I have been exploring different Rom on my HTC Evo and on my Nookcolor tablet, and I have been confronted with this issue:
My Rom manager on both devices is 3.0.1.4: My understanding is that this is the latest verison (as of Mar 31 2011).
My Evo's clockworkmod recovery is 3.0.0.5
My Nookcolor's clockworkmod recovery is 3.0.1.0
Is the clockworkmod recovery dependent on the device it is installed on (ie some android tablets never get updated), or does cockworkmod get updated over time (I manually updated the nookcolor from 3.0.0.5 to 3.0.1.0 when I started messing with C7 Rom for the nook)
Do I need to update my evo or does the above principle apply (each device's appropriate revision level for clockworkmod recovery is unique).
Thanks
Robyn
None have the answer for me or can you point me in the right direction to educate myself. I have searched diligently both here on xda and openly on the web.
I really do want to understand.

HBoot compatibility aside, in the past, Clockworkmod had issues with not formatting all the directories it was supposed to format. with 3.0.0.5, do they solve the problem with this version?
I like the new version and had no issues, but when flashing other ROMs some still say not to use ClockworkMod and use Amon_ra. I have an EVO 4G ver 003. I love CyanogenMod 7 and I just want to make sure I am using the best recovery for this ROM.

I recently changed the recovery to the clockworkmod recovery but to my understanding with the version I have (3.0.0 something like that) only supports edify roms. Well the problem is almost none have that coding. I like clockworkmod because I can backup the roms ive used but if I cant get a rom to work im going to go back to the original recovery. Can I downgrade the clockworkmod or do I just have to wait for the devs to start using edify?
If there are any roms that are known that will work with the optimus t I would appreciate it very much. Thanks
(My first post on these forums)
Megatron V1-AmonRa Recovery-not CWM 3.1.0.0
Devoid Froyo Final-AmonRa Recovery but I hear it works for the CWM 3.1.0.0 (try it, let me know)
Mik_os CM7 (unofficial)-only CWM 3.1.0.0
There are tons of Froyo Roms but not many Gingerbread, I believe the sources arent around yet
I kept getting flash issues after using the unlockr's root method on my Nexus S 4G, specifically the inability to flash roms due to a status 7 error.
BEFORE you run around searching every forum, or use someone else's old nandroid to revert to 2.3.1, or do any craziness... if you flashed Clockwork via fastboot, install ROM Manager from the market, and install the latest ClockworkMod recovery via Rom Manager, and give it another try.
Hopefully this is easy enough to find, that no one else has this problem.
Happy hunting
Hi,
This didn't help
I installed ROM Manage from Play Store and tried to install ClockworkMod recovery from ROM Manager. Howeve, it kept on getting stuck while installing ClockworkMod recovery....
Are there any other solutions for Status 7 error?
Flash the latest CWM manually via fastboot. Have a look at the Nexus S rooting guides, they all detail how to flash a custom recovery.
Yep, it was all about updating the CWM. In my case I had to update it to the one that supports touch mode (don't remember the version number). Once that was done all went quite smoothly.

Hey guys,
I been tracking at this great site for a while. I realized that there was a upgrade for MT4GS around the time that I got my phone(End of 2011). I saw some posts said that the upgrade had patched something so we can't root the phone with revolutionary method.
My question is is there any way to check and see if revolutionary method still work for my phone?
Software information
Android Version
2.3.4
Software Number
1.28.531.9
I think these information might help to determine.
Yep, Revolutionary will work for you.
Thank you !
Assuming it works, use revolutionary method and then use rom manager to update your clockwork mod to 5.0.2.7

rom manager... I guess I need some research on that. b/c I heard that there is some issues with the older clockwork mod.
Just a guess based on what I read in the past. Is rom manager an app?
Thank you!
Yep, Rom Manager is an app. You can flash superuser with an older version of CWM, then you will be rooted and can go straight to the market and download Rom Manager and use it to flash CWM 5.0.2.7.
Are the changes from 4.0.0.9 important enough to update?

4.0.0.9 is an upgrade that solves some charging issues present in 4.0.0.8 that is installed by revolutionary.
They are both unofficial clockworkmod versions.
5.0.2.7 is the only official version of the recovery for our device, and it's worth updating. The other versions were something to get us by until an official one was released for our device - and they did a great job while we were waiting.
Rom Manager is an app you can find in the market. Here is a link:

Once you have root on your device, just install clockworkmod through Rom manager. It doesn't matter what recovery you currently have, whether it's stock or one of the custom clockworkmods, Rom Manager will just replace whatever is there. But you need root.
I used the Advance Ace Hack Kit (version 13012012) to root my HTC Inspire. I noticed that the version of ClockworkMod that it installed was 5.0.2.7.
I then thought I might flash a new rom so I downloaded Rom Manager. One of the options of Rom Manger is to install ClockworkMod. However I would like to verify that flashing whatever version of ClockworkMod from Rom Manager over the current version installed by AAHK won't cause any problems.
Does anybody know?
I looked at the ClockworkMod site and it had version 5.0.2.7 as the current version, but it didn't list the HTC Inspire as compatible.
Rom manager doesn't seem to want to do anything until I flash its version of ClockworkMod. I assumed that it might know that ClockworkMod was already on it, but apparently not.
So, will I mess things up if I just let Rom Manger flash whatever version of ClockworkMod over the AAHK version (which seems to be the newest version)? If I decide to flash a rom I might just do it from the console rather than Rom Manager.
Thanks for any insight.
I'm still learning but I'm pretty sure it'll be ok. And I think the reason it doesn't show inspire 4g is cause the inspire is just paired with desire hd

Thanks @Boss man. I had thought the same thing about clockworkmod not showing Inspire 4g, however, for the Desire HD it shows that 5.0.2.0 as the current version (not 5.0.2.7).
I've only had this phone a week, so it's all a bit new...and I certainly don't want to brick the thing if I don't have to Hoping that someone has used Rom Manager to flash over a different version (even if newer version) of ClockworkMod.

Hi, CWM recovery is a must before you flash a new rom. That won´t conflict with the Hack Kit as the Hack Kit only roots your phone. Once that is finished then there's nothing more. The CWM recovery is a new image that is flashed to your cell and that allows you among other things to backup your current rom and flash new ones.
Before you move towards flashing anything you have to install CWM or you will get stuck in the HBoot menu. Inspire 4G is fully compatible with Rom Manager and CWM and will install the last version available. When you choose to flash CWM recovery it will prompt you what device is yours...choose Desire HD and that will do. The desire HD is the European version of Inspire, but NEVER try to flash software that is for the Desire HD as that some aspects are not the same (Radio, kernel) and might jam you up. Hope it helps....
Thanks. Yea that helps. However, I already have CWM recovery on my phone. I did not put it there. However, I bought the phone used. All I did was use the AAHK and after rooting was done version 5.0.2.7 of CDW recovery was on the phone.
I don't know what version of CDW recovery ROM Manger flashes. Just want to make sure that _if_ it flashes a new _or_ older version of CDW recovery it doesn't jam anything up for me.

As far as you Flash the CWM recovery from the Rom Manager, it won´t jam you up as it flashes the last version that is compatible with your device. If you are in doubt you just can flash it again to make sure.
If you are thinking about installing a custom rom then don´t forget to make a nandroid backup (copy current rom) and enjoy!!...

take out the battery and insert it again, press power and press volume down, and so keep trying ... enters hboot and from there comes the recovery and makes all wipes.. I was in your same situation and that was my solution
