Hi folks,
I recently purchased a Lexar Class 10 32GB card for my HTC Desire. In case anyone else was considering the same card, I've written down my experiences with it, such as they are. I've not had it long enough to give any long-term feedback, but I'll update this thread if I encounter any long-term issues with it.
I've also posted this review in play.com but will take a while for it go through their review system.
---
Price: I have been keeping track of this particular Micro SDHC card for a while and when the price dipped to 54.99GBP I took the opportunity to purchase it. Since then I notice that the price has gone up again, so it was a timely purchase.
Delivery: Ordering and delivery was smoothless (ordered on 22/03/2011 and arrived on the doorstep on 28/03/2001).
Usage: I already have a 16GB card in my HTC Desire and required more memory. The Class 10 speed was not a strict requirement, but makes data transfer much faster. There are no compatibility issues with the HTC Desire and am happily using the card at the moment. For those who like to root the phone and so such things, I've partitioned the card using ROM Manager and am currently using Oxygen 2.0.1 with an sd-ext partition and there are no problems using the card.
Data transfer speed: I used h2testw v1.4 to test the card and the results are given below:
Warning: Only 30522 of 30523 MByte tested.
Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 10.3 MByte/s
Reading speed: 16.1 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4
For what it's worth I used the Micro SDHC card reader that came with the card on my laptop, which is running Windows Vista. As you can see, the write speed matches the Class 10 specification.
I was not able to achieve the same write speed then writing the contents of the old card (which was first copied to my laptop) to the new card using the card reader on the laptop. I only achieved around 5MByte/s, or thereabouts. This is probably due to the smaller file sizes compared with the file sizes used by h2testw.
Hope this helps.
...and it would be interesting to see it acting here.
How fast does it read using the SD Card reading speed fix?

Thanks for the URL. I'll have a play with it in the weekend and check the speeds.
I got mine too, got around the same results as above. I should do a review soon!
Opinions
Since there are no more reviews on this...guys who bought this card, could you please post how it behaves with the phone?.
Have you noticed any changes like:
- faster video playback
- no lag while recording 720p video
- games and apps loading faster
I'm really considering buying this card, but judging the Amazon reviews the transfer speed for some users is lower than with a class 6 card.
Thanks
32GB? i thought Desires could only read SD cards up to 16GB?
No, I have a 32GB fitted with no probs (yet!).
I'm not a speed merchant, but do not notice any issues.

Everything is smoother for me. I get ~10MB/s write speeds.
I yaw class 6 and get 7 mb/s
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
...got this card yesterday...
...I'm currently running RCMixHD V3.6.1 ROT D2EXT rom on it, partitioned FAT32+EXT4+EXT4+Linux Swap as specified by the requirements of the rom.
Due to the nature of the D2EXT rom running entirely from the EXT & swap partitions off of the SD card, a slow 'lower class' sd card will end up creating a performance hit on the phone.
However, I can confirm that after using it for 12 hours... the D2EXT rom is running very fast and stable on this SD card.
In fact, I would go far as to say the rom running faster than its optimised DATA++ variant.
Thanks to this SD card, I now have a rom that basically has the speed and stability of DATA++ roms but with the added bonus of having over 1GB internal phone memory courtesy of D2EXT... ^_^
I thoroughly recommend this SD card if you can get it... and install Robocik's D2EXT rom on it.. ^_~
have this card as well with my miui rom D2EXT. runs a treat, games have no slow downs.
got the same speeds as been mentioned already here. Def a step in the right direction i say.
I trying to get good speeds with sdhc class 10 micro card.
with stock froyo I get 10 write and 8 read speed.
after patching the fix "kernel_2.6.32-frankoid" the write speed is go down to 7-8
but the read speed is incrased to about 20 with I mesured with sd tools program
But when i conect phone to pc write is max 5 and read max 14.
How to incrase more the write speed?
Or what kerner is the best for it? With stock froyo I get write 10 but the reed speed was 8 how to keep 10 but change the read to 20

I bought a mustang 32gb microsdhc class 10 card, that am not satisfied with.
It say it will do minium 10mb/s but it does minium 8mb/s
and at max it dosent even go over 10mb/s
While i bought an A-Data microsdhc class 6 that mostly write at 10mb/s
I have a Desire HD and recently started using Lexar 32gb Class 10.
Using SD tools on the phone it says 11.3MB writing speed and 20.8 read speed on average!
When tranferring contents of my previous SD card from PC to the new Lexar using the USB adapter included the transfer speed never got above 10MB/s.
No problems yet. Runs smooth
here is my finding compared to my previous SanDisk 8gb Class 6 card... not sure if im impressed or not..
So does this match other people experience.. im currently on none Rooted Froyo.

