Wind Mobile Users: Battery Life - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For all those nexus s wind mobile users, how long is your battery lasting? I know 3g is killing my battery but would like to get some feedback from other wind mobile users.
I guess I'll start it off... I'm currently running NSCollab12 and running average of 13-15 hours with normal usage. This would involve constant background data, sync, autobrightness, trillian, tweetdeck and some sms. Phone calls does drain my battery. Heavy usage (constant use) would only lead to around 9 hours battery life. No facebook app as I noticed it drains quite a lot for a background software.
Any tips to prolong battery life?

one full day on 1 charge (23h) using it normally, few phone calls, browsing the web
email check every 30 min, auto sync of other stuff like weather, calendar, etc, etc also every 30 min
using the original battery only
i get 21h using after market fake batteries

What rom are you using? That seems better than mine.

Battery battery place anyone.

Ok so may be I'm just panicking but I got my infuse last night. I drained it to 0 and charged over night. Since the morning I've used a bunch of SMS, emails and what's app. And its 1pm and after a reboot battery us at 7%. What the hell? Is it just me or that's how this phone is??

It's just you and the battery life should get better over the next few days as well.

No just use it. In a few days it will get better, but if you want iphone battery life You'll have to get an iphone.

My battery easily lasts all day if all I do is check/send emails, texts/chat, and play some games. Even when I stream iheartradio from a full charge in the morning it will be about 30-40% remaining by 12-1pm (4-5hrs of streaming) on top of email/texts/chat. I bring my charger to work because I tend to stream radio all day and no battery is up to that task for 8 or so hours a day. Battery life kills my iphone3g which was ready for the charger by 10:30-11am doing the same stuff.
Why would you drain a lithium ion battery down to zero?

for the record this phone gets better battery life than either of my iphones did
I've had the same experience you have had. It's 4:00 pm my time and I'm down to 5%. It's been charged all night and was taken off the plug today morning. Made a few phone calls, surfed the web for a bit, gps, bluetooth, wifi are all OFF. Texted on regular messaging and kik messanger for a bit. Skyped my brother on wifi for 3 mins.
From experience, when I did more than this, on my iPhone 4 I'd barely be at 50% by now.
Battery is an issue with this phone for sure. I don't know if it's a bad batch (as some have mentioned) or just general Infuse behavior. I'm giving this phone another week and if it doesn't improve, I'm going to sell this.
Check your settings, make sure there aren't things constantly updating in the background. That will drain your battery like you guys seem to be experiencing. Also if you are using high screen brightness, good by battery this puppy with the 4.5" screen eats battery.
Itll get better in about a week, thats how mine was.
Keep Wi-fi off in the status bar when your not using it and keep GPS off, those 2 helped my battery life tremendously.
A few tips before u jump to conclusion and start blaming the phone battery. Take in consideration - running services, auto sync, bad apps not letting phone going in to deep sleep, pressing the home button instead of back button to close apps, lots of Widgets, live wallpaper, having brightness to high, using navigation, games and so on ect ect. These are things that will shorten your battery life. I'm not saying not to use your phone but if you can, keep to minimum unnecessary stuff. BTW I get a full day with heavy used with no auto sync only Gmail, no unnecessary background service, GPS off and ones in a blue I use a task killer. I had 3 android phones and by far the Infuse had the best battery life.

Mine is more like 7%/hr, which is totally unacceptable, I have all sync turned off, except exchange... with my HD2 running Froyo, I could do 2%/hr with the same settings.... I am still trying to figure out what's draining my battery...
I have also noticed high data usage.. I've tracked it down to T-mobile's AppPack. I've never used the program but it's constantly draining away my data... Is there a way for me to remove the app or disable it?
Thanks!
Get Watchdog from the Amazon appstore to find out what's draining your battery. I believe it costs, but it is a thoroughly useful app
Don't think we can remove carrier apps until we have root...that said, you could try adb pull, but I'm not sure whether it will have any effect. May need root for ab pull, in which case we can't get rid of carrier apps :/ sorry

On my hd2, it was like 1% on idle on android, here it seems to be more , like 3-4% on idle.

its funny how some people report 0% battery drain in 9 hours and other get 3-4% drain per hour.....
please post how many charge cycles you went through, its important.
I am personally using HD2 and battery live is amazing. and its only 1250
this has the best battery life ive ever saw. I'm in 0ma all the time the phone yesterday lasted from 530 am til 7 pm at night with a lot of text and playing games like homerunbattle 3d. If you play that game you know how much of a battery hog it is. Best battery life. Battery was soo good i barely charged it went to work with a 40% battery and it easily made it through a day with moderate texting all day!!
Gotta say... coming from a TBolt this thing is like sex in a tin can.
Idle is 1-2%/hr probably. I would get 10%+ on my TBolt at times... if not more. It was bad.

