I own a G4 from Orange Netherlands myself. I upgraded it to Aserg's 3.3.12 ROM. It made the phone quite a bit faster. There are still a few small issues with all/most custom ROMs, but in general they work like a charm. When I upgraded I first flashed to a 2.2 ROM just to be on the safe side.
can you explain how you did ?
or may be, a link where you found how to ?
Did you save your orange rom ?

Most info can be found in this thread. It has become a rather long thread, but it's filled with important and useful information. The flashing itself is explained clearly in the various download packages mentioned in that thread.

No, but I kinda wish I did so I could restore it in it's original form. Luckily a collegue has the same phone and he didn't flash it AFAIK. So I might get an original ROM from him just in case. I do suggest you make a backup of your original ROM, just in case.
okay thx,
last question before i begin : how can i backup my orange rom on my PC (not on the SD Card...)?

Just dump it to your SD card (explained here) and then copy it to your PC using ActiveSync or a cardreader.

okay, but if I can backup my rom and install another rom, what's the insterest of cid-unlocking my phone ?
The SPL is UNPATCHED! Do NOT flash!

you need htcromtool to convert nb to nbh.. take a look here
anyway, flashing radio is a dangerous procedure so if you don't have problems with your actual version don't touch anything
bye
Thanks Poldo for your reply.
The problem is that I have an Orange Pharos and i wanted to use the manila Rom. Using this Rom make my GPS unusable. So I hoped that flashing the radio could make the GPS work... Maybe I'm wrong
if you want to try i've made a nbh ready to flash... Be sure that your device is HardSPL patched.
...ah! DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK

Just updated from 03.15.90.

Se qualcuno scrive in italiano è meglio
hello all,...
my device is hardspl patched,...
can I flash the new SPL 2.05 ??
in other words...what is the task of the SPL in the device ??
(sorry for this basic question)
Hi, I have some questions about SPL 2.05:
What's new in this version ?
How to patch this version (like HardSPL 1.11Mobiz) ?
If I flash this version, can I return to the 1.11 later ?
Please re-send this Radio ROM pharos_radio_03.37.90. My old radio is not working properly, it is generally not able to making calls.

hi buddy, The second of my referral link above that contains the NBH file
Hi,
any flash image available for TIM devices?
Tried to fastboot recovery-new.img but it doesn't boot on my device (stuck at TIM splashscreen). So I was unable to root the device.
However after getting root access from "adb shell", I've flashed recovery-new on recovery partition, but with the same result: stuck at splashscreen when "home-power" booting. No "warning-triangle", only TIM splashscreen.
Is any original recovery image available for TIM devices?
Thanx
P.S. some more info about TIM Android build:

Recovered my recovery partition and finally built a recovery image (with Nandroid) working for TIM Magic (no more hanging on splash screen).
Hi
I have the Vodafone Dream, and would like to put on the TIM firmware mainly for the option to sync directly with Outlook.
Is somewhere available? probably I'll need also the original Voda Firm (in case of problems to recover the device)
PS: obviously i'm looking for ITA localised Firmware.
Thanks

hi I am italian too!
nk02 I really do not understand why you try to modify and adapt a roger G1 rom to a Magic device, while Magic rom from TIM is exactly the same thing (mostly done by HTC) and 100% compatible!
can you explain this mistery to me, please?
anyway thank you for your roger v2 rom!

So it is now possible to root TIM HTC Magic and install other custom firmware?
P.S. I saw your guide on creating recovery image for TIM on italian android forum...maybe you could post an English version here? (I think it will solve problems not only for TIM users, but for these Nordic folks who can't root their devices for the same reason.

