[Q] About Inspire 4g - HTC Inspire 4G

Hello guys, firts of all sorry for my bad english...
I'm from buenos aires Argentina, and tomorrow i'll pick a new phone.
ATM i have 2 options.
HTC Inspire 4G or Motorola Atrix 4G.
Atrix unlocked 999 USD.
Inspire 1079 USD.
So, what phone u think is better about the price? and also i have a few questions about HTC.
What is S-OFF
What is ENG-OFF
What is Goldkey? is really necesary?
The phone is already unlocked, so i just need root and flash any rom with CWM? easy like that?
Atm i've a Samsung Captivate, so i dont know what is the better chose, Atrix or Inspire, cos Inspire is pretty much the same hardware than the Captivate.
Also, i dont have any skill's with ADB. i suck with that.

get inspire atrix feels cheap!

Captivate is old get new products

Motorolla Atrix is a decent phone. And I say decent because even with all that processing power, it uses Motorolla Blur as the android UI. Most people have had issues with using it, and can contest that the phone build feels cheap.
The Inspire 4G is a well built phone. It does everything you need it to do, comes with Android 2.2 Froyo, 8 MP camera and a pretty fast processor. Not as fast as the Atrix, but whos counting? Aside from that, HTC Sense UI makes the phone a lot more flexible in how you want to customize it. Though, battery life is subpar. Depending on your usage, a full charge can last about 5-6 hours until it needs a recharge. But other than that, its a solid phone.
You can root either device, but for the moment, its a hassle rooting it. There are no One-Click applications to root the phone to get the Gold Key, which is giving you Admin Access to the phone and its properties. Again, rooting required with many YouTube videos on how to do it.
All in all, I went with the Inspire.

Inspire is not the same hardware as the captivate. not really even close.
even though the atrix has the dual core, inspire is faster at EVERYTHING. with a little overclock, its even faster. you'll probably never get a custom kernel on the atrix, so its never really gonna get faster, unless moto updates it. the only thing on the atrix that beats the inspire is the gpu, and I wasn't that impressed with that on the atrix either.
Edit- and I get more screen on time on the inspire than the captivate. 4+ hours of straight screen on time on the inspire, vs around 3 on the captivate. I've lasted 24 hours on a charge on the inspire with almost 4.5 hours of screen on time before it got below 5%, which is PLENTY for me

I'm sorry if this will sound ignorant.... 999 and 1079...
All right are we talking about 1 grand and 1 grand and 79 bucks?
I'm confused... Why such prices?

Other counties take advantage of the limited availability of devices, you will never get a decent deal there so they have to pony up the big bucks.
We are so fortunate to live in the States.

Too many people have left the Atrix and came to be happy as ever Inspire owners.
We can use Desire HD Roms on our Inspires so the development, time and work has been put in.
I wouldn't sell or trade my phone for anything in the upcoming or current phone market, bottom line.

Noso,
You just need a gold card, the hack kit, clock work mod and a fast and stable Rom.
Can't get easier than that.

Damn... Yes we are... I'm still in shock for those prices... I mean I paid my Inspire 399 cause I wanted no commitment but if you think at costco you get it for 19 bucks ...
Anyways to answer the OP question: Inspire for sure... It may cost you 80 bucks more but once you are spending that amount of money you don't wanna go cheap and get a Motorola POS uahahah

Well, i'm at home now, and i buy both phones for test and get the better one for main phone and the other for back up...
Thanks guys.

Moving On to HTC Inspire

Hey guys. I'm actually relatively new on the forums, though I've had my Captivate since December last year. I have been using ROMs from these forums since the third day I had my phone, I just never registered.
Anyway, I just feel I should make a post thanking everyone. Mostly MikeyMike01 and ChanceM, because the third ROM I ever flashed was Serendipity. And I've been using Serendipity since then. I have indeed flashed things in between, but the longest I've ever had a non-Serendipity ROM on my phone has been less than an hour. So it's safe to say that Serendipity is a physical part of my phone now... In fact, since I'm getting the HTC Inspire, my brother is getting my Captivate (his first Android phone), and the ROM that I pre-loaded for him is Serendipity 5.12. That's how much I trust/love this ROM.
Anyway, does anyone have any opinions on the HTC Inspire? I remember seeing one other person in these forums who switched to the same phone, saying that it seemed like a more sturdy phone.
I will thoroughly miss these Captivate forums though. Thanks are as follows:
MikeyMike01
ChanceM
existz (I use SuckerPunch-Voodoo)
Samsung (LOL I use the KP1 modem, dunno who to thank for this one)
Anyone else who has some sort of mod on my phone.
its way faster and way more enjoyable, I wouldnt go back for nothing u will definately like it.
I couldn't justify spending $500 on a software upgrade.
The SGS2 seems interesting though. Have to find a place to import it fit a reasonable price... The international version is completely AT&T compatible.

