Ive tried both methods super one click and the manual one! and they still dnt work out for me. Is there a rom that will root your inspire and install custom roms like the one on the atrix(gingerblur)??
I know it seems hatd to root its really not, i too almost gave up i used attn1 hack kit, read the instructions first be patient. I found a link to videos that helped me.

Rooting
I tried the one click rooting and got left hanging with no sound on 4 occasions - I could never get it to work after the rage installation phase. I had s-off , but couldn't get root. Since I now was getting desperate, I used the hack kit and followed the unzipped instructions in the extracted folder. I had to get and load adb on my ubuntu pc to install Visionary on my inspire after that it was easy. I loaded Revolution rom and am happy with it. I'm a complete noob and have had my inspire only 3 weeks and have no other android experience. If I can do it, so can you.

I've had two inspires already and used both methods (one on each phone). They have both worked for me. You have to root in order to have custom roms. Have you followed the instructions to a T? What are you getting stuck on?

Thanks for the quick replies guys! The inspire is my mom's and shes been having problems with it regarding the sd card unmounting by itself, getting stuck in landscape mode and etc... and i myself own the atrix and so im not that familiar with the inspire
The part where i get stuck at is when i put in the command "hackerize-ace install-downgrade" after i put in those commands and press enter, it says not installed, what am i doing wrong?
Edit: when i try the one click method, the part where i get stuck is at hboot, it doesnt seem to find any images it constantly say "no image, wrong image"
anyone know how to fix this?

Make sure that you have the HTC drivers installed correctly. If you don't your computer cannot communicate with your device to push the downgrade rom to your phone. It doesn't matter which method you are using if the drivers are not installed correctly they both will not function correctly.

I downloaded Bubby's One Click program (3-21-11_RC2.exe) and here is exactly what happened:
1. I know this may be my undoing but I did not turn off antivirus, it found a virus and cleaned it. Knowing my luck it cleaned something out that was critical in the steps.
2. I got the goldcard done (website was down the other day). I got it downgraded and now I have a working debranded Froyo Inspire 4g on 1.32.405.6. But with no sound.
Now something went wrong during a command prompt part and the program did not progress. I tried rerunning the program but it does not progress as it should.
What do I do now? I am going to try follow Cyanogen steps on their Wiki but is their an easier fix?
You need to completely disable or even uninstall your anti virus. Then, delete all of the one click root files. Then redownload, and start over.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
You could push rage to your phone to root it you can still root it with the downgraded rom. You don't have to start from the beginning. Just the part that pushes rage after you turn you anti virus off and redownload the gui.
The downgraded rom does not have the right audio drivers which is why you have no sound.
Also next time please search as there are many many many threads about this.
Mods please close.

I did a search and did not find the procedure. I also searched on the internet. The problem is I do not know how to fix it and rerunning the file does not work. when you do a search for no sound Inspire 5 threads come up and I did not know what to do still.
I will do a search for how to push rage to the phone. Remember the 500mb program does not exactly let you pick and choose the point where to start.
Edit: I will try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352

use the hack kit. you can even use the older hack kit. It doesn't really matter the size of the program, its how the program is scripted.
There are many threads of downgraded inspire with no sound, the solution is flashing a rom, though you cannot do that because you are not rooted nor are you s-off.
your options.
1. Flash back to stock and restart the whole process.
2. Push rage from adb, then run rage through turminal emulator.
3. Use the hack kit, because you can choose where to start in the proccess, ie. Pushing rage and rooting.
Try using the hack kit. Start with menu option number3.

I got it done.
I used this tutorial which involved:
Downloading Android SDK and gfree
Changing system variable path in Windows
running command prompt
doing a whole heap of adb commands.
I installed Rom Manager and flashed unity rom in and I am good to go
This is still going on??? I got one of the first Inspires when Costco was selling them even before AT&T would.
Same exact problem using the Bubby One Click method way back in February.
Had to use attn1's method from there on.
Would have thought the problem would have been fixed by now

I checked up on him a few weeks ago....doing a lot of wheeling and dealing for devices / hardware on some other threads probably for dev work...that's obviously not the Inspire .
SUCCES! Buying a non-stock micro sd resolve goldcard problems
Last night i tried this two methods to root my inspire,
Bubby's and the Ace Hack.
Neither both worked on my smartphone.
Bubby's just hangs in the HBOOT, it will never search for the .zip
And the command kit hangs in "INFOsignature..."
Tough it might be the goldcard, really i need to buy a new one?
Or there is something im doing wrong?
I tried the goldcard generation several times. (stock 8GB one)
I will take any help, thanks!
(Running 2.2.1, stock ATT)
(Also, im from Argentina, so i have it translated into spanish)

