Sometimes when i am listening to music the left channel will short out on my headphones. Going on and off.... would this be a software problem by any chance?

Are you sure your headphone cord isn't the problem by trying it in another source and swinging it around?
Sorry if this seems like an insulting question, just checking the easy answer.

I just recently noticed that my g2x plays songs perfectly through the music player without any distortion but if i apply a mp3 as a ringtone it becomes distorted when i receive calls. i know its not just the file because i have tried multiple songs. anyone else have this problem? any help is appreciated thanks!
I've noticed the same thing. In fact, I have to lower the volume of my ringtone below maximum, or it is weird sounding. But when I play the same mp3 through Music player, I can be full volume without any distortion.
Anyone know of a fix?

i have the same issue as well... if you're using cm7 there is dsp manager so you might want to play around with the settings. I haven't been able to yet, but you might give that a shot.
just fyi i have this problem on both stock and cm7
Same problem here. It almost sounds like the woofer is blown or something. My 10 year old Nokia has better speakers than my G2X.

And it doesn't seem to be a function of whether the speaker sucks or not...because when you play the same mp3 file through any media player, it sounds fine. But when a call is coming in at the same time that the mp3 is being played, it's distorted. It's almost as if the phone is using all of it's resources for the phone call, and only allocating a fraction of what it would normally allow to play the mp3.
I think you are on to something here. I'm surprised there is no fix to this problem yet. Does it not bother everyone else?

Have you found any fix for this, guys?
This phone is REALLY getting annoying... BSOD everytime, distorted ringtone, slow loading and freezes... Duh, wish I waited more and took the SGS2...
Anyone know if it's just mp3's as ringtones that are affected? How about ogg's? If noone else has tried, I"ll try later on.
After updating too ginger bread the phone Mic is mute after using head phones. Have to restart phone to use Mic. Any ideas?

I have a random request. Could someone please download and install the game Pirates of the Caribbean: Master of the Seas on their Blaze? I am getting a crackling sound that sounds like a blown speaker whenever I click on anything in the game. It happens with both the external speaker and with headphones. I haven't noticed it on any other games, apps, music, etc.
I even took the phone back to the store and replaced it with a new one, but the same problem persists. I'm guessing it's this specific game, but wanted to see if one of you could verify it for me with your phone. Thanks in advance to anyone who can test this for me.

On my end music sounds fine. The selection noise sounds crackily.

Ok. Thanks for testing for me. Yeah, that "selection" crackling is the same I'm getting as well. The background music sounds fine, but whenever you "click/select" a button in the game, the audio crackles.
I contacted their tech support and they suggested I try updating to the latest version of Android. Haha. I guess one day I may be able to see if that solves the problem.

Sounds to me like we might need an audio tweak... let's see what i can pound out this weekend after i get this current project finished up...

I'd start a bounty for voodoo sound lol

Turns out their tech support was right. After updating to ICS, the audio crackling in the game is gone. Thanks again for testing for me.

On CM9.1, I have used both a wired headset and bluetooth, and don't have the issue. If bluetooth, it could be that the headset is being used for media only instead of a full headset. This would result in the mic not being recognized.
Maybe I buy a Bluetooth headset then, if I do I got to get the dual device ones.
