Ok, so I just rooted and so far so goo. I used mybackup to restore all of my contacts, images, home screen, etc... then I get this popup telling me to force close every few minutes and so I do some research and I have to go in and clear my contacts, this works to get rid of the popup and so I'm happy, but It's too bad cuz all of the other contacts I had that aren't on facebook are now gone. I wen't onto my gmail account and they are all there. So my question is: How do I sync all of my contacts back? I already went into the account and sync to make sure that the contacts are selected under google. I would appreciate any help and please don't get mad at me for not looking around, because I always do my research. This is actually the first forum I've ever posted looking for help. THANKS!!

Ok, so I'm having a sync problem. I know it has nothing to do with the rom I'm using but after quite a bit of searching I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. (must not be using the right terms)
After a clean flash of Saga 1.0.1 last night I restored my contacts from a backup I made within people. This morning when I got up I had some duplicates & even triples of contacts but not all, kinda weird. I've had this happen in WM on my Tilt2 when I sync'd on multiple pc's but that's not the case here and when it happened then it would be all contacts not random ones. Another odd thing that happened is a couple of received mms's got sent back to the sender. I think it must have something to do with Gmail and/or Htcsense.com
Well when I got to work I sync'd with my pc then cleaned up everything in outlook & wiped contact storage on the phone thinking that I would just resync with the pc and all would be good. Not! When I tried to sync with HTC Sync it will not load the contacts to my phone and Gmail would not add them back either.
Also, being the moron I am, I had also deleted the backup on the sdcard because there were several linked contacts and I wanted to start from a clean slate. The only way I could find to sync back up with the pc was to do a FDR and select manual syncing in the setup. Is there a better way of going about this?
The pc is running 32bit win7 & I'm using outlook 07. Any help will be much appreciated!!

okay this seems REALLY confusing. to clear some things up, what all does your phone sync to (htc, google?, outlook?), and where are your contacts stored that's kinda like your home base for contacts from which everything is synced? Outlook, or google?
also, your google account on your phone, is it the android google account? or do you have a separate exchange server set up?
and yeah, if you try a FDR, let me know what happens with this. that might just be a good way to clean up all the residual stuff...

When I initially got the phone I used HTC Sync to pull office 07 contacts from my work pc. Since then I've been using a vcard backup on my sdcard. I also had google setup to sync with as it also restores apps, wallpaper, etc after flashing. I thought that google would ignore existing contacts, it did for some and not others.
The google account is the gmail account I setup when I got the phone.
The FDR did work and everything is fine now but I want to be sure it doesn't happen again the next time I flash a rom.

Where does google store the info at? When I log into my gmail account on my pc there are no contacts stored. If I'm going to let google be my "home base" I'd like to be able to edit it. At the same time how safe is the data? I have birthdays, anniversaries, addresses and so on in my contacts.
This is my first android phone. It's funny that I had no problem rooting, flashing, adding themes or side loading but the **** that's supposed to be simple is what's f'ing me up.
I have Rooted my phone but now every time i sync contacts through google it adds more and more to it. I have one contact that is on my phone like 40 times now others are 20. I just want to be able to se the list my phone is gettting my contacts from and edit it all. I went to gmail but the only thing that was there were emails no phone numbers....
Ok my contacts just jumped by 250 and i havent added anyone. Where do i go to manually fix this because i dont have 1400 contacts....

im having the same problem. When i log into the computer it only show 322 contacts but the phone shows 782.

im having a problem with my contacts as well. its a little different though. if i add contacts to my phone, it will not back them up to google contacts. i lost every contact i made in the past 4 weeks when i rooted and installed a BAMF. i did the manual sync before i started, but didnt get any thing to my google account

When adding contacts to your phone you need to make sure you change the first option to sync with your Google account. For some reason it defaults to phone and if you don't switch it, it won't sync. It would be sweet if any of the devs could make a mod so it defaults to your Google account.

thanks. ill make sure i do when if i ever go back to stock. the new bamf asks me whenever i select to create a new contact. cool stuff.

I'm guessing you have 460 phone contacts and 322 Google contacts on your phone.
Are you also syncing with your PC?
I would export your contacts to your sdcard (just in case) then delete all of your contacts and re-sync with Google.
I personally don't sync my contacts with Google.

