Heyy everybody let's see which build everyone has!
(If you don't know what a build number is look at the sticker, on your phone, under the battery. It starts like this "10XX")
Let me start
I have a build 1008 Captivate
Cons: No three button fix after rom flashing.
(Make sure u flash a Rom with the three button fix, or just flash the fix!! Or have a jig on the side just in case )
1008 but no button combo problem. Jig on the side just in case
MIUI
I had a 1006, but then samsung swapped the motherboard after mine died. Now I have a body that says 1006 and who knows what on the inside.
1008 too.
Rocking CM7.

Had a 1010, but had random shutdowns... ATT replaced it with 1007, everything works.
Looks like voting is all screwed up...
1007 here.
There's no 1013. Only 12 months in a year. The newer builds are 1101, 1102 and so on.
1007, and I have no standard Captivate problems whatsoever.
CM7 Inspire 4G
Just got a 1102 today, warranty exchanged my 1008 for unreliable GPS.
I have a 1007 that I got right when they released and another 1007 still new in the box I got on black friday last year when radio shack had them for free with a new two year agreement.

Build number 1007 and everything works perfectly on it except gps of course...
1008 here. Three-button salute worked for me out of the box (JH7), but after I wrecked my phone and did the Odin one-click back to a slightly older stock firmware, my recovery mode went bye-bye. Ended up needing to borrow a Window's laptop (I have an old Mac) and installing the SDK to adb it into recovery mode before I could trick it out again.

I exchanged a phone today because of random shut downs. The service center originally tried to give me a build 1008 phone, which is the same build I had with random shutdowns and lost 3 button recovery. I raised a stink and they gave me a 1009 build.
Is there a catalog of issues by build? If I use Odin, will I loose 4 button recovery? Is random shut downs an issue with this build? GPS?
Is there anything I should know or watch out for before flasjing roms and rooting this phone?
Thanks

I read in the Vibrant forum that number isn't a build number... its the build month and year in Europeen format, so your first phone was made in 8/10. Your new phone was made in 9/10. I know that it does hold true for my wife 2 Captivates (exchanged 1010 for shutdowns), as well as mine.
That being said, the memo warns about all phones prior to 11/6/10. If this is a build month, then I would insist on a 1011 or higher.
When I exchanged my wife's phones (within 30 day period) I looked up the build date on Samsung's website based in the imei number on the phone box without even opening it before accepting it. You could do this to to be real sure it is built after 11/6. They're knowingly selling defective phones, so don't feel bad insisting on whatever it takes to make you feel whole.
Her new phone is 1012 - built on 12/25/10. No shutdowns yet and the GPS works well - even better than her 1010. I'm jealous of hers. Mine works ok, but randomly losses itself for 10-30 seconds while driving.
Both of our phones are stock and unrooted.

I have 1009 build and so far I don't have any problem.
How has your experience been with it?
Mine has been fine, my wife's not so much...
My wife's Captivate: WAS very very laggy but 2.2 fixed it. She had zero problems with her GPS but the 2.2 update threw it off about a block : /
My Captivate: Just as smooth as before, and GPS is perfect as was before.
How are you guys enjoying Froyo?
Not quite sure what you mean. I didn't know there was an official one for the captivate sent out? Searched for it and couldn't find it on google. You sure ATT pushed out official 2.2 a month ago?
There is no official froyo yet for the captivate

It is complete bull$hit that ATT has not given you guys 2.2 I think I would go custom ROM and be done with it.
Just get a new (not refurbished) Captivate instead!

Get another phone. Do not settle on a defective phone. I spoke with someone in the "Office of the President" (a higher level of AT&T customer service) and after checking into the issue, they overnighted me a NEW Captivate (my phone was purchased in August, so I am well out of the 30-days). Their statement was that the defective phones are not supposed to be in the new lots or refurb lots, as it is against their procedures to knowingly sell defective phones. I would suggest taking your complaints there. The number is 1-800-331-0500. Be firm and upset, but be respectful. They will work with you.
Overall its not bad, but I do have a few issues I am still contending with.
When I first did the update I lost navigation all together. I restarted the phone (using a access number Samsung provided me) and solved that issue.
I lost a lot of files that were on my SD card. I haven't been able to figure out why that should be. It's like the update made a point of deleting everything except my media... Oh well
However I am still fighting issues with the both the home and car docks. (Which by the way Samsung Canada doesn't recognize up here and said I am on my own)
The usb audio out worked once and then disappeared on me altogether... Restarting apps and phone isn't helping...
And using the home dock, the phones main screens get stuck in landscape mode (only after doing it all night, if it's only running for a couple hours it's fine) and I have to shut off the phone to get it back to normal. Using Samsung home dock app it was every night. Alarms Plus as well. I am currently using an app called no dock and its down to 25% of the time I don't get stuck in landscape mode. Livable... The car dock I have not gotten stuck in landscape yet, but then I don't think it will ever be in the dock long enough to get stuck...
Which brings me to a point of frustration. Why isn't landscape mode functional outside the dock mode? I love the ability, just not getting stuck there until I reboot... The phone CAN and WILL do it on certain conditions, so why not all the time?
I haven't tried the mass storage mode or tethering yet so I don't know if they are working or I have more issues to deal with.
I've been using coredroid for a couple months now. GPS worked great all the way up to V6.5. Even used 6.0 for a week or so and it worked great. I've used stock radio with every ROM and never had a problem. I installed coredroid 6.5 and the GPS is dead as a door nail. Gps Status, and GPS Test Plus won't even find a single satellite after 5 minutes standing in my yard with no obstructions. Not a single satellite found, let alone a lock. So I flashed the radio Coredroid recommends for V6.5 and no go. I also tried faster fix with no luck. I then wiped cache partition, formatted data, cache, and system, followed by a dalvik cache wipe, reinstalled coredroid v6.0 which it was working on yesterday, and same thing, doesn't find a single satellite. So I then tried optimized stock rooted which it also worked on that ROM in the past, and now it doesn't. I've done complete wipes between roms, and tried testing GPS BEFORE restoring my titanium backup. Nothing I do seems to work. Can't find one single satellite in clear view of the sky. So Now I'm back to CoreDroid V6.5 since it's not ROM related. Any Ideas?
Try running the RUU to complete stock through the exe file. Not rooted stock, but original shipping stock.

