Amazon App Store Apps Breaking?! - Thunderbolt General

Do you have Amazon App Store installed? I do and sometimes I open an app that I got from there and it says I have to reinstall it from the app store.
So I uninstall then head back and redlownload. It works for a day or two then errors again. Anyone else with this?

yep, kept happening with angry birds, could play it maybe 5 mins then error out and I would redownload and repeat. So I got it somewhere else and uninstalled the amazon app store. To many bugs right now.

do you have fastboot turned on? I think that breaks other market apps.

I wonder if they are having DRM issues, like with Rio if you uninstall the App Store you cant play the game. I bet the apps check to see if you paid for and downloaded them from the app store etc.... just my hunch

No I didn't want to risk it.

I had to re-install Angry Birds once, after that it has worked on all other free apps downloaded from them.

The amazon app store allows developers to "turn on" drm, which basically means that applications will not work if you do not have the amazon app store installed and have a working internet connection. In regards to that, I like the free apps they give out every day, but I dont think I would want to buy any from their store due to those reasons. They also have a no refund policy

Just downloaded free Fruit Ninja app and it works fine.

Actually I DID have fast boot on. Dunno why. I must have tried it to see of it worked or something but I have it off now and I did a reboot and am still getting the error. But only seems like its shazam that's the issue. I am running the Perfect Storm ROM so I'm not sure if its something in there that's causing it.

I'm having a similar issue.
I've been using the Amazon appstore for a while now and have had no problems. Installed CM 6.1.3 v054 onto my x10i and Weatherbug Elite and Vignette (which I actually paid for!) both don't work on the custom ROM.
I've tried wiping the data and uninstalling them and the appstore and reinstalling from scratch and it still no worky.
It seems certain apps have the DRM built into them. Is there any way a dev could mod his ROM to include DRM capability? Why wouldn't it have it already?

Part of the "features" of the amazon app store is the ability to allow developers to automatically inject drm into their applications if they choose. Easiest way to tell if your apps have it without further debugging would be to uninstall the amazon app store and see if they still run.

Everything working great so far...

Angry Bords, Weather Bug it's constanly happening too. Got rid of it, and just downloaded it via the market. The programs are definently lookign for the amazon app..

[Q] Can't install Beautiful Widgets on Nexus S [solved]

Hi guys,
I've managed to install many applications on my Nexus S, however I just can't install Beautiful Widgets on it at all. Does anyone know if this screenshot attached can help - or can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've emailed the developers, and they say that Beautiful Widgets is indeed compatible with the Nexus S, and they develop on the Nexus S all the time.
So I don't know if it is my Google Apps account or something else that is making this difficult?!
Thanks guys
Did you try buying it from the Market app on your phone rather than the website?
As a last resort, you can download the app market enabler and spoof it as T-Mobile USA and buy Beautiful Widgets
It definitely works on the NS but I wish I hadn't bothered as it seems really pixaly.

I've had no problems with it on mine. I use the Beautiful Home Smaller Weather widget on both my home screen and lock screen. It's pretty terrific. You might have issues with the location function, but if you do, you just have to clear the caches in any apps that use location (when I first got it, it was setting to my old apartment. I had to wipe data in BW and Maps, and it's been fine).
The OP isn't asking if the widget works on the NS or not. The problem the OP is having is buying the app from the website, unsure if he can buy it within the market app.
Thanks for the advice.
I can't actually find the Beautiful Widgets app in the Market app on my phone.
Even if I go to the developer's website and scan the QR code, the Market app tells me that there are no search results.
Perhaps then it is a location (South Africa) problem, and I will need to spoof it as T-Mobile USA and buy Beautiful Widgets.
I've just never rooted my phone, and if this is the case, I will need to do some more reading up on how to backup, root, recover, etc before I go any further!
Thanks for the help!
P.S. Going to try purchase it with AndroidPit website ... will revert!
Hi Guys,
It was definitely a location type problem between my phone and Google, or else a problem with Google Checkout and my credit card?
Perhaps I can't purchase any app through the Google Marketplace? I'll have to check that out further.
At any rate, I purchased the BW app through AndroidPIT and BW works perfectly!

Are you on 2.3.3 GRI54? Previously I flashed the Axura ROM and I can see almost all apps but not Fifa 10, when I go to market.android.com, it says the same thing, the app is not compatible with my phone. The developer fixed it by using back the signature GRI40 for the ROM.