Darn it...
Seems like I'm the only person with excessive battery drain...at 7%/hr....
Just wondering, when you go into battery stats and extend the graph, does your phone stay awake when the screen is off?...
Mine seems to be awake all the time even though the screen is off.
I got Watchdog yesterday, I didn't notice any apps with high CPU usage...
Me too.. I lost about 8%/hour in 2g standby mode... Totally unacceptable comparing to my previous galaxy s...
Hope next FW update will improve it ..

today is the first time I'm having issues. Only 4 hours since charge & down to 40%. The Awake time shows as 99% of Up Time. Is that normal??? Also, anytime I look at the task manager it shows wifi calling running even though I have it shut off
I've got an Asian model sensation (ie. 3g and not 4G model ) and I find my battery isn't really calibrated properly so its hard to comment on average percentage drop per hour. I've recharged my battery 3 times already and i find the battery stays at 100 percent for around 30 minutes of constant on web browsing, then it will drop at a rate of 10 percent every half an hour with constant use and will fluctuate.
To report on a rough usage breakdown, with all background syncing disabled, I managed to get 10 hours standby before my phone dropped below 10 percent. This was with 5 hours of screen being constantly on doing mainly web browsing on 3g and one 15 minute phone call using my wireless Bluetooth handsfree.
I can report the battery life with constant usage is better than what i got with ny hd2. Running android ROM, it used to do around 3 hours of constant web browsing before the battery will fall under 15 percent. In standby my hd2 used to drop around 1% per hour, which was quite excellent.

Those are the stuff I'm talking about, it appears that one of the settings and/or app is constantly using the processor, which causes the phone to stay awake even when the screen is off... I just haven't figured out which app is causing the problem.. I am suspecting it is one of the Tmo apps.
I'm looking at a full battery life of 11 hours, 49 minutes with moderate usage (some calls, decent amount of texting, some games). I use the app/widget "Battery Left" to do its own independent assessment of battery usage and life.
So far the battery reminds me of my early days with my Nexus One -- before I had it rooted and optimized and undervolted. Once rooted and optimized, I saw a good 50% increase (at least in battery life).
If you'd like some relief right now (before we get it rooted), I recommend Juice Defender on the market. It turns off data (among other things) every now and then to save battery, and with this I can squeeze out 18+ hours with moderate usage.
how are you checking the percentage? when I looked in the settings menu, all I see is a long green battery bar, no actual numbers. Or are you all estimating from that?
I don't monitor my standby time, but I'm sitting at what looks like 40% after 13 hours of fairly moderate usage during the day, I'm impressed.
Ive been getting about 9 hours out of a full charge. Had to put my phone on the charger today at around 4 o clock because it was dead. I dont have much more info other than that. I will keep an eye on my processes over the next few days. I have only 3-4 cycles on the battery though.
To check the percentage of the battery life u have to download some battery widget in the market.. I.e smart battery monitor or battery percentage s.th like that...
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
You can also check battery level by opening Phone and dialing *#*#4636#*#* and then select Battery information.
I'm using Juice Defender and I have to say it really does the job : my Sensation lasts More than one day and a half (30min calling a day, texting, Android Market, Angry Birds...). Without the app running it would last a day (Angry Birds drains...).
Juice Defender says it is increasing battery to 1,53% and it is very close from reality.
I've been owning the phone from 24th of May.

[Q] Poor battery life

So I just switched from a rooted Evo to a Charge. I rooted it on day one and have had what I consider to be poor battery life. With everything off except mobile data, I'm losing about 5% per hour just idling. My Evo would lose 1% an hour or less when running AOSP roms an little more with sense roms.
I took my phone off the charger around 9 this morning. I've sent 50 texts, maybe a few more. My battery is as 52% right now. Maybe I expected too much, but I didn't get a TB because of the crappy battery life.
Right now I'm running Gummycharged 1.8.1 with the standard kernel that it came with. I don't have 4g here so I have that auto search turned off as well.
Is normal or should I unroot and bring the phone in?

