[Q] Rooting a Samsung Captivate 2.2 - General Questions and Answers

I am new to the rooting process. I have a Samsung Captivate that has been updated to the 2.2 Froyo and I am now trying to root my phone. I followed the instructions to root the phone and was successful with the process until I began to enter the codes in the command prompt that were provided on XDA by CL SHORTFUSE. Once I enter the first code, which is adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
then I receive a message that states 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or extrernal command, operable program or batch file. I am wondering what I am doing wrong because no matter what I try I can't get pass this step in the rooting process. I appreciate any help in advance.

[Q] LG Optimus S - Custom Recovery

Ok, so you will all probably jump my s**t because I am asking a question, but here goes.
I recently purchased an LG Optimus S and it came from Sprint preloaded with 2.2.1. I was able to root it just fine with z4 root. My problem is getting a custom recovery on it. The one I have only allows me to flash update.zip files and every time I try to flash something that has been renamed to update.zip I get an unsigned error. I have tried to guide to flash a custom recovery through ADB and Android Terminal to no avail.
I get one of three results when following the guide perfectly.
1)Permission Denied
2)File or directory not found (bare in mind the files are in place and I have received these error codes on back to back attempts.)
3)When using android terminal it appears to work sometimes, but when it reboots into recovery I have the same one as before.
If someone could help me out with this issue I would be enormously appreciative.
Also if I am going to need to downgrade to 2.2 let me know, and please explain how to do it for the Optimus S as the threads "explaining" how to do it have not been helpful thusfar.
Thank you
Have you given it Super User access? As in did you recieve a message on your phone that it's demanding super user access? I used to get permission denied and stuff until that messaged flashed on my phone. It works perfectly fine after that.
Have you tried over @ Android Central? I am using that recovery. I have no issues.

Yes to both of the previous posts.
I was getting those problems too. Try this:
Reboot your phone and computer.
Open a command line, type "adb shell".
Once you get the shell prompt, type in "su". Go check your phone and see if SuperUser popped up. If it hasn't wait for it. If the # prompt has appeared in the terminal, you should be fine.
Now proceed with the instructions If anything stops working, type "adb kill-server" into a command line prompt (not shell prompt) and try again.
[facepalm]
Was typing "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img" but my recovery image was name "recovery.img" so the file was actually recovery.img.img. As soon as I took the .img off of the file name it worked perfectly right away.
[/facepalm]
Clockworkmod recovery
The clockworkmod recovery from rom manager for the lg optimus v works with my optimus s just fine
nvm

Rooting Droid

I am trying to root my droid and i am getting stuck at this point
here is the time line of events
1. rooted successfully via easy root a really long time ago
2. after an ota update i receive an error when i attempt to reflash the phone or back up the rom anything that requires super user permissions fails saying "permission denied"
here i am now haha
After running RATC, you're not getting root UID (0), and you're staying in adb shell, so it's normal that adb devices command isn't working.
However, the real problem I see here is that RATC isn't working. Are you sure that you're using correct exploit - is RATC working on your FW version? Maybe you have to use psneuter...
sorry could you possibly put that in layman's terms im some what technical but im some what new to android stuff
UPDATE: nvm the above how do i figure the FW version ive looked in the about section of the phone but it doesnt seem to be there whats the best way to obtain the FW version?
I don't own Droid but same principles more or less should be same for all Android phones. So, to simplify it:
Basically, when you execute RATC (rage_against_the_cage) exploit, adb shell should disconnect and you should be thrown back to Windows' CMD prompt and adb shell should get root permissions. But in your case this isn't happening, adb doesn't restart and RATC isn't working.
Can you try with SuperOneClick v.1.6.3?
i was looking at that ill go ahead and try that
still a no go i attached some screen shots
Which Android version have you got? 1.6 or 2.1? Try with psneuter exploit.
i rooted with unRevocked3, on htc. very easy!!!!

rooting post911 HTC Dream (rogers)

So I am currently in the cmd for windows and when I type the "adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals" I get this message:
"Failed to copy exploid to /sqlite_stmt_journals" Read only file system.
What I am doing wrong? Bt the way I am following the post911 guide for the rogers HTC dream and currently in this directory for cmd "C:\adb\platform-tools\" (renamed the folder to adb as I thought I was supposed to do).
All help appreciated!
Update: So my phone wasn't being detected on the computer and I believe that's the reason why. I disconnected and plugged it back in, and did the sync with windows pushed the command and it went through. Followed the rest of the guide and when i typed adb shell i got a dollar sign only. Continued following the guide and I still have the dollar sign instead of "C:\adb|etc.." and the adb shell command wont work.
1. No idea what you're talking about or relating to.
2. Try using "adb remount" then try again.

[Q] Need help to re-root atrix 2

I get a message in the cmd prompt when trying to root my Atrix 2 after update,
"adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"
.
I was rooted before update with OTA VooDoo Rootkeeper but when I hit Restore Root it tries but is unable.
The only unchecked boxes are Device rooted and Root permission granted.
It says I have a protected su copy available but apparently it cannot retrieve it so I am stuck.
Thank you for your time and help. It is very much appreciated.

[Q] Trying to Root - adb not recognised

Hi,
I'm trying to root but getting the message 'adb not recongised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file'. What does this mean? I've installed fastboot/flashmode and z3 drivers via flahstool. Am on UK Generic .98 firmware.
Thanks
Ok did some googling and found it was to do with the paths in windows. Updated environmental variables as per the below:
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...0_IbQh9eEAUHHz45h5DM6_g&bvm=bv.87611401,d.cGU
So in mine, I've got SDK tools saved down in C:\Program Files\Tools and have set up my variable as ANDROID_TOOLS pointing to there, then ANDROID_PLATFORM_TOOLS pointing to their location in C:\Program Files\Platform-Tools and then set Path as %Path%%ANDROID_PLATFORM_TOOLS%;%ANDROID_TOOLS%
But when I run the rooting tool I now get 'The system cannot find the path specified' then *daemon not running. starting it now on port 537* then *daemon started succesfully* it begins sending files and then get several 'cannot stat' and 'unable to open' messages before the final:
'Error: Seems your kernel / device is not supported /system/bin/sh: data/local\tmp\getroot: not found
I am now on Global Generic firmware .23.0.a.2.93. Model is D6603, not locked to any carrier, and bootloader is unlockable.
Can someone please help? I need to get rooted ASAP as I'm home visting family before the weekend and said to my dad I'd root his phone before I head back to London.
Thanks.
Never mind - solved and now rooted! Absolutely no idea how - something within the extracted version of giefroot tool was extracted further to somewhere else, ran the tool again and it worked!
