I'm using VEGAn 5.11 rom. I'm having problem setting up my google voice using my existing google account. During verify phone number, I select one of the phone number listed in my account. Select option "Use Google Voice to make calls". The next screen is "Set up voicemail". The error comes up is "Your voicemail settings could not be loaded. Please try again". After I press either button, ok or skip, it got stuck. None of the options in google voice work. If I go back out to home then get back to google voice, it get right back to the frozen screen. I have to reboot to restart google voice but still could not get pass this point. Please help!!!!
I experienced the same thing with Vegan, but not with TnT Lite. Try this thread, see if it helps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959310
I see this every time I flash a new ROM. If you're having the same trouble...
Search for Google Voice in the market. If it isn't there... do the market fix then search for it again. Go ahead and install it again. The screen that was hanging before will now have a "Skip" button.

If I turn on my phone, Voice will work for texts for a while, but eventually it'll stop delivering new messages to me. On the right side of "Inbox" in Google Voice, I'll see that refresh animation but it will never stop. Then, I reboot my phone and it works and then eventually stops again.
It's been like this for a couple months. It worked a little better when I rooted my phone a month ago (haven't used any MOD's yet), but now it's back to doing that more often. I eventually had to enable notify via text message in the Google Voice settings, just to get messages.
Has anyone had this problem or have any idea on how to fix it? Thanks.
try going into manage apps, and clear the data for google voice. After that when you run google voice, you'll probably have to go through the initial setup of google voice again. It might help, or might not. Either way, it only takes a couple minutes to try.
If that doesn't help, then it might be problem with your rom, or some other app.
Thanks for that. It seems to be working so far. I'll just have to do it whenever I have a problem from now on.
So i installed the Sky ICS version 6.9.2z update and i still can't google voice to work, it hasn't worked since i installed Sky ICS at all... well it installs fine and everything but everytime it goes to allow google request when i hit the allow button it locks up for 10 seconds or so and crashes back to the home screen, it doesn't say force close or anything like that. I have tried clearing caches permissions and everything i can think of... why won't it let me allow request? also, visual voicemail doesn't every work either says incorrect password but i really don't want that anyway... i want Google Voice! So, if anyone has any ideas i could try please let me know, i would greatly appreciate it!
I've also had this problem. I think I fixed it by going to Settings > Call and make sure the voicemail service is "My Carrier" then set it back as Google voice.
If that didn't work uninstall google voice, go to Settings > Call and make sure the voicemail service is "My Carrier" then install google voice again and run through the setup. Should solve it.
I followed the steps you suggested but i still cannot get it to work... the carrier is set as google voice but when i click voice it just tries to go through the setup again and crashes. If i click google voice setting under settings>call>voicemail - settings for Google Voice it just runs through the setup again...Thank you for your suggestions though!
Have you tried the manual settings given on google voice settings page.
I think something like enter ##0040# press call and it will forward...
Yeah, i did manually put those numbers in and got confirmation that it was forwarding to my phone but google voice itself still just crashes when i get allow this request and "click" Allow it freezes for like 10 seconds goes black screen for several seconds then back at the home screen... then next time i click google voice it goes back to the setup again.
I think that everyone has the notification error where it says that the update was unsuccessful. After I see that I always click on my google voice number then back out and it just works. But it sounds like your program is crashing before you even get the unsuccessful msg.
Try moving your GV apk to the internal SD after you wipe data then uninstall from the applications page. In fact goto applications page from settings find GV wipe data, then uninstall and boot to recovery. Now in recovery wipe dalvik x2, wipe cache partition x2, reboot android and goto into rom manager and fix permisions. then goto the market my apps and download GV to install GV either to the internal SD card or the external SD if u have.. point is to try a different path.
If none of that works then I suggest that you re format your internal SD and system but make sure to have your base ROM waiting within reach of CWM.
If you end up going this route then take your time and DO NOT use TitaniumBackup for anything, and uncheck restore system from within the privacy page. Build your foundation slowly on top of the fresh format and back up that solid base with only essentials to cwm.
best of luck
Well, i followed all that and still get the same thing... i was hoping it wouldn't come to starting over but Voice is important to me. It worked just fine on every ROM on my captivate grr so frustrating... My main concern is i don't know how i can do any cleaner of an install than i just did... i just got the phone and never set up the stock ROM at all and the first thing i did is follow the SKY ICS don't complain about FCs guide to get it as clean as possible and then i installed the ROM... There was no backup or restoring anything except i guess from whatever google settings were backed up. I might have to try a different ROM. Well, thanks for all your guys help!
So i downloaded and installed gReader last night and this also has the same Allow Request screen... this freezes, crashes back to home screen just like google voice so it has nothing to do with google voice itself, there is something very wrong... i feel like it has trouble getting permission from my gmail account?
Just an update, i did a format/clean install without anything backed up... Now it all works!
nice! Format, fresh install.. did you uncheck 'backup to Google' in privacy tab?
that was the straw that broke the stubborn androids back from my experience.

actually i was debating back and forth but yes i decided to keep backup checked and keep whatever google has backed up and fortunately everything works flawlessly so far!