After weighing all the pros and cons of the Galaxy S series and the upcoming 2 (talking about the internation/original here), the Galaxy S 2 will most likely be my next device. Decent build, decent software, hardware is top notch, and that screen is something I can't drop now that I've stared at it for so long. Knowing that the international Galaxy S 2 works with AT&T's HSPA+ bands without modifications is also a deciding factor.
please help me out. I'm with rogers canada they are sending me iphone 4. There is no way ill use or open it cause of previous experience. So I'm gonna sell it for 500. Now if you had to buy any of this phone which you would get? Atrix, sgs2, dhd, or nexus s. DHD already available here and nexus s and atrix coming this month. Sgs2 heard somewhere at&t version will be available. So which you would get?

I'd never pay that much for a phone. I'm buying it because my father's iPhone 4 is now eligible for upgrade, but he doesn't want a new phone so we're using his upgrade for mine.

Agreed for the most part. AT&T held back the Froyo ROM without a doubt for stupid reasons, but we aren't sure if the i9000 is actually getting Gingerbread. Yeah, it was leaked, but so was Froyo way back when. I understand that Froyo wasn't released for our phone mostly because of AT&T, but you can't be so sure; it's still just a "leak".

Not true at all. Serendipity is the closest I've found to perfect, but it's still a ROM. From experience and from hearing other people speak about the Inspire, you don't really even need to put a ROM on the HTC Inspire 4G for it to be perfect. I'm definitely going to flash something (maybe something that'll remove Sense UI, I'm not sure if I'll like it), but most of the features in the ROMs are already found on the phone as stock.

I would not get the DHD. I have a friend who has it, and it's just overhyped. It's not as good as everyone makes it seem.
The Nexus S is pretty much like this phone in which you'll have the same amount of development. The hardware may be different in technical respects, but the same in user experience.
The SGS 2 isn't released yet, but when it is, it's going to be a great phone. If it was already released, I'd consider buying it, but I'm not going to wait for it to come out.
The Atrix is somewhat overkill, but if you're entering college or have a need for a netbook/small laptop with basic features (e-mail, Facebook, etc.), then the Atrix is for you. It's just expensive, even with a contract.
Also, please post questions in the Q&A forum; that's why it's there.
Try Cognition 4.1 on your captivate. You won't be disappointed.
The Inspire kicks ass.

Between CM7 and MIUI on the Inspire it blows anything and everything out of the water in the Captivate/i9000 forums. After seeing how Samsung utterly destroys their phones with Touchwiz, I'll never buy a Samsung phone again.
Go with the Inspire and you will not be disappointed.
So DHD is not that good but inspire 4G is recommended? it's a bit confusing. Isn't the inspire 4G just a DHD with another name? Is there something I am missing?
The inspire is a downgrade hardware wise. Should of held out for something more amazing that's coming out this year. If it doesn't have a dual core I'm not interested.

They are basically the same phone. So that suggestion doesn't make much sense...
Inspire is a downgrade in hardware but upgrade in software. Add to that the rooting is quite a pain compared to the captivate...

Anyway, yes, the phones are almost completely similar. It's just that the DHD is European, I believe.

How so? It has a lower pixel density and a Super LCD, which are both a downgrade, but I don't watch videos on my phone. Otherwise, how is it a downgrade? It has 700 somewhat MB of RAM, gets amazing Quad and Linpack scores compared to the Captivate (I don't base opinions on benchmarks, though), and Sense UI, though I might not use Sense...
the insipire isnt much of an upgrade. did u already get it? i personally would still take my captivate over it
I honestly can't see any of the current phones destroy the captivate in functionality and flexibility except for the nexus S. Pure google + decent specs.
The inspire blows cap away in speed, everyone in inspire forums will tell u that and almost all of them are previous captivate owners and switched to it, even blows the atrix away, call it a downgrade or whatever put whatever spin u like on it and its still the top phone to beat. and it works out of the box the radio even works great, i get no random shut downs my battery consumption is better then cappy, I dont get lag at all, it will load any program faster and run it better then the cappy did, watch a video on youtube about it, http://www.smartphoneenvy.com/featured/face-off-htc-inspire-4g-vs-samsung-captivate/ and yes no doubt there will be more better phones out this year same as 6 months from then there will be even more, with my 6 month early upgrade it cost me 300 to get it which I certainly can live with, in 6 months i will get another of the better phones out of the time.
I gave my Cap to my aunt. I have Serendipity 5.12 on it and MIUI on my Inspire. I have around 75 apps on the Inspire and it booted quicker, unlocked quicker, and the notification bar pulled down with no lag at all.
I was running CM7 on it and it was even faster than that.
The screen difference isn't that big of a deal, either, and I've stared at the SAMOLED screen since last August.

