i think about to buy the Desire S in Germany (i'm german). A very important point for me is, that it is possible to root the Desire S and install Custom Roms .
What do you think / know?

Currently no but as soon as the Incredible s rooting guide is out, I'm pretty sure it will work with the desire s.

My friend just buyed the desire s. I think it's an great phone
I've tried running a custom made recovery. It's an signed phone so that didn't work properly.
But i've heard some great news about some Chinese guys that made an root possible. Just waiting for an tutorial!
Realy? That sounds very nice. In german Android-Blogs i've read that the Desire S (and Incredable S) Bootloader is locked and it is impossible to unlock them.
But, the same they said about the Desire Z (T-Mobile G2)
habs mir heute auch angeschafft.
hab noch das normale desire.. root waere mir auch sehr wichtig - und ich wuerde am liebsten sofort loslegen. also wenn du was hoerst.. lass es mich wissen

Mach ich Ich glaub, es ist besser wenn du nur in englisch schreibst, damit jeder Besucher den Thread lückenlos verfolgen kann.
It would be great if you could write down some Experience with this phone. Even in a german Forum.
About the chinese guy who rooted the phone: he has rooted that is true, but it requires the phone to be s-off, which in china/india seems like default shipping.
So he made the rom rooted, not really a method, but even if he has, he probably uses a xtc clip which is a hardware device. And that is what we dont want to root (we want software rooted phones )
And further on: its ok for me to read in german, but please this is an english forum so please speak english, ty in advance.
Furthermore: if you are good enough to develop a method for rooting please pm me. We are still stuck at the IS and i know that the desire s will probably have the same security. I think all the help we can get is needed to get this done quickly. They say its hard to crack, which it is, but not impossible, the difference that it is signed should not make that big of a difference really, we just have to find a way to bypass.

It's really a big matter when it comes to using Titanium Backup or unistalling system apps. Don't know why HTC is locking bl, just for reducing care center pressure?

@tzm41: Well they say its to protect there user experience, but its probably about what u said. We can only speculate about it... Root is very handy for devs/powerusers, for normal users its not really needed, but why they lock/sign the bl its something i will never understand. Everybody is going the Apple way: i say what is good for you (no im not a Apple hater )
Was hoping we would have been through the security already, buts that not the case. The dev team is working really hard on it and hopefully the team will be extended so we can get there a little faster.

Will explain what has to be done:
We have 2 options: or set the radio to s-off (which is safer to begin with, but harder to accomplish) or let the hboot ignore the radio s-off (by flashing a new hboot).
And how to get there is to somehow temporary disable the lock part and overwrite one of the 2. How we get there is currently the quest, but we dont know (yet) how to get there so the quest is still ongoing

Now I don't own a Desire S or anything, but I do own a myTouch 4G and I'm pretty sure they're identical pieces of hardware, but do any of you think you want to try the gfree method? I'mm not sure if the bootloader is the same... but I'd assume it is.

no HTC handset leaves factory with S-OFF, all are default set to S-ON, some time happen in past that some batch left factory with S-OFF, but this was by mistake of HTC.
I don't think he has root the phone with XTC clip because XTC clip cannot root a phone!
The XTC clip is being made just to unlock the HTC's S-ON -> S-OFF phones but it is also a very useful item to create goldcards for android and windows htc hadsets. Goldcard creation with XTC clip takes less than 10 sec.
@gazalan: Its not possible on the Incredible S to use gfree method, that one is fixed, so it will not work on the desire s too, and currently i hear that there is no way to get temproot (there are some proofs of concept available though). So no that will not work.
@raskal. I know that you cannot root the phone just by using the xtc-clip, its just to s-off and than the step to root the phone is really easy, its just easier to explain that way, lots of people dont understand the difference of s-off and root, and im fed up explaining haha. And the guys there with s-offed phones have either test-phones or a fail-batch from htc, i know that. Anyhow the XTC clip can unlock the incredible S, the Desire S shouldn't be that much of a trouble

You can only downgrade IPL/SPL on a CID unlocked device. If you put back de orginal ext rom, radio and os I don't think repair would notice

I'm a noob but I want also to be able to flash my Kaiser TyTNII with another ROM. My question is: I have a German device, could I also install an english ROM? Multilingual ROM's are such ROM's where I can change the language?

Ja du kannst englische Roms nutzen, WWE steht für World Wide English, flash aber vorher Hard SPL auf dein Gerät, soweit ich weiss musst du das Gerät auch CID unlocken, steht alles im Sticky dieses Forums einfach mal d schauen. Empfehlen kann ich dir Roms von Dutty(heute kommt sein nuestes Werk) oder das Schaps 4.31 Rom.

FIrst unlock, then try one by one. Which rom you like, you keep it.
Recomend: not only rom, HardSPL and radio are very importance

I think most of us are having a hard time understanding exactly what you want. Let me try to guess. You want a new ROM for your phone...like a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM. You do not want carrier branding, thus you would like a custom cooked ROM. And by the sounds of it, you are not real sure how to use the terminology which means you probably have not flashed a ROM before.
Please go to the first thread, the sticky, and read what it says. There are links to all of the information you could possibly need in that thread. Yes, it is a lot of reading, but failure to fully understand what you are doing and how it should be done could result in bricking your phone. A bricked phone is good for one thing...being a paperweight. So unless you are prepared for that, go forth and begin your reading.

According to Nutritional Anthropologists Enchiladas are an American creation. They were created by a Mexican Bar owners under the request of three very astute Women from Texas. Also chili con carne I believe is Cowboy cuisine through and through.
Do you have HardSpl installed?..
if yes.. try with mtty... theres a good tutorial to use mtty in this forum.

Makes no difference to me who created them...I love enchiladas and chili. I have had enchiladas in la Ciudad de Mexico--Mexico City for the gringos among us and they are good too. A little different than the texmex in the US but good none the less. I have even had great mexican food in Tokyo.
And now the thread returns to topic. Try flashing from the SD Card. The Wiki has the info on how to do it. The Kaiser Forum is so much better organized than some of the others, thanks to dedicated mods and Alex!

Yea mtty is not for the faint of heart, you can really jack up your device doing that.

Device registry did not help. Still the same network error
Go to the ASUS website and register your tablet, but be aware that it may take up to a week for them to put your data into their system so that you can unlock. I had the same problem, but try every day and if it doesn't work within a week all I can suggest is try to unlock connected to a different Wi-Fi network, I used my home network to register, and my folks' internet to unlock.
These may be purely circumstantial, all I can really say is be patient.
And it is not a problem with your MAC Address, several people have been screwed over by sending their tablets to ASUS and receiving them back unable to unlock or root, so beware.
ASUS does not provide support for unlocking your bootloader, since this action voids your warranty

Ever had a TF300 some time ago.
But since Bootloaderunlock went on the same day.
Then I'm going to a week-every day I try to open the stupid bootloader did ^ ^
Hope it's really the same problem as them in!
Had already tried it in a different WiFi network to provide.
but, unfortunately, the same network error!
It also had a second try TF300 16GB model and had the same problem again and network fault!
Assured me on the phone the staff from Asus.
it must be possible.
Asus nothing bordered on the bootloader.

Wait for ROM or just buy a S3.
The Fanbase and developer is greater on Samsung devices, so these ''ports'' are rare on the One S.
However, this is the reason why you have to wait for this kind of ROM. The developers are cooking ROMs not for only ONE user, the goal is the hole users and owners of the 1S with interests for Custom ROMs.
Btw: Booth ROMs (1S and S3) has pro and contra.
i would decide to use the stock ROM from 1S.
