[Q] SD Card not locking in? - G Tablet General

Received my tab and everything seems to be going great except when I attempted to insert my Micro SD card. The card never seems to click in and I have tried 3 different cards.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a known malfunction?

The card goes in quite far before it locks.. I needed to use a mechanical pencil point to get it ti seat well.

I just had the same issue, then was able to get it to stay in by having my daughter use the tip of her long fingernail to push it in. It finally clicked & locked. I hope this helps!

Well you have just made me blush, problem solved and boy do I feel stupid.
Thank you, I was about to contact woot which would have put a damper on my day.

SD card gets "lost"?

On the average once a day my phone "loses" the SD card. Things will be working fine, but then suddenly it won't be able to find the apps I've got installed to my ext2 partition, nor will it be able to see the fat32 partition.
When it happens, I've got to shut the phone down, take out and reseat the card.
I've swapped out my sd card and tried another one and it's exhibiting the same behavior, so I don't think that's the issue. Seems to have started happening around the time I installed the JF 1.43 update.
Anybody else having this issue? Or could it be that my phone's just starting to go bad?
sounds like hardware to me :-/
hopefully someone has a tip you can try

That's what it sounds like to me. It's annoying but usable at this point. If it gets worse, though, I guess I'll have to send it back and get a refurb unit.
I had the same problem with the sdcard the phone came with but it went away after upgrading it.
I had this problem too and what I've found may sound really stupid, but keep in mind it's an observation, not a statement of fact...
It seems that the SD card is REALLY sensative to temperature. I live in Vancouver and over the the winter, we've had anything from below zero to above, I've noticed that whenever the phone was in the cold, the SD card would never stay mounted, but recently in the warm weather, the I haven't had a single problem with it becoming "lost" sounds stupid, but it could be your problem to if you live in a colder climate. Mind you it still gets lost, but a simple reseat of the SD card normally fixes this for me.
Meeker
I've had a similar issue wasnt sure what was causing it. The I noticed that I fiddle with the sdcard door. After doing that the card wouldnt show up anymore so i think I dislodged it slightly. Never know could be the issue.

Micro SD card wont stay in...

Got me a Gtab today and the micro sd card wont stay in. I push it in all the way, with the contacts to the back of the device and she just keeps popping out. I tried another card and it did the same.
Whats the trick to keep the micro sd card in the slot ?
David
There is no trick - once you insert it all the way in, it should "click" into place. You might actually have a defective device.

Push it further into the slot by a couple of millimeters, below the top of the slot.
Then you will here the "click".
Thanks...that worked! Used something to push it in further than my nail could reach and she stayed in.
Thanks guys
I have the same issue. At first I thought it wasn't being pushed in far enough, but even bottomed out it would not click. I have a friend who had the same problem and his magically worked one time and he hasn't taken it out since.
I found that if I come in at a little bit of an angle I can hear a very quiet snap, then when I take it back out and put it in normally I get the normal click and it stays put. I have repeated this numerous times. It is almost like the internal clip sticks to the side and needs to be convinced to pop back out a bit so the card can actually engage it.
Of course this is all conjecture, I have no clue how the locking mechanism actually works nor can I see in the slot well enough to see if there is something funny going on in there. So my observation is purely touch, feel and sound based. I would be interested if anyone has a different opinion or suggestion as I'm a bit afraid to pop the card for fear it will not go back in the next time.
I've had several GTAB's and never had a problem, but it takes a bit of trial and error to get it just right. The sad part is that they could have moved the mechanism just a bit and allowed the SD to protrude, and it probably would have fixed this problem.
I can't cut my nails, for fear that I won't be able to get the darn thing out.

I used a screwdriver to get mine in. You really have to push it in quite a bit farther than you would think necessary to get it to lock.
One word......toothpick. Does the job nicely, cheap and disposable. Plus, you can walk around looking like Dusty Baker.

Problems with MicroSD card

Hey guys, I've been having problems with my memory card lately. The one that came with the phone got damaged (due to me putting it into my card reader backwards) so I got a new one from Walmart. Since then I've had a lot of trouble. It worked ok for a day or two then at work one day I took it out of my locker and it said "bad removal". The card wasn't touched, it was just sitting in my locker. It has happened again a few times. I can temporarily fix it by reseating the card in the slot but it comes back. Now that doesn't even work. It just comes up saying I don't have a card. I've ruined my otterbox case trying to get this working (it won't grip the phone anymore because I've removed it so many times) and I'm very annoyed. I figured I'd ask if anyone has any idea what could be wrong before I go back to Bell with it. By the way, the phone is stock Android 2.2
Edit: Just realized I posted this in the wrong forum. Mod please move?
anyone got any ideas?
What brand of card did you get? Some cheap cards are notorious failing long before their time.
Maybe its defective. If its still pretty new, try to exchange it.
The other issue is that maybe you damaged the card tray when you inserted the card backwards.
This really sounds like you got some b-ware. You should return it to your dealer.