I would also suggest verifying that the zip file is named correctly and actually got transferred over. When I first did it the process failed there because the zip file wasn't named correctly.
Wow, now my inspire is stuck in a black screen with a cellphone and a red exclamation sign. What does it mean?
Edit: I restarted the phone and now is just like... nothing. Its the same that before, it wont work with the hack kit.
Hack Kit prompts "go" "tr23" "tr99" are not recognized command lines.
Then it just proceed fut failing in many steps.
Trying Bubby's once again, now with a 1gb sandisk card.
Now it searchs for the .zip
Ill keep updating if i succes.
Thanks
Edit: Its going well for now.
It seems that the stock card is not the best to make a goldcard.
I've tried the new supertool v3 and the aahk hack and it doesnt seem to do anything. It might be my computers fault cause it keeps giving me weird errors like my usb device has malfuctioned or windows doesnt recognize it. I'm lot and would like some assistance if someone could help
thanks,
mike
finally figured out it was my other computer so i moved to a different computer and am using the supertool hack and i prepped it like it said and it seemed to do something, then i went to #3 cause it says attempt perm root so i clicked that and it seemed to be doing something and then flashed at me and said rooted! and my phone turned white and i had 4 option like bootloader, reboot, reboot botloader, and something else i forgot. I'm not sure what i should do from here so i clicked just bootloader and it took me to a different screen then i just restarted it and i downloaded terminal emulator and typed in su to see if it was rooted and it wasnt. I'm confused once my screen turns white and asks me what to do
By "Supertool", do you mean Bubby's root method?
Idk who its from, but i got it from this website and its called htc supertool and says it works on almost every htc phone
No he mean the HTC supertool from the general android section. Use the Ace hack kit. It is the only proven way that I know of. We have all used it at one time or another and as long as you read the manual you will be fine.

It's not recommended to run from a USB drive. Use a live CD instead. (It's in the effen manual for aahk).

lol what are you saying? The Hack Kit is the best way to go. The OP has been instructed to use this tool and if he still runs into a problem, the OP should re-read the the first post in the hack kit thread and the manual to be sure he/she didn't miss a thing. If problems still persist I believe the IRC chatroom is still in service.

I got into a tiffy...and Im in fear I may have bricked my phone with a boot loop.
Somehow my shift installled ROM manager in process. It is acting as if I am getting SU .. I had "temproot" though I guess i screwed it. I'm going to try to jump on a PC if I can to get this all running. We'll see (osx snow leopard here).
HBOOT screen:
Speedy XE SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.98.0001
RADIO-1.08.00.0506
eMMC-boot
My phone came with it like this. gahhh is this still true?
I cannot use the recovery either.
Help!
If your HBoot is 0.98.0001 with " S-On " your going to have to start the whole Root process over. Check THIS thread. Watch the Videos, and Read the Info. It's all fairly straight forward. The biggest thing is to take your time, and make sure you do the process correctly. I would suggest watching the Videos several times. Also reading the Instructions several times before you start.
Good News *
looks like I was able to make a Nandroid backup of an unrooted Shift I still have that was unrooted. After much trial and error I was able to Restore from a backup. However, the HBoot was HBOOT-0.93.0001 on the other model, the newer one is HBOOT-0.98.0001.
One problem, now the wifi does not work, probably due to the HBoot.
I think a previous user left ROM Manager on it which is how this all happened that a another user tried installing and made it all messed up, somehow CWM 5.8.1.6 was installed already. I was getting ready to install 5.0.2.0 onto it. Now I am trying to recover this persons errors. Funny.
Any of the obvious methods of running a "Back to Stock" routine or using RUU was not working whatsoever since the HBoot was different.
Basically troubleshooting at this point. No idea what to do. I am calling CREDO to see if they can help me update my radios but i am betting i'll probably just get another phone from them. This may be the end of my Shifting since i'll be upgrading to something in the next few months..hopefully htc will save me somewhere, but samsung may be where I land next.
LASTLY :: I found the RUU HERE..but it gave me the same error... "Customer ID Failed"
man.... what a pain in the arse. Guess I'll be getting another shifty from them soon, unless anyone else has any brighter ideas.
So are you saying the 2.2 RUU ran all the way through ? The "Customer ID Failed" is when you boot up ?

