff in there! I love reducing battery usage with the menu lights. Got it turned all the way down. Every little bit helps!
For ADW Launcher, it is as follows:
Long press on homescreen
Select "Custom shortcut"
Select "Pick your activity"
Select "Activites"
Then it's the same as the OP described above. Seems to be a bit more menu work to get to it through ADW lol

Do you know what the "destructive" menus are? There are a ton of menus/sub-folders in that hidden menu... I would hate to mess with the wrong thing.
Have any of you heard of more tech-y, back end stuff that might be worth tweaking with this? Most of the sub-folders are just acronyms that I have no clue about. It would be cool if an engineer checked it out and looked for some diamonds in the rough!

I wouldn't call it fixing the root issue. I just downloaded and installed the app and it required root permission to make the file writable and has to do so at every boot. So if you are not rooted it will not work on 2.3.3 on our device.

No it is not possible. LG changed the permissions on the file that controls the soft key lights in Gingerbread. It is now a read only file. In order to write to it and turn on the lights you must be rooted so the app can change the permissions.

No. it basically turns your screen on when you get a notification and shows icons depending on what you have...mail..txt..etc. It keeps the screen on until you check it (i think you can set it on a timer tho). But yeah..its a battery drain.

There's a link in the thread I started about the application for notification toggles in this sub-forum. As to your question about the text things. Your phone lights up while you're texting? That's kind of normal don't you think. The screen coming on when the text comes in is a stock messaging thing. Nothing that can be done except installing a custom messaging application, as far as I know, I like that it lights up.