Moving in from atrix. Good move?

So, today i deiced i wanted a Infuse after having my atrix for less than 3 weeks. is it a good move?
how good is the performance on this phone?
Great move. I did and I'm lovin it. Everything about this phone is better. Dual core? Pshh my infuse is faster than my atrix ever was. I've had every phone and I love this thing

I'm picking mine up tomorrow, but I'll be keeping my Atrix as my main phone. The reps at the AT&T store let me play with the model device, and the screen looks huge!
Also, Atrix is getting a lot of hate, ATM, but our good friend Kholk is whipping up a nice bootloader bypass where we can be running CM7 and the gingerbready goodness you want.
I did the same and I do not miss one thing about the Atrix.
Ha i guess i did a good move then. this is my second atrix that u bought at best buy for 75 bucks with discounts from here and there.
called att today and told them i was on my second atrix with the same issues. they were going to send me a reburf i was liek not even a month old and getting a refurb. hell naw.
went to the att store told them i was told by the 611 people to go to the store and get it exchanged. they said they couldn't do it and that i was misinformed. i stuck to my story they got on the phone with a manager from att i talked to him and told him i sick and tired and i was going to cancel my contract right there and then. he said not to. that they would ship me the infuse 4g with 2 day shipping. he didn't mention anything about returning the atrix to best buy. so i guess i keep it?
You made the right move. You won't regret it. This sucker is fast and I can type better than any other phone I've had since my blackberry 9000. The few extra mm of screen make a huge difference

im getting more anxious by the minute. played with it at the AT&T store. i loved how thin it is. i look at my atrix now and thing "you fat *****" lol. i still got some love for the atrix though. hopefully i get to keep it to
I just made the switch from the Atrix to the Infuse as well. Only been a couple hours and I'm already glad I switched.
Atrix was a huge letdown IMHO the lapdock was extremely overpriced for one. The plans were outrageous for two. And there was obsoultely no use for dual core. Just overkill. Oh plus the locked bootloader thing killed it too. Can't forget that
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
yeah. i got bored of it really quick. THD games are nice tho. main reason why i had gotten the atrix was the lapdock good think i didnt buy it.

I had a Atrix 4G. Possibly the worst phone I have ever owned, it was just straight trash. I knew better than to get a crappy Motorola device. I had a Captivate for a while and loved it but needed a FFC and flash for the rear cam. I am back on my iPhone 4 but I found someone that will buy my iPhone 4 for $440 and I'll buy the Infuse off another guy for $400. I'm so tempted to do this.
What do you guys think I should do?
I am actually thinking about switching from the atrix too. I can't keep waiting for the bootloader to get unlocked any longer. Not really too happy with anything else about the atrix and pretty much just got it for the dual core. Do you guys think the 1.2ghz will get outdated soon with every phone coming out with dual cores? Worth buying the infuse or should I wait till the SG2 or "attain" or whatever the **** att calls it.

Most of the new phones still have single core CPUs. I'm not worried about the infuse being too slow to run the latest Android version a year or two from now. Look at the Nexus One, it still runs very fast and smoothly on a custom rom. You have to remember that Google designs Android to run on the most phones possible. Extra processing power is really only needed for gaming. And personally I'll take a tablet for gaming, and that can have the higher end hardware.
ITT: People who didn't know how to tweak the Atrix.
I moved from the Atrix and I think its a good move. I understood that the atrix had the power but honestly in every day use, I couldnt tell the difference. I like how the Infuse had side loading from the beginning and TouchWiz > MotoBlur.
Way I see it is I gained a bigger screen that even though doesnt have the res the atrix did, still looks more appealing.
ALSO, I'm actually getting HSPA+ speeds with this phone unlike I was with the Atrix!

From iPhone 4 (AT&T) to Android+HTC?

