VOIP settings - Thunderbolt General

Anyone else using VOIP for voice? If so, could you share your settings(preferably CSipSimple)? I don't remember what I changed, but I got VOIP working almost as good as real calling.

Yeah.
For anyone who didn't know, you can use the google voice app to make calls.
The way it works is you "call" someone with the app, and then google voice calls you and the person you're calling, and connects you.
Due to our provider allowing unlimited incoming calls, you can make all your calls for free.
I personally don't do this, as I can't possibly burn through 1000 minutes in a month anyway.
What's really cool is you can have it automatically use the app when you dial any number not in your exceptions list and set its quite hours for nights and weekends. The calls receiver still sees your number.

Google voice lite

Hi guys. Does anyone know where to get Google voice lite? I install Google voice from the market and during setup it yells me my carrier is not supported. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I got the same message but it still works

It's just saying that it cant automatically set up the no answer transfer to divert calls from verizon's voicemail system to GV. You can do that manually.

I like Google plus hangouts. The only problem is getting your friends to sign up.

can you initiate the hangout from the phone app? or does it already have to be setup through the full website?
you can initiate a hangout from the phone and it does nit require wifi. Google talk works good too but you have to mod some files to use it over 4g.

I've also used Skype on both WiFi and my data plan and worked great. I also tried out Tango and it's worked out great as well - I actually like Tango more than Skype.
Maria
I've used Skype on mine, the resolutions seems a bit quirky, and the software doesn't look very pleasing when doing the video call. However it works well, especially in a area with awesome LTE coverage.

Sip on ics w/ Google voice

Hey all
Anyone have any advice on how to set this up?
I've done done searching, and can't find a good guide...
Thanks!

I've been looking into this for awhile.
From what I know google voice doesn't have sip services so therefore you can use sip through them, I've been trying to find services to replace groove up though specifically using sip services. Anyone else know anything on setting up sip and any recommend services?

I have used sip on my sensation. under setting, call, Internet call setting, accounts. I used an account from SIP2SIP (call centric produced inconsistent results for me). You enter username, password etc and you are done.
Is the service decent and do they charge you by the minute?

Alternative SMS?

So I've been thinking about dropping my SMS/MMS bundle plan to safe a little money. There are some free apps in the Market to text for free with data. Which do you recommend? I am currently testing Pinger, which is great. The only flaw I see is that I'm not able to text with the original number I also use for calling (which creates confusion with my friends and family.) Also, when I'm on Edge the app doesn't load/refresh for new messages. Any body find a (near) perfect alternative?
Thanks

Doesn't that require people to use the app as well? I use it for international texting with my brother but he also uses the app, can you send to a dumb phone and receive from the same person?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Nope. The other end should have whatsapp too. But its better than juggling two numbers, one for calls and the other for text.
I have free global texting so I hardly use whatsapp even.

Doesn't that app also require the person receiving the message to have it installed? And does it use the native number? Hmm. Google voice seemed nice, but I couldn't understand how it worked and doesn't support MMS.

I'm not sure if this will work or not but have you tried the GO SMS GO chat?

Why not use one of the IM clients out there? That's what I use to text my girl while she's in Canada.
What about Google Voice?

I use Viber. It's an all in one and it's free and no adverts!!
People that you message do require it though as of course it uses Wifi or your Data Plan!
Also this allows to MMS/SMS in one shot also your can call people with this app. Again all using data so it's a VoIP app.
I tested the calling feature and it comes in quite clear! SMS with it is good also.
Hope this is somewhat of what you were looking for...
Marc