I find the files copy quicker to SD cards via a USB adapter. apart from that, I don't like Lexar SD cards very much, I've had better experiences with Sandisk and Kingston, though I've never had a 32GB one, just 16GB and below.

I originally had an 8gb class 4 card and when transferring files between my Nexus and PC I noted speeds of up to around 3mb per second.
I recently invested in a 16gb class 6, but now when I transfer files I am very lucky to even reach 1mb per second. This card is incredibly slow, is this right? I thought class 6 were supposed to be at around 6mb's per second?
strange that the speed is less that the class 4 sd, but u cud confirm the card transfer speed using a card reader
but in any case, you shud note that the phone limits the transfer speeds so u mite never get the full transfer speed of a class 6 card...
Oh, I did not know that the phone would limit the speeds, still, it does seem strange that the speed is less than my class 4.
I shall do what you suggested and try and get hold of an adapter to use my card reader

Where did you buy this card from. If it was off ebay, then it could be a fake & that would explain the 1mb transfer speed.
I recently bought a Kingmax 16GB Class6 microSD card. While I was initially transferring my files from my Sandisk 8GB Class2 microSD card, I noticed that the transfer rate was kind of slow, so I decided to do some benchmarking.
Software: CrystalDiskMark 3.0
3 different microSD cards using same USB card reader
Card #1 - Sandisk 8GB C2
Card #2 - Kingston 8GB C4
Card #3 - Kingmax 16GB C6 (new one that I just bought)
Here are the results (Seq Read; Seq Write; Random Read; Random Write):
Card #1: 17.08MB/s; 5.13MB/s; 17.09MB/s; 1.05MB/s
Card #2: 17.23MB/s; 9.53MB/s; 17.23MB/s; 1.92MB/s
Card #3: 16.05MB/s; 5.22MB/s; 16.73MB/s; 1.02MB/s
Summary: My new Class6 card was about the same speed as my Class2 card.
I approached the vendor and they tested a few other Kingmax card that they had in stock... all cards were reportedly about the same speed as the one they sent me. They swear that it's not fake. Maybe its a bad batch of cards but somthing is weird/wrong. Anyways... I'm sending my card back for a refund. I am going to stick to my Kingston Class4 card now.
1MB/sec can be indicative of USB 1 speeds, is OP sure that its connecting @ USB 2?
The class is supposed to be the minimum write speed, and I assume that to be sequential.
>Kingston
isn't that ring the bell? I mean they are pretty expensive....
I think if you go beyond certain level of quility, the pay off of such c/p ratio will get narrowed and you can't tell difference......
either go dirt cheap or go super HD expensive, middle is kind of "uh they are more expensive than dirt cheap but not even close to those expensive things....."
like my AMD vs INTEL war, cheapest AMD almost always beat middle/low Intel by cost + performance, or just go get best INTEL and enjoy the hell out of it.
happy new year
Hi guys
i recently received my Sandisk Class 4 16gb micro sd card, but im getting pretty slow speeds with it.
Its currently in FAT32 format.
When transferring files from my computer to the card via the usb cable, im getting 3mbps, which is much slower than what ive seen others get with a class 2 sandisk microsd card.
Also when i test the card using 'SD tools' in the app market it says it should have write 5.7, read 10.4, which is not what im getting and still slower than results ive seen others get with class 2 sandisk microsd cards.
I also have an old 2gb Verbatim card (with no class markings), which is currently in FAT format (not FAT32), that came free with an old phone, that seems very quick when transferring files, much quicker, and in SD Tools it gets - write speed 2mbs, read speed 17 mbps.
Questions -
What format should i set the card to maximize performance (not using app2sd)?
Is a smaller capacity card of the same class faster?
(is a class 4 8gb faster than class 4 16 gb?)
Is FAT faster than FAT32?
Is my card defective?
Should i return it for a class 2 as they seem to be faster?
Hope you can help
For starters, which of those 2 file system is really faster don't matter because you cannot use FAT16 on your 16GB card. FAT16 only supports up to 2GB.
Also, class 4 is suppose to be faster than class 2.
sounds like you got a fake Sandisk Class 4 16gb, a knockoff market imitation with low quality component
what is the actual speed test result of the write?

