[Q] What's a good keyboard app for low-spec Android devices? - General Questions and Answers

So I got a iRobot 7in Android tablet (WM2.1.2_105)... was about $86 shipped.

I've had quite a bit of experience with these kinds of devices so it was fairly easy to get it rooted, hacked, optimized for best performance and working with Android Market.
...but optimized or no, it's still a low-spec device (256MB RAM, I'm quite sure the processor is below 600mHz... no 2D or 3D acceleration, 800x480 display), and I'm fine with that because I only got it because paying $160 for a Kindle that just reads books and nothing else seemed kinda retarded... especially when Android has a Kindle app.
Anyway, the keyboard (standard virtual keyboard) is actually the problem I've been having here. If I try to type the speed I'm used to typing, the device will skip strokes because it's not fast enough to keep up with me, and has all this predictive stuff+key enlargement effects slowing it down (of course, I tried the obvious solutions of disabling everything I can in Keyboard settings... still slow).
Are there any bare-bones keyboard apps with no added "under the hood" functions that you guys know of?

try this link..
scroll at the middle of the page.. u will see a download option.. download those keyboard apps.. it can also run or other devices besides htc.. download your correct resolution keyboard (download all and see which works best for you)
you will download a zip file.. install the two apk's...

that sure looks like a virtual keyboard to me...
can anyone confirm that there is a virtual keyboard....
and not shapewriter.. i'm talking like a iphone like virtual keyboard
We'll have to see. It's certainly possible that this is in the works, if not in the ROM supplied with the G1. Remember Android is a platform, not a single phone. Lots of the other hardware will not have a built-in keyboard, some won't have touchscreens, etc. It's a very flexible platform.
i understand that
i am just not happy with the current options for a virtual keyboard!
i know this will be implemented its must a matter of time
so with that being said... i was really just wondering if someone has written this keyboard into the OS already or if that is just a photshop of someones plans....
it would be nice to see someone make one and i am sure that they will soon....it wouldnt be bad; they could put it under the menu key so people have an option instead of it just poping up on them.....i have read a lot of complaints about this on the wing...which i have but i do use the virtual almost as much as the hard qwerty...
Virtual KP
Officially there is no VKP, all text entry must be done from the qwerty.
How about integrating Swype?
This keyboard looks pretty sweet, it would be cool if it could be loaded on the platform
i just recieved my G1 today and it doesnt have a virtual keyboard, i didnt see one in the market either
Virtual Keyboard coming in Q1 2009
According to the Android roadmap, virtual keyboard should arrive in Q1 2009.
http://source.android.com/roadmap
I didn't even see this but apparently they won the contest for the andriod development grant.

I know most probably know about it but it looks kinda neat... similar to the locking mechanism

The lack of screen rotation and broken GAPI implementation on the Motorola Q 9h

Hi everyone, 1st post
I have a Q 9h which is a very problematic smartphone when using software made for portrait screens and games. Garbled screen or incomplete display is common. I've read that screen rotation and correct GAPI implementation would increase compatibility a lot.
With lack of screen rotation, software made for 240x320 smartphones or PocketPC doesn't work properly. The best I could do was changing DPI:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Display\dpi]
"LogicalPixelsX"=dword:00000060
"LogicalPixelsY"=dword:00000060
After changing 131 to 96 fits a lot more on the screen. Then I decreased font size too and played with a virtual cursor utility. But it's somewhat half-assed.
The other problem can be seen here:

I've read 50+ forum threads by now, downloaded software kits and source code, even searched hacking tools. I've downloaded multiple versions of gx.dll and the source code and tried to recompile it. I've tried whatever I remember in almost a week. I've downloaded 20+ emulators (sometimes multiple versions) and I only found 3 that work. Then it happens in native games too. The problem may be related with PowerVR drivers either.
Honestly I'm exhausted and getting nowhere, please help. Cheers and thanks for reading.

1. We move on keypad.exe device.
2. Run keypad.exe
3. Run Worms World Party from the folder / Program Files / Jamdat /

Click to collapse
apparently this works on the Omnia 2, but when I try it with my HD2, the keypad application does not seem to work
did any of you guys try this before??
the whole keypad doesn't work for me either, we seriously need a working virtual keypad for the HD2
I reposted the thread in "Windows Mobile Software Development".. I this will get more attention for developers
lots of older games need a keypad, and the multi-touch will definitely will improve the control..
Playing SNES for instance would be really awesome on the huge screen
I just found this

it's definitely a great start, it works with kvetris, but does not work with Worms

Fancy on Android phone with keyboard?

Good afternoon, community!
Some time ago I started to think about mobile devices with full keyboards - but all what I found were tablets like 2 in 1 and they still didn’t looked good enough. I remembered my Nokias 9 series with beautiful S80 on board, what I have used to write course assignment at Uni, to write job applications, etc. By the same time I’ve been working in retail and used to sell this kind of devices - as well as legends like Qtec 9000. People loved it. So, I’ve decided to move forward!
I have created a concept of smartphone in notebook form-factor:
{

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3d model can viewed here https://skfb.ly/RHDK
Inspired by Psion 5 series, so it would have a proper QWERTY, and as Nokia 9 series, it would have 2 screens - inside and outside.
According to concept, it should work on modified version of android with access to linux apps, with factory root access and open boot loader for community ROMs.
I have contacted some ODM factories to get estimation for production, and got some advice on cost reduction, to edit concept - for available mainboard and screens - FHD, because its too expensive to produce specific ones.
So, if there is anyone who is interested in such product - you are very welcome leave your suggestions, ideas and comments!
There is a massive work still to be done before I would go for crowdfunding, so any help would be appreciated!
What type of keyboard would prefferable, laptop type, when screen is on the lid, or sliding out? Or anything else?

NERLMIAY chineese tablet

Hello people.
I did the mistake and bought a Chinese tablet from a website, that promised a lot, but finally it's not like that.
It's a 10,1 inch tablet . It should be very strong and fast, with 16GB Ram and so on. It also should have android 10.
Anyway, it works real slow. But the main problem is That it's android system is old and a lot of apps does not support it anymore.
Device Info HW application shows the specifications that you can see on the pictures.
I'm open to any suggestions that would make this device run smoothly and become a newer and more apps-compatible version of android.
I'm good at working through the PC, by connecting the tablet with it. I already did activate developer options and USB debugging. And it is also already rooted.
So, I don't know which TWRP image file to install, because I don't know which one would be compatible to this no-name tablet. Same goes also for a better custom ROM though.
Please people can anybody help me?
1. To find the right twrp image file
2. To find a custom rom
Thank you very much!

Why don't you just return the phone and ask for a refund?
what did you do to save him? I did the same **** as you, I bought it thinking it would be the best tablet in the world, 12 core 16gb of RAM, 512 of sd... all a lie