I've been using my iPhone 4 for about a 2 weeks now, and I really miss Android.
Besides, I travel a lot overseas, and hate to have to use another phone, as the iPhone is still unlockeable.
So i was wondering what would a good phone to get that works on AT&T's 3G bands, and that has android, and that is made from HTC (or Samsung?), and that can be unlocked, rooted and customized, like my old Dream, Magic, Hero and Legend. Also good battery life is greatly appreciated, meaning last at least a day.
From ATT I can get the HTC Inspire 4G ($100), which apparently is very good, but I have no experience with it. People so far are reporting 2 days battery life, which is a lot. So I assume 1 day battery life is very good. They are selling new and unlocked on crapbay for 440 bucks, so I can easily get one there, and sell my iPhone 4. My only question then would be, are all the Inspire 4G rootable? And if i get it from AT&T, would I be able to unlock it?
I liked the Galaxy S as far as I can see, which ATT offers as the Samsung Captivate ($99.99) but I do not hear the best things about battery, and the phone in general, so it appears to be a no go.
There is also the Samsung Infuse 4G ($200), which appears to be getting much better reviews, but i'm not sure i would like a Samsung phone over an HTC one.
Also, I can sell my iPhone on ebay, and get another phone from there, so I does not has to be only those phones.
Any recommendations, thoughts, etc please? Thanks.

Big question is, can i get 12 hours of use of the phone with of mostly talk time, some texting and the occasional skype call? I do not mean to use th ephone for 12 straight hours of talk/text/skype, i mean an average 12 hours use day. Lets say no more than 3 hours total use, and 9 hours of just being on. Cause battery duration reports seems to be contradictory.

Destroyed my smartphone; what phone should I replace it with?

So, I completely blanked while at the beach and walked my Motorola Atrix into the sea. That means I'm on the hunt for a new smartphone - the dumbphone I have right now is driving me crazy. What's the best phone I can get on AT&T without spending more than 200 bucks? I don't mind buying used or refurbished phones.

Buy a second hand samsung galaxy S1. Samsung still brings out updates for these phones and works pretty fast. Or load a custom rom with ICS and your done. Maybe you can buy a S2, not sure if it is under 200.
browse second hands phones keep looking at price/performance. maybe desire S will be good for you, i have this phone and i am really happy with it
Re: Appreciate it
Thanks for all the suggestions, guys (and I kinda forgot I posted on here for a while - explains why I busted my phone). So, two things then.
First off, I'm sort of looking for something that could specifically run MIUI, CM9, has a less frustrating bootloader than the Atrix (though mine was unlocked at the time it was destroyed), and will have ICS already or in the near future. I looked on the Gazelle eBay store and they had some stuff that looked decent but not awesome.
On a different note, I'm open to getting a WP7 phone that can dual boot Android. Is the HTC HD2 the only phone that can do that? I'd be okay with the HD2, but I'm pretty sure it would only run 2G after unlocking it on AT&T's network.
Buy a htc incredible s or samsung galaxy 2 or 3 but make sure u get something that suits ur needs, maybe write down a check list of things u want out of a phone and find one that way. All the best

I went from an Atrix to a Samsung Galaxy note and now every other phone out there just looks too small. I thought the note looked huge when I first got it but now it just seems normal. Never going back to a small phone!
Probably going to get this...
After a bit of research, I've decided that I'll probably just get the Motorola Photon and unlock it. It seems like the best alternative to the Atrix. My main complaints were not enough work on CM7/9 and MIUI, both of which the Photon has. And the bootloader and root are pretty easy to unlock, too. Are there any other comparable alternatives?

HTC Sensation XE is a brilliant phone. It has ics, beats audio and vibrant custom rom forums. It is cheaper than a one x and better value IMHO.If you must have a Motorola then the Photon is okay, not much of an upgrade though.

Of course I know. They are simple to unlock, and if I'm not mistaken there are methods here on XDA that allow you to unlock certain devices via the bootloader/fastboot. Gfree for instance was a free method that unlocked the MT4G for other carriers. And one can easily convert a ATT, Sprint, or verizon device if they have the time. There are actually many guides that tell you how to flash CDMA phones for other carriers, like Sprint to boost/virgin m.

Yes, it is a long story...I must say it is the most durable phone I have ever owned. I ditched my Sensation because it was always laggy without high clocks, so I eventually became frustrated to the point that I just sold it. The G1 is barely tolerable for anything besides calls, which is why I'm holding out till the holiday seasons for some phone deals, I'm hoping that the Nexus will fall below 300. It has been at least 6 months since I sold my sensation, and my friends did make fun of me for the g1. :crying:

I own an HTC Amaze and it's fits your requirements. It is a 4G capable phone with an 8MP/2.2fs camera with Gingerbread with an OTA update to ICS. It is not a slider, but obviously it is touchscreen. It is not an LED phone, but you will not find LED phones anywhere.
Price is close to $300 now, and I'd expect in a few months for it to be at that price. It's on T-Mobile and can have the SIM card unlocked.