Thanks for the reply allgamer, I've seen many of your posts on these boards and your very helpful
My actual write speeds are 3mbps, when transferring from my pc to the phone via usb cable.
I got the card from play.com so I didn't expect it to be fake. Are there any other tests I could do to confirm its authenticity?
Should I try different file systems like ext2 or fat etc?
3MB/s for a class 2 card is pretty good. I don't what you can expect more from that.
I have an Kingston 16Gb Class 4 and the writing speed from pc -> phone is like 2MB/s, much slower then it should. But in SD Tools its shows 4 or 4.8 MB/s writing speed.

The card I got is a class 4, and being a san disk I expected better write speeds.
What is really confusing is why the 2gb card (with no class markings) I got free with an old phone is much faster at transferring files via usb despite it getting a much lower score in SD tools.
Can anyone explain that?
In addition to not disturb the release threads, discussing the micro sd cards...

eBayers use this program to prove they have received a fake from a seller. http://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/2...standard-in-detecting-usb-counterfeit-drives/
SD Tools - Info and Benchmark tools. With SD Tools you can check your microSD card information (Name, Date, MID, OEMID,...). You can check if your card is fake. (Check serial number and MID and OEMID).You can also benchmark sd card writing and reading speeds.

Well, I have two microSD's.
1- Fake microSDHC & unknown class 8GB, : > worked only cotulla's system but too slow (the newer devs version doesn't work) it needed two hours for first boot, and the second time half hour. the newer devs versions will add about ~20MB Data and will stop. but cotulla's continues to complete the process witch means android boots and works, but slow.
2- Genuine, Transcend Class 10 8GB, : > Very Perfect! too Fast speed!, powerful... needs about ~1 minute or less first boot, & second time about ~10 Seconds! amazing!
I Very Recommended to buy the Transcend Class 10 once... it's very perfect very speed! also cheap, on amazon about $15.
microSDHC Transcend Class 10 8GB ***** 5 Stars for boot Android
yes.nwo i will list the cards that i used.
1.all kingston 's tf card is ok. all can successfully get into the system. the entering time depends on your card's speed. class2 is the slowest, but can be used.
2.most of Sandisk's cards cannot be used. althought you can format it by using the tools, it cannot get into the system. the mistake is that the memory module is different from the others. but Sandisk 's speed is faster than other cards, which have same class speed.
3.samsung and toshiba all OK, can fluently use, just class2 is also fast like class6...
4.some of the none name card can be used, like nokia's normal card, some cards that is given when you buy you mobile phone.
sorry for my poor english..

Of course, that's right!
but about slow start-up process, second time is ok even restart android. but I could know why shouldn't first time be ok? also... it's not brand's problem.. maybe because SDHC are like that... or NAND?
thanks!
i just ordered the TS8GUSDHC10 on amazon for 13euros, will let you know if it works good
I have two of them, both working pretty good: 13M/s write and 18M/s read

Strontium 8Gb works
I have a Strontium 8Gb HC card don't know other details but it works even with winmo folders.
Only all the android files should be in root.
Nice, now you can install (if you want) this app: SD Tools on HD Mini to see details of your card
and this on PC, to measure the speed Crystal bench mark (Portable Edition (zip) for Windows
Here's Manual
So if you have 2 or 3 cards, with this you can measure and compare and know what is better for you
Note that Random Write 4KB (QD = 1) is the most important when it comes to Android port (wich boot and runs on the Micro SD card)
installed SD Tools and these are the results
Manufacturer SD08G
Write speed 5.3MB/s
Read speed 14.3MB/s
Class ?
I tried installing android on 3 cards that i have, but failed.
The cards i used are:
-sandisk 2gb, the one that comes with the phone. (It is reported not to work so i dint care)
-no name 2gb sd card (no class info, but it seems to be class 2) which was provided stock with a nokia phone. I expected this to work since mooncmn had reported it working in the earlier thread.
-transcend 4gb class 2 card
I have formated all cards in sd formatter with full overwite and format adjustment off and then format fat32 on winxp and then i copy the files into phone. All this i do in "disk drive" mode. Then i remove the usb cable and load haret.
I tried out several versions of android as well:
-googlecode : I tried it multiple times on all 3 cards waiting minimum for 10 and upto an hr. When i reboot to wm i can see data.ext has stopped at 30mb on all cards irrespective of the time i let it load.
-munjeni and cm6 : both had the same problem as above, it stops at 30mb which is strange. in munjeni's version it stops at a point which i have attached the pic.
cortulla's port : This version actually worked but had to wait for atleast 2 hours first boot and even then it ran extremely slow, which was unusable.
As for base rom i'm using nsourm's latest WWE rom. Does this have an effect on android?
Ultimately i think all 3 cards are incompatible, ill try it out on other cards. Anybody have a suggestion for a 2gb card that worked for you?
Thanks
EDIT: Transcend 8gb class 2 worked for me!
Hi Everybody,
today I tested 3 SD cards. I stoped booting time of Android from run Haret to first Android "Lock Screen". Here is my result:
1) Kingston 8GB Class 10
Android booted in 1m 30s
1) Kingston 16GB Class 4
Android booted in 1m 28s
1) Sandisk 4GB Class 4
never booted
And... I solved all problems with Android on my HD mini, because I dropped my phone and is broken... I ordered new display from eBAY (20$), so I hope, will be functionaly.