I'm pretty sure that the stock launcher is opening, so here's a solution.
1.) Go to market.android.com
2.) Search for Go Launcher
3.) Copy the Link in your address bar
4.) Paste link in an email and send it to YOURSELF
5.) Use the initial set up screen to set up an email account.
6.) Wait for a notification to pop up saying that you have received emails.
7.) Click notifications (should open email)
8.) Click on the email you sent to yourself
9.) Click on the link, and option to go to market should pop up. So click that.
10.) Download the launcher from the link.
11.) Hit the home button after it installs.
12.) You should be taken to your homescreen!!
You can't skip setting up a Google account... go ahead and make one, it's quick and easy. If you mean the "setup accounts" dialogue that comes up after you select a google acount... that should not be force closing.
If it's the setup accounts dialog that comes up then I can walk you through an external factory reset, and, if that doesn't work, look at the noob thread for how to flash an fxz.

@cogeary, The same exact thing happened to me. The problem was that I did a factory reset and I froze the stock launcher. So when I started up, I couldn't do anything because I didn't have a working launcher. So what I ended up doing was sending a link to the market so myself, than using that to download GO Launcher.
I am mad as hell.
I wanted to enable Google Now but in Google Settings I receive the message "Google Now requires location services which are not available".
Googled, found several "hacks", great. I tried the one where you unistall updates/disable Google Play services, etc... and I get the message to activate Google Now, but when I choose so and login with my email I get "This account is not eligible to use google now".
I tried this with 2 different gmail accounts, always get the same message. There are no info on Google about this problem.
Anyone has any idea how to enable google now? I need it, I love it, and I think I am going to break my nexus 5 if I can't have it.
By the way, I am on the latest developer L build (didn't work on 4.4.4 too, I kinda updated only because of the hope that it may work on L).
Also, on my Nexus 7 (2012) google now works great although I am using the same gmail account.
Any help is appreciated!
Uhhhhh.......
Turn on location? Why don't you try that and report back.

Google Location services are not available in all countries (which is fine) but Google Now shouldn't explicitly need location services. Location services are not available in my country and Google Now still works with no problems on my Nexus 5 and worked on my Nexus 7 (2013) before I updated to the L Developer preview (using the Play Services - Uninstall updates trick) and still shows me location weather information, appointments, news updates, delivery updates, time to work.home, time to get to the location of my next appointment, etc... all without being able to enable location services. I don't understand why Google would limit their service when it clearly works with no problem but has no problems pushing out beta apps to everyone which clearly have issues (new hangouts desktop app).
The Play Services trick did not work on 5.0 for me either. If I do find a way around it I'll let you know.
UPDATE: Managed to get it working with the following steps:
1. Logged out of Google search app
2. Uninstall Play Services updates
3. Connect to a Free UK VPN (I used this: http://www.bestukvpn.com/)
4. Ask Google to remind you of something and select the opt in to Google Now option
5. Go through the steps to enable Google now.
6. When you get the "This account is not eligible to use Google now" click on search bar and search for anything
7. Open the hamburger menu while in search (click on the menu icon or slide from the left)
8. You will notice that you are not signed in. Select sign in and select your account.
9. Viola you will get the opt in to Google now option again and you should then have Google Now
That's what worked for me. Ask Google to remind you of something to make sure its working. Hope this helps .

Did you try creating a reminder using Google Now after the 8th step. Make sure you are still connected to the VPN. You have to open chrome after connecting to the VPN to verify the connection. A simple search should bring up a window to accept the VPN terms and conditions.

I am connected to the VPN, I can confirm by searching for my IP, it says I got a London IP.
After the 8th step when I try to create a reminder (remind me to thank johnmall1441) nothing happens... in fact, the program closes itself like it was killed. I don't have another device currently to record the screen and show what I am doing and what happens...

Location Services
Hi all, this morning I went into Google Search settings and I could finally enable Google Location Services. This is what was blocking Google Now. With it enabled you shouldn't have to jump through hoops to opt-in. Try checking your location services settings in the Google Search app . They may have enabled it for a number of new countries.
Quick Tip: If the opt-in screen doesn't show up automatically, sign-out and sign-in in the Google Search app. Hope this helps.
Still not eligible ?
Tried v p ns and airplane mode

How to uninstall google play services updates? I only saw disable option.
I'm frustrated... All methods I can find not working, it used to be easy to turn on google now in 4.4.4.

The only option is to disable play service and by doing so it removes the google account altogether in official lollipop build.
couldnt get google now in lollipop!!!!
Cant get google now by applying any of the fixes above!!!!!!!common you can do better than this????
the above solution does not work. I performed a full wipe and install of latest lollipop release. I have no uninstall updates button. Only "Force Stop" and "Disable" both greyed out. Not rooted.
hopefully a solution will appear soon.
Finally Got Google Now Working in Lollipop_Nexus 4
1. Switch Off the Phone
2. Remove sim card
3. Do a Hard Reset
4. Skip Wifi Settings and everything else
5. Once skipped all the settings steps, deactivate Location
6. Activate Wifi
7. Use VPN (bestukvpn Posted by jonmall1441)
8. Activate google now and add your google account
9. Enjoy!!!!!!!

Hey All, my google assistant on my pixel 2 stock rooted June patch on verizon is having odd behavior. It seems that localized commands will work such as, "hey google, what is the weather" or "okay google, turn off mobile data".
When i ask something that requires assistant to go out to thew web for results, it will recognize the command but then it will show the three dots as if it's searching but never return results. Another strange thing is that when i ask it to call my voicemail, it will do the same thing but if i turn off mobile data, it will make the call .
i've tried clearing google app data and cache. i've also taken the SIM out and put it back in but the issue persists.
anyone else ever experience this? any suggestions?
i re-downloaded and re-flashed the system image. issue persists.
Fixed it. Needed to uninstall the Google app updates. I updated again via the n play store and it continued to work
