I know that there are tons of threads about this but none of them have helped. My market just will not work. It shows it downloading, then displays the message "Download failed" for a split second and disappears.
I have an HTC Desire (BravoC/CDMA) with the latest version of CyanogenMod 7 Nightly and ClockworkMod 2.5.0.9 for recovery. I also have Firerat's Custom MTD Partition. Details and links to all these can be found in my signature.
I feel like I've tried everything. Uninstall updates, Installed latest GApps, Installed old versions of GApps, Installed leaked versions of Gapps, cleared cache, formatted device.
This has been happening since the new market website was released. It really sucks, I can't update any apps or download any new apps.
If anyone can offer any help or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you
Try removing SD card then try again. I had the same problem with my galaxy s I removed SD card backup on PC then I formatted it put it back in and market works perfect, don't ask me why but this worked for me

a little weird thing i noticed is,if i have checked the box that allows applications to be download to the external(Apps2sd) whatever i try to download, will be resulted with Unsuccessful. When i unchecked it, my downloads were successful.
See if you have it checked.
I discovered that it was a problem with the CSC file. I had exactly the same issue with a 'mixed up' firmware. Download would not work at all from the market. Anyhow, I flashed the phone (galaxy s) with a different CSC file and the market started downloading.
the only thing I had changed was that file.
So u may want to consider that Hope this helps.
I think there is also a possibility of going to applications --> market, and then stop & clear data.
same situation here...
re-flash the rom and market won't download anything.
But it's strange that I can install apps from web market.
i know i'm at the wrong thread but could somebody help me pls with sgs gingerbread im stuck at on command where it is saying that busybox is not a valid command and thats its not recognized
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, after some time I have discovered what was causing the market issue. It was the Firerat Custom MTD Partition Mod the whole time. Apparently the new version of the market deals with downloads a little differently now and doesn't get along with Firerat's mod.
So now the waiting game begins for a new update from Firerat.
Hi,
NOt a solution, but I found a workaround for this issue on my phone.
I am using Hyperdroid GBX V8 on my HTC HD2 now. From last 2 days I was struggling with this problem. I tried all solutions I found with google. Clearning everything and Reflashing, clearing the market and caches for other apps, reflashing, unmount/mount SDCARD and so on, smaller bigger recovery partition, without EXT3/4 partition.
Still the problem exist on the phone. But I found a workaround. Logon to market.android.com using your google id and password, select the app you want to install and click install. if your phone is up and live, it will be installed in a few seconds.
In other words, pull doesnt work, but push works .
Thanks.
Anil
Hey guys long time lurked, so here is my issue.
I was changing Rom, I had bamf remix 1.4, and I wanted to try another Rom. So backed up my current Rom through cwm, downloaded tesla coil 1.5 so I did wipe and installed tesla. Everything seemed fine, now this Rom does auto recover through Google, and I saw all my apps start to download after I put my account info, so I let it do its thing and it managed to get some apps installed. Then the rest of them just got stuck at "starting download", I've seen it do that before so I usually just cancel the download an try them later 1 by 1. So when I tried to load Rom manager it would go again to starting download but, then would get a notification saying, "Download Error, Download unsuccessful, please try again".
So that's what's going on, I restored my previous back up and it is still doing the same thing. I've wiped and cleared cache . Tried virus Rom and its the same thing . The only way I can get apps through the market is if I push it through a pc on a web browser.
I have searched already, and tried clearing data on market and download manager.

My phone is currently experiencing the same issue, only with all apps. I can download apps perfectly from the browser based market though. I've searched for a good six hours and I've tried everything that has been commonly suggested and nothing's worked.
Menu>settings>applications>manage applicctions > all tab > look For market> clear defaults, clear cache etc. Clear everything. Then try to download again in the marrket.
Well I think there was a fluke with Google or something, I wiped and flashed again and now its working again. When I was still investigating the problem, I used log cat to see what was going on, and the error was an apiexception and it had http 503 error, which I believe means the link is forbidden. This all happened when I flashed tesla Rom and it was auto restoring all my apps at the same time, and I think Google blocked my account or something because of too many download requests. Looks like the block was only for 24 hours. Sorry for rambling
But market is working again

Hi guys and gals. Ive got a few folks on thegalaxytab trying to get the game - wind-up knights.
They keep getting messages when they try to install saying theres "not enough storeage space".
From what i gather its something to do with the market cache space or market storeage on the gtab.
Is there any remedy for this without rooting?
If anyone wants to have a go at installing it via the market then its free - i dont have my gtab anymore so im struggling to help solve it.
Cheers in advance
Same error
I'm have the same error after click the download button. My phone is rooted and I'm sure that it has enough space in both internal (I have just formatted my internal SD and installed a fresh CM 7.1). It's weird because the same problem was happening before installing CM 7.1, when I was using stock ROM.
The exact error message is: "Error downloading "Wind-up Knight". There is insufficient space on the device."
Hmmm I was going to ask what rom are you running. I'm running cm7 ATM and I installed it no probs. Try updating market to 3.3.11 (or whatever the latest is if that's not right...). Try wiping data/cache on market app? Sorry can't be of more help, it worked fine for me...

