Dude, are you sure that you're using this guide? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6802504&postcount=1
Because downgrading recovery just helps for the normal milestone, not the XT720...
Rooting works also with the universal androroot app

Why didn't you just use UniversalAndroot.apk
It's a one-click kinda deal.
I believe you are referring to milestone root which is not applicable to the xt720. Just use the apk suggested by the post above.

I have tried UniversalAndroot.apk, the latest version (beta). I followed the steps and I got message on the screen, my phone is rooted. However when I tried using Titanium Backup it said "Sorry, I could not acquire root previleges. This application will not work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again."
So, is my phone really rooted? What I missed? thank you.
You are missing busybox!
You need to install it before using titanium backup.

That's what I thought too, but saw UniversalAndroot already got BusyBox installed on my phone. Well so it's not installed yet... thank you for info
Anyway heard that people already rooted their phone can't see update for froyo, is it rite?
Thank you.
keeps saying my build is not crespo , even when i try to flash the full rom.
when i manually open the build.prop file all the places where it says not crespo , are crespo. How can this be fixed, thanks.
Flash the rooted version in recovery and be done with it

If you don't understand what I mean when I say flash the stock rooted version of the ota then you need to stop and learn alot about your phone before you mess something up.

There is no need to tell me what i need or don't need to do with my phone.
There is no point in useless advices.
Let me be clear:
I want a stock 2.3.6 rooted phone, I am very capable of rooting it myself but because of a weird bug i am incapable of doing that.
what i tried to do is to install a 2.3.6 OTA and re-root, that failed.
so if you are able to provide me with a fix it would be appreciated, if not please provide a rooted version of a STOCK 2.3.6, and not a ROM with million unneeded extra stuff.
if you are unable to help that is ok, but do not presume that because i am newly registered i have no idea of what i am doing.
I still need help ...
Why did it fail?

So i recently got an galaxy s2 skyrocket and performed my first android root using the skyrocket easy root zergrush app.
I am running stock 2.3.5 and am on ATT . The only things i have done is install the COM, froze the tether, and un installed a few bloatware items
My question is...
How would i restore this to stock? Un root and all?
Also how would i install 2.3.6?

2.3.6 got pulled, so you'd have to install a custom rom.

If you rooted using DoomLord's method, then use this.

For 2.3.6 I would flash Silver's zip for the rom. You will need CWM.

Fellow noob
So I'm fairly new to android as well, I would highly suggest taking a look this thread goes over rooting, kernals roms and going back to unroot...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427268
Then a couple of the apps that have really helped me out are Titanium Back up and Rom Manager. Makes flashing roms very easy, between easily flashing CWM and rebooting into CWM with just a click. Then TB with it's auto backup's and being able to quickly restore when you've flashed that new rom. (I paid for both of these apps, so I'm not sure what features the free versions have)
I flashed to Silvers rom to get to 2.3.6 and it's working great, was very easy to do!
Anyways, hope this helps!

Hey guys,
Tried installing ICS with my rooted ATRIX2. It failed so I did some reading found out you had to unroot to update. Went back unrooted and still the update fails. I rooted with casual public beta. Unrooted using the one click method. No idea how to flash my phone to a different rom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Trying to update and root again.

So you was rooted on 2.3.6 right?
If so you need to just fxz back to gb 2.3.6, and then try the ota. But beware, the ota has no fxz to save you in case of a screw up.
Fxz found here:

Explanation on how to fxz here:

Also this should be in Q&A

Even if you have unrooted, if you deleted any of the stock apps, or still have a custom recovery set up at boot, then the update won't work. Like previously stated, you need to FXZ back to completely stock gingerbread, then run the update. I had the same issue.

Delete the files that installed by bootstrap recovery app if you have installed it before.

Alright thanks guys. And yes I was rooted on 2.3.6. Now should I remove my micro SD when I downgrade?

question about update to ICS
Noticed a lot of people having problems with Battery( not charging) going dead quickly due to media files. any comments would be helpful and Thanks.
Ok i followed all the steps loaded my phone into fastboot flash, installed the drivers, download rsd lite 5.7, and I cant get RSD Lite to recognize my phone. I uninstalled and re installed the necessary drivers and still nothing. I also noticed when picking a file in RSD Lite when I go to select a file there are two. (edison-user 2.3.6 5.5.1-175_EDMR1.25 5.51.175.25 release-keys2011-11-16 23:52 Off.Bld LUD_EDISON_R1D7_PATCH_36_111116_2336 crh1090280_M570_PC_CARD_RAIN) or (ndp). I am assuming that I need to flash the first file.
Any help on where I went wrong or why it isnt recognizing my phone would be greatly appreciated. Sorry I am a noob to modding phones. I promise I learn quickly and appreciate your patience.
