So I've downloaded and tried Wyse PocketCloud and AndroidVNC. Both will connect to my laptop (Ubuntu 10.04). Problem is, if I hit a button, open a menu, etc, it will show on my computer, but the "desktop," on the phone never updates. This is over wifi from my internal network, so I can't justify more than a second or two of lag.
Anyone else had this problem, or know of a fix?
Running a Samsung Vibrant, rooted, with Bionix V
I know this is a dead thread but I have the exact same problem. AndroidVNC worked perfectly when connecting to Windows 7 but I am trying the same device with Ubuntu and the screen just doesn't update.
Even disconnecting and reconnecting gives the same out-of-date screen. I suspect it to be an Ubuntu problem.

Hi all
i have a problem.
its not related to only one pc but all windows xp machines ive used ( im not going down vista route at all).
nearly everytime i connect my phone/ppc to windows, it crashes, ie, i get the windows 32 process host or something has an error then the RAPC window with 1 minute countdown comes on and my computer crashes or restarts.
then if i connect my ppc, its fine.
its not only with 1 pocket pc, its with the 2-3 ive tried.
they all run windows mobile 6 or 6.1...
anybody have the same problem and know what to do? activesync 4.5, u can see the icon connecting and it has made the noise its found the pocket pc, then bam...
i couldnt find this topic anywhere in xda, dont know where else to look
Cheers
It is not the PPC's at all - rather incompatible hardware on your desktop, such as an installed dial-up modem or other network device.
I had similar difficulties back in time on a Dell desktop until I removed a special DS Sound Card. A friend of mine had similar problems until he removed - following my recommendation - his dial-up modem card.
You will have to figure out what device on your desktop causes this incompatibility - please: before plugging out anything, remove the installed drivers first!
oh man. they are both laptops. thats going to be tough to remove something/uninstall drivers - doable but its going to annoy me everytime i log in
Hmmm,
try running your pc in save mode and run only what is needed for ActiveSync to work - not a nice solution but at least you can determine if this is an incompatibility issue or not.
Hi All,
I'm running Windows 7
1. Suddenly my Windows Mobile Device Center Failed to recognize my phone and connect to sync. After some troubleshooting I realized the "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter Driver" Failed to work correctly Saying "This device cannot Start (Code 10).
I uninstalled the driver in the Device Manager and attempted to Search for the Driver again after a Restart, my phone was again found while attempting to Sync but once again during Driver installation it failed and gave the Exclamation Mark stating an issue and sure enough it is the Code 10 error again.
2. This exact same issue happens when attempting to Tether to use the Phone as an Internet Modem. The Network Adapter driver to Tether is "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device" and it also doesn't install fine anymore. So no Tethering for me via USB.
Now, all the above happened suddenly while using the Internet Tethering with no issues. It simply disconnected and then that was the end of that.
Let me tell you to what Extent I went to try to get this to work. I re-formated my hard drive and re-installed Windows 7. And NOPE it didn't work. Windows Mobile Device Center is properly installed and that is when all the drivers are provided, during the WMDC installation. Once WMDC was installed, my phone was found, the Activsync feature and the Internet Modem feature, and the driver installation attempt happened, The correct drivers were found, but they just weren't Installed successfully as explained above. I'm currently browsing the internet using the Bluetooth PAN Internet Sharing, which works wonderfully with no issues.
But I really need to get the above two items working again, otherwise I can no longer connect my phone via activesync or better said WMDC for Windows 7 to Flash a New ROM.
Now so that nobody thinks it's a problem with my phone, I have three other computers where I can connect via WMDC and Tether via USB with no issues. But I'm having trouble with my Dell Inspiron 9300 which gave me no issues for Months until now.
I considered myself very computer savvy but at this point I'm really stuck!
Any help?
Thanks in advance,
Raudel

The Windows Mobile Device Center that gets Installed is the one with Windows Update. So it must be the correct one with the Win 7 Drivers.
Thank you for your reply.
Any other ideas would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Raudel
i have the same problem with win7 and HTC touch2
i cannot solve the problem with HTC touch GSM everything is OK
any Help !!!!
I'm also getting this problem. It just began after a hardware upgrade. Microsoft remote adaptor cannot start. I have tried re-installing device centre numerous times and i cannot get device center to recognise my phone.
It works fine in disk drive mode however.
Edited to add that my device is recognised fine on other machines. So it is an issue with my PC. Interestingly my wireless usb adaptor won't work either.
I had a similar problem, found a solution online. There were some issues with Intel P55 chipset, it sync up immediately after BIOS update and reboot.
Hope this makes your day, best of luck.
Hey everyone, just finished installing Ubuntu to my dell mini 10v netbook. I really like it so far but I have hit a problem that may be a potential deal breaker. Has anyone running Ubuntu 9.10 been able to tether their phone to their computer?. It does not seem to connect to my phone running this app for me. It sees the SSID, and i tell it to connect, and then I just get that circle thing for a couple of minutes then it gives up and connects to my main router if its in range.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm not sure if its Ubuntu or the app, it worked perfect with XP
I don't run Ubuntu on my netbook so it may be slightly different, but I have it working great on mine running Arch Linux. Wifi tether uses an Ad-Hoc mode where most routers/access points use Infrastructure mode. You may have to tell network-manager or whatever controls your wireless settings to use Ad-Hoc. If that doesn't work you could set it up manually through the command line or make a little script with those commands to do it so you don't have to type them in every time.
thanks for the reply. I did some searching and came across this page http://www.ubuntugeek.com/creating-an-adhoc-host-with-ubuntu.html and i hooked my phone up to my windows computer, copied the info verbatim to my ubuntu netbook setting up a manual connection like that page suggested and it says it connects, but my phone doesnt show anything is connected and it wont go online
I am able to tether just fine via my Dell mini9 running Ubuntu 9.10. Are you able to connect to other networks?
yeah i can connect to my home fios router just fine
FoxRacR17 i was having the same issues with my dell 1501 laptop.. Looks like your laptop might be using the bcm43xx chip-set from broadcom which doesn't support ad-hoc fully native yet on all cards.