WTF is b-ware?
Well I went into Bell and they suggested I try another card so they got one of theirs and it worked fine. It's been okay so far so I guess I'll have to keep it. Only problem is I got a 4gb instead of the 8gb from Walmart for the same price. They wanted another 20 for the 8gb. The guy wasn't totally sure what it was but he assumed it was that their cards have been tested with each phone to ensure they work whereas the otehr is just a generic card. And he mentioned something about it being class 6, whatever that is.
My G2 has been experiencing SD card issues for a month or two now. I've been exclusively on CM7 nightlies, but since nobody else seems to have had this issue, I assumed it was me. Usually when using something that accessed my SD card, the phone would "unexpectedly" remove itself. Sometimes a reboot would mount my card again (can't mount through settings), but oftentimes I'd have to wait it out and reboot after a few days/reboot 20 times in hopes that it'd read it. I would re-set my SD card in the slot several times, but it doesn't do anything.
I'm still at the mercy of it and am contemplating unrooting my device to bring it in for warranty because it is a very big issue that is crippling my phone. I purchased a new SD card, but the problems still persist. Multiple data wipes/rom changes have occured as well as formatting said cards, but it's all the same.
Right now I just flashed CM7 stable (card was working [it plays funny, but if I try to use the camera, it usually dies]), and I hope that my card issues are gone, but I am fairly confident it's a hardware issue.

[Q] Looking for fix for random SD card unmounting (not card-based)

I've been researching this issue and have found a lot of threads about bad/corrupted SD cards randomly unmounting themselves. But the issue my phone seems to have is that the SD card isn't securely seated, and I haven't found much, if any, info on how to fix it.
Basically, my SD card unmounts if I bump my phone the wrong way. More often than not, it happens when I'm putting the battery cover back on. I did some fiddling with it, and once the card is inserted, if I gently pull on the card towards the edge of the phone, it unmounts. If I gently push it back towards the center of the phone, it remounts. I don't think it's an issue with my particular card (SanDisk 32GB Class 4) b/c I've tried two other cards (another SanDisk and an Kingston) and they all do the same thing.
I've tried pushing down on the card slot a bit to try and tighten up the metal sleeve that the card fits into with no luck. I've also tried putting a small piece of tape on top of the card to make it seat more firmly. Neither approach works. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I just got the phone recently and have been very happy with it (MUCH better than my old Droid RAZR). But I take a lot of pictures w/ my phone, so having a sketchy SD card is driving me nuts!

Been having problems since day one

Man I've been having problems since day one. I've had it for a couple of days now and I'm so frustrated that I'm thinking of going back to my LGV10 and returning it back. At first I was super excited to open up the package but then......
1st problem...
Wasn't able to install the SD card and sim card. I kept on trying to install it but it would jump out of its slot and fall off. With the weight of the phone I had to also not just try to insert the cards but try to not drop the phone while juggling to balance it.
2nd problem.....
SD card doesn't read...
I have a 200gb SD I had on my V10 so I thought I could just pop it in and enjoy me some movies on this big screen and enjoy some music but Nope, it doesn't seem to want to read it and making me reformat it. I don't think so.
I installed a new one. Had to format it and thought I could transfer files to it and..
3rd problem.....
No OTG..... I didn't know that I tried to manually install some files and no luck.
Oh yeah I dropped it already also but good thing it was on the carpet.
I really really like the phone so I there's anything anyone can help me with I would be much appreciated .
Thanks and sorry I had to vent..
This phone could be great, but it really needs some dev love. If it could be unlocked and rooted I really think a custom rom could make this phone really shine. Maybe in the near future. For now I went ahead and ordered the Zenfone 3 Ultra. Going to spend the next week comparing the two. If I can get over the lack of LTE and the Zenfone has better user experience I will probably return the Lenovo.

I had a 7" display phablet. It had simcard instructions printed on the back shipping plastic. I kept the plastic on because it was a very handy reminder and was hidden by the case anyway. The way I did the simcard in Slot 1 and the sdcard in Slot 2 was to keep the phone flat on its face on a table. Open the slots one at a time... Install the cards... The table made it so easy!!! My simcard had to go into a plastic adapter to make it the right size and it was a real juggling act before I tried this - it also aids in not losing the teenie cards. They land right on the table. Now, it's possible that you have to put the phone on its back on the table... It just depends on the orientation of the card in the tray and the tray in the slot!!! Don't let that be the reason why you return the phone! Try it!!!
Another thing, I am not a techie but a few people here have mentioned that our old sdcard format doesn't work in this phone. They have (usually) purchased a new card (which I'm going to do once I get lucky enough to get this phone in my hands!) and reformatted it to work in this phone and then transferred the data from the old card onto the new one... I am not a techie so I am still going to research this different format... I still have some questions about whether my pc card reader reads that format or do I need to get a reader? Are a lot of newly released phones changing the sdcard format? Why would they request the new format? But I am not letting that stop me... I really want this phone. In my area the Chinese phones don't give good MMS text performance or I would be doing an ASUS Zenphone 3 Ultra!!!

Yeah I figured out the card inserts & I also installed a brand new SD card. I format it to how it was suppose to be and I installed one song. Took me forever just for that one song. I just hope to figure it out before it's to late to return. Just want to be happy with it if you know what I mean lol.. Thank you