My first one went bad on me about a month ago. Stopped working at all, then worked a little, then stopped again. I did s-on and flashed to stock, then took it to a warranty center and got it replaced. This one works better then my first ever did.

I'm on my second Inspire due to the very some issue you describe. If youre out of the 30 buyers remorse, call ATT's warranty dept @ 800-801-1101 and have them get a replacement on the way. In the mean time, get all your stuff together to return your to stock and root the replacement.
It's worth the hassle to save your sanity from a known issue w/ our phones.

Well, gps still not working. I got this phone on release day in feburary. I did however solve the problem, I went and got Samsung infuse, however I want to get gps working on inspire so I can sell it. Maybe the chip went bad. I went back to stock using the RUU exe method and nothing. This is definitely a hardware failure. Maybe I flashed it to death lol

I understand the issue, my problem is I've never had a issue in the 3 months I've had it. Flashed 20 Roms at least, gps worked great on all of them, but now all of a sudden I get the issue.

Yeah the gps is kinda touchy with this phone. I dorked my gps up a while back and nothing fixed it either. Reflashed the ruu, radios, rerooted and every other maddening thing you can think of. I actually gave up and moved on.Then one day after messing around in the build prop(completely unrelated to the gps) my gps came back up after the 40th reboot in a row. Since then its been fine, really weird.
BTW how you do like the infuse? A friend of mine had to ditch the inspire because the bluetooth would cut out once he put the phone in his pocket, went through 2 phones and headsets.

infuse is like a fancy captivate only way smoother. GPS got 11 satellites in under 25 seconds on first try out off the box. Inspire mobile data speeds were always 3.5 down, the infuse is getting 7 on average. Inspire didn't have 2100mhz band, infuse does. Not sure if that matters. But I like it. Rooted it in under 3 minutes. Just one click and superuser appeared.

I've had with my Crappy. This back/home button flashing thing makes my phone totally unusable. Doesn't matter what rom/kernel I run, same thing.
Anyone found the cause or fix for this? The rice trick doesn't do squat and it's not moisture, my phone is dryer than a popcorn fart.
Seriously about to throw this thing into a volcano.

Should be a 4 digit number under your battery, something like 1010, two digits are the month, two are the year.
I forget which order it goes in but it should be evident. I know the sleep death problem was fixed in models built after early Nov '10, and the button problem might be the same.

Have you tried to remap or disable these two keys? For example you can disable home and back, and map the search key to back.

First two digits are year, second two digits are month. So 1007 = July 2010, 1101 = January 2011, etc.
My phone is 1011 so November, 2010. It's so bad that I can't even dial a number. Running Andromeda³ and Ursa Minor².

I had this problem really often when I had Andromeda3 loaded, care to try a newer GB ROM, or CM7.1 and post results? Oh and do you also get random shutdowns?
No random shutdowns, ever. I may try cym but I'll probably just trade in the cappy for a sg2 since I'm pretty well fed up with the captivate. I've tried many roms and it didn't seem to matter. My only "guess" is that it has to do with the blk mod that's pre-loaded with most roms.

I had the same problem with my cativate with every rom i installed my home button would go crazy. i flashed back to stock many times but it didnt fix the problem until one day I flashed back to stock and then let kies update to froyo and bam problem fixed. Never had another problem again with my soft buttons.
My captivate was affected by sleep death since the day i bought it (November 2010). Once I flashed a custom rom for the first time (Cognition), the problem went away and i never saw it again for over ten months. Then I flashed the Illuminance KK4 rom about a week ago. It came back with a vengenance and I CAN'T get rid of it no matter how hard I try. I tried Odining back to stock KF1, KH3, and KK1 all with bootloaders and nothing seems to stop the issue. It happens on all froyo and gingerbread stock and custom roms. I cant Odin back to JF6 because I have a 1010 build. I was thinking maybe the GB bootloaders are the cause? Any ideas on why it came back and maybe on how to fix it? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Update #1 - I ended up flashing back to stock JF6 expecting to soft brick my phone. I flashed this mainly for the eclair/froyo bootloaders. Turns out it didnt brick my phone at all. Then i odined stock jh2, then cognition 4.5.3. So far I havn't had any random shutdowns for over two days. Hopefully this solved my problems
I also bought mine in November of 2010 and had a 1010 build that had the sleep death issue. Mine actually occured while on Cognition but I don't remember which kernel I was on. I contacted ATT and they swapped it with a refurb for free (looks brand new). The new one has never had a sleep death and the GPS works much better. I would recommend a swap.
But the problem is its been over a year. Im pretty sure they wont give me a refurb since i dont have insurance...