Its syncing anyone who has sent you an email basically, there is a setting in gmail to change it but have to be logged in to full site via pc or mac or the phone's browser

duplicate contacts
i had duplicates upon duplicates for every number in my phone. for anyone else with this problem, and a google account, just sync all your contacts to your google account. go on your gmail from a computer. on the top left of the screen under "gmail by google" click on contacts. from there, click on "more actions" (right above the phone numbers) then click on "find and merge duplicates". then sync your contacts again and there you go, one phone number per contact! i hope this info is useful to someone else. i just wish i knew about this back in the good 'ol G1 days lol. but i guess thats what happens when cell phones replace computers ha!
hey, i was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this on custom ROMs.
the fact that it doesnt give you "tips" on what facebook user go to this/that contact. tried 3 diferent roms and they never give me pairing contacts with facebook friends. have anyone of you guys noticed this?
and for some reason after i install ROMs the pictures on contacts dissapear and when i sync facebook with contacts, it wont add pictures no matter what i do. even when i pair them up myself
Try the app "photo unlocker" to the photo.
It's never given me tips regardless of the ROM I'm using. And when I sync my contacts, I have to join them myself, FB connect to phone number. Half the time contacts force closes when joining. It can be frustrating. I tried an app called hacksync but it made a huge mess of everything. I uninstalled it, and uninstalled the official FB app. I use friend cast now and everything is cool. My pics show up in contacts and Tango syncs nicely. If I have to manually sync something, I don't get the force close anymore.
ill try those alternatives. i have my contacts synced to gmail, so if it screws it up it wont be such a hazzle. and "nice" to see that im not the only one having this problem

i found a way to do it, but its manual and takes ages. you have to sync all, then manually add theyre facebook to the contact. if say you have them linked and there is no picture, unlink them and add again. if there was a number to someone you didnt allready have in contacts and you didnt get a photo, link that facebook contact to a phone contact, but before you actually do that (before the accept screen) click not to confirm and back and it will pull the picture. its a tedious process, but it works. now i dont know if the pictures persist if you change the rom, but time will tell.
so i just updated to cleanrom 7 and after i opened facebook and it asked if you want to sync contacts with facebook. I have never done this before and did not mean to but got ahead of myself and hit ok too fast. So today i was trying to call a good friend and went to his contact but facebook had deleted his number because i assume he doesnt have it on his facebook page.
is there some way to undo this or do i need to reinstall the rom?
i have already gone to settings and put it to "do not sync"

I tried to find something similar but to the best of my searching abilities, nobody seems to be having the same issue.
I've been using an HTC One (a GNex before that) for the last few months. When I got it, like my other previous Android phones, at the initial setup it pulled down all of my contacts.
When I set up my N5, however, the contact list was the last one from my GNex! The hundreds of new contacts since then are not on the new phone. It's enough to make me want to just sell the phone instead of going through each contact individually.
On my HTC one in the People app it shows 494 contacts under my gmail address, and last sync was a few minutes ago. On the N5 I don't get the same screen, but I have a total of 123 people in the app, and it shows that it has synced with my gmail.
Does anyone know what's going on here, and how to get my contacts onto the N5?

You probably saved your new contacts on the htc on the phone not on google...
Change them to google or export them all and import into google.
ALSO, make sure you had the htc one set to sync contacts...settings..accounts...google...click on your email..

My contacts are saved to Google. In my People app on the HTC, When I click to choose source, "Google (my email)" is selected, with 495 contacts.
As I said in the original post, everything is synced, and the last sync was a few minutes before the post.
I tried the export and import but all that did was double the number of contacts under my Google account (gmail address).
Is there anything else I can try?
I am currently using an iPhone 4 and the idiots at Apple have removed the option to export contacts to Google in their iTunes program... SO now I have installed a little app called Bump, that should help me transfer all my contacts to the new Nexus 5 when i get it. You can try it with your two phones if you like. Seems pretty simple, however i have never used it yet...

well if what you said is true, you should be in the htc one forum, not the nexus 5. Apparently your htc is what messed up.
I really have to go with user error here, its pretty basic stuff. I highly doubt your htc one failed to sync contacts even though it was set to sync google contacts...if so..you are the "one."
I know that sounds rude, but, really.....its basic stuff here.

Hey whatever happened to the OP's problem ? Did he/she fix it ? I have recently transferred all my contact from my iPhone to my new N5 with absolutely no problems with this app. I can confirm it works like a charm and totally recommend it. It takes less then 10 seconds to complete everything. The actual transfer took like 1 second !!!
I have a similar issue.
I too am coming from an HTC One, but I don't think that's the problem in my case. I've logged into my Nexus 5 using my Google credentials, but none of my Google contacts are appearing. I checked my contacts list in Gmail from my laptop to be sure, and all my contacts are there. I went back to my Nexus 5 and manually synced contacts in the settings, but nothing changed; my contacts are still not showing up.
I would love to know if anyone has found a resolution to this issue.
Have you made sure that "Auto-sync app data" is checked off,
"All contacts" is selected in Contacts to display,
and "Contacts" is checked off in your Gmail sync account.
Are you using a corporate Google account? You may need to ask your administrator for help.
Did you log into http://contacts.google.com and see if they are shown there? If so they must also be in My Contacts which the HTC might not be setting. Also on your phone, check settings and then check if they are in another folder just not being displayed.
