Xoom Portrait Mode as default - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
is there an app or someway to force portrait mode as default? Thanks.

Put the xoom in portrait mode and lock the orientation.

Is there an app for that? I see one in setting, but it just puts it back in landscape mode. Thanks.

What he just said is correct. I just checked and it worked. No need for an app.

In ParanoidAndroid settings there should be an option to turn them off. Maybe in the hybrid settings?

You can use button remapper. Set all actions to "focus". But i suggest doing a nandroid backup because when you enable them again you lose vibrate on press.
Edit: Uploaded to dropbox just in case anyone else wants it. Download here

Couldn't care less about vibrate on press. I get a 404 on your APK link, but I found the original link. THANKS, works like a charm.

CM10 - any way to keep screen on while power plugged in?

The screen timeout modes only let you set various timeouts... but I'd like to have an easy way to make the screen stay always-on for when I'm in the car. It works all right for GPS apps because they force it, but google music still turns off

there are other ways to do it, but I use the app "My Settings Pro" to set the screen timeout to never, works perfectly.
Does it give you a way to do it as a quick toggle? Like I said, I don't want this always... just when I'm in the car.. and even so... something automated would be nice.

I made a dock shortcut to open the app with one click.
The app gives a screen with a bunch of toggles for settings: ringer mode>screen brightness>lock screen on/off>WiFi on/off>GPS on/off>Bluetooth on/off>AutoSync on/off>auto rotate on/off>screen timeout>Airplane Mode on/off>network mode etc.etc.etc.
I have used it in my last 4 phones, it is one of the first apps I always install after a ROM flash.
Another way would be to use widgetsoid and a screen timeout toggle to accomplish this. You can make it toggle pretty much any settings you want.

Yes, I have done it that way also.
WidgetSoid is a handy app also.

That option doesn't seem to work at times (that's why I didn't mention it)
Mine will still go out with that option selected at times.
That screen awake option seems to work for me.

Never had a problem with this option. If I'm plugged in the the screen stays on.
just curious but isnt that just asking for a burn in?

Talking text notification

Ok, first of all I know this is going to sound dumb. The other day when I'd get a text message my phone would tell me with a voice that I've received a message and who it was from. Now it's not doing it. It just started doing it then stopped after a few days Did I turn off a setting or something? I'm stock rooted with Google now and wallet. Any ideas?
That's either driving mode or you messed with the accessibility settings. It's more than likely that you activated Driving Mode which is the notification bar and is very easy to tap accidently.

Yup, probably driving mode (although I don't know what driving mode is supposed to do other than announce texts/calls)

I'd also like to know why they have put in a separate switch for this.. shouldn't it be incorporated into the dock mode?

Because not everyone has a dock for their phone when driving.
I had this happen to me when i pressed anything while in chrome. I guess it was "Missed It!" interfering or something. Weird.

Trying to run apps and games in fullscreen automatically

Hey guys,
I've searched the net and couldn't find a solution to my problem. I'm trying to run certain applications and games in full screen, I don't want to go into the quick settings each time I want to go in full screen. Is there a way either using xposed or otherwise to enable automatic full screen? Sadly immersive mode in gravitybox doesn't work with the shield.
I don't know why Nvidia didn't enable this feature under their power control settings, I'd expect to see that right below Resolution Rendering but nope... It's kind of an essential feature.
Thanks and happy New years!
Hi,
Maybe a Xposed mod?
I checked already...no

App Settings has an option to launch an app in immersive mode (http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.mods.appsettings)
But, I don't know if it's compatible with Marshmallow.
I'm currently running the LTE 32gb version so no marshmallow for me yet. Immersive mode doesn't work, does it work for you? I think Nvidia shut off immersive mode in place of their full screen mode. I'm just wondering how to activate full screen mode without actually having to go into the app. I even tried using Tasker's autoimput plugin too..to no avail. I tried App settings and gravity box, neither of them work. Immersive mode just doesn't work.

If this does't work.... I haven't tried yet App Settings.
I think, for now, you have to activate the full screen mode manually from the quick settings panel
Meh...yeah I guess I'll have to do that for now, I'll keep at it with autoimput.
Merci mate!

Yeah! Happy New Year you too
Since the shield has immersive support/Fullscreen support build in maybe we can get this working with tasker somehow ?
app settings 1.11 and 1.13 works fine on LP and I would assume on MM as well, assuming you have the correct xposed installed for your OS.
both are unofficial, do a search here on xda to find it.
I use it on my LTE shield with 5.11 to fullscreen apps automagically with zero issues.
if that is too much to deal with for whatever reason, there is also this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.hidesoftkeys

Rotate Screen

Does anyone know how to get the screen to rotate to where the USB c plug is at the top. I've checked rotate in the settings and it rotates in both landscape positions but cannot get it to rotate in portrait? I use the pixel in my car and it sits on the angled dash but cannot hook up the power cord because it's on the bottom where it sits. Thanks

@jreink01 - Dude, I think the best way for you to do this would be to install a different launcher. I believe Nova Launcher will allow you to choose rotation angles of 90, 180, & 270...so pretty much everything you'd need to view your phone at whatever angle your cables require.

I believe so, you can always try it. Is there any specific your concerned about not rotating? I can try it for you possibly.

Not really any specific app, just would like the ability for them all to rotate if I need to open one up. If you can if you have nova launcher installed, can you check your various apps to see if it works in that launcher? Thanks so much.

sorry man, there used to be an option to allow rotation of 180° but I don't see it now. All I can get anything to rotate is 90°. Don't think I'm missing a setting but, I may be.

Hold your finger on the Home screen until the options open up -
Settings > Look & Feel > Screen Orientation
Set to Auto-rotate
You also have to ensure that in your system settings you have it set to allow rotation.
System settings > Display > When device is rotated
Set to "Rotate the contents of the screen"
I've done all that, still will not rotate, spoke to Google support, they are sending a update, specifically to my phone which they said should fix the issue.

Just to be sure, you've also checked the box under Accessibility settings to allow screen rotation, right?
Also, recomhub.com has an article on this that suggests checking to see if your accelerometer and gyroscope are working correctly. The dialer code is:
*#0*#
Under the service mode screen, tap on "sensors" and do a self test.
Their only other recommendation if your carrier locked you out of that service screen is to do a hard reset. That's also been known to fix the screen rotation issue, but at the cost of losing your data. So make a backup if you go that route.
That is checked under accessibility settings, I also tried the service menu, but was unable to get that to work. I'm on the sprint Network. After talking with Google support, they said that sprint would not have changed the service menu by using their sim card and activating the phone. Don't understand why that service menu won't work. I don't want to do a factory reset as it took me quite awhile to get the phone setup the way I want it. Thanks for your feedback in trying to help.

@jreink01 - interestingly enough, the Maps app rotated 180° for me yesterday. So, I'm guessing the determining factor is going to be whether or not the particular app you're using supports that orientation.
Edit: it only works or goes 180° during actual navigation.