Swiftkey kb free today (3/26/11)

Hey fellow Hero users,
In case you haven't heard, Swiftkey keyboard app is FREE today through the Amazon App store! The prediction software is pretty incredible.
Download Amazon.com from the Market
Open Amazon app and download App store
open App store and download Swiftkey for FREE!
*They are doing a free paid app every day.
Enjoy!
I'd highly recommend trying out this keyboard for a week or so. Once you use it enough, the predictions make it faster than swype imo.
And a word of caution:
I downloaded the Shazam Encore the other day, and as soon as I uninstalled Amazon Appstore I would get popup notifications when I tried to use Shazam saying "i uninstalled AA. Please re-download and log in".... Dunno if it'll be the same thing for SwiftKey or not YMMV
Of course, still try it out regardless and if you don't plan on uninstalling AA then just ignore that caution
EDIT: Looks something similar to this ->

Thanks for this. I have never used a non-stock keyboard other than the ime from here, but this one seems responsive and pretty accurate so far. Wish it was a dark keyboard is my only complaint but not one to stop me. And I'll have to keep an eye out on those free apps.
[dpeeps74]
I use SwiftKey pretty much exclusively, so I'd recommend grabbing this as it's free. Amazon has had a nice little list of free apps of the day:
Angry Birds Rio
Doodle Jump
Shazam
SwiftKey
The problem with the Amazon App of the Day is when you go into the Market to upgrade a paid app you downloaded free, it tries to charge you for the app before you can update it. So there's no sync yet. But SwiftKey is incredible, and gets better every time you use it.

Yes, you can back up the apps (including the appstore, of course), with Titanium Backup.
I just checked the help section at the amazon appstore to see about the problem mentioned above, and found this:
Because your application purchases are tied to your Amazon.com account, you will not be able to use apps if you have signed out from the Amazon Appstore. To use the apps that you've purchased, please sign back into your account on the Amazon Appstore app.
So, yeah, gotta have it, gotta have an account, gotta be signed in. NOW I can see why they wanted to use the name "appstore" and not "market"
Oh, and trying out swiftkey as of a couple hours ago. I think I likes it.
Sorry, I had no idea about the whole Amazon proprietary thing. SwiftKey rules though. For me, I don't mind keeping the Amazon app store installed. Especially if it means free apps. I can see how some would object though.

Got the beta keyboard for the dark skin. Like the keyboard a lot so far. Still getting used to it but I've had it nearly predict entire sentences. Thanks again for this. Oh, and running it on cm6 fwiw.

[Q] Market Issue on 2.3.3

Hi, Anybody else having issues with Market, either via app or desktop, that some apps are marked incompatible?
I can't download Google Maps but I can download Street View. I can't download YouTube also via Market.
There are also other apps that are marked incompatible aside from known incompatible apps. Known incompatible apps like Skype and alike.
Any bright Ideas?
Tested in 2.3.3 roms.
Check out the screenshots with maps (no download options)

Custom dpi (lcd density) seems to cause the "incompatible" problem with the new market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196417
Going back to 240 dpi and clearing market data makes everything work as it should.
You can then go back to your custom dpi, but most users are reporting the problem comes back after a while.

No Matter how many times you force close the GetJar app it will always come back. If you look It runs as a service and most services can't be completely stopped, If you even look at the times you will notice this app boots up when your phone boots up.
Just because an app is running in the background doesn't necessarily mean it is spyware there are plenty of apps that run in the background I've just been installing getjar to get the apps I want and then uninstall the app if it were malicious it would not let you uninstall and at the very least you would no longer have the apps that you downloaded from them just my opinion but yes it does run in the background

Totally Agree with you on installing needed apps and then unistalling GetJar. I find it completely useless as a lot of the apps are outdated, since it runs constantly 24/7 ram and much needed battery become wasted. I really can't think of any other Markets that run in the background and can't be force closed. These are 1 of those apps that have no extra value running in the background constantly.

Disable Services App going berserk...

Today I tried fiddling a bit with this app. It's all good but after disabling a couple services in the Gmail app and finding out that they were needed a few minutes later, it seems like whenever I try bring them back to their prior unfrozen state they just won't stick, and every time I open the app they appear to be unchecked again. I'd really love to keep using this app but I damn sure need Gmail so...any idea on why this might be happening?
Edit: the app keeps killing the processes as shown on the attached pic.

I used to have the same problem. It turned out that I was being too aggressive with disabling limes into Google Play Services. However if I restore them it simply sticks as it should in the app, so it's not a big deal. With Gmail however it's a whole different story, at least on my device/ROM layout. I could try a full wipe but ain't nobody got time for dat...
A factory reset didnt repair the service status. I am rethinking of using disable service , does it slow down the phone over time ?

I'm mot using it right now, but I moticed that after I unistalled it the processes I blocked within the app remained blocked. A few seconds before uninstalling I just enabled Gmail, and being the app removed it just sticked for once. So even tho it's quite a crooked way to do it I managed to have Gmail working and the app doing its job anyway, even if it's currently not installed. It is a shame that one has to do such dirty workarounds in order to make things work as they should without breaking functionality, but that's the "fix" I'm using at the moment. Still no word from the dev so I've kinda lost hope anyways.

I wonder how much of a difference all of our micro managing really makes. Sure some processes are pretty toxic but when running a very slim build like deodexed XtreStoLite there isn't really much left to kill...right now I'm just using Greenify after a fresh install and I seem to be getting pretty much the same battery life...
Inviato dal mio SM-G925K utilizzando Tapatalk
No work for greenify on a clean install . The apps and service pile up over time . For me its :-
1. Freezing /unfreeze for facebook,kindle,amazon,etc
2.Disable services
3.App Ops
4. If apps crashes because of service disable then add on greenify
5. App Ops Startup + bootmanager
Using Old version of some apps like airdroid.