Already tried
I already have Market 3.3.11. This problem was also happening with stock ROM.
Already tried clearing cache and data for Market and Download Manager applications (as advised by Market help pages and some other forums - try a google search). But no success.
I had the same error, although not on the first download, it was when downloading the update. I just tried it again and it worked fine. I did see other people getting the same error too.
Huawei X5 running Oxygen btw
After reading this post, tried downloading from market, worked fine.
I'm using BOCA rom 2.3.7. Works fine...
Increase your cache memory. It will help..
I had this problem before and simply.fixed it by clearing my memory cache using "acCleaner Pro". Try it and let me know if it also work for your tab.

Hi everybody. I am on latest Revolver with stock kernel and I keep getting this "android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. please try again."
I have searched through all the ROMs' threads to look for solution to this FC but I haven't found any. I have
- wiped cache.
- wiped dalvik.
- reformatted my external SD card through CWM.
- cleared data for the application called "Media Storage" and "Google Framework".
- fixed permissions through CWM.
- optimized my sqlite databases using zepplinrox's supercharger script.
and non of these work. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
edit:
[Workaround/Fix]
For those of you who are familiar with zeppelinrox's V6 Supercharger Script, there's actually an option to bulletproof apps. So the fix is actually to bulletproof process.android.media. Have been running it for 2 days now and so far no FCs Note that I am using the latest supercharger script, Version 6.1. Here's the instructions and it's really painless if you're familiar with the script. For those who are unfamiliar with the script, I recommend you to go to the original thread to read up before applying any additional tweaks from the script.
1. Download the script from the original thread
2. Run the script as root using Script Manager(free).
3. Read the instructions.
4. Select option 17 (Bulletproof Apps).
5. Enter any key for Yes.
6. Type media and press Enter.
7. If there's more than one match, follow the instructions until the script asks if you want "android.process.media".
8. Select Yes and wait.
9. Once it's done, go to Settings > Manage Applications > All > Media Storage > Clear Data. Reboot after that. process.android.media shouldn't FC anymore.
10. Hit some thanks if it's helpful
I don't have an answer (a real noob to the forum, rooting and custom ROMs), but I thought that the experts might find it useful to know that I started having this exact problem several weeks before I rooted (stock 8.6.5.21). I'm on Revolver now and the message pops up just as often.

I see thats your first post.. Welcome to xda.
I'm in the midst of trying something new. it seemed to have worked. let me test it until tmr and will let u know how it goes. it's 1.45am here so you gotta wait like 12 more hours lol.
edit: forget it. what I've tried didn't work. android.process.media FC on me again. I believe it has got something to do with the media scanner but I can't figure out what's wrong. arghhhhh
That error is sometimes caused by google contacts sync error. If you have a contact in your lsit that has a blank last name, it can cause this. Check your contacts then retry.

hmmm I don't think so. I have lots of contacts without last name. I would have been pagued by those FCs. lol. it is the media storage/scanner that's causing this. media has got nothing to do with contacts storage. are you on revolver? I suspect its the latest update that's causing this. he added the odex/deodex tweak which, I'm guessed, broke the media storage. I just removed that tweak. hope it works.
I occasionally have this same FC issue. Currently running stock Honeycomb but I'm also rooted. I'll be following this to see possible solutions.
I get this alot, usually in the first 20/30 minutes after boot. Using Revolver, klem 1.5 (?)

the FCs are just.. irritating. maybe it is because of corrupted files/databases. but I just can't single out the corrupted files or .db files.
I've been getting this too for the last few weeks. I'm not sure what is causing it
tried to deactivate google sync oder any background data? if its gone after that, check out each single option.
Same here for some days now. Latest update, stock unrooted.