RUU ran through but stopped at customer ID, I tried running through bootloader, running the original back to stock 2.2 Froyo, and none of this is working. The phone came with Froyo 2.2. I also tried removing the boot.img from newSENSE in a zip and placed that on the SDCard during another reinstallation of the zip, and none of that seemed to work. I feel like I have tried virtually everyhting and nothing is seeming to work.
I think I am almost figuring out how to crack this new egg, but no idea what's up with it.
If you got it booted but wifi isn't working, that means in system/lib/modules the modules are not matching the boot.img and will throw a WiFi error everytime

Yeah you will need the modules from the boot.img your running. So say you were on newSense while being s-on unlocked and wifi was working, and then you decided you wanted to run a new kernel so you fastboot flash a new boot.img, well when you boot in, the modules in system/lib/modules won't match the new kernel your running, so you have to grab the modules folder from the kernel and push them one at a time to be sure they all go to the right place. I don't remember all the modules names by memory(just know where they are in a ROM and after a compile) but ill give an example command to push a module with an easy module name my simple mind can remember. So place the modules in your platform-tools folder, plug your phone in on charge only and open a terminal to cd to platform-tools then enter these commands*
adb remount
adb push tun.ko /system/lib/modules (tun.ko and cifs.ko are not used in every kerenel)
adb push *the rest of the modules* /system/lib/modules
adb reboot
We are trying to get you on the right page, but on the weekends I dedicate all my free time to my family, and don't mess with xda or anything untill Sundays

Yes, i ran it in recovery. it acted like it pushed, and probably did, but did not work. it is what it is :\
Basically it ended up being some weird halfroot that seemed it had no way on getting it to work . somehow the hardware was flashed earlier on before.
I had it and had the newer CWM, I wonder if that had anything to do with it.
Well, thanks all for the help!

I'm sure I haven't bricked this phone, because in the process of rooting it, it will eventually say it's S-OFF. But after getting to that point, I can choose Recovery in CWM and when it gets to the white screen with the green HTC logo, after about 4 seconds, it will fade to black. This has happened to 2 phones I've rooted. Luckily mine worked like a charm, but after the last 2...I'm afraid to root another one. Does this sound like a bad memory card, or maybe it's not a gold card? I've searched around and couldn't find an answer, so maybe someone here at XDA has experienced this problem and has an answer.
TIA

I quite don't get that....you can choose recovery in CWM?? what does that is supposed to mean? CWM is a custom recovery. I guess that you are probably refering to hboot. Anyway, if you are S-OFF, then you might not have a recovery installed, so flash a new one (use the guide in my signature or look for post # 7 in the Ace Think Tank in the general section of the Desire HD forum)
Make sure first that you are S-OFF for certain, if you are not, then you won't be able to flash anything at all. Then, try re running the Hack Kit again from the white splash screen as the manual tells you to.

Yes, I guess I did mean hboot. In the process of Recovery is when it will fail and there is a ROM loaded for it to recover from on the SD card. Is it possibly because it is looking for the clockworkmod/backup folder and there is not one? I just realized that maybe I can copy a backup from my phone (we have the same exact phone) and place in there if it's possible. I don't have access to the phone now, as it is a friends. Also, if it fades out at the white HTC logo and just gets hung up, there is no way to re-run the Hack Kit is there?
Thanks for the help glevitan, as you've helped me before and I HAVE downloaded your Ultimate Hack Guide and keep it on my phone for reference.

Just a question, are you sure that the phone is S-OFF? or has an unlocked bootlaoder? In either way you can flash recovery again from fastboot and then a custom rom again.

ok. Good luck!
Ok glevitan, I believe the problem might be in the PD98IMG.zip that's on the root of my SD card. I noticed when the phone booted into hboot, it would display that the image file was wrong, or something to that effect and then would force an update, which would load the HTC spashscreen and then ultimately fade out. I figured it had a bad PD98IMG.zip file, so I found the original aahk-13012012.zip and extracted the PD98IMG.zip from there and overwrote the one in the root. It didn't work. A different story...I noticed on my Inspire 4G (working correctly, but hboot had same error, even though I could load recovery from there) that it wasn't finding the correct image either. I copied over the PD98IMG.zip onto my phone and now both phones are now fading out on the HTC splashscreen after about 4 seconds. This tells me that it's in the SD card, right? If so, any suggestions? Both phones were rooted using this version of aahk.
Edit: Also, with this new PD98IMG.zip image, hboot will go into the process of parsing for
[1] boot
[2] recovery
[3] radio_v2
Once this is done, I push Power to reboot and that's when I get the failure in the HTC splashscreen.
Edit: I noticed in the PD98IMG.zip there was no md5 file, so I stuck one in there and got my phone working (which is not the one with the original issue started in this thread) and was able to restore a nandroid backup. I put this same SD card in the original damaged phone and it didn't restore like mine did. I still think it's an SD card issue causing the HTC splashscreen fadeout, but don't know where to go know.
Also, my PD98IMG.zip only has a recovery.img and a recovery.md5 file in it. I noticed that the original aahk PD98IMG.zip has those along with a boot.img and a radio.img. Should those be in the PD98IMG.zip? I know this post was edited twice and is very jumbled, so if you can make sense of it and offer solutions, much obliged.