I've tested Transcend 8Gb class 10 for several days
my conclusion:
compared to my SanDisk 4Gb class 4 is the Transcend at least twice as SLOW in booting Android and apps, is LAGGING a lot and drains my batt very fast!
I'am very happy with the SanDisk

Good?!?! That's simply cool!!
Hi guys. Today I have received my new Sandisk Ultra microSDHC 16GB class 6 and I have tested it with SD Tools and the results surprised me much, it have clearly better reading speed, but the writing Speed like a class 4
Afterthat I tested the cards again with a card reader on my laptop, and the class 6 has ~20MB write/read speed. So the prolems comes from my phone, doesnt it? Im really confused now. Should I order a new card, and which one, class 4 or class 6?
thank you guys in advance
Try testing it in another phone and use SD-Tools again to see if the results are poor too.
As stated in the other thread regarding micro SD's I got myself a cheap 29 euro micro SD from Aldi and I'm getting decent results whilst benching it.
Now, the thing is, it seems every phone has its own way of handling those sd-cards sometimes. I bought the same micro SD as I have for my father, he has a HTC Sensation and it was giving nothing but troubles (the card sometimes wasn't recognized anymore, etc.), we also thought it was his phone.. Then he ordered a ScanDisk 32gb card for his HTC Sensation and all works again.
Connect your phone to the computer and format the micro sdcard to Fat32 with cluster size 32k. Backup your files before that. Also if your phone is rooted, search for SD booster in Market, install it, and change your sdcard cache size to 2048 KB or 4096 KB (whichever gives you better speed). Run SD tools again and check for improvement.

I've been at it back and forth with Asus and SanDisk support now as I have yet to get my SanDisk Mobile Ultra 32GB UHS-1 card to work properly in the TF700T.
First card worked erratically and died completely, second card doesn't work at all.
The log of the tablet sais read errors but the card work perfectly in both PC and android mobile (x10 Mini).
Tablet sais it's DDR so I assume it uses DDR50 mode which is the most complicated mode to use due to the data timing.
Has anybody else got a UHS-1 card and had it work reliably in the TF700T ?
When mine was working I was getting sporadic read errors causing copy file from card to device to fail, and video to stutter.
(File copy was aborted by "paste files failed" message.)
These cards would offer much improved io performance vs a normal card and their improved latency should make em improve responsetime too.
I popped by a shop today and tested the UHS-1 card in a TF300 too. It got a hissyfit and went into a mount-loop.
Bought a SanDisk FCS-HS3 UHS-1 compatible USB3.0 reader to test the card on a pc and it performs great. (Well writes are within class 10 spec, and reads are fantastic.) See attached Atto run.
Also got a 32 GB Class 10 Lexar card to see how the TF700 likes it. No problems and everything seems smooth.
I have Sandisk Ultra Micro SD SDHC UHS-I 16GB Class 10 30MB/s and it's been working fine so far, it even rescued me when I needed a firmware update after bootloop, only with lower write speeds than SD, USB disk or internal memory (somehow I get somewhere near ~10/20 W/R on internal and ~20/10 on SD, pendrive, USB HDD etc., btw, seems a bit strange to me, as I would expect it the other way around).

That sounds like how my first card performed. Not fast.
I wish the SD test apps could show a graph like HD Tune on pc. To see how smoothly the card operates.
I know that any errors are masked by android and it resets card and continues thus making a card that hang all the time just appear slow.

It is not about UHS-1 though, I get the same with USB pendrive or HDD.
This is the same test on the same card in a NON UHS-1 reader.
As you can see the readings are drastically different.