I was having issues trouble shooting WMWifiRouter and Ubuntu.
I couldn't pin down if it was Ubuntu or WMWifiRouter which was having the problem connecting.. I could see the Ad-Hoc network in Ubuntu when i would try to connect it would just hang. I played with all the settings in WMWifiRouter to no avail.
Turns out it was my wireless driver.

I had to revert back to Ndiswrapper.. But it worked!!! Those having Linux issues check the driver.. I didn't have a windows box with wireless to check.. So took me longer hopefully this might save you some time!

Try Ndiswrapper from the windows drivers on HP's site. Let us know the results..
I'm having this problem with an atheros 5G chipset
Thanks for the replies guys, i got it fixed. I saw people saying to try the netbook remix version of ubuntu so I went ahead and installed it. At first it wasnt detecting any hardware drivers so it wasnt even giving me the option to install drivers for my wireless this time. But i went into terminal (with my ethernet cord plugged in and netbook connected to the internet) and issued "sudo apt-get update" and it went thru and downloaded a bunch of stuff that took a while, and then i went back to restricted drivers and this time I had TWO options for my wireless card, one that was licensed propitiatory from broadcom themselves labeled "Broadcom STA wirless driver" and one that was licensed as free and labeled "Broadcom B43 wireless driver" I installed the STA one and now my netbook connects perfectly to my hero and i can go online again thru my phone. Hope this helps you guys out
My question is, what would you do in my situation?
My Xoom connected to my computer (HP Pavilion dv6000) (Windows Vista) once before in past times. It will not connect anymore, I have done everything possible that people have said to do. Still in the same situation.
I connected it to my mothers Toshiba Satellite U505-S2950 (Windows 7)after installing Moto software, and its working perfectly.
Should I re-install Windows/Re-set to default? I've tried everything, from installing drivers, to changing permissions, to installing adb, blah blah blah.
I just recently found DropBox which I am using now, until I can figure out exactly what to do with my HP.
Anyone? TBH: I don't want to use my moms laptop every time I want to transfer a movie to my Xoom, rather it be mine.
Appreciation is high.

So I guess you are using your original Xoom USB cable, and have tried different USB ports (like the ones on the back if you have a tower), you tried with debugging on and off, you've tried with the USB plugged into the Xoom 1st and then into the computer as well as the other way around...do you have Windows Media Player (9?) installed on your pc? It seems it needs it to connect....
Its not a solution to USB woes as I reckon I am in the same position with XP Windows machines, but an alternative.
Why not run a FTP Server on either your Laptop or your Xoom....
I doubt its as fast as USB transfer but may be quicker than Dropbox (definitely quicker for me in the UK with cruddy upload speeds !!!)
I use FTPServ on the PC and SwiFTP on the Xoom as the FTP Server - I just switch each one on when needed depending on which copy method I feel like using
I use Total Commander for the FTP Client on the Xoom.

Interesting idea...
This I suppose could be seen to be quite drastic, but it will fix 99.9% of all USB related issues across windows OS's

>Right click My computer and manage, you are using Vista? So will probably need to run as admin.
>Go to device management and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
>Ok delete the lot
>Yup delete the lot
What this means is that it should now prompt you to reinstall the drivers for any USB device plugged in to the PC, yes you may find that you have to unplug and replug in your keyboard and mouse to re-install the drivers for those devices. But it should also re-install the Motorola Xoom drivers also.
At the end of the days its quicker to try this than re-install Windows
Unfortunately not every USB Root Hub or Host controller displays what it actually is, some do but that's a case of right clicking each one to see what it is. If for example it states that its a mouse then perhaps don't delete that one but hopefully you get my drift.

Hey XDA,
I recently bought a cheap Android TV Stick, a MK908 to be precise. I did't pay much for it, because the previous owner said it didn't work well. Indeed it doesn't really function like it should (sometimes boots regularly, sometimes shows glitches and just reboots), so I decided to flash another firmware to see what that does.
However, it doesn't seem to work. I obviously have read how to flash, so to connect the stick with the OTG-port, press the button and connect it to pc while the button is pressed. But windows tells me it found a new usb-device, and not even a second later it tells me the device is disconnected. I am using windows 8.1 in a virtual machine on a macbook through vmware fusion. OS X (10.9) is completely up to date, windows too. I have told vmware to always connect the tv-stick to the virtual machine, not to the mac.
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Below is an image of the internals of the stick.