Ok, I quite don't get much...sorry, but that version of the Hack Kit is old, so use the lastest one: http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=74
But again, I don't still get if the phone is S-OFF or not. If you are S-OFF there is no need to do all that process. Even, you can flash a RUU without using the PD98IMG way if you suspect that the sdcard is messed.
You can flash it over fastboot.... Anyway, you will have to flash this RUU (which is the gingerbread update 2.3.3 version of ATT. the lastest one, if you are not S-OFF will make things a bit harder for you to run the hack kit later): http://https://dl.dropbox.com/u/30674730/RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_Cingular_US_2.47.502.7_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_200368_signed.exe

Sorry, I thought I had said I was S-OFF. I can get my phone to be fastboot usb when hooked up with a usb in hboot, but can't reflash aahk or anything computer related. It just doesn't seem to recognize anything on the PC.
Edit: And I apologize glevitan, I've searched and found a couple of threads related to the black screen after the HTC logo, so I know you guys have helped and explained this numerous times before. I just couldn't get any of the suggestions from those threads to work out. Thanks for any help you may input.

I was having a similar problem, I'm not too sure if it relates to what your experiencing. But I was trying to gain s-off my hboot was in fact unlocked but was still s-on. I was reading around and flashed a few boot.img with fast boot. I had that problem where htc screen would show then fade to black, and then stay black.
What I did was (I had installed recovery pretty early on) I did a factory reset in recovery then went to restore. Prior to this thank god I had transfered my nandroids to the pc b4 flashing new boot.img(s) then flashed the boot.img from the nandroid I just restored. All was well back into stock. I then found the insecure boot.img to use for aahk, flashed that in fastboot and relocked hboot. Reran aahk in linux. Got me to S-OFF with unlock.
If you need a fairly stock nandroid I can provide one.

Ok, you need to reflash the RUU I posted above....you just need to flash that from fastboot usb. If you can't do it, Then you need to flash it manually. Just let me know and I can lend you a hand over teamviewer. When you get the phone back, then you run the hack kit.

glevitan, you're awesome. I restored the phone by running the RUU executable and reran the aahk and am now fully rooted. Both times I got the black screen on this phone previously was on the same PC, but this time I ran aahk on my PC and it ran correctly. I sincerely appreciate your help in helping me to achieve root for this phone. Hopefully this thread helps someone in the future.

What have you tried? AAHK is the only real option. There is a very clear guide over at the Ace Think Tank post #7, linked in my signature.

Besides what bananagranola said, you need to know that video tutorials suck. They skip important details and that, will probably get you stuck. Read the guide adviced, and the hack kit site (got the link in the Ace Think Tank Thread)...that is all you need to know.
I have tryed the Aahk. My problem is when it ask me to downgrade ruu an all that. All my phone dose when I run the aahk I push 1 an then it ask too downgrade so i put y then something about the ruu an I put y then it says pushing the 9 something file. ( sorry I'm not home on my computer ) so I'm not 100% on what it is saying. But then my phone boots to Hboot dose its thank. Then says bad image. I have done this a lot of times with the aahk. I even tock the s-on off an on. Is there a way that someone can jump into my computer an do this?

Try using a different sdcard. If the RUU image is not being read, that is probably due to a bad sdcard. It is corrupted to work as a goldcard but fine for usual day use.
I have. I have had 4 of them now. Two 2 gigs one 36gig an one 8 gig. New I paid for them an a new USB cored fast data cable for the phone.

2gb is enough...don't use another cable but the oem one that came with the phone. Anyway, that seems to be a sdcard issue. Try with another one and then report back.
I will go buy one more. But I Dont thank its that. An why not use a fast data cored for my phone?