Sorry if I'm missing something, but on your screenshot I see 19 MB/s read and 9,5 MB/s write on average on your PC, so how is that different from what we were discussing as the speeds we were getting on the tablet?
Edit: I see your earlier post showing 40+ MB/s read speeds, but this was USB 3.0, wasn't it.
Edit: I forgot we were discussing microSD speeds. If you get 19/10 on your PC, this is in fact 50% more than I'm getting with microSD on the Infinity. It surely shows a major difference.

Yes, USB3.0 with a reader using UHS-1. The UHS-1 is the most important part as that increases the bandwidth between controller and card and also reduces some delays on completion etc.
On the tablet I was getting good speeds and then pauses/breaks getting the average very low on old card. Log showed errors. New card doesn't even mount.
Edit:
It does however show how the tablet is trying to moungt it and what speed it talks to it, also what capability it has.
Edit2:
USB 2.0 can do 40 MB/s too btw, but usually max 30-35. The UHS-1 makes the difference.
For bigger data transfers I'm actually relying more on full-size SD card in the dock or USB disk. Which is of course a possibility only if one is carrying a dock..

Yes, there is no question we have the lags to blame. My microSD writing speeds start with 30-35 MB/s for a few seconds (which is a lot more than I'm getting on my laptop with this card), then the lags make it drop even to 6 MB/s. So these are all the I/O issues we were discussing in so many threads here. Not much will come out of further benchmarks until we get an update (JB / kernel / smaller firmware fixes / hopefully anything)

Untill the 17'th I won't have access to any docs...
Attached is a shot of the dmesg output from where it detects the card.
Notice it registers it as a ultra high speed DDR SDHC. DDR must mean it is considering using the UHS mode DDR50 which is a complicated mode requiring calibration. It also seems to assume/try NTFS first.
I can't see any attempts of uing card in normal SDHC mode after the UHS failing, nor any normal non DDR UHS modes.

I'd like you to scour your dmesg log after one of those glitches, and also after inserting the card to see if there is any significant difference.
My card dipped in speed but usually did not log errors. I think the first retry is not logged if successfull.

I don't get any errors after (re)inserting the card apart from those from tntfs saying the boot sector is invalid, so it's quitting after finding out this is not NTFS (because it is FAT32 ;>).
Tell me what errors do you get specifically, so I could grep my logs looking for them.

Sorry, I missed the last post on the previous page.
Doesn't look good, I don't get any of these in my logs apart from the NTFS assumption, which might be the normal thing (a late attempt to solve the NTFS compatibility issues).
I would try sio if I were you.
Mine doesn't say anything about ultra speed DDR SDHC however, it only gives the "new high speed SDHC card" output..
I'm not sure what you mean by saying that it doesn't treat it as SDHC afterwards - where would you want to have it reported?

Your card works as it does not infact support UHS-1. It's probably one of the "Ultra" cards not "Ultra UHS-1".
The difference is a small U on the card with a 1 in it. (See attached.)
Sandisk has the same card in identical packaging, except for the UHS-1 support. The difference is drastic on PC, and apparantly catastrophic on TF700T and TF300.
See my logs attached.

In fact, mine is not UHS-I, but regular SDHC, sorry about misinforming you, I was initially thinking about getting the one you got yourself and then misclicked on the auction, LOL, I can see it now, bummer! I think it's even class 4, not class 10 (how much slower can it be because of it?). My full-size SD in the dock is UHS-1 and it's been performing well (Sandisk Extreme 32 GB 45 MB/s class 10).

Thanks. Definately a non UHS card.
So far I've found or read about Sandisk Ultra in these flavour:
- Sandisk Ultra XXGB Class 6
- Sandisk Ultra XXGB Class 10
- Sandisk Ultra XXGB Class 10 UHS-1
- Sandisk Mobile Ultra XXGB Class 6
- Sandisk Mobile Ultra XXGB Class 10
- Sandisk Mobile Ultra XXGB Class 10 UHS-1
The packaging on my card sais SanDisk Mobile Ultra but the card sais only SanDisk Ultra. (First card said Mobile Ultra.)
It's really odd how there is always differences on pics I find.

Yeah, mine is not ultra, terrible miss-click. I will use it in the phone probably and will order UHS-I class 10, unless others report same problems as yours.

Could you insert it and check the log?
See if it does anything different on it vs the other?
Unless it has any U on it it will probably only do standard SD speed of 50 MHz givingv 25 MB/s max datarate.