Thanks
Hi all, I'm sorry I had no time to answer your questions.I hope to have more free-time in the week-end to work on TIM ROM, in the meanwhile I try to answer your questions in the previous posts:
1) do not flash Vodafone Magic recovery on TIM Magic, otherwise you'll brick your device as I did (now fully recovered)
2) I found a way to recover a copy of TIM's original recovery partition (you saw the small procedure in the italian forum).
TIM Magic has fastboot enabled and you can issue su command in both adb shell and terminal on the device. So the recovery was very easy.
I'll eventually post a guide in english as soon as I can (week-end maybe), but maybe I could post something more interesting...
3) Yes, once recovered my original recovery partition I started working on building and flashing a working recovery with embedded nandroid. It works.
TIM Magic has an apparently newer SPL and radio rom (I've not dumped them, so I prefer to work with original ones)
4) I suspect that TIM Magic is very similar to the sapphire devices being released world wide, that's the reason why I asked Joost to verify if He is able get access on his Magic. Right now it seems no. I had no time to make a double check with him, sorry.
5) I still have not fully understood the differences among TIM Magic (PVT 32A) vs other devices, so at the moment I'd prefer not to release my patched recovery. I'd prefer having some of you to make a dump of your recovery or boot partition and send me a copy to analyze it.
If none of the owners of new devices, not able to fastboot recovery-new.img is abe to get root access to make the dump in the simple way I described in the italian forum (google for daldroid), we could try having a volunteer tryng fastbooting (NOT flashing) a copy of the modded Haykuro's recovery-new which I modded and is working for TIM
6) Right now I have a modded HERO rom working on my TIM, but it still has flaws like no bluetooth and no wi-fi which I had no time to investigate. Sure minor problems (I remember I read a thread about similar problem with a rom porting, so the topic is well known, maybe I'll be able to solve it soon)
I'm sorry I had not enough time to offer you a complete working rom, but I only bought my Magic last week and I'm still learning about android and sapphire internals, you know ;-)
Just to be very clear: the current HERO ROM I'm using is only a test, a quick and dirt patch of Haykuro's release, further modified by nk02 (sorry if I forgot to mention any other involved in this, please correct me).
See you soon,
Daldroid

Does this also mean that TIM/original HTC Magic users can't just flash custom ROMs which are not signed with some special TIM/HTC keys?

TIM Magic (and it seems to be the same with all A6161 devices, like danish HT Magic) is simply not booting any of the available images I'm aware of).
At first I though they implemented a secure SPL, then I found a way to boot modified images. No special signature required. It may be applicable to other Magics. We could verify this either by:
A) a "blind trial" having someone booting his non-TIM/Vodaphone Magic with a custom image I could prepare
B) helping someone with a different HTC original phone dump their rom, so I could verify if the same customization applied to TIM roms will help them to boot their phone via fastboot. In that case, I could generate a custom recovery image with nandroid which will be working and flashable.
I suppose the problem is the different SPL and radio rom flashed on device. I don't have a copy of them and from my searches they seem to be a newer version.
Right now I prefer option B). But this requires to have root access to the phone. In TIM Magic it's enabled by original ROM (either via adb shell or by installing a terminal on the Magic itself)
I didn't try flashing a different SPL and radio from previous version.
SPL and Radio images are available on the net (Haykuro released one If I'm not wrong), but I noticed our board is PVT 32A, while Vodafone Magic is PVT 32B, so I prefer to find a way to use original SPL and radio until a newer ones are available.

hi, I'm french so excuse my english.
I purchased an htc snap (in france with Bouygtelecom) this week and when i wanted to install somme little software like spoontools for example, I couldn't use it.
so i searched all day to find informations and now i know that:
1/ I have to flash the hard spl
2/ I have to dump my rom before flashinf it
3/ Then i have to flash the new rom
BUT my questions are:
1/how to dump the rom for this particular phone (i could find informations about touch etc... but not about the htc snap)
2/ Can I use any ROM on any phone or do i have to flash a particular kind of ROM specialy developped for the snap?
3/ If i can use ever rom wich one do i have to choose?
4/ How can i be sure i won't brick my phone (even if i'm used with PC and windows i'm not so good with informatic and it seems a bit frightenning ...)
sorry for all these questions but i'm quite lost
Welcome to forum
Have a look on this special section for your device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=499
Over there you can find ROM´s to upgrade, as long as you follow the instructions all should be ok.
Don´t try to use another devices ROM!!!
Good luck,
thanks, i saw in this section that there is not much things about the snap.
meanwhile, do you know why i've got this message when i try to use g alarm (for example , it's the same with some other softwares):
Galarm.exe
NotSupportedException
à Microsoft.AGL.Common.MISC.HandleAr()
à System.Window.Forms.Control.InitInstance()
à System.Windows.Forms.Control..ctor()
à System.Windows.Forms.Button..ctor()
à Galarm.frminstall.InitializeComponent()
à Galarm.frminstall..ctor()
à Galarm.Program.main()
It did the same with spoondo, spoon alarm, pocket wake up...
What can i do?
anyone can telle me?