From my day to day use, this sounds about right. You have 4G kn right? Not 3G? If on 4G this sounds totally accurate from my experience.

I get roughly 19 hours on a charge with my thunderbolt..so not sure what you ment there...anyway it looks like you are getting 8-10 hours.. that's normal
I get anywhere from 8-10 hours of heavy use, when I say heavy I mean it, music and browsing the web at the same time, calls and browsing the web at the same time, txting, skype, email.. but keep in mind while I do have the stock battery I kill EVERY task and clear RAM whenever I set my phone down, the biggest killer of battery life is just tasks running in the background, remember this phone has a built in task killer, even when rooted & ROM'd.
Another tip would be to keep a spare battery in your wallet, when I stay over at a friends and don't have my charger or I just need a quick full charge I just pull out my wallet and switch the batteries, it's only like $10-$20 for a spare battery depending on where you get it.
If you want longer battery life, you left on the only one that is key to saving the battery !! If you are just in standby or just using the telephone and textings, turn off mobile data, that is the power sucker. Turn it on as needed. Even if you are in a 3G area, the LTE chip stays powered up and this is a big drain.
My phone will last the weekend using this method.
What actually drains the battery is having your screen on. Look at your battery stats in your settings. That will show you what is killing your battery the most and then you can adjust what is needed

Battery life up to 30 hrs?

So i've read forums about battery life exceeding 24 hrs...i've seen the topic's about using wifi when available, turning off data, using only 2G, and I've done all that...buuuuut im not getting no where near that life span.
im still getting maybe 5-6 hrs.. and thats just really texting, facebook/twitter (occasionally) and xda app 2-3 times a day.
What gives? Am i just using the phone too much? Is that 24 life span standby only? Someone please explain...Thanks

Are you using a stock rom, custom rom, stock kernel, custom kernel? Info man, info! I've seem some testers for Morfic's up and coming kernel for cm7 stating their 24+ hrs. I'm using latest cm7 nightlies, faux's kernel and I get 15 hrs light use with full signal. That being said, I think there is already a thread about this; try searching for it, there might be more info. Or I might be wrong.
Using CM7 with stock kernel I get around 24 hours. The best thing you can possibly do is rig up something that will underclock your phone to minimum when the screen is off. PimpMyCPU and SetCPU can both do this, which app you use depends on which kernel you run.
On the stock rom with all of the bloat and without adjusting sync options for all of your apps and accounts, your battery life will be horrible. A lot of bloat auto runs in the background. After removing the bloat, I would get a consistent 12 hours with two email accounts syncing, Facebook, twitter, mutplie pulse feeds, weather etc..
When I turned off data and syncing, removed the sim and just used the phone as a gaming and web/xda browsing device, I got 3 full days of battery life. Yes, 72 hours. This is on cm7, stock kernel. Wifi stayed on for the most part, (set to turn off when the screen turns off) and I spent a couple of hours total gaming on it.
Data KILLS the battery life on this phone. You'll gain a significant amount of battery life by managing the amount of time it runs when you're not using the phone.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
To the OP, you're like most of us and use the phone for entertainment, with constant use the stock battery will be down to about 50%, with watching videos, gaming and browsing the web within 3 hours.
I seriously doubt anyone is getting 24 hours on stock battery even using custom ROMs. It could be that they don't even use the phone, and they have juice defender while it's on sleep, to get such numbers, or they' re exaggerating and posting fake info to push a certain ROM.
As far as 15 hours, that seems to be what the stock battery is able to achieve before it dies. So, no the cm7 ROM is not achieving anything that stock ROM isn't as far as battery life.
I have the mugen 4500mah extended battery, and since having it for about a month now, I can say with heavy usage, i.e. watching movies, listening to radio, playing videogames nonstop constantly, hour after hour, the battery will last you from morning until next day early morning. On very light usage just using it as a phone with very light browsing, out will last you about 2 days. I thought out would last me a week but I seriously don't know what is dreading the battery when on standby, and this is ther problem with the phone.
Maybe it's the apps that are accessing data when not in use and the radio. Right now I'm trying to see if droidwall will help to extend battery life, by not allowing programs to access the network.
I'm currently experimenting with a Tasker setting where the phone drops data to 2g only when the screen is off. I can't turn off data altogether because I use Google Voice for all my texting (save $10/month), otherwise you could save a huge amount of battery by disabling data completely. So far I'm not noticing any change with just 2g.
Well everything i run is stock....i think...im new to all the custom ROMs and stuff...all i did with my phone was use NVflash, clockwork mod and load cm7 nightly (version 75 currently) ....i lovr it and glad i came across this site with TONS of info...i learn new stuff daily by just reading posts on the forum but idk how to use custom kernels or load them or any of that...i dont want to start talking about that here since im sure theres a post about it in the forum ....but i just didnt know if that battery life span is capable of being reached or it was a load of crap....