just checking with you guys if anyone is using any sort of ram script? eg Supercharger V6 by zepplinrox.
No, nothing unusual here. This might be a co-indicence, but I noticed that I wasn't getting the FC message after flashing Revolver until I started restoring apps using Titanium Backup. I didn't restore any system settings. I tried reinstalling one at a time to see if I could pin it down but I couldn't repeat the problem twice with the same app.
same here
I am running latest revolver 3.11.1 tried all kernels that are compatible with it bu that problem keeps coming. Any help is appreciated.
I was getting those FC on latest revolver but now i am on paul's ics and I am still getting them. Very weird.

any of you mind posting the logcat of your fc then i could probably determine the cause of the error
Code:
I/am_kill ( 214): [17141,os.tools.scriptmanager,13,too many background]
I/am_proc_died( 214): [17141,os.tools.scriptmanager]
I/am_crash( 214): [12722,android.process.media,572997,java.lang.OutOfMemoryError,NULL,MediaScanner.java,-2]
I/am_proc_died( 214): [12722,android.process.media]
I/am_schedule_service_restart( 214): [com.android.providers.media/.MediaScannerService,291346]
thank you sir
basically i think android.process.media gets killed because of insufficient memory. I am using supercharger V6 script. However I've adjusted the lowmemorykiller values using the script such that it can handle multitasking without lagging/stickiness for the foreground app. Anyways, I've also used the script to "bulletproof" the android.process.media. This is just a temporary workaround but hey it works No more FCs!!!!!

in your case it does seem like it was a low memory error caused by the script manager but there should have been some more code above that error as nothing just dies like that
because script manager is just killing it without any obvious reason

That's all that is to "android.process.media". Let me attach my logcat. I'm no good at reading it. Thank you sir. 9gag rocks!
Hey there. I have been trying to resolve the "Package File Invalid", so one of the things i read here on xda said uninstall updates for the android market. I did this, and it installed Google Play completely. I tried flashing a package with the google play market version 3.4.6, but it force closes as soon as I open it. Can anyone help me? :3
I'm not sure if applicable in your circumstance but whenever I start having issues with force closes I reboot into CWM and clear my cache & Dalvik (under advanced) then "goback" & check reset permissions & reboot PHONE .....NOT Reboot Recovery. So far, it's worked like a champ every time for me.
When does it say "Package File Invalid" ?
may Reboot Recovery
It said Package File Invalid when I was downloading Draw Something Free. But thats not the point, I deleted Google Play off my phone and need to know how to get it back.
The point is that the invalid signature error usually comes from either having a broken/warezed/older version already installed, or the download corrupting.
So the signature from the update/download doesn't match what is already installed or has just been downloaded.
Your problem now is that you probably just removed the market but not the other apps it depends on on.
So either restore exactly the market version you removed or flash a new version plus the matching versions of its dependencies.
I've tried flashing both version 3.4.7 and 3.4.6, and they both force close as soon as I open them. Can you show me how to make it work, or tell me how to get it from stop force closing?
I would suggest a nandroid backup and a complete factory reset.. chuck on a custom (up to date (ics) rom) while your at it

Thats the exact reason I haven't yet. I have installed a custom rom and stuff already
I too am having the issue with all apps after 260 apps installed. I noticed that when I uninstall one app I can install a app that had said "package file invalid" two minutes earlier. Its weird.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I have had this problem before, the cause for me was that I was using g a DNS changer. Uninstalled it and that fixed it for me.
Sent from my XOOM using Tapatalk
I don't have a DNS changer installed. I'm using MIJJZ Blend 2.3 and everthing before 260 installed fine, but now I have to uninstall a app to install a app.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Then the only other thing I can think of is clearing data/cache as per http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2011/12/fix-android-package-file-is-invalid.html
Sent from my XOOM using Tapatalk
I had tried that before. I've been bouncing between Darkstar 1.0.2 and Blend 2.*. I have experienced this issue on all Blend builds and never had the issue on Darkstar. Its weird the first time I had the "package file is invalid" error I was reinstalling my backedup apps. It happened ony on 3 apps(gosms, titanium backup, bunny shooter) and everything else installed fine. 2nd time gosms and titanium backup installed fine, but other apps wouldn't install. The funny thing about it is one of the first apps had the error, but I still installed 30+ apps after that. I've wied and reinstalled Blend 2.3 3 times and this last time I got every app reinstalled and even a few more before the error. I uninstalled one app and installed one app that had previously failed. So I tried uninstalling 3 big apps(angry birds trilligy) and still can't install a 588 kb app. I can't install a single app now. Debating on flashing stock kernel, but really don't want to loose cwm.