I cannot break the 9 hr battery barrier! Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

CM7 nightly+ Faux's kernel + SetCpu + Juice Defender = 8-9 hour battery life. I have tried EVERYTHING!!! I cannot make my phone last longer than 9 hours. What am I doing wrong? I'll take all suggestions....

If you're getting 8-9 hours with heavy use then that's pretty good. What do your battery usage statistics look like? If you go to Settings > About Phone > Battery Use ... what is using your battery and what are the percentages? Maybe post up a screenshot.
Maybe I'm expecting too much.

Same here man i only get to 5-6 hourf sometimes just 4 thats all,i mean yes half of time im txting but i have my brightnes on auto, running juice defender and also have advance task killer pro. I do multiple emails and time o time on web as well, same as gaming. Im running the rom xboarder OTA GB, what could be my issue :/
Doing it wrong.
EB 2.3.5 + Trinity kernel
Charge your phone before sleeping. Leave it idle while you sleep, unplugged. If the battery stills drains you have an issue. If connected to wifi - shouldn't take more than 20% off your battery. If you have a weak signal, it could drain your battery.
Sounds like you're just always on the phone. Buy an extended battery. $10 on ebay from hong kong.
With moderate usage, in GREAT signal areas and/or wifi I can last 20+ hours. With poor coverage (where I work) I can't go more than 5 or so. The radio seems to eat the battery unless you have a strong connection.
set screen brightness to 25% unless you really need it. set a profile for 312 max/216 min screen off on setcpu. turn off auto sync. use your power control toggles. shut things off when you're not using them. basic smart phone theory. my battery drops 1% every 2.5 hrs. when idle. fwiw, i'm using the stock tweaked rom with updated baseband.
MIUI + Stock kernel = 20 hrs.
....
Uninstall the task killer....its not necessary. That could be eating ur battery. Im a fairly heavy user and i easily get 12 hrs on average.....mainly texting and browsing. I dont make many phone calls
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I use this phone mainly for phone calls How crazy does that sound? I get awesome battery life. I'm running stock 2.3.3 and juice defender beta 3.5.9 and I get 14 hours on moderate use. I talk about 2-2.5 hours, send 30 texts, send 3-5 emails, browse for 1 hour, stream music for 1 hour, browse the market for 15-25 minutes, and occasionally play some tegra games (no more than 20 minutes, but this eats the battery up the most).
If you want more battery life, there is a 3500mah battery with a custom cover that should keep you going a full 24hours, its cheap too, but a little bulky. They are talking about it in the accessories section.
I can do 2.5 hours of gaming or 3 hours of browsing, to go from 100% to forced-shut-down. I find setcpu made it worse during idle times. I was using faux uv/oc and I realized performace was noticibly the same when I forced it down to 700mhz, so I did. But, during standby, when before at stock speeds with custom kernel I got 2-3%/hr drain, it was draining upwards of 10% per hour with the speed forced down in setcpu. This is all with the home screen as the open app during standby.
You will find that keeping google maps open (GPS off) during standby leads to a 5-10%/hr drain even though the phone should be doing the exact same thing with the app during standby as the home screen; nothing at all.
I will use the phone sparingly and I had it run out during my work day a few days ago, very embarrassing. I listened to less than 1 hour of music, browsed 30 minutes, used maps with no gps as that is broken anyway for a total of 30 minutes, texted about 40 in/out messages, and talked 20 minutes over 6 phone calls or so. I'll warranty it for the broken gps. Hopefully there are new G2x's out by now and I'll get a new revision or something.
